97 for me. I was just commenting on how I like that they’re starting to go with a more realistic and darker tone again with some of the PokéDec flavor texts and such in Sword and Shield. I loved that kind of realism in the older generations. (Like some species of Pokémon tearing into and eating others, some Pokémon killing people in weird ways, or Pokémon dying in different ways. They strayed from those ideas for a long time to make it even more “kid friendly” and it was a little too “happy fun kid time” for me at points.)
I've been here since 2001. But my sister was born in '98 and my brother's even older so, I inherited interest in Gens I, II, and III from them as a child. So lucky I was to have older siblings make the 90's look cool. WIthout them I would've barely been an honorary 90's kid. The coolest kind of kid. I've gotten off topic.
Oh wow, i didn't know Phoebe's grandma was actually dead and that she talked to her spirit. Kinda makes some of the dialogue in Pokemon Masters different with that context.

I'm glad you brought up the Phoebe stuff in ORAS. There were so many additional character and environment bits compared to the original RSE games that I feel a lot of people miss, such as this and the stuff with Prof. Cozmo's father.

I bet Masuda laughs his head off whenever he sees how many people have dedicated so much effort to the mystery of X and Y's ghost girl. Just from watching this video, you see that pretty much every game has had some form of weird, mysterious ghost or ghostly apparition appear, and I bet the designers and director's intent was just "OoOoOoOo, creepy ghost mystery, isn't that a fun little spooky surprise" so the fact that people are so hooked on them, and seem to have gravitated to XY's particularly, people behind the games probably find it funny that people want to find more meaning and a solution to something that means nothing.
In Platinum, you can trigger the ghost butler event by talking to the Pokemon statue right by the entrance to the kitchen before entering. The ghost girl can be triggered directly following that, and if you go to the room with the TV on it during a Friday night, talking to the TV and saying yes to whatever the question was (I forgot what it exactly was) will let you fight a Lv 15 Rotom.
Here’s something creepy: the Pokédex entry for Shedinja states that there’s a hole in its back and if anyone looks into that hole they go to the land of the dead or something. That and Shedinja’s based on the shedded skin of a cicada as a zombie!
Despite Espeon, a fellow Psychic type, being my all time favorite Pokemon Drowzee is actually my all time favorite Psychic type Pokemon due to its origin story of it being based off of the Baku. The ancient Japanese story of the Baku has always been my favorite ancient Japanese story.

Honestly, they started going pretty “real”/dark with Sword and Shield’s PokéDex flavor texts. It’s a bit reminiscent of the older Pokémon days and I love it. They used to talk about some Pokémon catching/hunting and eating other Pokémon, or deaths of some Pokémon and even deaths of people from Pokémon. They lightened up on it a lot for a long time. I’m glad they’re getting more biologically sound as far as species interactions in the Pokémon universe(s) again.
The most creepy thing about PKMN the order of them doesn't make sense in the dex, or the in game rules don't mix well with the universe. I'm looking at you Cubone. Still at least we know the dex entries are BS, except for Hypno. Then again it's a game.

I think the Hypno was trying to save the girl from the Driftloon actually. One of Hypno's Pokedex entries says that they take away sleeping people to feed on their dreams--so the one about it taking a child probably was just an instance of that...but a child. Also, Driftloon kill small children, and Baku were also considered protectors of children: "The baku can also be summoned for protection from bad dreams prior to falling asleep at night. In the 1910s, it was common for Japanese children to keep a baku talisman at their bedside." So, I think the Pokemon company did not originally intend the child predator angle, and went along with it later, at times, cause of the creepypasta's popularity. So the last story is like a Hypno redemption arch.

Here's a theory of mine: as said by DYKG, Pokémon X and Y have the Easter egg of the Ghost hex occurs after the player first enters the 2nd floor of the Dojo via the elevator. And at an earlier point, another Hex Maniac says to the player 'Don't talk to me. If you do, I can't hear the elevator' additionally, since the only character archetype to say the phrase 'No, You're not the one' is the hex maniac, the fact that Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire (and by extension, the remakes) take place before X and Y, and the fact that the Dialog is shared between the two games by a Hex Maniac, it's possible that the Hex Maniac in Ruby and Sapphire died at the age we see her at (Sound off if you know the age of Hex Maniacs, because I sure as hell don't) and haunted tall buildings, since the only place we see these two are buildings that have more than 2 floors.
fun fact the ghost girl in X&Y actually had a story she was a casualty of the kalos civil war (a plot point that was cut) you were meant to do something for her and she would grant you a sooth bell. this and many other plots including ones for the unopenable doors and the words on the back of the train board as well as X&Y2 and the entirety of southern Kalos were cut cause game freak wanted to rush out ORAS instead. so we will never get to experiences what Kalos could have been a very sad truth.

I think one of the most creepy things in pokemon was the arceus event in HG/SS. Just random pictures and creeoy music. And the whole thing just kind of came out of nowhere which made it even more creepy.

Honestly, they started going pretty “real”/dark with Sword and Shield’s PokéDex flavor texts. It’s a bit reminiscent of the older Pokémon days and I love it. They used to talk about some Pokémon catching/hunting and eating other Pokémon, or deaths of some Pokémon and even deaths of people from Pokémon. They lightened up on it a lot for a long time. I’m glad they’re getting more biologically sound as far as species interactions in the Pokémon universe(s) again.

The most creepy thing about PKMN the order of them doesn't make sense in the dex, or the in game rules don't mix well with the universe. I'm looking at you Cubone. Still at least we know the dex entries are BS, except for Hypno. Then again it's a game.

Oh wow I actually never knew about most of these things. The first one and last ones are pretty creepy. Hopefully there will be more creepy ghost things in Sword and Shield.
I think the Hypno was trying to save the girl from the Driftloon actually. One of Hypno's Pokedex entries says that they take away sleeping people to feed on their dreams--so the one about it taking a child probably was just an instance of that...but a child. Also, Driftloon kill small children, and Baku were also considered protectors of children: "The baku can also be summoned for protection from bad dreams prior to falling asleep at night. In the 1910s, it was common for Japanese children to keep a baku talisman at their bedside." So, I think the Pokemon company did not originally intend the child predator angle, and went along with it later, at times, cause of the creepypasta's popularity. So the last story is like a Hypno redemption arch.

Got a ghost in the corner of my right eye watching this, I'm 16 floors up... damn Pokemon you scary!
Here's a theory of mine: as said by DYKG, Pokémon X and Y have the Easter egg of the Ghost hex occurs after the player first enters the 2nd floor of the Dojo via the elevator. And at an earlier point, another Hex Maniac says to the player 'Don't talk to me. If you do, I can't hear the elevator' additionally, since the only character archetype to say the phrase 'No, You're not the one' is the hex maniac, the fact that Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire (and by extension, the remakes) take place before X and Y, and the fact that the Dialog is shared between the two games by a Hex Maniac, it's possible that the Hex Maniac in Ruby and Sapphire died at the age we see her at (Sound off if you know the age of Hex Maniacs, because I sure as hell don't) and haunted tall buildings, since the only place we see these two are buildings that have more than 2 floors.

fun fact the ghost girl in X&Y actually had a story she was a casualty of the kalos civil war (a plot point that was cut) you were meant to do something for her and she would grant you a sooth bell. this and many other plots including ones for the unopenable doors and the words on the back of the train board as well as X&Y2 and the entirety of southern Kalos were cut cause game freak wanted to rush out ORAS instead. so we will never get to experiences what Kalos could have been a very sad truth.

Drifblim:- child kidnapper.
Phantump:- child who died in the woods.
Lampent:- hangs out near hospital and waits for people to die.
Oh wow, wonder if the Drifloon girl in Alola is supposed to be the same kid in Sinnoh who waits for the Drifloon to arrive at that power plant on Fridays. Maybe one day she got too close to Drifloon and it stole her away?
I think one of the most creepy things in pokemon was the arceus event in HG/SS. Just random pictures and creeoy music. And the whole thing just kind of came out of nowhere which made it even more creepy.
...Yeah the Luminose ghost freaked me out when I first saw it, and I was in my 20s. Oh yeah, and encountering Rotom in Platinum, that was creepy.
