I think your experiment has perfectly demonstrated how difficult things are for some people and the possible effects of this on a person. Well done, you did really well.

Think you are very hard on yourself, you tried something different put yourself well out of your comfort zone and at the end of the day if you had to follow it, if there was no choice you would have completed it and ate some good meals. I feel you made the right choice for you and your family by stopping the challenge when you did. Glad to have found your channel x

Hello there, I thought this 2 part series was great! I inputted all the items you purchased into a grocery app, and here in Canada in August 2023 it would have cost me $46.31 to do this challenge. We don't have eggs available in the 1/2 dozen so I did have some extra eggs to use for potential meals. Also, the addition of baking powder or yeast (as you mentioned) would help, as well as some sugar. Spaghetti hoops and a can of baked beans were the same price for me, so I opted for the beans. Here's what I came up with for potential meals with those modifications: breakfast 1) oatmeal x3; 2) eggs and hash brown potatoes; 3) yogurt and banana bread; 4) pancakes and sausage; lunches 1) beans and biscuits with veg; 2) biscuits and sausage gravy with veg; 3) poutine (french fried potatoes with cheese and gravy; 4) garlic naan bread with cheese and veg; dinners 1) scalloped potatoes with sausage and veg; 2) chickpea curry; 3) potato and veg frittata; 4) veg soup with tomato, cheese and gnocchi

I'm glad you enjoyed the challenge Shannon. I can't believe the cost of the ingredients in comparison to here in the UK. Your meal plan looks fab. Much better than my attempt! Thank you for watching x

I, too think you were very hard on yourself. You did very well. In Scotland we traditionally make porridge with water and add a pinch of salt. Once poured out the porridge kind of sets. We then pour a little milk over the top. Adding a few slices of banana adds to the flavour. Some people like to add a little sugar too. I think you came up with a few good ideas, Bernadette

I think you were very brave doing the challenge at all. I'm a fussy eater too and I hope to God never need to eat that food. God help anyone who has no other option. I think I've been spoiled because we have always had a kitchen garden and are good simple but experienced cooks so we have much to be grateful for. I have allergies to food additives preservatives colourings etc and you could be reacting to something in the foods you have been trying. Take good care of yourself now. I learned to restock our pantry and to plan meals around healthy foods that we actually like rather than things we think we should eat. Maybe we can try a challenge 80%healthy and 20%treats to see how we feel? Hope to see more from you. Best wishes from beautiful Ireland.

I think things would have been even harder without your skills at baking and making things from scratch. Someone who didn't learn or get taught by a parent or school or their own natural curiosity might have quite a tough time on that budget getting their nutritional needs met.

Learning to make pasta is my next project. I do have a pasta machine, but I don't know how to use it! Time to learn these things! I love that you keep in the things you consider not the best. Too many creators edit out the not so perfect projects! The veggie muffins looked good to me! Did you think about adding a pinch of salt and sugar to the oats?

you made the challenge and you were honest- it was hard. Cooking with such a limited budget needs either time for experiments (which you did) or experience. If this would be your reality, u would have finished the week and in the nex week, adjusted. But: Less honest youtubers might have presented the rest of the meals in the video and secretly aborted, eating their usual meals. So - thank you for that. You stil provided good tipps. btw, the oats with water taste much better with a little cinnamon!

Enjoyed your video, really interesting. For me, I would have wanted to have more protein (to fill me up), less carbohydrates, and more veg which is tricky with a low budget (you did well). I think I might have tried a small bag of red lentils and some frozen spinach instead of perhaps buying the tin of chickpeas and the sausages. Would have then used the lentils in the curry but also added to the pasta sauce (and bought some dried pasta to go with it). I might also have gone for tinned fish (sardines in tomato sauce are cheap but recognize they are not to everyone's taste) and perhaps added that to some pasta sauce for 1 meal as well. I tend to add an egg to my porridge at breakfast to get extra protein in order to stay full a bit longer as well. I've never tried making it, but with all those potatoes, I wonder what home made gnocchi would have been like as well? You've definitely given me more to think about, and I am going to look more closely at my meal planning too. I cook for one and am on a low budget but haven't tried £10 a week recently, and given the way UK food prices have increased, I really wouldn't have thought it was possible until I saw your video. Thanks.

Hi thanks for posting this up.
I do think there is a flaw in the plan by not using what’s available in the garden or what could be foraged as this could add elements of organic food.
    Hope you recovered well.

I think your very hard on yourself, it would have been very difficult for anyone to make delicious food with so few ingredients, most of us have a lot of staples in our pantry's which obviously you didn't use many to make the experiment more accurate, I guess. I do think maybe a £40 for 4 weeks then divide the food by 4 might work better. That way you could have maybe bought porridge bran flakes cornflakes and made and froze pancakes to have with bananas and syrup which you'd obviously have to buy bnanas fresh each week. As an example or any 4 cheap breakfasts you like divided by 4 weeks to give you more variety than porridge every day. And you could maybe make more variety and hopefully more nutritious meals to freeze and have at later weeks if it was £40 for 4 weeks instead of £10 for one week if that makes sense. I haven't costed it recently though to be fair. Not that you'd necessarily want to do it for 4 weeks. The thing I'd find very hard is no snacks and only 1 cup of tea a day. Also not much milk available at all is hard but I suppose spending £1.45 out of only £10 would be a lot of the budget gone on milk. When we were on a very strict food budget because I have a daughter who loses weight if she doesn't eat sweet stuff I used to make a large tray bake cake each week to have throughout the week. I'd freeze half to get out later in the week and we'd eat that. That was between 4 of us. I used to spend about £25 a week on all 4 of us but there was a lot of yellow stickers and I shopped at a highly discounted shop for a lot of things too, and there is no way I could do it for that now prices are just too high. We ate a lot of things with rice and pasta which I bought in bulk every 3 - 4 months or so. So they weren't included in the £25 so add a few pounds a week for that. I asked the local butchers when they discounted meat and I used to turn up at that time each night till I had enough meat for a month in the freezer. Again not exactly duplicatable as you don't know what will be on offer each week. Don't be so hard on yourself £10 is almost impossible now x

If you selected the self raising flour instead of regular flour, you would not have needed the baking powder. Self rising flour has baking powder in it
