Hi Everybody! Here is my other video that I recommend watching to fully understand How the Hardwire Kit Works and is connected ruclips.net/video/9Pq3UKQNrcU/видео.html
Hi dear AutoFun I am from Australia and I have Toyota Camry hybrid 2013 and I believe there is no fuse box in the cabin , I believe two fuse boxes in the engine bay , if you are familiar with this . How can I route wires from engine bay fuse box to the cabin?
@@MShaafi Hi SHAAFI MEDIA! ah if there is not fuse box inside the cabin, then the installer will have to run the cable thru the car's firewall, some installers will actually drill a hole right thru it, I usually find an existing hole and route the cable thru there. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Thanks for discussing the possible interference with an airbag deployment. The general public is not knowledgeable about the design, packaging and deployment of side curtain airbags. As a retired airbag design engineer, I would hate to see a carefully designed, tested and validated supplemental restraint product not work properly because a car owner unintentionally degraded the deployment path or timing. Or injure themself in the process of making a modification.
I'm having a hard time seeing how a small wire can interfere with the airbag? The airbag being inflated happens which such a force that the cable simply would snap or being pulled with the airbag. Has this ever been tested?
@@Gryph0508lol, right? Or the airbag will yank the cable as it inflates and that cable will yank the dashcam, either of which ending up connecting with your face or body.
Your videos are by far the best hardwire install guides on YT. No wasted time, everything explained clearly and concisely, and different possibilities and options are discussed. Thank you!
Your mustache is on point😂 now regarding the video, this has been the best and most instructive and informational video I’ve seen. I never knew, nor took into consideration possible interference of the airbag. You have given me much to think about. I will watch your other video to see other ways to wire the dash cam thank you.
This is by far the best explained instruction video. Explains the importance of putting fuse tap in the right way. Have seen other videos where they put one tap one way and the other in opposite directions, making one of the connections direct live and bypassing the fuse. Thanks
This is one of the most thorough tutorials I've seen on RUclips, airbag and also the direction of the fuse. Also, I approve of the very chingon bigote😎
All I can say here, is that you do a darn good job on these videos! I first watched because I bought a Rove R3 Dash Camera and a hard-wiring kit, and wanted to know how best to install it. Your videos were a big help! Unlike another video I watched, you DID mention the power polarity when re-inserting the fuses. If polarity isn't observed, the dash cam may work but the circuit you plugged into may not! Lol. Thanks again.
Dude, you honestly saved me! I’ve been trying to hardwire my new dashcam to my 2020 Corolla Hybrid for 3 weeks and bought so much stuff and kept getting it wrong! I followed everything you showed me exactly and not only did I manage to do it myself with no experience, I got the parking mode on my dashcam working and got the cable behind the airbag pillar! I cannot thank you enough!!
@@rkhunt007 Ah yes it's possible which is why I recommend hardwire kits with a low voltage cut off to avoid draining the battery (some also let you adjust at what point they will turn off). Here is my other video ruclips.net/video/Yky9_tTvwMc/видео.html where I explain this in more detail. Now how long it takes for the battery to get to a specific voltage varies depending on the car's battery, size, age, health condition, SOC and any parasitic draw from other items on the vehicle that use power when the car is off. This is specially common on newer vehicles. For example I have an older Jeep that can sits for months a time with little to no battery draw, then I have a newer car that will almost completely drain my battery in a few weeks if the car is not used (mind you that car does not have any aftermarket devices connected to it). Here is the battery tester I use ruclips.net/video/kCNrfa8RUKU/видео.html if you want to test your battery for capacity and health, it can also perform a parasitic draw test if needed. Cheers!
This is a brilliant tutorial! Your instructions are very concise and easy to follow. You also answered the questions I was thinking with regards to the curtain air bag. I may end up doing the same installation process, when I buy a dashcam, for my Camry. I already have a set of the trim removal tools. They're worth every cent. (Not that they cost much anyway.) Thank you for making this video. :-)
Thank you. This makes me happy to see someone (like myself) that pays attention to all the details like airbag, fuse-tap power orientation and which fuses are "best"... so many misleading videos on YT - make me shake my head.
Ok I'm going to have to go back into the a pillars and redo the wiring then. When I installed my wires I just fed it through the crevice with a tool and you said it is over the airbag. I dont trust it now lol so I want to redo it proper. I had to buy s different hardwire kit for my GKU m11 as the one I bought only supported ACC and ground so I couldnt enable parking monitor mode. Once that new kit arrives Friday, I'll redo the GPS and the power to the cam like you suggested.
Hi Jahalang82! yeah definitely worth it to use a hardwire that enables parking mode, you never know what could happen when the car is parked and your away from it. Cheers!
wonder if there is enough wire to run the cable instead of going up and across, go down and across (avoiding the side curtain airbag altogether) and go under the interior plastics at the bottom of the doors and then up through the panel beside the rear seat and then to the camera, thoughts?
Hi Mike! yes that is a good idea on most dash cams there is enough length to route the cable in a different way avoiding the air bag all together. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Thanks very much for the great video and explanation, the best I’ve seen yet! I bought my dash cam in June and it’s still in the wrapper and box as I’ve been very reluctant to go into the fusebox. Your video made it appear “simple”. Still reluctant but will give it a go! Absolutely brilliant!!!
Excellent video! I really appreciate the breakdown for this specific car model. 6:01 I will say to note, in general, ground should always be the last wire you connect. Correct me if I've overlooked anything, but the reason you connect ground last when jumpstarting is because there's a micro spark when you close the connection, and you would rather have that spark happen on your wide ground cable vs small delicate voltage connection.
Thank you Red! Ah regarding the order of the connections, you have a good point. I'm not a EE but on house mains, grounded appliances have a grounding pin on their plug that is designed to make contact before Neutral or L. Now on a car, jump starting, the reason we connect the positive first is that if the negative sides are connected first, and the car chassis is bumped with the positive clamp you can create a short. By connecting positive sides first, even if the ground clips touch the body of the car nothing will happen since the car chassis it's self ground. But yeah the order of the connections really just depends on the application (and yep even if connecting negative last, there is a chance for sparks as the connection is made, now this can be an issue when jump starting the battery naturally expels gases that are combustible, which is the reason some smart jump starters or battery maintainers will only deliver power after detecting both clamps are connected eliminating the risk of a spark (and partially the reason we connected negative to the car's body not to the actual negative terminal on the battery). Cheers!
Thanks Sanj! Ah regarding the BATT wire, most dash cams that require a 3 lead hardwire kit will usually need all 3 wires to be connected in order for the kit to work correctly. Most dash cam also will let you turn off park monitor if you don't need it. And here is my hardwire kit video ruclips.net/video/Yky9_tTvwMc/видео.html showing the different types of hardwire kits available for dash cams. Hope this helps, Cheers!
It's a great video, full of information. Thank you. Do you have details for the next step (or if you have a video) about connecting the hard wire of the rear camera to the front one?
You're welcome Loai and thank you! Ah the rear camera does not require additional power, it is powered by the main dash cam at front. And here is my video on how I route the rear camera cable ruclips.net/video/IYRavaIBmSY/видео.html Cheers!
Thanks for a great video! I was hesitant on doing this myself however after watching a few of your videos it turned out to be far easier than I expected. Thank you.
Excellent video. I've just installed a dash cam on a VW Golf, and the method is almost identical (the Golf fuse box doesn't have a cover in RHD format, so is a little easier). And yes, i did tuck the cable behind the airbag!
You make it look kind of easy but it doesn’t really look easy for me, lol! I guess I’ll just use the usb cord for my Garmin 67w dash cam and know it only works while the car is on. Excellent video! Thank you.
@@AlexAutoFun Do you mean to suggest that if we want to use parking mode with a dash cam we should NOT use the OBDII connection method? Hard-wire only? I just finished watching your OBDII video and didn't get that impression. Please let me know. Thank you for your exceptional videos.
Hi Julia! The OBD2 adapter will let you monitor the car while parked, however it will not enable true parking mode. Here is my video where I explain this in more detail ruclips.net/video/YEklm9V6xYE/видео.html Cheers!@@juliava605
Thank you Peter! Ah yes here is my video ruclips.net/video/wlj9aa6L_Wg/видео.html showing how I install a two channel dash cam with either the rear camera on the inside of the car (the easiest way in my opinion) or the outside of the car (the longer way) Cheers!
Thank you for this wonderful video. Is it then right to say that its very very unlikely that airbag capabilities will be affected with dashcam wire over it? I don’t want to mess around opening A pillar and try put wires too deep inside so just want to do simple installation over airbags may be
You're welcome camanv! Ah as explained in the video, there are many unknowns as far what happens when a cable is placed over an air bag, therefore I personally avoid running cables over it. However here are two solutions that avoid the air bag issue all together ruclips.net/video/YEklm9V6xYE/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/P0VapL70m7c/видео.html And here is my best position to install a dash cam video ruclips.net/video/F7OzM2i7ErE/видео.html Cheers!
Hi, can I just connect only the red cable (accessory) and not the yellow batt cable? or do i have to connect all 3 cables? thank you i love your channel.
Thanks Renee! Ah most dash cams that require a 3 lead hardwire kit will usually need all 3 wires to be connected in order for the dash cam to work correctly. What I recommend when someone does not need park monitoring, is just to turn it off in the settings menu (most dash cams will let you turn off this feature). And here is follow up video showing the hardwire process in mode detail ruclips.net/video/K2iKXj82354/видео.html Cheers!
I am dumb and was trying to get the cable all the way to the under the hood fuse box, then wasting half and hour finding an opening to get cable inside car... This helped and saved me a lot of time, effort, and, time and effort!
Such a great and instructive video! It touches everything that should be known for such installations. One question popped up when I watched the video: you used one of the empty fuse slots for the hardwire connection. Normally, the diagram shows how much amp that particular slot supports but there is no info regarding the empty slots on the diagram. Did you presume that the lowest would be 5A, or take a blind shot since most dashcams draw less than 5A overall? Overloading might be an issue, that is why I wanted to ask that. Best regards!
Thank you Ozan! Ah good question, installers can use the cars service manual and the wiring schematics to determine if the internal wiring and current load on the circuit to be tapped can sustain an additional load. And here is my follow up video where I cover how I find ACC and BATT on any car ruclips.net/video/K2iKXj82354/видео.html Cheers!
2:46 You bring up a very valid point about the possibility of the airbag deploying while pulling off the cover. You mentioned the battery being disconnected but the airbags still having power for some time afterwards. Would an additional safety step of pulling the fuse for the airbag system also help minimize this from happening?
Hi H! Ah I'm not sure if it would, usually airbag systems are design be able to deploy in extreme cases (where vehicle is in the process of being destroyed and battery power is lost during a crash) So I would imagine that there could still be an active system even if a fuse is pulled. But I think it would also vary from vehicle to vehicle depending on how it was designed. Cheers!
Wow, you have some great videos! I'm in the process of searching for a good dash cam with a rear camera as well as motion sensor for parking, but then I realized I wouldn't be able to install it myself because it has to be hard wired. Can any auto shop install these cameras, or maybe the dealership where I bought the car? Thank you for all the detailed information, I feel like I can actually have a more intelligent conversation, even if I'm afraid to install it myself.
Thank you T L! Ah yes here are a couple choices with motion detection, this one is radar based ruclips.net/video/vUEsIYEBVck/видео.html and these ones are vision based ruclips.net/video/EeCSx35mkPY/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/lwoSbiwjSik/видео.html Regarding installation, some shops that install tint, radios and radars usually also install dash cams. There are also dedicated dash cam installers too. So I would recommend getting a couple quotes from several places to check on pricing but also to check if they are experienced on it (and ideally licensed and insured). Cheers!
@AlexAutoFun thank you for the information, Alex. I'm actually looking at the VIOFO 139A Pro, but I will take a look at the Wolfbox G890 you posted above.
Saying this is a great video and mustache is an understatement. Does disconnecting the battery disable the airbags from activating, just in case? Is it recommended to run the fusebox cabling from the passenger side instead?
Thank you Terrence! Ah yes disconnecting should disable the battery (just keep in mind Air bag systems are designed to function for a period of time even after power loss such as an accident where the battery may be damaged, they usually retain some power reserve for a bit before draining) Regarding running the cable up the A Pillar, I done it from either side, it normally just seems to be a preference on the installer (and in the case of a hardwire kit on the location of the fuse box, sometimes they are in the passenger side). For my cases, if I have multiple cables I try to spread them out so they fit in the trim, for example I would run power and rear camera extension on side and the GPS cable antenna (if present) on the passenger side. Hope this helps, Cheers!
I really enjoy your install videos, very informative and very professional. Do you have experience with dash cam installs on 2023 C8's? I would appreciate your expert advise on what type of dash cam is best for that car model and any install advise? Thank you
Thank you Ted! Ah I haven't done an install on a C8 yet but most installs for the most part are very similar (same techniques and challenges). Regarding a good dash cam for the C8, there are some good options out there. Just depends on what you are looking for in a dash cam. I run different ones on my cars so what I usually tell people looking for the right dash cam for them is to start by picking the style of dash cam (Mirror or classic stick). Then how many cameras does it need to have (1, 2 or 3). Now that you have narrowed your selections, consider how much you want to spend on one, that will narrow your choices even further. Then consider any special features you are looking for such as 360° video, Side Camera, Wi-Fi, Parking monitor without hardwire, cloud support, High Frame Rate. Finally you would want to compare video quality. I have several dashcam reviews on my channel under the playlist "dashcams" if you like to compare them. Cheers!
Alex. May I ask some questions I did not find answered in your video about the features of the Red Tiger F7N.1 Does it have stabilization. 2 What are the viewing angles for front and rear cameras.3 Can it record 30 and 60 frames per second.4 How well can the microphone record someone talking at the front windows partially open, say 3 inches from the top in case you are stopped by the police. 5 Have you compared the quality of the 2 cameras to a Blackvue DR900x or other high end dash cam. 6 can it upload a video stream to a cloud based service. 7. Can you take the camera off the window but keep power on so you can take videos from you hand? Thanks Lloyd
Hi Lloyd! ah typically dash cams do not have true stabilization (a few claim they have it use software to stabilize the picture which can in some cases decrease the resolution) But I think you knew what project I was working on next! lol here is the newest released video that should answer most of the other questions ruclips.net/video/K7qURDfoR7c/видео.html For high frame rate I would recommend this one ruclips.net/video/FukYO3I8D1Y/видео.html and for cloud storage I would recommend this one ruclips.net/video/BAEH4f2ulEs/видео.html Hope this helps and cheers!
I did this on my 16 Camry Hybrid and it works. Downside with running directly to the fusebox is when I used the Emergency Brake I would pull the wire and my shoe would grab the fuse and pull it out. I currently have it disconnected because after repeating this a couple times. It just wasn't working. Besides, the fuse controlled my drivers window and it would take 2 days for the system to reset every time I pulled the freaking fuse. Looking for alternative way I can connect it near the fuse box, but directly to the fuse box I found out is just a bad idea. Now I have the fuse panel cover back on, and everything works, except my dash cam of course.
Hi Saint Kenny! Ah you bring up some very good points. One is that installers have to check for when routing cables making sure they are fully secured and out of the way of moving parts to avoid pinching the wires or affecting the car operation (such as pedals or E-brake). And yep to your other point, the installer also has to be very careful selecting which circuit to tap as tapping the incorrect one can detrimental effects on the car (and safety!) I cover that on my follow up video here ruclips.net/video/K2iKXj82354/видео.html Cheers!
Best explanation. I’m going to get a battery pack for the parking mode and plan on installing it at the trunk, plug into a cigarette lighter socket at the back. I’m wondering if I can just route the wires along the edge of the headliner and not run into any airbags cause mine has airbags at all three pillars. 😅
Thanks Species 5618! yeah definitely more challenging on newer cars now that there are air bags everywhere (which is good for safety and a slight hassle for us installers LOL) Cheers!
I didnt know about the airbag issue, but accidentaly bipased that problem by routing the cable next to the windshield, tucked it into the plastic part of the A pillar thats next to the windshield, and went accros the bottom (instead of the top) of the A pillar, next to the dashboard (nowhere to tuck the cable in here tho)
Hello, I watched your video to help me wire my hardwire kit for 70main Omni and it helped me a lot. I was wondering if i can add a switch to turn while im at home
Hi P! Ah if you are trying to access your camera when are away from it nope, Wifi enabled dash cams do not let you access them while your away from the car. What you are looking for is a Cloud connected dash cam like this one ruclips.net/video/EBLvq2X2SwQ/видео.html or this one ruclips.net/video/BAEH4f2ulEs/видео.html (live video, tracking, notifications to your phone etc.) Now some 70mai dash cams do have cloud functionality with a special hardwire kit however it is limited to areas in Europe and Asia. Unfortunately USA is not on the list of supported countries yet. Cheers!
@@pinggoyadventures5010 Ah yes some installers will do that if requested by the customer. The other option for when someone does not need park monitoring, is just to turn it off in the settings menu (most dash cams will let you turn off this feature). Cheers!
Very informative and fast. Just one question what if I only want to run my camera while my ignition is on? Do I need to plug in cigarette lighter fuse only?
Hi Harpinder! Most dash cams that require a 3 lead hardwire kit will usually need all 3 wires to be connected in order for the dash cam to work correctly. What I recommend when someone does not need park monitoring, is just to turn it off in the settings menu (most dash cams will let you turn off this feature) which will allow the dash to only run when the car is on. Cheers!
I am looking to get my dashcam installed I'll be sure to make sure whoever does it makes sure to install it in such a way its doesn't interfere with the safety systems so thanks never really thought of this
You are a boss. I have been trying to figure out what i have been doing wrong. and now i know that i also need a low profile cap for the dashcam cable. At his point i had high profile fuses which i tried to fit into the low profile (exact same car fuse) fuse you have in your car. Now the only thing for me is. I dont have parking cables with low profiles. What should i do?
Thank you Shahzad! Ah yes here is my video on how deal with different fuse sizes on a hardwire kit before installation ruclips.net/video/Qzw9yUYN7zo/видео.html Cheers!
Thanks so much! Very informative. I do have two questions: 1. Where do you get the small white pliers to pull the fuse out of the fuse box? Does the Corolla come with them? 2. Do you have a video that shows how to install the rear dash cam as well? Thanks!
You're welcome ismokeguam1! ah yes the white fuse puller came in this kit ruclips.net/video/9Pq3UKQNrcU/видео.html however it doesn't last long, I almost consider plastic fuse pullers disposable, small needle pliers last longer. Here is also the video showing the installation of the rear camera ruclips.net/video/44WXN8MI66o/видео.html Cheers bud!
Thank you for the vid. Will help me a lot. Could you also do a video on how to: properly wire a rear camera for the Wolfbox or similar mirror dash cam. On a 8th gen Civic Seden. Thanks 🙏
You're welcome Talha! ah yes here is that video ruclips.net/video/44WXN8MI66o/видео.html it shows both the process for mounting the rear camera in the inside of the car and mounted outside of the car. Hope this helps, Cheers!
I have watched several of your RedTiger videos and they are all very well done. Thank you. I have one of these cameras on the way and the videos are very helpful. Question: When you were connecting the B+ wire to the empty slot in the breaker box, how did you know how many amps that slot is rated for? Thanks.
Thank Douglas! Ah the Amp rating of the fuse for the hardwire kit is determined by the hardwire kit being used (some kits have higher Amp requirements and some have lower amp draw). Here is my follow up video ruclips.net/video/Yky9_tTvwMc/видео.html where I explain how hardwire kits work and the different features to look for, Cheers!
Hello, thank you for your information. Except for the empty fuses in this diagram, which fuse would you recommend for battery power? I do not have a volt measuring device.
Thanks for this amazing detailed video! I also watched your video where you talk about the obd port to power the dashcam. Which of these two options should I use? I'm stuck in the middle. The car I'd be working on would be a 2018 Lexus
You're welcome Anmol! Ah I usually recommend professional installation but if you are looking to install it yourself the OBD2 method is much easier. Hope this helps, Cheers!
Thanks for putting this video Alex!! So Awesome! Gives me more confidence to do mine as well. Quick question, is the battery drain noticeable when the 24H parking/TimeLapse option is turned on? Thanks again!
You're welcome HoverPilder! Ah that will depend on the dash cam that is being used (some use more power than others while in park mode) and also depend on the car's battery, size, age, health condition and state of charge. In addition to that you also want to take in consideration any parasitic draw from other items on the vehicle that use power when the car is off. This is specially common on newer vehicles. For example I have an older Jeep that can sits for months a time with little to no battery draw, then I have a 2017 car that will almost completely drain my battery in a few weeks if the car is not used (mind you that car does not have any aftermarket devices connected to it). And here is the battery tester I use ruclips.net/video/kCNrfa8RUKU/видео.html if you want to test your battery for capacity and health, it can also perform a parasitic draw test if needed. Cheers!
Thank you Clayton! Ah unfortunately I'm not familiar with the SC200D or it's hardwire kit. I may need to add it to the list of dash cams to test (the list is getting longer by the day!) Stay tuned, Cheers!
Hi Autofun, I have a Toyota Yaris hybrid GR 2019, if I wanna to install Thinkware f200 pro, which of your tutorial video I can follow will be better, thank you.😊
Hello , thanks for your videos very well explained. Can you tell me when to use a 3 wire kit or a 2 wire kit, and if you know , it is safe to hardwire a highlander hybrid?. Thanks so much.
You're He tor Moreno! and thank you! ah yes regarding 2 vs 3 wire hardwire kits, the hardwire kit required will be determined by the dash cam you are using. Some require a 2 wire hardwire kit and some require a 3 wire hardwire kit. Here is a video where I explain the differences in more detail ruclips.net/video/Yky9_tTvwMc/видео.html Regarding hardwire in a hybrid, this is going to depend greatly on the Make, Model, and yr of the car. Some hybrids have a tiny car battery and a hardwire kit will not yield the same benefit as in gasoline cars with a full size battery. Also in some hybrids (and some electric EVs) are sensitive to hardwire kits and may throw a code if a hardwire kit is connected. The best way to find out if your vehicle is compatible with a hardwire kit would be to check the owners manual or contact the dealer or manufacturer to check if it is. Hope this helps, Cheers!
Thank you for this! What would it take for the A pillar airbag to deploy while trying to remove that plastic trim? You mentioned horror stories about this, can you share links to examples of this going wrong and why it happened?
Hi Walker! That is a great question, technically they should only deploy when the car experiences a G load in a specific direction for a certain period of time (as it was to explained to my by an engineer that develops them) However, once a person starts poking and pulling around, the potential for something to cause the air bag to deploy is there. The case I mentioned, sent the tech to the ER where he lasted about a month before he passed. Tragic story and somewhat of freak accident involving an air bag assembly, nevertheless since this was something I saw first hand (the accident scene) it never left my mind. One day I will share this this story on the channel... Cheers!
Hi! Just recently hardwired garmin dash cam mini 2 a few days ago. Every time I switch on the start engine, it gives a warning of ‘high battery discharge’, how do you fix this and avoid draining the car battery? Thank you!
Hi Cee Jay Ghuts! ah double check the hard wire kit your are using to make sure it supports low battery protection. Also some kits are adjustable which can allow the installer to select at what point the low voltage protection kicks on, here is a video where I cover this in more detail ruclips.net/video/RoiQ-Xvr09M/видео.html (also on some dash cams enabling things like time lapse or extended lengths of parking mode can cause additional drain, you can try turning off time lapse or try reducing the parking mode "time" to see if that reduces the drain. Hope this helps, Cheers!
Dumb question but if the ACC power only works when the car is on, how does this operate if you want to have the 24 hour parking protection enabled ? I’m no car electrician and have found this video a simple gem to follow and have installed my F7NP with constant power to both the B+ and the ACC so that I have the 24 hour monitoring. I guess I’m looking for confirmation that this is actually the best option. I literally finished a couple of hours ago so battery drain and that issue I have not seen. I would love to have you comments on this. FYI B+ was installed to an empty slot and the ACC was fuse tapped to the radio.
Hi J! Most dash cams that require a 3 lead hardwire kit will usually need all 3 wires to be connected (to their correct locations for each, BAT, ACC and GND) in order for the dash cam to work correctly. What I recommend when someone does not need park monitoring, is just to turn it off in the settings menu (most dash cams will let you turn off this feature). Cheers!
Im assuming all cars have the fuse box power part on the right side (talking about the part where you probed the sides of the fuse box slots)? Or should I buy a probe o: Also, do you know if hardwiring like this drains the battery when using the dash cam's "parking mode"? Great video!
Thank you Cookies! Ah the location of the fuse box can vary from car to car. The car on this video actually has a fuse box on the left side, right side and engine compartment (and others even have them in the trunk of the car). Regarding if a hardwire kit will drain your battery, this will depend on your dash cam's hardwire kit. If the dash cam supports park mode, then it will turn off and enter parking monitoring while the car is off to reduce battery drain, additionally if some hardwire kits supports low voltage cut off, that adds another prevention measure against draining your battery. Here is my video where I cover hardwire kits and their differences to look for ruclips.net/video/Yky9_tTvwMc/видео.html Cheers!
Thanks for yor reply on my last comment.. My cam turns on and off with car, and i set the G-sensor setting and then also the time lapse parking monitoring and I am not having any luck getting it to record? or like playback footage. I tried to walk in front and bump into my car but no dice.. :/
Hi Sherman! Not sure what dash cam you are using or how it's connected, but I would recommend referring to the owners manual that came with it to determine how to enable parking mode. Cheers!
What im curious about are the side curtain airbags along the roof rails for a rear camera installation. Dont particularly want to run it under the weather stripping, as ive seen that create gaps in the past. Id rather run along the wiring track above the car or below. But ... The camera wire is too short to go along the bottom all the way back -_-
Hi T! Here is my follow up video where I cover how I find ACC and BATT on any car ruclips.net/video/K2iKXj82354/видео.html However I strongly recommend profession installation due to the dangers mentioned on that video and the dangers with airbags mentioned on this video. Cheers!
Hi. Great video. I have a 2021 Toyota C-HR. I'm going to assume that he fuse box is probably in the same location as the one in this video. I'm a little weary about installing the cable in or around the pillar where the airbag is located. I was thinking about taking my car to a professional to do this, but looking around, the cheapest deal I could find to have it professionally installed starts at $150.00. Kind of expensive for the amount of time it takes to get this done....hence the reason for me looking at doing it myself. I have my dash cam in the center of the windshield. Just wondering what your thoughts are on a newbie doing this wiring. Thanks.
Thank you Johnny! Yep working around live airbags is definitely not for the faint of heart, there is also the potential of breaking panels or panel retainers if not experienced on how those are released. So I do strongly recommend profession installation due to the dangers mentioned on this video with air bags and the issues caused if erroneously tapping a critical system of the vehicle explained in my dedicated hardwire here ruclips.net/video/K2iKXj82354/видео.html Cheers!
Hi Jonny! This will depend on the hardwire kit the installer is using some comes with them some do not. Here is fuse tap install video where I cover this in more detail ruclips.net/video/Qzw9yUYN7zo/видео.html Hope this helps, Cheers!
What can't we use to cover the fuse box, after installing the double fuse connection in the fuse box, we can't not install the fuse cover protection. Here in Canada , there might be some snow droplet that could go on the fuse wen we get in with are booths full of snow during the winter.
Duct tape, gaffer’s tape, or electrical tape to elongate the walls of the fuse box and enclose the fuses with the lid should work! As long as the tape is non-conductive.
Another great video I've learned so much watching your videos I think I'm ready to get one and hard wire it just curious what camera you installed in the Corolla
Thank you B B! Ah yes I normally run a minimum of 2 dashcams on my car for redundancy, a normal dash cam and a mirror dash cam, this is one of them ruclips.net/video/TvKRKYA7cgQ/видео.html and the mirror dash cam will vary depending on what mirror dash cam I'm testing at the time. Hope this helps, Cheers!
Hi Ricardo! Ah I actually just released a video showing both how to install a rear camera on the inside of the car (the easiest way imo) or the outside of the car (the longest way) Here you go ruclips.net/video/wlj9aa6L_Wg/видео.html Cheers!
Quick question @alexautofun, when looking at the empty fuse spots, you check that they do have power when the car is off, but how do we know that they have the right amperage to plug a dashcam into them? Or is that not a thing?
Hi Nicolas!
Hi Rolando! The same techniques shown on this video can be applied to other vehicles. However I strongly recommend profession installation due to the dangers mentioned on this video with air bags and the issues caused if erroneously tapping a critical system of the vehicle explained in my dedicated hardwire here ruclips.net/video/K2iKXj82354/видео.html Cheers!
Hi! I'm trying to hardwire a dashcam to my Corolla as well but I'm running into a problem and am wondering if you can help. My fuse for the cigarette lighter is wrapped with some kind of wire, so I was trying to use another one. I tested the fuses for the wipers and the washing mechanism and they did not light up when the car was turned off. I plugged in my dashcam in the fuse and plugged in the wiper fuse as well. However, when I plugged in the dashcam, it turned on when I hadn't turned on the car. According to the instructions, this means I plugged it into a fuse with no power or one with constant power. Is there a different fuse I should try? Thanks for all your videos, they're super helpful!
Hi Kaz! Correct, if the ACC or BATT wire from the hardwire kit is plugged into a spot that does not have power at the correct time, the dash cam will not turn on. Here is my videoruclips.net/video/K2iKXj82354/видео.html where I show how I find ACC and BATT on any vehicle. Cheers!
Great video! I saw on the constant power cable box that it has fuse specs listed as: 250V 2A. Around 8:55 it looks like there's an 15 amp fuse on the accessory port. Wouldn't both the power and accessory fuses need to be 2A? Thanks for the help!
Thank you Anthony! ah yes the hard wire kit I installed on this video has a maximum output rating of 2A (this will vary from kit to kit), I like to use the fuses that the kit comes with for warranty purposes (in this case they were 15 amp fuses) but I know some viewers has swapped in smaller ones (the idea would be that the fuse could be popped earlier than 15A). Hope this makes sense and thanks for watching bud!
@@AlexAutoFun Thank you for getting back to me so quickly! I admit I'm not very familiar with wiring/fuses. The fuse taps I bought came with various sized fuses. Should I use a 2A fuse on both the accessory and power cables? The fuse taps I bought come with one that is a 3A fuse. Would those be ok?
@@anthonycortez_png Hi Anthony! what I usually do for the fuse taps is use the same Amp rating as what came with the hardwire kit, so If your hard wire kit came with 2amp fuses then yeah I would use 2amp fuses. Here is another I made where I show how to swap those fuse taps in case you need to do this ruclips.net/video/Qzw9yUYN7zo/видео.html Hope this helps bud!
The airbag thing scared me so much on my new car that I didnt even bother routing this way. Was also worried about the fuses. My car comes with an autodimming/compass mirror, which means everything I need to power my dashcam is in the overhead console powering the mirror. All I had to do was open it up and tap into the correct wires. Also had to make sure there was enough space for the hardwire box and excess cable. You'd be surprised how much room there is up there on some cars.
Hi Yal! Yeah some cars do have power in that area, here is my follow up video where I show how that could be used to power a dash cam ruclips.net/video/-hGu8KZLaZ4/видео.html Cheers!
Hi Anubhav! yeah air bag deployment is a very complicated subject where physics, electronics and theory make up the science behind it. I had an air bag engineer comment on the criticality of affecting the air bag deployment which confirms my suspicions (and viewers comments concerns about dash cam installations and air bag now that they are more common throughout vehicles) on the danger involved when working around air bag (both at the time of the install and after). Truly the science of engineering, and stay tuned video on the air bag accident that I mention coming. But yeah complicated subject indeed (I have also met very senior engineers that work on air bag development and man I can tell you it's a very specialized field) Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun thanks Alex
@@MShaafi You're welcome!
Where is the link to the probe?
Thanks for discussing the possible interference with an airbag deployment. The general public is not knowledgeable about the design, packaging and deployment of side curtain airbags. As a retired airbag design engineer, I would hate to see a carefully designed, tested and validated supplemental restraint product not work properly because a car owner unintentionally degraded the deployment path or timing. Or injure themself in the process of making a modification.
You're welcome Pete! and also thank you for your input! with your background this has a lot of weight to it, appreciate you sharing this info, Cheers!
Pete, Is it recommened to install the wires behind the airbags then?
I'm having a hard time seeing how a small wire can interfere with the airbag? The airbag being inflated happens which such a force that the cable simply would snap or being pulled with the airbag. Has this ever been tested?
@Tobias Brage I think there is less concern that it will mess with the airbag and more concern the cable will mess with your face when it deploys.
@@Gryph0508lol, right? Or the airbag will yank the cable as it inflates and that cable will yank the dashcam, either of which ending up connecting with your face or body.

Can the battery get drained if you dont start the car for say a week or month?
@@rkhunt007 I wired it with a battery pack between the car and dash cam connection, specifically to avoid this situation
Cheers!

Thanks for the video. I used this to help wire a lighting kit onto my car. Didn't know where to put the negative.

You explain everything so perfectly, thank you. I'd rather you just do it for me. I wanna be able to do this myself, so I hope I can!

Cheers!

Great video, thank you! Can the battery wire be left without connecting it to the fuse box? I don't want continuous recording.
Thanks Sanj! Ah regarding the BATT wire, most dash cams that require a 3 lead hardwire kit will usually need all 3 wires to be connected in order for the kit to work correctly. Most dash cam also will let you turn off park monitor if you don't need it.

Could you also do a video on how to:
properly wire a rear camera for the Wolfbox or similar mirror dash cam.
You're welcome! and yes here is my follow up video showing how I find ACC and BATT on any vehicle ruclips.net/video/K2iKXj82354/видео.html Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun Yes, I was inclined towards the OBD2 as well, hopefully everything works fine! Thanks man!
@@anmolmaan6258 You're welcome!
Cheers!
Thank you for the video, it was very useful - especially the part about the airbag.
You're welcome Fred!
Great videos
On the hardwire kit will that be comparable with the Cobra Dash camera SC200D?
Thank you
Thank you Clayton! Ah unfortunately I'm not familiar with the SC200D or it's hardwire kit. I may need to add it to the list of dash cams to test (the list is getting longer by the day!) Stay tuned, Cheers!
Your lesson is so good. i hope someday i have the courage to hook my cam up to the fuse box😅.
Thank you Philip!
Great job! Informative, thorough, and helpful. Thanks!
You're welcome and thank you Steven!
Hi Autofun, I have a Toyota Yaris hybrid GR 2019, if I wanna to install Thinkware f200 pro, which of your tutorial video I can follow will be better, thank you.😊
Hi Jimmy! Ah yes here is my dedicated hardwire video where I cover the process in more detail ruclips.net/video/K2iKXj82354/видео.html Cheers!
i like the way u explain the steps.
Thanks Rajeev, Cheers!
Or should I buy a probe o:
Also, do you know if hardwiring like this drains the battery when using the dash cam's "parking mode"?
Another brilliant video
Thank you Steve!
Good thing to know about the air bags thanks
You're welcome Franco!
Cheers!
Very Clear, and understandable . Thank You.
You're welcome and thank you Toby!
This is exactly what I needed.
Excellent presentation of the process.
Thank you John! I appreciate that!
What im curious about are the side curtain airbags along the roof rails for a rear camera installation. Dont particularly want to run it under the weather stripping, as ive seen that create gaps in the past. Id rather run along the wiring track above the car or below. But ... The camera wire is too short to go along the bottom all the way back -_-
This is gonna help me in my gr corolla! I also have a neon srt4

Hi T! Here is my follow up video where I cover how I find ACC and BATT on any car ruclips.net/video/K2iKXj82354/видео.html However I strongly recommend profession installation due to the dangers mentioned on that video and the dangers with airbags mentioned on this video. Cheers!

@JohnHill-qo3hb You're welcome and thank you John!
Hi, how about the hardwire kit that comes with the fuse commector at the both ends of the red & yellow wires? Are those preinstalled fuses?
Hi I! Correct, in some vehicles re-installing the fuse is not possible due to the added height of the fuse taps. Cheers!
Duct tape, gaffer’s tape, or electrical tape to elongate the walls of the fuse box and enclose the fuses with the lid should work! As long as the tape is non-conductive.
@@mossnoth all ready did it, but thanks for your reply.

How about running the cable to the rear camera? I have a 2017 honda pilot. Trying to do it the cleanest easier way.
Hi Nicolas!
Do you have a video for running the wire for a rear dash cam and the car has side air bags
Its a 2013 honda accord exl
Cheers!

Thanks Bud!
I'm have same problem my hard wire kit has 15 fuses as well
So can I use these fuses my car has some 10 and 20 fuses
The airbag thing scared me so much on my new car that I didnt even bother routing this way. Was also worried about the fuses. My car comes with an autodimming/compass mirror, which means everything I need to power my dashcam is in the overhead console powering the mirror. All I had to do was open it up and tap into the correct wires. Also had to make sure there was enough space for the hardwire box and excess cable. You'd be surprised how much room there is up there on some cars.
Hi Yal! Yeah some cars do have power in that area, here is my follow up video where I show how that could be used to power a dash cam ruclips.net/video/-hGu8KZLaZ4/видео.html Cheers!
perfect ... few will understand the gravity of what u r explaining
Hi Anubhav! yeah air bag deployment is a very complicated subject where physics, electronics and theory make up the science behind it.
