Longer Tutorial (more likely to work if game gets struck down) -
Step 1: Install the Browser using P2K4AD9.exe (or P2K6AD9.exe if you don't have Internet Explorer installed) from CYBERWORLD.zip\CYBERWORLD\Backup CD #2\apps\Pokémon\ (from archive.org)
Step 2: Download & Install Clean Flash Player 34: web.archive.org/web/2023000000...
Step 3: Download & install MAMP here (free version): www.mamp.info/en/downloads/
Step 4: Download the 'p2kresurrected + fixed.zip' from archive.org & extract it into C:/MAMP/htdocs
Step 5: Open MAMP & the servers should boot (apache one is the important one)
Step 6: Open the Pokemon 2000 Browser as Administrator & type localhost/game/borgs/intro.borg in the navigation bar & the game should begin.

"just turning into an adult wasn't very interesting"
As an adult, they're right.
I'm gonna be an adult in less than a year and I'm scared
@@KoopatheQuickDon’t be. I’ve been doing this whole adult thing for 4 years now and I’ll say that it’s not that bad. I’d go as far as to say that it’s better. School gets replaced with work, but unlike school there’s actual rewards.
are you am adult from a popular video game... no i didn't think so. i think this would have been a fun bonus.
I love how this went from a gaming channel to an investigative journal channel. I love you guys and gals here’s to 2024!
It is a gaming channel. They just had collected all interesting retro stuff and started searching for new retro facts from developers and Japan exclive sources
@@napoleonfeanor🤓
@@napoleonfeanorso they collected information from obscure and otherwise inaccessible sources, and interviewed insiders to obtain previously unknown information and presented their findings to the general public?
That sounds like journalism to me...
@@TheYoungSandwichfilmwhy not both? Both is good
Honestly it’s so cool. I like the upgrade.
It's still wild to me that one of the most iconic video game quotes ("You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?") came from Mitsuhiro Takano basically venting about how rough it was to work on MM.
Yeah, and the famous "a rushed game is always bad" was something Miyamoto never said. In fact, he gave them only a year and kept pestering them whilst they were working.
@@3ftninja132that section of the video is pretty damning. I feel like you never hear about Nintendo crunching besides Pokemon. It reminds me of how MAPPA animators lashed out during Jujutsu Kaisen’s second season.
Miyamoto sounds like an asshole lol
lol
And got everyone thinking Link was dead. I wonder what Takano thinks of that.
MLP and l*sbian flag profile pic. Double mental illness.
@@itstowersss443 Smash is pretty notorious for it, too. Japan as a whole has a lot of overworking. It's the main reason for their higher depression/suicide rates and why they're not having kids.
MAN that Starfox pitch sounds like SO MUCH FUN, I'm so so sad it never made it. Eric really had something there, it's a damn shame he wasn't given a chance.
I agree. More starfox would be great. Seems like he had something
For real! Probably the #1 upsetting gaming fact, in my eyes.
There is no way that wouldn't have brought Star Fox back as a series, damn.
Thats what it needed. Same gameplay as 64 but with a bunch of cool stuff around that to create a gameplay loop. He really figured it out.
incredible how Nintendo turned it down considering the Wii U had no games - especially at that point in time
God I know right? Just thinking about the concept for this game (that will sadly never exist) actually makes me want to cry.
Nintendo cancelling a game for being too good is so in character for them.
XD Yeah.... at least their reason did make sense from a marketing perspective. as it wouldn't be until Gen 6 where they try more 3D worlds but still grid locked, and Gen 7 allowing for full on 3D. Ironically BD/SP proved that fans do find the 3D more enjoyable and don't really want to return to grid form, even factoring nostalgia (but I think the reason it failed is because it was a carbon copy)
@@MarioMastar Yeah, it's a decent game, and a full pokemon game in that style engine would be sweet.
This is why I'm a Patreon. You don't just Google a few things and wrap a video around existing articles. This is real journalism.
I insist how Armada sounds like the Star Fox game that we didn't know we needed until we knew about it, hopefully the project has a chance to resurrect like Metroid Dread (just not taking so many years to become a thing)
It would have come out, everyone would have complained about it just like they complain about everything Star Fox related, then it would have failed.
“Turning into an adult just isn’t very interesting” Truer words have never been spoken.
The fact that you went from only making videos on interesting video game facts (which is a good subject for a youtube channel don't get me wrong) to helping to preserve old games or dig up new info on them is amazing. I'm thankful for all the work you put in.
The fact that one of the most iconic lines of dialogue in any Zelda game, "You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you," was just the devs venting is mind-blowing, holy shit.
I think starfox armada would have been a complete success, sound increíble and I think it would work even on the switch even without the miiverse
Same! It really sucks it didn't get really far. And since you can turn off online features, you wouldn't need it to complete the game, which is nice for when servers go down
For all their brilliance, Nintendo can be so backwards thinking sometimes.
which is a good thing considering how good their business is doing
How's it possible that Nintendo's able to feel jealous?
"which is a good thing"
based on what? you don't have any timeline to compare it to.
@greghuffman3061 I mean, Nintendo is slow to follow industry trends, which can be good when it means they don't do games as a service or NFT, but bad when they also have poor backwards compatibility and online policies.
It's a mixed bag. I trust Nintendo to make good single player games, but not as much for some external policies. Does that make sense?
Even ignoring the one year time limit, it’s a miracle how Majora’s Mask was finished given how weird/bad the team dynamic seems to have been
Translating old Japanese magazines/interviews has literally changed the game in finding new info
Okay, yeah, the "Adept" story genuinely hurts. That definitely wasn't the designer's fault - no company should be so self-centered as to think anything made beyond their walls isn't worth learning from.
All companies are this way. And it actually makes sense. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's not valid. You have to remember that Nintendo is a company that innovates, doesn't just ride trends. Nintendo's philosophy has always been "we don't copy, we do original things" and that's what people look to them for. So it only makes sense they have this mentality.
@@thenightstar8312
You can't innovate if you don't know what's going on outside your four walls.
@@thenightstar8312 I promise, Nintendo has used outside trends and other games as inspiration for their own work. They don't wall themselves off completely from the outside world.
@@thenightstar8312 I understand that, but it is weird that they are so closed to the world that sometimes can feel like they live in another dimension, saying things like seeing graphics that they could imagine to a very nirmal game, or getting surprised when someone outside Nintendo made something good. It's weird
Not true. He should've designed and pitched the game differently. He knew how Nintendo is and didn't account for it in his design.
The idea of having Dark Souls like invasions in a Nintendo game sounds like it would've been amazing.
5:45 "Takaya Imamura, probably best known as the creator of characters like Star Fox, Captain Falcon, and TINGLE." Now THAT's a twist ending.
It's always god damn Ken Penders ruining everything
Imagine the MM moon having angry miyamoto face.
Big SMG4 vibes there.
Never underestimate the promotional power of an early-00s point 'n' click Flash game. Case in point; Mata Nui Online.
Bionicle Gen 2 wasn't as successful because it didn't have it's own version of Mata Nui Online. Great game.
This was soo much more really fast blue hedgehog lore than I needed, expected, and deserved.
So sick that he saved all the files for the pokemon 2000 game
Man. Eric's Star fox pitch not seeing anything from the higher up's hurts my soul. It would have been by far and away a better game than Zero was.
It really would've, but I think he "oversold" it. Once he started talking about the online stuff, it started to sound less like a STarfox game and more like he was trying to build an entire MMO. If I were him I'd have kept the online stuff as a footnote and focused more on what he kept sidelining as "Single player" to at least show how the developers could reasonably make the game. Pokemon only got away with adding crazy online stuff because they already made it first and then proved it could work to Nintendo, but for this...the online would've had to be a small thing built up based on sales... I can hear the higher ups saying "and where will we get the budget and man power to make all this?" Given the guy was a young artist...not a developer or director who oversees the effort it takes to make games.
Not saying it shouldn't have been made, but just saying I can see why it was probably shut down. I don't know if even today any group would make a game like that beyond some dedicated fans. It sounds too much like a "Get someone else to make it this way" idea.
God dammit Ken Penders. You ruined everything!
He’s a greasy bastard
Gotta be honest, that Majoras Mask segment just made it sound like Miyamoto and Aonuma were awful to work with.
Given what Aonuma has said about Zelda moderately recent, I'd believe it.
All these Japanese directors seem to act like Japan is the ONLY country on the planet. they forget how big a market the US is and really need to get their heads out of thier @sses for ONCE and give us the games we want, not the games they THINK we want cause they don't seem to think we exist....
@@riversan90 what did he say?
Miyamoto definitely seems like a bit of a primadonna, at least from everything I've heard over the years. He seems like a Hayao Miyazaki type. Highly idealistic and visionary, but is often his own worst enemy when he's not in charge
@@riversan90what did Aonuma say?
Forever devastated we still don't have another entry in the Pokémon Pinball series.
"And there might have been a whole series of RPGs if it wasn't for one man..."
This was far from the worst thing Ken Penders did.
As angry as I want to be at Penders for this...I'm also mad at SEGA for not doubling down and caring about thier characters. This isn't the first time (nor the last) where they let someone else handle thier ideas and then lost the rights to those ideas due to bad negotiations (they're the reason we'll never hear Hideki Naganuma's music in Sega games or Sonic rush again, and they don't own the rights to MOST of the Genesis music or even several variants of the themesongs). but instead of just taking the reigns and owning their product, Sonic is now a splintered shadow of what he is and I bet the only reason they keep using Sonic and the genesis characters exclusively is because their OWN franchise is a legal landmine. and we fans keep getting punished for it.
Penders makes me SO upset. I sometimes wish Sonic Team never had to deal with his overpossessiveness
What would've happened if we had a time machine and erased Penders from existence?
@@tlst94 I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
@@tlst94 Nah, just write better contracts. Penders isn't the originator of the IP. He only gets to claim credit for characters he actually wrote. Well.. IF the contract with which he was paid to write them specified that Sega owned them, then Penders would have been unable to pull that -----.
@@tlst94 Seems a bit extreme. Maybe just not hire the guy.
It really sucks Adept didnt get greenlit and just fizzled out. I can see it having solde decebtly well on the gamecube/wii era, but sell really well if it were released by itself on steam.
I could definitely see it being a cult classic that ppl would be praising decades later
the starfox concept was really good so sad it never seen the light of days
That Pokémon Pinball DS game sounded so good it’s a crime we didn’t get it. I can’t believe you guys interviewed one of the devs and then commissioned what it would look like
Big props

This has been my favorite channel for years, you all sparked my love for gaming trivia and as you've continued to grow so big and so in depth that love and passion you sparked in me has grown the same! Thank you all for inspiring my hobby and love for all aspects of the deeper sides of gaming!
I'm not a Sonic fan, but it's so sad that there was this unfinished cliffhanger all because another guy stamped his foot over some similar characters.
They couldn't just work out some money to throw his way, or get him a job co-creating with the sequel? Do we really have to live in a world where a franchise loved by millions has to kill off a whole adventure just because one guy felt slighted over characters he wrote for someone else's world?
Yeah that's so bullshit and I never even touched those games, nor am I a Sonic fan. Ken Penders is a huge dick.
Yeah but the game sucked don't worry
@@skorupigo5544Not true it was just half baked and too easy. Also (Penders)
Unfortunately, it seemed like it was a combination of things. It really is a mess though but it seems like ALL creative companies seem to only care about funding and profits and are doubling down on that. I'm still upset that the Switch is immensely popular despite stripping down everything that made Nintendo so affordable. The games are only marginally better than what could've been on the Wii U (BoTW was literally ON the Wii U), but alas... down went the e-shop and access to entire generations of games and ideas in favor of a glorified Gameboy advance so streamers could "make money" off of playing popular nintendo games.
Well, was he stomping his foot, or was he plagiarized and never compensated? I'd say it was on SEGA
I'm very thankful for this mega video. I was a huge fan of Sonic Chronicles and I totally missed the video of lost Sonic games. I need to go back and watch that video. I always wondered what happened between Bioware and Sega, turns out Ken Penders is to blame.
Yeah.....and what's worse, he STILL believes he's owed royalties for this. It's just about money to him. I did talk to him a bit to get his side of the story, and managed to convince him that what he did kind of overstepped his view on things, but he lamented he can't change what happened and can only move forward. Though we both shared frustration that Sega didn't seem to care about the Sonic lore either as Ken DID fill in the blanks for Knuckles' backstory and SEga....tried to pretend that plot of Knuckles being the last of his people was just for that one game and future games would follow a different script for him to read. (Now you're a treasure hunter, now you're a military commando). It's frustrating...and mostly Iizuka's fault in the long run.
Ken Penders is just a more successful version of Chris-chan lol
Those old web games being unavailable makes my heart ache 😭
Adept sounded so cool, horrible that they didn’t green light it. Especially given that they refused to look at portal for the context of the pitch.
I wish someone would make a spiritual successor
Tbh if you need someone to play another game to get your pitch you could've done more to get your idea across
@@theghostcreator776 why? it wasn't a generic idea (hey play this Zelda game so you know what I want) it was Portal, a unique game with unique and concrete mechanics. Besides, Nintendo has a very -japanese- hermetic culture, it was Nintendo's fault obviously. They love "innovation" unless it's really innovation.
@@alulim4968 "play this other game so you understand the game" isn't a good pitch. You don't have to play Fire Emblem to understand Mario + Rabbids, and you don't need to play Final Fantasy to understand Mario RPG.
The worst thing you can do when pitching something is to make it LOOK complicated or hard to understand.
@@theghostcreator776
Exactly! you don't need to play FE to understand M&R, but for Adept it was understandable that if play Portal, then you could understand how Adept would adapt that gameplay to his particular idea.
Thank you for understand my point: FE is not equal to Adept.
Holy Koizumi is a real genius. Put that man back on the Zelda team. Or let him make his own game. My god.
I mean he makes Mario games now so he's set, but I would love another Zelda game from him.
You guys are unironically the best gaming journalists
Yeah I would say so, and to think it just started as a basic gaming trivia facts channel.
That pitch for a StarFox game on Wii U sounds so much better and coherent than what we got with StarFox Zero. And Miyamoto really pushed for the two screen views which ultimately made the gameplay more confusing and eye straining. Having to use the Wii U gamepad to handle the ships buttons and handle parallel tasks while playing feels like a much better idea.
Yeah, I do think when he started talking about the "online stuff" though that may have killed it. The idea of an expanded space system was great and rebuilding the lylat system, but the multiplayer sounded like a headache to build and set up, especially random attacks and including an online interactive sense that would've made the game feel like an MMO. I think if he kept the pitch simple and just focused on what reasonably could be done within a decent budget, then if popular enough he could add those extra online elements, but the important thing wtih marketing is to think of the target audience, young kids and parents. Still, I do like the idea of making your custom pilot akin to Metroid Federation where you create your own bounty hunter. The idea is there, but the pitch made it sound like a glorified fan idea than something realistic.
Tbh it sounds so much more direction less than zero lmao
@@theghostcreator776 starfox zero is one of the worst games i have played
@@ahmajambe3879 irrelevant
@theghostcreator776 it is, because when i can't control properly the arwing or when I'm busting my eyes to play because relying on two different views to shoot and avoid enemies is not intuitive. And all of that in a boring retelling of Starfox 64. It becomes a game that is the most directionless mess i have played.
Dude, how could Retro say no to StarFox Armada?? That sounded so awesome! I would have played the crap out of that!
28:41 ohmigosh, who wrote that, Chris Chan after fusing Sonic with a Neptunia character?! 😂
You can feel the saltiness in that last segment.
....Star Fox Armada sounds interesting...of course it never happened.
Taking a well-deserved victory lap after another year of amazing investigative work!
This video is really infuriating as to how just one or two people can stop great games from being made.
There's an opportunity cost associated with that. If Adept was made, then Retro Studios wouldn't have returned to DK Country and made some of the best platformers out there. Ideally, a pitch from a developer should be convincing enough to make the higher ups excited at the thought of playing a full game based on it.
Ok, I missed the Star Fox Armada video-- that game sounds so cool! It's a real shame Armada never got made.
3 days later and youtube finally shows me this video on main page, and I'm subbed to the channel....
Has a Lapras that can swim and transport you across the water. Instead freezes the water so you can walk across. Thanks, Lapras.
25:50 "As of this video's publication, Retro Studios hasn't released a single game since Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze back in 2014"
I mean, I would count the Metroid Prime remake, as it is a whole remake of the assets in the game, including world geometry, enemies, textures, effects, items, etc. It also backports previous control schemes while adding dual stick controls for the first time.
I know it still uses the same logic of the previous releases, but I still consider it relevant as it's not just a port like Tropical Freeze for the Switch
As one of the few people that liked Starfox Zero, I 100% would’ve preferred Starfox Armada over it.
It was a nice revival, but I think we were so set on the opening cinmatic setting the stage that the game itself kind of felt like it wasn't finished. I agree it was awesome to see a modernized Starfox 64, but it really was just Starfox 64 again...again.... It's sad cause it genuinely makes me wonder if Starfox's popularity really came from the fact that it was the first 3D arcade shooter of it's style and the fact that you're playing as flying furry animals was the icing. Even Rare's former developers are frustrated cause they want to do so much with it but Nintendo owns Starfox himself and they keep saying "No".
I’m actually sad that that Star Fox pitch got shut down
“Isn’t ’Koizumi’ a really fast fish?” - Dan Avidan
A Star Fox game where you can create your own character sounds really cool
Given that animation promoting Starfox Zero, it feels like it should've been the direction the series went. especially in Command where instead of butchering Fox's story, just let us be the avatar.
My fave thing about the cancelled Boo/Blob game is how there is concept art of a Boo that is shaped like the Star of David, who weilds a menorah-shaped scepter.
If the game wasnt cancelled, I garauntee you 100% that the internal fule name for that concept art would've called him a "Joo" 😂😂😂
Ha ha timestamp please
Sorry lmao forgot to list it
19:50
@ShadowRaptor1O1 that's definitely an interesting Boo, probably would have good fighting abilities with the menorah and being able to set things on fire.
That Adept game sounds like it would've been really good. I wish someone would make a successor.
Bro one day you made a video about game facts that you learned from other people because you thought they were interesting, now you got a whole Channel THAT is the ONE finds the game facts. Glow up! And well done, good for yall.
Thank you guys for your hard work and investigative research!
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you! So many great memories of gaming its awesome to imagine what could have been.
Damn that Sonic Chronicles 2 stuff sounds awesome, shame that comic creator got defensive about his characters.
Yeah...his FAN characters too. Though he admitted the story was based on his own take on his family history (as Sega never gave him direction for Knuckles' story), it kind of reinforces how big a mess the whole thing really was. Especially since the other show and comic producers never gave Sega trouble, but then...Sega likes to pretend none of the side media (and the 90s in general) ever happened given how they keep butchering Classic Sonic.
Wow! Very well put. I love your videos but your right my busy schedule I can’t watch them all. Thank you for such great content
Does anyone else get the sense that Majora’s Mask was basically a giant mutiny from beginning to end?
These new discoveries are incredible and very valuable, keep up the good work!
Good lord the amount of work that went into this video. Well done!

Yeah, Zora Link is modeled after Adult Link so we technically got a way cooler version.
Wasnt watching for a long time but your channel did amazing, the archive type vidéo are perfect
quite a list of accomplishments - seriously gaming historians! 🏆
The Ken Penders thing never fails to make me mad
The crucified Boo and the evil Magen David is a lot. Probably for the best that one didn't see the light of day.
As a small game develepor myself.. its actually insane that the creators of the zelda game did not even test the game from start to finish... knowing back in the time... the catridge was definite.
With a year to make a game of that caliber (and this was BEFORE engines like Unity made things easier), I'm not surprised. It still takes me a few days casually to play the game, let alone 100% it. It's kind of a miracle the game worked as well as it did, let alone being one of the greatest Zelda games ever made.
Thank you so much for all videos you made. You are one of my absolutely best youtubers ever. :)

This commentary is hilarious
"She wasn't Sonic's sister, she was a sexy relative." 😂😂😂😂😂
very nice!
That Starfox concept sounds insanely good! I don’t like the motion control gimmick but the idea of putting bounties on other players would be super interesting!
"Second, Sister Sonic wasn't Sonic's sister, she was a sexy relative" was not a sentence I was expecting to hear today... or ever.
Ken Penders strikes again!
Super interesting. Would have loved to see these unfinished retro projects.
"Sister Sonic isn't a cute character like Mail. She's a more mature girl. Expect her to have a flirtatious and sexy charm." - Did they not even play Popful Mail? She's an anime elf bounty hunter in a very skimpy outfit and had plenty of flirty and sexy charm, especially in the Sega CD version with its FMV cutscenes.

All these. Game discovery are awesome
Try and tell me Sister Sonic isn't Sonic's Drag persona 💅🏼
A plague and a pox on Ken Penders. I loved Dark Brotherhood. I literally had to replace my DS’s screen protector because I used Tornado kick so much it formed a permanent imprint.
I never realized how much I need Star Fox Armada in my life. I'll never be complete
He had to pull at least one all nighter 😂
At least they did use super sonic as a bullet in Sonic frontiers, such a cool coincidence
Ehm.. The Internet Archive gives me an error when I click the link to find Pokémon 2000's raw assets.. Did you post an incorrect link or was it taken down somehow?
