Two small things of note - 1) Apple has updated the official specs on the Air, going from a 10-core GPU to a 9-core. This just happened yesterday, and it doesn't really make any difference in this context (seems like a blunder on Apple's part) 2) As someone pointed out, I made a mistake, where the 10.9" and 11" display sizes are just marketing differences, and there's no actual difference there. My bad! Cheers!
It’s the same in the 12.9 and 13inch. The case for my iPad Pro 12.9 fits my iPad Air 13in it’s marketing only feels like a rip of but I prefer a bigger screen so I went with it.
The current lineup does make sense. As a non-creative person, I am a huge fan of the Air model simply because it can do all the stuff I want from taking notes to emailing and office related applications.
@@xXAlmdudlerXx But base iPad(Gen10) suck for its price. 64GB base model is not ideal for 2024 and future proof and the 256GB model almost as same price as Air M2 128GB
Picked up the M1 Air not too long ago for 450.00, and it's just fine. I love the 5th gen colors too, got the blue one. I'm ready for the Mini refresh, I use that as much as my phone!
@@fledgling5616 its not the same, the air 6 has a more saturated look to it rather than fully blue, depending on the viewing angles and lighting the color varies from a greyed out version of blue, to the actual grey color itself
dude the mini NEEDS to be kept in the lineup. I fear that they will get rid of it......but if they dont....the obvious progression into using an m chip is inevitable......the "mini pro" is something i really desire. I dont even mind if its slightly a little thick just to add some battery size.
I replaced a first generation 13 inch iPad Pro with the new 13 inch iPad Pro. Amazingly, my gen 1 pro was still working ok (1 hour battery and some odd bugs). I want my new iPad had to be relevant as long as possible because I don’t flip my technology very often. The iPad Air would have been fine. But I like to play the long tech game. Cheers!
Exactly my thought, current gen ipad air and ipad pro price are not that much different, so if folks plan to use it for a long time then why not get the pro. The price difference will be worth it in the long run.
Great video! I bought the iPad Air 13”. I upgraded from 2018 iPad Pro 11”. And for all I do it works perfectly fine. But I’ve wanted a bigger screen so I’m glad that Air got 13” screen.
dude sorry to upset you but going from pro to air is a downgrade in itself as your pro previously has pro motion and mini-led display which would be hugely missed while using your air on daily bases.
No, the screen size didn't increase from 10.9" to 11" on the Air. It was Apple's marketing gimmick. The screen size is actually not even 10.9" - it's 10.86", mentioned in fine print on Apple's website. On the Air 13", the screen size is 12.9". On the iPad Pro 11", the screen size is 11.1". Apple is playing with bezels just to push people up the pricing ladder. Pathetic imo.
@@adamburke4738 10.86'' is on apple website: Directly from the tech spec : "The 11‑inch iPad Air display has rounded corners that follow a beautiful curved design, and these corners are within a standard rectangle. Dude, no one cares. I don't care at all if my display is 10.9" or 10.86" What is pathetic is that you're actually upset about it... If anything, I'm glad that Apple refers to it as 10.9... I would get sick and tired of it if they kept saying "THIS IS THE ALL-NEW 10.86521" IPAD AIR".... The 0,24" won't make people choose a Pro over an Air... You gotta find other arguments to justify that. - like the performance differences or display tech.
I currently own a iPad mini 4 and want to upgrade to the iPad pro. I know it is more expensive but consider that the iPad mini has lasted for 8 years (though only in light use for the past couple of years), I think that spending a bit more for a better display, newer processor, and other things seems worth it (~ 500€). My birthday is also soon so I don't really care if I spend a little more money as it is a long term investment. Not that anyone cares, but I would be using the device for drawing, school work like note taking, gaming, watching videos... while I do think that the iPad Air could do these things as well, I'm looking into the future where I might be able to use the pro for longer.
Same here. Looking for my 1st ipad, I know the difference with the air is not nat big, but considering it will last for a long time, why not investing a bit more, price difference per year will hardly be noticeable. That’s what I’ve been doing with my macbook pros
@@_Alex_T_Go for the Pro. I got my Pro last week and i love it. I basically switched it for my phone xd. Now i regret that i got 15 pro because now i do everything on an ipad.
Bottom line if your Speedtest runs at 700mbps, it’s not because your iPad “runs better on WiFi 6”. Either ur speeds are locked to that speed with ur broadband provider or u have outdated or broken router/modem hardware. I have the M2 air and a WiFi 6E router and my speed tests run at 1200Mbps regularly.
iPad Pro 12.9 M2 is 829 for a 256gb and tons of cases to choose from today. I think that should be better than the M2 12.9 air. For 11” it’s a toss up with get a pro or an air. Up to you.
I think I'll totally be fine with the M2 Air.. but I really want that Pro display! I've been meaning to own at least one 120hz device.. and its been really long. So confusedd
I bought the 13 inch Air, I can't afford the 13 inch pro... if I could I would probably still get the 13 inch air, as I just don't personally think that the m4 performance is that impressive, compared to the m2. So I'll save up, use the 13 inch air for now and get the big pro when we get to the M6 chip or something.
How is the battery life man ? I kind of understood that the bigger versions of the iPads tend to have less battery life than the smaller versions… is the battery okay ? Or kind of short ?
@@eagleofdeath3471 Easily, I mean.. it all depends what you use it for, if you watch videos on it 24/7, obviously it won't last all day, but normal usage it last me a couple of days before I charge it.
I bought a used 12.9” iPad Pro M2 plus the keyboard and pencil for the same price as a new similar specced 13” iPad Air M2. Not having the landscape camera kinda sucks, but that miniLED screen is really sick for a non-OLED screen for sure.
In Canada, the closed box ipad 11” pro m2 still costs 1,099 C$ (800$) while the new ipad air m2 costs just 799 C$ (585$). There’re discounted refurbished ones at local stores but I decided to settle for the air😕
It's all confusing to me. I've never owned one before because of that. They are so expensive that I hate to buy the wrong one and waste time and money. All I want to do is hang it on my easel with photos I've taken and paint. I will be taking it outdoors to plein air paint, take some landscape photos in frame, edit photos, cut and paste multiple photo focal points together, and misc stuff before I paint them. Will also download RAW photos from my MarkIV Canon to edit, save and paint. Suggestions?????
I would say yes. I have been using an iPad pro 10.5 since 2018. I held on to my windows pc for a few years for gaming, but haven’t touched a pc now for almost 4 years. Now that my pro 10.5 is getting a bit long in the tooth, I’ll be upgrading to the 13 inch M2 Air. There is so much less frustration in the apple eco system than in a windows pc. I’ll never go back to windows.
I just got the last gen M2 pro 12.9 which is roughly the same cost as the M2 Air. It's also not refurbished, but brand new, since M4 Ipads haven't come out here yet.
I bought the 13” m4 ipad and I also have the M2 Pro 12.9. The m4 is 10x better when working outside..simply because the screen gets brighter. I work outside a lot so that matters to me - if I didn’t work outside a lot then I would stick to the M2 12.9
I'm a Windows and Android user that generally loathes Apple (due to years of being forced to use Macs throughout college and university). I'm in the market for a tablet to use for illustration. After a lot of research, my shortlist, in order of preference, was: 1. Surface Pro 11 Elite; 2. iPad Air 13 2024; 3. iPad Pro 512GB 2024. I just this moment got back from the mall, where I tried out all three. My shortlist has now changed to 1. iPad Pro 2024 1TB Etched Screen; 2. Surface Pro 11 Elite. The moment that I had the iPad Pro and iPad Air side-by-side, I noticed the 60hz difference in the screens. It was jarring to me, especially as my phone runs at 120hz and my PC monitor runs at 144hz. I tried to ignore it, but once you're used to high refresh rates, it's very hard to downgrade. The iPad Pro with the etched screen honestly blew me away. I really didn't expect to like it as much as I did. At first, I didn't quite notice a difference, but after a couple of minutes of drawing on each screen type, it suddenly clicked. I had my girlfriend do a blind test and she preferred the etched screen too. The viewing angles on the etched screen are amazing. As for the Surface Pro 11, the store didn't have a pen that I could test, so I've had to put a pin in that for now, but the screen certainly isn't as nice as the iPad etched. I'm still figuring out whether the Surface's flexibility and familiarity is worth the slightly lower quality screen. If I can figure out how to sideload apps onto the iPad Pro, then my decision may become much easier. Bonus note: this was my first experience of the Magic and Flex keyboards and I have to say that the Magic is hands down a superior product. The Flex felt cheap and I didn't enjoy the layout or the bounce when typing. Edit: A few days ago, I purchased the 13” M4 iPad Pro with Nano screen. Today, I downgraded to the 11” version, which I absolutely love.
I'm curious to see what you think, I'm a beginner artist (still in the learning stage) and I'm looking to buy an Ipad for studying and illustration. As a newbie to both art and ipads, would you recommend the air m2? Will the technical stuff be noticeable?
@@prim1791 I’ve settled on the 11” M4 iPad Pro with the nano screen. Regardless of model, I highly recommend getting an 11” over a 13”, unless you’re going to be using it at a desk like a laptop. If you’re going to be moving around and want something that you can hold comfortably in one hand, then 11” is perfect. I found the 13” to be cumbersome and uncomfortable to hold. I can draw just as well on the 11”. In terms of the model, that really comes down to your budget. The Air will undoubtedly do everything that you need. I was blown away by the nano screen on the Pro, so that swayed me. But the Air is essentially the same as the Pro, in all the other important areas.
I’m using ipad air m2 11”from about a month for both gaming and studying. Let’s not talk about studying but for games it’s totally beast. No lag in PUBG even whole crowd jump at bootcamp at same time. I’ve seen lag while jumping at bootcamp with screen recording on because electricity was gone and it’s too hot this year. But normally with fan it doesn’t heat. No 90fps. But i am not regretting by any chance with this ipad ❤
You can’t recommend it only after playing Pubg lol. Try Fortnite and Warzone mobile and you will delete your comment. Fortnite even at lowest settings does start to lag really bad when you get in a more team fight at the point you can’t even aim properly. It gets really hot and battery drains super fast like really super fast and dims down the screen.
Checked amazon and the ipad air that i wanted with 512gb space and cellular cost the same on amazon that it does in the apple store. So for the first time ever i actually went to the apple store and bought it and i am very happy with it
I just got the iPad Air 13 last week, its good ,but there’s so many optimizations and fixes to be done.the major problem is the speakers sound low and too hallow for its size. Other than that ,its a great tablet!
but that lcd display with 60hz feels quite dated at this point if you were to buy MacBook then air version may not be a problem if it fits your use case involving any sort of productivity and less for media consumption but iPad is mainly for watch videos, shows and movies so should think twice before going for a one with LCD display if plan to use it for media consumption
The new Air is a step back from even the iPad Pro 2018, which doesn’t make it that attractive to upgrade for 2018 Pro owners. I don’t need a fancier apple pencil but then lose 120hz. Also, having an M2 chip but then a lower brightness display, touch ID instead of face ID and and worse speakers are all bad tradeoffs. Imo the „Air“ line is bad value with the iPad. If you’re a basic user go with the cheapest, if not better to go Pro (even the last gen).
I was about to agree with you but then you just wrote nonsense. It’s not a bad value considering that it’s slightly more expensive than the MINI but better everything. It’s the best valued ipad when compared to other latest ipads
@@MaDDeX93 For some people it might be a good value. But if you currently own an iPad Pro 11inch from 2018 I don't think the Air is a good upgrade. I'd get a last-gen iPad Pro for almost the same price or the M4 Pro instead for the reasons I have already stated. Depending on your needs you may or may not disagree with that.
iPad is a iPhone - iPad Air is the iPhone pro and iPad Pro is the iPhone pro max. I went with the iPad Air as it’s just as good with less bells and whistles
Pro motion display should be standard across all devices even budget tablets have at least 90hz displays. The bezels should slim down and longer battery life
it really is pathetic for apple to still go for 60Hz imo. I have a Lenovo Pad P11 Gen 2 and it has a nice 120Hz screen and it comes with a keyboard + pen at like a 1/9 of the price of an iPad Pro with keyboard and pen
Is the battery life really as good as the pro model? The Juan&Only made a battery drain test between base ipad, ipad air m2 and the new pro m4. And the m2 air was the worst. I want to buy the m2 air but that battery life creeps me out. Any experiences?
Cool. Just got my the Pro👌 The 120hz, cleaner bezel, and face ID is the deciding factor alone. There’s a really annoying delay when using the pencil on the 60hz Air… Also, the trade in value will be much, much less with the Air later on.
... and double the base storage, OLED screen, quad speakers, studio mics, camera with lidar and true tone flash, lag free pencil use... most people will never realise how big an improvement the M4 Pro is!
Another great video Kyle! Also I believe the ideal iPad line up is the current entry level iPad 10th gen becomes the iPad SE, the new M2 airs and iPad mini are your standard iPads and then you have the pro models. Of course you would need to adjust the performance of the new standard iPads to be a little less powerful than they are currently to warrant the jumps to the pros. Just my 2 cents! Thanks
If you check the specs the `11' is exactly the same size as the ’10.9’,,, apple fine print clearly states that they rounded up the figure on this particular model. Weird they never did the same with all the others....
Thank you so much for an excellent and informative review. Your review has convinced me that I will be getting the iPad Air M2 and I’ve never really used an iPad with a high refresh rate. I’m kind of used to the 60 Hz refresh rate on my current iPad, which is the iPad ninth generation. I will most likely get the 1TB model for the iPad Air.
For the casual leisure use case user, an m2 Air would be fine indeed. Video editing on a pro I would prefer a M-chip pro version since these have a Thunderbolt usb and a great feature is editing from an external ssd’s. I’ve been editing on a 2018 Pro and the usb-c did have a lot of issues when editing from the ssd directly. Especially with mirrorless camera (4K) footage. I upgraded to a M2 pro and the experience is a world of difference editing with an ssd.

apple must give base model ipad a better display than still sticking out with age old LCD !!! iPad is mostly used for content consumption for which display hugly matters so ones who are going for air should just reconsider and may be buy an old pro version for a discounted price as there's not a huge difference between oled and min-led so don't have fall for apple marketing to rush and buy the new one
Im on the same boat as you. My 2018 pro still works great. I have this small urge to upgrade but I’m not willing to give up some features for the newer air and the pros are out of the budget right now.
I'm still surprised that apple isn't putting a lidar scanner on the air. It would help get more developers to consider developing ar content. There's a lot of great apps for lidar scanning.
That usb port speed is a major concern in my opinion, especially as a creative that uses multiple accessories. But is that worth the $400 difference? Hmm…
Simple questions: for just social media, youtube videos watching, using email and a few regular apps, no games, no drawing… am I better off with a 2021 or 2022 Ipad Pro 12.9 inch or the new 2024 Ipad Air 13 inch ? Since I need a big screen, now having a 10.5 inch Ipad Pro from 2017. I have 54 GB storage used off the 64 GB in that 2017 model, so best choose the 128 GB version or the 256 GB version for my future Ipad ? What could be the downside in my situation by buying the 2024 Air ?
Bought the 11 inch M2 about 8 days ago. Was replacing a iPad Air 4 that has battery issues. The new iPad doesn’t come close to a 10 hr battery. More like 5 hr. Apple needs a better battery. Other than that it’s great. Screen even looks better despite stats being the same.
This was a great review, you really captured the subtle, lived-in details of this new device in a short amount of time! That pencil hand grip tho… yikes lol
The M2 iPad Air IS the M2 iPad Pro. It's literally the same thing. The Air disabled face recognition, supporting only fingerprint reading, and maybe a couple of other minor differences, but it's literall the same iPad. Any case, any screen protector intended for the M2 iPad Pro will fit perfectly on the M2 iPad Air.
Honestly a big reason why I got the new pro 13 inch is for the keyboard. I wanted something to use and take around when I don’t need macOS. While it is expensive, and that ipadOS isn’t a macOS sub it’s a beautiful tablet experience.
for deskstop experience display might take a backseat but for iPad experience which is mainly for media consumption LCD display wouldn't be good enough even with that big size and keyboard rather go for older pro version
why not rather pay extra few hundred bucks and buy that base model 11inch m4 pro if you intend to use iPad as how its predominantly supposed to be used which is for media consumption. This bigger size air doesn't cut it as its LCD display isn't any waygood enough in present day .
I actually just bought a iPad 13” which will come soon! Even tho the pro has that nice display, it’s way too much money and tbh- I don’t need it. I’m trying to not be excessive and I think the 13” air will serve me better. I had to give up my older air and 2020 11” pro. The air didn’t survive a drop that I wasn’t aware of and my pro is…just isn’t doing so hot. I need my iPads for school and now for my internship. So I said “fuck it, I really need to do this”. I’m annoyed with my pro basically killing itself, but I had it for a long while and used it up pretty good. I hope this new air will do good! Especially as a college student
Such a good video. After watching a lot other reviews about the air 11 2024 I can say that such was by far the most professional and informative review by far. Thanks a keep up the good work!
For the price Apple asks for it, not having HDR and being only 60Hz is a shame. This isn’t something that make a device “Pro”, it’s just a better experience. It’s like every year is getting harder to keep using Apple products.

It depends on what you're referring to - it does have HDR support in the sense that it supports Smart HDR 4 for taking photos, but the display itself does not support HDR, as it's a Liquid retina IPS panel, which does not display content in HDR. That said, you can watch HDR content on platforms like RUclips, but this is done through a process known as Extended Dynamic Range (EDR), which simulates HDR by adjusting brightness levels rather than providing true HDR output

The mini LED like the OLED panel has severe PWM. This is a big deal if you end up being one of the unlucky PWM sensitives. There is also some questions that even those not PWM Sensitive may be straining their eyes using either panel on the pro.

On the Air 13", the screen size is 12.9".
On the iPad Pro 11", the screen size is 11.1".
Apple is playing with bezels just to push people up the pricing ladder. Pathetic imo.
Can you actually prove that?
@@adamburke4738 10.86'' is on apple website:
Directly from the tech spec :
"The 11‑inch iPad Air display has rounded corners that follow a beautiful curved design, and these corners are within a standard rectangle. When measured diagonally as a rectangle, the 11‑inch iPad Air is 10.86 inches. Actual viewable area is less."
My bad! Thanks for updating!
@@jonas8266 you cared enough to respond 😂😂

I bought a used 12.9” iPad Pro M2 plus the keyboard and pencil for the same price as a new similar specced 13” iPad Air M2. Not having the landscape camera kinda sucks, but that miniLED screen is really sick for a non-OLED screen for sure.
Where did you get the m2 iPad Pro from I’m trying to find one but everything is 1tb or more
In Canada, the closed box ipad 11” pro m2 still costs 1,099 C$ (800$) while the new ipad air m2 costs just 799 C$ (585$). There’re discounted refurbished ones at local stores but I decided to settle for the air😕

I’m a Windows PC user & I want to ditch my desktop in favour of an iPad…would this iPad Air be suitable? I don’t do any creating or gaming.
@@Bigpil2u Great, thanks!
I just got the last gen M2 pro 12.9 which is roughly the same cost as the M2 Air. It's also not refurbished, but brand new, since M4 Ipads haven't come out here yet.
Smart decision
Which country are you? In my country (Turkey) If I convert to dollars m2 pro 12.9 1500 dollars. m4 pro 11" 1500 dollars. 😐
I bought the 13” m4 ipad and I also have the M2 Pro 12.9. The m4 is 10x better when working outside..simply because the screen gets brighter. I work outside a lot so that matters to me - if I didn’t work outside a lot then I would stick to the M2 12.9
Smart man
Also new air has weaker version of m2. Old ipad pro is still better option
I'm interested in the studying part 😮 haha I plan on using it for studying and drawig (as a beginner)
Which fan you are using and how much heating it does as I have heard lot of heating issue with Ipad Air.
@@dexabyYes you are right. It does heat up pretty bad and that probably causes that massive lag at games like Fortnite.

I have the 2018 iPad Pro. What I object to is having rebuy the Apple Pencil to work with either the new Air and pro.
AFAIK the pencil had to be redesigned to work with the landscape camera location.
Cry all you want
I have some friends using it and they're complaining about the heating issue, so I had to skip it...

The only things I wished the Air 11 has is the face ID for unlocking the ipad and the magic keyboard with the function keys on the top.
iPad Air is 10.9 and the iPad Pro is 11.1. They are rounding this year.
Your lighting set and video quality are amazing.

I think it's a crime that I have an iPad Pro 2018 and it's a downgrade at some areas if I go for a 2024 iPad Air...
apple must give base model ipad a better display than still sticking out with age old LCD !!! iPad is mostly used for content consumption for which display hugly matters so ones who are going for air should just reconsider and may be buy an old pro version for a discounted price as there's not a huge difference between oled and min-led so don't have fall for apple marketing to rush and buy the new one

For the price Apple asks for it, not having HDR and being only 60Hz is a shame. This isn’t something that make a device “Pro”, it’s just a better experience. It’s like every year is getting harder to keep using Apple products.

The air m2 has HDR support.

Woudnt the M2 iPad Pro 2022 be an better option with its 120hz and mini-led display 🤔 I believe it has also better speakers compared to the new M2 Air. Or is the display on the new Air good enough compared to an mini-led 🤔 Also you miss out on the new Pencil pro ... dont know if that is an big deal or not if your not an artist and just take notes.
It would be if the 11 inch M2 Pro had a mini LED screen. Unfortunately, Apple restricted this to the 12.9 inch model.
The mini LED like the OLED panel has severe PWM. This is a big deal if you end up being one of the unlucky PWM sensitives. There is also some questions that even those not PWM Sensitive may be straining their eyes using either panel on the pro.
HELP. does ur overheat when taking notes? i’m in hs and i plan on majoring in engineering and i want one for school/college (must last 6 years) so i want the ipad air m2 128gb. but i heard of overheating issues while taking notes? notes r my primary purpose so jsut making sure.
No don’t listen to him. The battery life is really bad especially 11” model. It heats up a lot
So right, no need for more.
