Cat Wheel Loader Repair and Operating Test

- In this video, I show how I go about replacing the heat exchanger in our caterpillar 910 articulated wheel loader. The heat exchanger had started leaking engine oil out through the outside of the core and needed replacement. Luckily it had not leaked internally which means there was no water in the engine oil. I go through the motions after modifying it slightly, get it all refitted and test it out digging dirt to check for leaks once it got up to operating temperature. These old caterpillar machines have a distinct sound and smell which I expect many viewers might have experienced in the past. Thanks for watching.
You're alright Bruce . Love watching an experienced man tackle machinery . Great work Bruce !
Love the butcher birds in the background!.
I love this guy from down under, he teaches me a lot of old school mechanic😍👍👍.
Greetings from🥖🇫🇷👋
Thanks very much for your comment, best wishes, Bruce
Good repair and a good couple of stabs into the pile. Fun work if you can get it, Bruce.
G'day Bruce , from an old retired coal train driver in Gladstone.
Hi Alex, hope you are well
Nice to watch someone on RUclips who actually knows what they are doing. I like the tip about letting it sit on the O rings overnight. Keep up the good work Bruce.
Thanks Steve, there are much more knowledgeable people than me on here but thanks nonetheless. The seals kept wanting to jump out and I wanted to avoid a big fight putting it back together. Bruce
I like it. What are they worth?
Great job Bruce, have a good one Mate 😎😎👍👍🍮🍮❤️
Looking forward to seeing more videos. One about hydraulics' on an excavator and how to fix it would be great.
Bruce bloody good to see you working on something clean that you haven’t had to brush cut around first…lol. Good fix mate, looks like she’s just had a paint job to, nice tidy little unit. Will you drop that water out later and replace it with proper coolant?. Where about up north are you, it looks as dry as a dead dingos donga?
Hi Gordon, it was painted last year and has only moved some dirt and lifted some steel around since so the paint still looks really good. We are up in wide bay. At the moment, the 910 is up on an ironstone ridge in very poor country and you are quite right, very dry. I worry how dry it will get up there come summertime. Yes - I didn’t put coolant in after the rebuild because I expected to have the change the cooler/dump the coolant on the not too distant future. I’m hoping to give it another flush next week and put coolant back in. Bruce
Oil coolers can give trouble when they get old, but by far the most common thing on modern engines are failed EGR coolers.
Thanks Wazza, your probably right, I don’t have much to do with newer machines with egr and/dpf luckily! Bruce
Sir do you worry about deionized water.?
You dont use antifreeze. Down under ?
This repair was a walk in the park for Bruce! Screwdriver, drill, grinder and a bucket of water…😊
9:57 should nt you put anti freeze in with the water to stop rust
Hello, yes you are quite right - I should be. I like the blue hino truck/Toyota coolant and unfortunately I didn’t have any on hand when I did this job. I hope to be able to drop this water and put the antifreeze in within a few weeks. Bruce.
Did you restore this old girl?
Yes, if you look back in some of my older videos you can see how it was and it was originally painted white but most had flaked off!
probably best not to watch this 1 with ya mornin cuppa will make the fountain flow😂😂😂😂
Surprised how noisy that motor is
