      @@JakeTechReviews I received mine today from Amazon and already installed it. Front camera was easy, just removed the "panic grip" trim on the passenger side and ran the power cable to my aux input power port. Rear camera was so light, I was able to just use the supplied 3M tape to hold it to the liner , put the attached cable under the liner till I got to the rear door seal and just followed that around to the drivers' side trim. All in all, it took less than 20 minutes to install. Glad it has a power button because all my power ports are hot even when the key is not used and doors are open. You can always just pick up a decent 3m sticky tape from somewhere like Walmart etc or find some on Amazon. I normally buy 3m tape that's rated much higher than I actually need since then I know it will be tough and durable. Like if I have something that is 1 pound, I will get a 3m that is rated for 15 lbs. Could even do the 3m velcro stuff, that's actually something I might do so if I want to remove it completely for whatever reason then attach again..

    This dash cam is both amazing, and utterly frustrating at the same time. The worst part being the wifi having to be connected to access it and no blue tooth etc. It's kind of grainy when zooming in and I'm going to do some test but I'm pretty sure it doesn't produce true 4k quality.

    I chose your video on "how to" because I can understand you, Although at the same time I could not understand you. I am not technology smart. That's an understatement. I need to to know what does 1080 vs 2160 mean. If your video was to show us "HOW" I think you need to get more into each option.

    • @JakeTechReviews
      @JakeTechReviews  2 года назад +1

      Going into depth could potentially confuse a few. Most understand the difference between them but to try and explain simply. 1080p is standard high definition, it was the tv standard for several years when HD came out. 2160 would be the 4k standard or Ultra high definition. It relates to how many pixels are on the screen.
      Some people may know it better as HD and 4k since that is how they market televisions etc. HD=1080p 4k=2160p. There is a wiki that explains a bit more in detail and better than I could without copy and paste but I hope that helps you some? I can link a wiki if you would like to read some on it. Just think of it as the higher the number then the more clear the picture will be. 4k has become a major standard for when people shop for video products.

    Do you think it's a valid concern that the rear camera could have visibility issues if installed on the outside of the car and makes contact with the elements (dirt/rain/snow) on the lens? Or is the rear camera in danger of being damaged if I took my car through a gas station car wash?
    My RedTiger dash is due to arrive later this week (ordered after being convinced by your review) and I'm undecided on interior or exterior rear cam install. One con for me right now of installing inside is that my rear window fogs up easily and has no rear wiper; the defrosting capability at the top of the window seems to have lost its original strength too. If I do outside I could position it slightly hidden above the license plate but not sure if I will install by adhesive or screws.

    • @JakeTechReviews
      @JakeTechReviews  2 года назад +4

      I know dirt and rain do not affect it, been through a ton of rain. We get a ton of rain here in Washington and it's been raining nonstop here. For ice and snow I cannot say but from what I have heard and seen it should not affect unless extremely cold. There can be visibility blocked some if it gets covered with snow, rain, dirt. I know if the wind blows it right then I can see reduced but still can see just like any type of lens that gets dirty or wet.

      I would have to look if it had some sort of zoom option but not sure if I have seen anything like that. You can adjust it though, also place it higher on the windshield, angle it upward a little bit. Personally, I am not using it for visual-type videos and only to capture if anything happens. I get a glare with any of the dash cams I use if the sun is super bright and facing the windshield, I was going to get a dash mat to reduce it since I keep my dash pretty shiny which does not help.

    Sorry to disappoint you, but for a 4k dashcam, the image looks really poor with low amount of details. I would guess that it has no real 4k image sensor and the video is upscaled from lower resolution. Rear camera is also of low quality, to be honest. If I compare it to e.g. VIOFO 129 Pro, Vantrue x4s or Nextbase GW622, which all have a real 4k image sensor (I had all three of them and sticked to the Vantrue), they deliver much sharper and more detailed image quality. @@JakeTechReviews RedTiger seems to upscale resolution, I can not explain the poor quality otherwise. Most oft the "real" 4k cameras are surely a bit more expensive (Nextbase is overpriced in terms of image quality, but has a lot of other nice features), but I also wanted to point out that good cameras with 2k resolution (i.e. Viofo 129 Plus, 70 Mai Pro, Garmin 57, Vantrue...) cost around the same as the RedTiger, but with much better image quality.
      You can not even read any license plates in your video footage, and the rear camera is just blurry. I'm owning a Viofo 119 V3 for 2 years now, it costs around 120$ and has really good image quality. Addiationally, I bought a Vantrue x4s Dual, which is again a tad sharper and delivers more details, but costs around 220$. Another question is support. Any firmware updates available in the future from RedTiger? They don't even seem to have a homepage.
      Again, I don't wat to argue with you - if the quality is satisfyfing for you, then it's fine. But I don't share the exuberance about the RedTiger image quality, because there are plenty of better camers for about the same price or just a small amount of extra costs.

      @@mustanggt8503 Fair enough, I just gave this one to someone who wanted it and I am using a Jomise right now that was sent over to me. I plan to try some of the nicer ones eventually but I just havent wanted to spend those prices yet. The Redtiger was the first nicer one I purchased so I didnt have much to compare to except the cheap garbage ones I tried.

      For some reason I didnt get an alert for this comment. I will have to look at the settings again but I know you have to setup the wifi on the dash cam. Is there a step your having an issue with? I can try and do a video on just that in the next couple of days.

    Is it easy to save a video if you see something you want to save?

    • @JakeTechReviews
      @JakeTechReviews  2 года назад

      yup, you just click the lock button on the side of it and it will save that clip on the SD card and not overwrite it.

  • @zevrichards1200
    @zevrichards1200 2 года назад

    Have you experienced the SD card getting filled because the loop feature doesn't work? I've read reviews that say this is a problem. I want to buy this but would prefer something you can set and forget. Also what can you say about the G-sensor mode? Too sensitive? Not sensitive enough? Does it record only 1 minute videos after a collision detection? Can it record for longer?

    • @JakeTechReviews
      @JakeTechReviews  2 года назад +1

      it is going to be filled even with loops, I did not notice any issues with it, it fills up and then starts replacing the oldest clips unless locked. I used a 256gb card though and I format my cards in every device quite often so I rarely ever fill them as well. I never used the G-sensor since I never hard wired mine. For the collision it should record for the duration you have set and then lock the file, I always have my dash cams recording 3 minute clips.

    Does this cam require to be on WIFI to record? I have a camera that’s connected to my radar but it ONLY records if I am on wifi and I also can’t exit the app because it won’t record, so frustrating when trying to use other apps while on the road such as Spotify etc.

    • @JakeTechReviews
      @JakeTechReviews  Год назад +1

      no, the wifi is only needed if you want to use the app to download footage, it just records normally to a card.

      I would test it, use one setting and then maybe bump your car hard and see what seems to work better.

    • @JakeTechReviews
      @JakeTechReviews  2 года назад

      I believe it does if you drop to 1080p but there are no settings to manually change the FPS. I would have to do a couple test recordings when I have time then check what the fps is.

    Will hardwiring it damage/drain my battery ?

    • @JakeTechReviews
      @JakeTechReviews  2 года назад +1

      It will not damage it, it will do a slight drain but would take quite a while to drain the battery enough to not start. I would have to find the info again but I believe it uses roughly 2000mah of power a day and a car battery has an average of 80,000mah depending on the battery.
