  • Musicians when searching a new instrument (violin, viola, cello and even doublebass) judge by yes and no. But they don't know that only few instruments can be chosen by focusing on their sound character.
The main reason is that the technical properties of most bowed instruments is not working how it should work (vibrate) and therefore they have to focus too much energy to compensate these mistakes; the result is that they focus on those mistakes instead of choosing a great instrument.
Here I explain you what it takes and what it is all about.
And exactly these three key factors are responsible that makers and musicians are convinced that every instrument has it´s own mystery sound which you can not change.
In reality what you can not change is the model or the character of the instrument.
The technical part should be perfect to be able to compare one instrument to each other.
To obtain these factors in perfect working constellation to each other it takes mastery and a lot of time. And this no-one can see
But you can hear and that is why my instrument cost that much!!!!
If you are ready for a great instrument or you want me to adjust your instrument and you are able to pay my time to obtain the best out of every instrument send me an eMail to edgar@eruss.it
Meanwhile all the best from Cremona

You many excellent points Edgar, playing the violin is journey and a quest, not a simple destination.
Most significan point (I think) is the cooperative PARTNERSHIP between the violin and the player.
In my case, the variability in sound is usually due to changes in my ability to play well (usually the bowing hand) .
If my bowing hand is too far off the mark, it can pull notes out of tune, which makes me question my left hand as well.
Sometimes I can power throught that and get it together, but other times I need to just clean the violin, wipe off the bow and put it away until later when I can try again.

Don't need luck when you go to Sound of Cremona and their team of maniacs. Now I can stop worrying about the instrument and concentrate on improving my ability as a musician. Thank you ❤

Of all your superb and excellent videos, this one stands out as the most educational, the most elucidating regarding what can't be seen, the most revealing as to the real craft of the sainted souls who take up this vocation. Thank you. Probably because it the latest, but this one was a doozie!! Sean

Except for some subtle differences in wood grain, and the color, they all look the same to me.

Does anyone know if all the Becker Luthiers here (I’m by Chicago) are related? I was told recently to take one of my violins for restoration to one of them.
