I remember the Yoshi rumor. I wanted it to real so bad, especially since Link's Awakening on gameboy had Mario characters in it too. Seemed possible at the time lol.
11:49 I swear I remember seeing an old Did You Know Gaming image that said the "if you say 'playstation' into the microphone Pikachu gets angry" thing was real.
Well exposing yourself to a constant feeling of unease isn't great. Though just like any other horror, once it's off, you might have nightmares for a week if you are sensitive to it, but it fades.
Lavender town tune? In fact there is a note in change log, that it was altered due to "psychological issues". But it was due to high pith sound in Green version, what cause headaches. Despite whole "it being creepy", this story strain also from confusion with real event. Over hundred kids were hospitalized due to one of anime episodes causing epilepsy. It was "Virtual Soldier Porygon" incident. Also it was episode, what in fact contain explanation of PokeSystem work. What due to lack of proper explanation in the show, is still source of misconceptions regard subject (it is teleportation by the way).
Honestly the unknown spelling Celebi in the party and using cut on the shrine would of been pretty cool. Also catching all pokemon besides mew and getting a GS ball would of been dope I wish they really gave you more hidden features like that
i beat the elite 4 in emerald in the hopes of a shiny Gen 1 starter... my friend had ashiny charmander and told me thats how he got it... found out about a year later that he used an action replay Oops i ment i beat it like 30 times not just once
I remember when Yuriofwind was just starting out and i accidentally insulted him lmao I called his series lukewarm in an argument with someone not trying to say its watched by 2882727 people but also not trying to say its shit, but it just came off as me saying it wasn't good. I lay awake at night still thinking about that.
I remember my friend told me that you could get Deoxys on the moon in Ruby and Sapphire by beating the Elite Four 100 times, then catching Latios or Latias and bringing it to the Space Center.
6:40 you actually have to bring dragonite and lickitoung to Bill’s secret garden along with professer Oak’s parcel. Bill will clone the the parcel and let you catch Luigi and Yoshi.
I knew a guy who said he had caught Mew and Pikablu. It was my older brother and it was a full ten years before I found out that he was a filthy stinking liar.
Honestly that sounds funny. Some of these rumors I'm kinda glad aren't true (beating the game 100 times is a horrible trigger for events), but that would be neat.
ANueUtsuho I know right, and honestly beating Pokemon 100 times isn't that bad...you just need to play different every time...of course you won't get anything in return, but the game is fun either way! 🤷♀️
Yeah I remember that were a kid told me back in school about tapping the button will catch the Pokemon faster. It's fascinating that rumors spread just as good as the internet back then but also so much misinformation.
I remember a lot of these rumors! I miss the days before the internet sometimes. I still press A when I catch Pokémon. The magikarp splash one, the pokeball catch one, and the lavender town creepy pasta, and catching all Pokémon for mew were popular in the 90s. I remember the rumors on a new hidden legendary because of the anime showing Ho-Oh when only RGBY existed.
These days I think these rumours have been replaced with “game theories”. And before that they were replaced with creepypastas back when people thought creepypastas were real. Even after the internet, people will find ways to expand upon games with “what if” ideas and rumors. It’s almost comforting to know it never really dies.
Theories aren’t really as popular as they were before so I’d say theories aren’t the replacement. I’d say leaks are much bigger as they not only change the way a game may be played but bring excitement at the idea sort of like rumors.
Eghm... the difference is that theories are possible (until they are stupid like Ash comma). Rumors are sensationalist and commonly make no sense if you think about it.
The original official guides for Blue and Red actually had tips about holding down buttons to increase the catch rate. It wasn't just a rumor, it was officially in print.
I won my school's pokemon tournament by scoring a critical hit on a guys Dragonite, with my Luigi's family reunion. I'll never forget that moment for as long as I live.
Incredible how these rumors did spread through seemingly every schoolyard on earth :D Also a bit sad how Gamefreak never included anything close to these secret tricks to get specific pokemon
I love all that mystery from the 90s. Looking at Ho-Oh on the first episode from the anime but not knowing what Pokemon it was, the truck at the SS Anne, the GS ball, the entire Gen 2 beta (which in the end was released). The low quality pictures helped a lot to create that atmosphere. I'm so glad I grew up on the 90s.
When I was little around 5-6 or so I believed these rumors that went around my school and friends in Brooklyn: -You could get Togepi in gen 1 by using fly to "Sky City" -You could get Lugia, Togepi, or Snubull "I called him Bubble" by going to the St Anne after it left and you could choose q of 3 pokeballs by a gentleman in the ship -You could use the St Anne to get Lugia from a pokeball taken back after the Orange Islands -In Pokemon Yellow, you could get Misty and Brock to follow you -You could use the Space Shuttle in Pewter City to access either Pokegods and Alien Pokemon or even Mewthree -You could get Marill from the Orange Islands from the St Anne
Okay I remember the diamond and pearl rumours about yelling “snap” or “wake up” but I swear they were from the GameStop official strategy guide for those games
When I was younger, my older sister’s friend told me that in pokemon diamond and pearl, you could catch Turtwig in Sunnyshore city, but only if your save file was 1 in 100 or something (which I thought were impossible odds back then). As a result, despite playing through those games what must’ve been 20 times, I NEVER Chose Turtwig, always holding on to the hope that I would get the lucky save file and get 2 out of the 3 starters in one playthrough (nevermind that I could, y’know, just trade with people to get more than one starter oer game). Last month I picked up Diamond again and chose Turtwig for the first time and wanted to soft reset for a decent nature. In just three SRs, I had a shiny. I’d like to think in some odd way, I did end up beating the odds, even if they weren’t the odds I initially was fighting for. Her name is Shelby and I don’t regret that playthrough one bit
Yeah I remember most of those. Pikablu rumors started because the Japanese Marill card was out as a promo card before Gold & Silver came out. And I forgot about Sapasaur but I heard that one too.
I remember one for heart gold and soul silver. If you beat the game, without using any cheats or hacks, by catching all pokemon. Getting all pokemon to level 100. And using each pokemon at least once to beat the elite four, you got to face the creator of pokemon using an all legendary team with Japanese names at level 100
growing up i didnt really fall for these rumors since i wasnt aware of most of them, but i do remember falling for one in x and y. they said that you could get genesect breaking the rocks in the cave where you get your first fossil, and i remember spending hours trying to get him. sigh,if only game freak created an actual event for mythical pokemon instead of just giving them away randomly
I remember the Splash rumor. I remember being told it was the most powerful move in the game and if you just spammed it enough it would one hit KO anything. I spent forEVER spamming splash and a ton of full heals to see it.

The internet ain't got shit compared to a loose network of sugar-addled eleven-year-olds.
Internet was not that big in 3rd world countries then and even we believe all kind of shit
@@kagari1426 Umh..
I legit heard some of these rumours and I always lived in Germany^^
19:40 For a fan prediction that’s actually pretty close to what Bonsly actually looks like.
True, but it helped that they based it off of the silhouette that came out.
To be honest it just looks like a Bonsly with a ditto face.
I love how one of Luigi's moves is straight up Family Reunion. Like what does he do, throw potato salad at another pokemon?
omg it's the real Juju Xenoblade I can't believe it can I get your autograph
Family reunion is a very damaging move, they get together and ask you about your girlfriend, or when are you going to graduate, very very effective
Mama Luigi comes and pinches your cheeks
"Pokemon Earth, Wind and Fire"
Do you remember? The 21st night of September
Ahhhh say do you remember
Ahhhhh dancing in September
Saw this comment and it's the 21st of September lol
That Luigi myth is so hilarious, I love it.
I remember the Yoshi rumor. I wanted it to real so bad, especially since Link's Awakening on gameboy had Mario characters in it too. Seemed possible at the time lol.
Well Yoshi's first ever game was made by gamefreak so maybe one day well see yoshi getting catched in a pokeball
11:49 I swear I remember seeing an old Did You Know Gaming image that said the "if you say 'playstation' into the microphone Pikachu gets angry" thing was real.
Yeah I swear I remember that
“This rumour most likely stemmed from the music being creepy”
It tis
17:08 Hold up, Did they just predict Pokemon Unite
Or, you know, they used the name after the old rumor
Yep
Accept the rumor was an mmo not a moba
Honestly the unknown spelling Celebi in the party and using cut on the shrine would of been pretty cool.
Also catching all pokemon besides mew and getting a GS ball would of been dope I wish they really gave you more hidden features like that
Ever since the internet era started these funny rumours have all but died. I miss when people used to come up with all these rumours and myths.
i beat the elite 4 in emerald in the hopes of a shiny Gen 1 starter... my friend had ashiny charmander and told me thats how he got it... found out about a year later that he used an action replay
Oops i ment i beat it like 30 times not just once
Now we have leaks and theories
@@danielcampos1715 leaks and datamines*
Early internet was a blessing I'm thankful I was around for everyday. These days internet is lame as hell when it comes to game
Nah, the early Internet was never a blessing. It was just as scummy and corrupt as it is today. We were just too stupid and naive to notice.
Does anybody remember Yuriofwind’s video on the “Pokegods”.
I love yuriofwind!
ancient video
Kinda
I remember when Yuriofwind was just starting out and i accidentally insulted him lmao
I called his series lukewarm in an argument with someone not trying to say its watched by 2882727 people but also not trying to say its shit, but it just came off as me saying it wasn't good.
I lay awake at night still thinking about that.
Yeah, that was around the time I subbed to him.
17:00 Pokemon earth wind and fire, releasing september 21st
I remember my friend told me that you could get Deoxys on the moon in Ruby and Sapphire by beating the Elite Four 100 times, then catching Latios or Latias and bringing it to the Space Center.
“Pokémon unite was to be an online RPG.”
_hmm_
6:40 you actually have to bring dragonite and lickitoung to Bill’s secret garden along with professer Oak’s parcel. Bill will clone the the parcel and let you catch Luigi and Yoshi.
:0
OH MAH GAWD
Does Luigi just say his name or is he a talking pokemon?
I still tap the A button when catching Pokémon
Ur doing it wrong. Hold b button :)
Still doing it wrong. Press L and R interchangeably to the best of the song.
Same
I spam down and b together

I knew a guy who said he had caught Mew and Pikablu. It was my older brother and it was a full ten years before I found out that he was a filthy stinking liar.
Pika blu!!!! I remember having a debate on that
You in fact can cough Mew...
I have wasted so much damn time trying so many of these when I was younger. Turns out I went to school with a bunch of liars
As a kid around 1999-2000 I definitely heard some of these.
Tool?
Spongebob: “Hey Patrick what I’m i now?”
Patrick :“A fire starter”
Spongebob: “No I’m a fighting starter”
Patrick: “What’s the difference?”
"Some Claimed That If Players Named Any Water Type Pokemon A Curse Word Misty Will Slap The Player."
Sure she will lol! 😂😂😂
"Go, Bitch!"
"Misty used DoubleSlap!"
@@anueutsuho7425 Reminds me of the wheat sword from Golden Sun... People just gotta put the most outlandish steps to achieve it!
OK, how about a team of Pokemon named after swear words?
Ass
Fuck

Shit
Bollocks (the last one has a British curse word for its name)
Yeah I remember that were a kid told me back in school about tapping the button will catch the Pokemon faster. It's fascinating that rumors spread just as good as the internet back then but also so much misinformation.
I always held down the A button harder and also heard a rumor to tap A as soon as the pokeball hits the pokemon head to increase the catch rate.
I used to slap my dick on the screen and that usually worked.
I never heard it as a rumor but I did the button tap too lmao. I think its just like a habit of sorts
I remember printing these “cheats” out from geocities websites when I was a kid 😭
Man I used to have so much various pokemon stuff printed out lmao now all pokemon info is stored on my phone bc I'm an organized adult
Anyone remember when Mewtwo Y was leaked and everyone was calling it "Newtwo"?
I only remember people calling it Mewthree. Newtwo sounds nicer tho ngl.
The way he says Gyarados doesn't sit right with me
He also says "turr wig" instead of turtwig
He said “supposably” which is just worse.
These days I think these rumours have been replaced with “game theories”. And before that they were replaced with creepypastas back when people thought creepypastas were real. Even after the internet, people will find ways to expand upon games with “what if” ideas and rumors. It’s almost comforting to know it never really dies.
Now creepypastas have been replaced with something far worse: Nuzlockes
Theories aren’t really as popular as they were before so I’d say theories aren’t the replacement. I’d say leaks are much bigger as they not only change the way a game may be played but bring excitement at the idea sort of like rumors.
Eghm... the difference is that theories are possible (until they are stupid like Ash comma). Rumors are sensationalist and commonly make no sense if you think about it.
@@TheRezro that's why leaks are more fitting as this generation's leaks.
Incredible how these rumors did spread through seemingly every schoolyard on earth :D
Also a bit sad how Gamefreak never included anything close to these secret tricks to get specific pokemon
Ikr wish they aleast did throw something in the remakes
The quests for capturing the Regi trio come pretty close.
It made me think of Mortal kombat putting them in, but not pokemon
yeah, so did that rumour with marylin mansion removing a rib.
Everywhere around the globe
Well. They still didn't officially confirm that Pokemon and Earthbound is the same universe, so...
I remember in my school when silver and gold were announced everyone talked about there being a new Pikachu called Pikablue! But ended up being Maril.
Ho-oh blew my mind watching it in the first episode as a 9 year old.
When I was little around 5-6 or so I believed these rumors that went around my school and friends in Brooklyn:
-You could get Togepi in gen 1 by using fly to "Sky City"
-You could get Lugia, Togepi, or Snubull "I called him Bubble" by going to the St Anne after it left and you could choose q of 3 pokeballs by a gentleman in the ship
-You could use the St Anne to get Lugia from a pokeball taken back after the Orange Islands
-In Pokemon Yellow, you could get Misty and Brock to follow you
-You could use the Space Shuttle in Pewter City to access either Pokegods and Alien Pokemon or even Mewthree
-You could get Marill from the Orange Islands from the St Anne
"Button mashing doesn't increase the chances of catching a Pokemon"

17:06 Don’t let fascinating rumors distract you from the fact that someone actually lost the first rival battle in RSE...
Same happened to me on a nuzlock...
That’s Chuggaaconroy’s footage
It happened to OneyNG on his gameplay channel when he played red/blue too! Lol
Okay I remember the diamond and pearl rumours about yelling “snap” or “wake up” but I swear they were from the GameStop official strategy guide for those games
Luigi slapping you with his mustache is just legendary
Anyone else remember searching up “MewThree” and so on? I used to also search up “Goku super saiyan 5” and upwards. Those were the days
Mewthree does exist! It’s also known as Killer Queen!

Ah yes, the classic, age-old rumor of being able to find Mew under a truck lol.
Crono Sapien this was a fact between my peers. Pre internet age for many.
I actually have a virus on my Pokemon Blue that lets me catch mew under the truck.
@@Porygonal64 You mean a hack?
@@TheRezro Nnnope.
I have it on cartridge and if I enter a battle or trade with any other cartridge it spreads to their game as well.
@@Porygonal64 It is a hack. Or you are really bad at trolling ;D

Seeing how so many "Poké-gods" are from evolutions, I like the idea that the first starters' mega evolutions are a homage to that.
Yeah I remember most of those. Pikablu rumors started because the Japanese Marill card was out as a promo card before Gold & Silver came out. And I forgot about Sapasaur but I heard that one too.
17:06 SAY DO YOU REMEMBER
My niece who lives in Japan told me those games won't be released until the 21st night of September, 2021.

Man, I used to love hearing rumors like this. It's unfortunate data mining and whatever else makes this impossible now.
"Pokemon Eart, Wind, and fire."
*BURSTS INTO A SOLO CHORUS OF SEPTEMBER*
I remember one for heart gold and soul silver.
If you beat the game, without using any cheats or hacks, by catching all pokemon. Getting all pokemon to level 100. And using each pokemon at least once to beat the elite four, you got to face the creator of pokemon using an all legendary team with Japanese names at level 100
The rumor culture was so fascinating back then, it's a shame I never got to be part of it.
Shiro-Luna I agree with you :3
growing up i didnt really fall for these rumors since i wasnt aware of most of them, but i do remember falling for one in x and y. they said that you could get genesect breaking the rocks in the cave where you get your first fossil, and i remember spending hours trying to get him. sigh,if only game freak created an actual event for mythical pokemon instead of just giving them away randomly
i remember all these when i was a kid, especially mew under the truck, pikablue, and bills secret garden

I remember the Splash rumor. I remember being told it was the most powerful move in the game and if you just spammed it enough it would one hit KO anything.

The idea of Lickitoung evolving into Luigi puts images and explanations into my mind that only the Darkest depths of Fanart could conjure.
