This is literally my Most expensive Father’s Day gift. He’s going to freak out. He’s an architect set to retire in 8-10 years. Dudes been rocking a 6th gen with the old pencil. Now it’s all updated 11inch pro, magic key and the pencil pro! All still in the their respective boxes. Thanks for your help in making me a bit broke 🤣 looking forward to seeing pops lose his marbles trying to figure out Apple intelligence. TREAT YO DAD!!!!!
Regarding the accuracy of the trackpad I think you're referring to the trackpad inertia. When you move the mouse on a Mac it stops immediately when you stop. On an iPad it continues moving for a bit. If you go into system settings and search for inertia you can toggle this off so that it acts like a Mac cursor.
I just upgraded to a 13” M4 and this is my first Magic Keyboard. I specifically went to the Apple Store to try the new model out before making a decision. I have the Logitech keyboard combo on my old M1 and liked it, but the Magic Keyboard is definitely a better typing experience and feels more ‘solid’. The connection for the Logitech keyboard is kinda flimsy and results in the keyboard shifting when using in my lap. I did like that it has a case for the iPad, which the Magic Keyboard does not. I figured I’d try it out for the 2 week return period and I quickly decided that I really like it and use it way more than I thought it would or than I did with the Logitech. The price is ridiculous, but it really is a nice piece of kit. I’m pretty sure I’m going to keep it at this point, but recommend if anyone is on the fence, you have two weeks to return with no questions from Apple, so try it out and return if you really don’t like it or can’t justify it.
I'm loving the keyboard in the black and haven't had issues keeping it clean so far. Also, I agree that it's top heavy but I enjoy using it on my lap. It's definitely improved from the last Gen.
Far and away, the best, most honest review of the Magic Keyboard so far! I subscribed. I really can’t grok how in beta, Apple’s designers didn’t notice the top-heavy, falling backwards when mounting the iPad, and concluded, “That’s good enough for a $300+ release anyway.” Did they even test it with an M4 iPad mounted? For me, it’s a dealbreaker. With each release, Apple makes their iPads more “laptop-like.” How could they not consider how it works in your “lap?”
I have the one for the 11 inch iPad Pro. I really like it after using it for a few days, but still a little bit concerned if the aluminum or something on it like dust will scratch the screen. The rubber around the keyboard does not really prevent the display glass to touch the aluminum in the trackpad area… The glass really touches the surface. At the moment it seems we have no keyboard gate and I really hope it stays like that.
I'm a big fan of the separated external BT keyboard and ipad on stand: For one, it's more ergonomic to have the iPad a bit higher and a bit behind the keyboard. Also, it's way more affordable than the Apple Magic Keyboard: there are lots of affordable BT keyboards that a great typing experience, backlit keys, and a rock solid connection to the iPad. There are lots of very affordable stands, including portable ones. The keyboard and portalbe stand I purchased together weigh slightly less than the new Magic Keyboard. The stand folds nearly flat and both fit quite easily in my bag along with my M4 iPP. My total cost was around $125 for the stand & keyboard. What I give up with this combo is the cool factor of the Apple Magic Keyboard and the convenience of having everything in one slim package. Only you can decide if those things are important enough to spend more than double. But for me, the ergonomics are the deciding factor. My workdays include many hours sitting at a desk. Tipping my head down to look at an iPad screen that is low and right next to my hands when typing isn't comfortable after a half hour or so. So I'm happy to pass on the Apple Magic Keyboard. But I know it'll be a great option for many. It's very well-made, it "just works," (and works really well), and you get the convenience and cool factor, both of which are worth paying money for.
I picked up my first magic keyboard with my 2020 iPad Pro, just a few months after I purchased my 2020 MacBook Pro for $2000. Let’s just say that the MacBook Pro has less than 100 battery cycles in 2024. I now have a 2023 iPad Pro with magic keyboard and it’s pretty much all I use. I only pull out the MacBook Pro for certain things when absolutely necessary. I run my business on the iPad Pro, and now I do most of my recording in pro logic and video work in Final Cut Pro on the iPad.. and I do own Logic Pro on desktop. I really think iPads are the future. I only wish they would come up with a hybrid OS to be more compatible with some websites..
I got my new iPad Pro 4 a few days ago. I’m glad I splurged for the magic keyboard. I had a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard. It was OK, but the magic keyboard is better in so many little ways. I typically use my tablet while laying on my back, with the keyboard sitting between my stomach and chest. It is a little wobbly, but not too bad. On the rare occasions I use it in my lap, I will need to prop it up with something near the front. maybe some third-party will come up with gizmo that stays attached to the bottom of the keyboard just for that purpose - maybe 1 inch rubber wedge or something.
The worst thing is I think most people would be cool with more weight and thickness if you got back-up battery bank and another usb. the whole point is versatility, I can type write and draw, I don't care that its a little thicker when not in use, it's still smaller than a 2013 MacBook, and I managed with that.

You to adjust the trackpad speed to your timing, the one come from fabric is not quiet accurate
What keyboard would you buy if I wanted to use a keyboard part time but then flip it all the around and use iPad as a flap surface for writing or drawing?
So the weight distribution is the different than on the first model? I use my magic keyboard almost daily with mi iPad Pro and i feel the balance perfect.
The reason I stayed away from the old Magic Keyboard and why I am considering this on is the weight. So for me to add "weight" for stability defeats the purpose. At that point I may as well just bring my MacBook Pro
Why do RUclipsrs feel the need to add the word “honest” in the title. Surely it is a given that a review is honest? And if a video is sponsored should the title be “my tainted view” or “my sellout view” ?
Just like @DjangoGreen, I wanted a tablet due to the benefits tablets have over laptops (iPADOS, touch screen, lightweight, ability to work while holding the device with one hand etc.). I've never had any desire to try and make my tablet a laptop. Dictation and the on screen keyboard, is good enough for me when away from home. A bluetooth keyboard (MX Keys Mini) and mouse (MX 3) sits on the desk at home for heavy duty work. Enjoyed the video! 👍🙏
The Magic keyboard is itself a protective case. I don’t think a separate protective case is needed, but there are many generic laptops sleeves that would give extra protection, if you wanted it.
I'd say the 11" - I take notes for work and it's ideal when next to my laptop on my desk or when holding it. I tried out the 13" again in the store yesterday and it looks nice on the stand but for handheld use, I think it's too big for note taking.
I went to buy the M4 13 iPad... and I ended up leaving. I will be buying the M2 iPad 12.9 SOLELY because of the Magic Keyboard... (I had the M1 until it got stolen) What you complained about the tipping... well, the old design was infinitely better for that weight distribution. Also, the suggestions on the lower part of the touch screen of the iPad are a lot easier to tap with your fingertips without even moving your hands from the keyboard, again, with the older Magic Keyboard. I just cannot understand why would Apple have made it all worse with this new design.
I hate it. It's heavy and I can't fold the keyboard to the back like I used to do with the iPad Pro 2018 + Smart Folio. When I read I have to take it off, since it doesn't stick on the portrait mode. I am going to go to a light cover plus a small and light bluetooth keyboard. It's going back.
Yes magic keyboad so Very expensive but it so cool for ipad pro ,And and and Has anyone noticed? The back of the ipad has a vertical logo, while the back of the magic keyboad is horizontal. Do you all think they forgot? or intend
People have been buying the magic keyboard since it was released so I don't see why people would not buy it now as it's the same price for a better keyboard.
I got a Magic Keyboard today. I had a couple other versions made by other manufacturers. The apple keyboard is 1000 times better. The others are cheap feeling. Also… the “when you touch the screen it falls over” is exaggerated. Majorly exaggerated. I am keeping the apple Magic Keyboard. It’s fantastic.
No argument from me. It’s overpriced. But the cheaper ones are crap. So either someone needs to make a cheaper one that isn’t garbage or we are stuck with Apple. I mean… if it’s overpriced but way better… is it really overpriced? 😆🤷♂️
I’m actually confused. I bought the 2024 iPad Air 13 with the $349 Magic Keyboard and it has no function keys. The $349 Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro has function keys. What gives?
Because the Magic Keyboard for the Air is the exact same keyboard of the previous iPad Pro line. The body of the Airs are the exact bodies of the old iPad Pros. The new Pros are thinner and thus need a new keyboard - which now has the function keys. And yes, the pencil Pro and the pencil second generation are the same price; as well as the new keyboard and old keyboard are the same price....ugh.
$350 for a flimsy keyboard unit is disgusting price gauging from Apple. They know the iPad will flip over and hopefully it breaks &/or lose your Apple Pencil in hopes you will purchase another. Shows how much they care about their customers.

For me, the difference and took time to get use to was the circle vs the arrow, that is typically used in computers.

Excellent review! I loved that you addressed the wobbliness of the Magic Keyboard, which is something I've only seen one other reviewer do so far!

What do you think of the new Magic Keyboard for the M4 iPad Pro? :)
Compare it to the new older model
Why is no one asking for feet on this keyboard case!? They could make the back feet bigger so the weight is pushed forward a bit.
That’s a good suggestion!

Cursor moment can be disable, I think in accessibility, which may better mirror computer cursors.
Since I already had an Apple bluetooth keyboard, a Logitech Pebble mouse, and an inexpensive stand I decided to operate on the cheap.

the wobble is annoying but not a deal breaker for me. for my purposes, the keyboard makes the ipad pro a full scale computing machine. Great video
