The video on gaming collecting is extremely cute in a naive way, made definitely before Covid so the scene was nowhere nearly as broken or inaccessible as now. Still lots of advice in it I agree strongly with so can't be to harsh on it. Very much appreciate the view that games are meant to be enjoyed and played, I've got an insane amount of games in my collection and perhaps only a handful I never had a desire to play eventually. Also the very early view of gaming grading as something other than a scam really takes me back, that along with stuff like Chibi Robo not costing well into the triple digits.

So like Scott says here, everything else I buy these days, is just overflow. I may watch a video on youtube saying "10 hidden gems on PS2 you NEED to check out" and one of them may interest me so I go and buy it. And while it's always a great thing to expand your horizons and discover something new that may become your new favorite game, it is still overflow. I'm a big fan of the advice to just go and buy the console of the games you find interesting and buy 3 games. Play those games for a while without collecting, just as you would if it was the console of the time. Then decide if you want more or not. Then buy each one you want to play next as you play them. Forget about collecting to completion. Just play. Basically I favor being a gamer vs a collector. But If you want to be a collector I find it totally cool. Go ahead, because you all will hopefully take care of the games better than if there wasn't a market and all the games ended up in a dump somewhere.
