    Just found a Unicorn. 2019 CT6-V Blackwing with 24k miles on it. In Shadow Metallic too. 10/10 showroom condition. Super lucky. I sell Cadillacs and a GM Executive traded it in for a 2022 CT5-V Blackwing. I'll never hit the lotto but every now and then the universe opens up and gives me a lil taste and my new car is it. It's so sick. Still can't believe it. Happy driving yall!

      I agree. Traditional Cadillac model names from yesteryear, like the Eldorado, Seville, Coupe/Seadan DeVille, Fleetwood, etc are far better, that these "Euro-style" Alpha-numeric monikers , like CT-5, C66 etc. It doesn't provide the car with the property identity that it deserves !!

    CT6s are exceedingly rare in the upper class areas of Charlotte, NC. The Germans still reign supreme (when it isn’t a crossover that is), but I saw a CT6 the other day and it was pretty striking. I don’t know if my money would be spent here, but I’m excited that Cadillac makes a very convincing argument with this car.

  • @tjh9329
    @tjh9329 3 года назад +6

    This engine was developed by a 3rd party contractor. GM had more of a refining role in development. The first prototypes arrived in late 2015, and as far as resources went, this was far from the budget you think it was, much testing was done with salvaged parts and pieces from failed prototypes. We actually took the blocks out to machine shops to have the shrapnel cleaned out when they failed so we could re-use the blocks since we had no way of getting more. I don't know what the plan was from the beginning but it certainly wasn't profit or volume.

    A certified future classic when you consider that the modern Audis and BMWs have lost so much of their inherent character with forced aspiration and the production run is so tiny, although AMG conversely seems to have struck a winner with their 4.0. A shame that the CT6 has only come into fruition so late into its production run and is effectively discontinued outside of China. Hopefully this engine can make its way into the likes of the Escalade and other GM vehicles. For the price hard to pass the likes of the W222 or A8 though. As a European, I'm not massively familiar with Cadillac as a brand but this grabbed my attention from over the pond! Great Review!

    I sold Cadillacs for a year. They suffered from an identity crisis. The sales program was based on competing directly against the Germans, especially BMW. We got one of the first XTS sedans in our region and the sales manager made it a point that we needed to pitch it as an American series 7. The CTS-V was described as "better than an M5" None of it made sense to me and when I sold them, I never brought up competition, just to try to sell the merits of the car. The XTS was a sales failure (they had very high hopes for it) and the CTS-V was always a low numbers car. It was a sad as approach on their part

    I was hoping that you'd do a review of this car at some point. The CT6 was always a good car in search of a great engine. And like the Allante before it, it got the engine it needed right before it got axed. The Road and Track article from Jun 18th speaks the in the most detail I've seen on the subject. Why was the CT6 discontinued in the States (still available in China)? Why after Cadillac decided to shift to EVs did the Blackwing V8 even see the light of day? My opinion is that we are still seeing the after effects of the GM bankruptcy in 2009, which like a tsunami caused catastrophic waves through the organization that are still being felt. After the axing of Pontiac, Olds, Saab and Saturn, there were still barely enough funds to operate and continue with new product. We would have seen the C8 mid-engine Corvette years ago had it not been for that so we got the C7 instead. Opel was sold off so goodbye Buick Cascada and the end of a Buick/Opel relationship that dates back to the late 60s (my late father and his sister both had Opel Kadetts...his sister still had hers but is hasn't run in 30 years). And as for Cadillac, I remember my friend who owns the local Caddy dealership show me slides of future product John de Nysschen had promised the dealers. The road map was a complete fleshing out of all of their product holes. But some of those cars either didn't see the light of day or ended up different than the original vision (the XT6 was supposed to be an Omega-based car...instead we got something half-assed based on other existing GM product). There is supposed to be a mid-engine sports car Caddy based on the C8 Corvette somewhere....hell, a keyfob was even leaked to the press. Will we ever see that halo car? At this point I have my doubts. This car was supposed to have gotten the Blackwing V8. The CT5 Blackwing should have gotten that engine too but we've been told not to wait up for it. And I consider it to be marketing malpractice to the upcoming 2021 Escalade didn't feature this engine as a differentiator for the Tahoe and Yukon products. Why isn't the Blackwing in the new 'Slade? No more money for engineering? Who knows. Could Cadillac have sold a ton of them at high profit? Absolutely. You know me as a huge Cadillac fan. I've driven six of them in my adult life. I really want the CT6 Blackwing as a daily but that's not going to happen. But it still should be on sale. As it stands, there are a few scattered around the country on dealer lots languishing when they should be marketed as a flagship product. I hope the EV products finally get this right. Because it looks from where I sit like they took a lot of the available engineering dollars from products currently in the showrooms for a promise in the new 1-4 years.

I think personally they developed this state of the art engine at the very last moments until the entire company said omg we need to move to BEV asap. Stupid but there it is. So they dropped the line. Odd thing is the CT5 V doesn't use this. Instead it uses the 6.2L...but why? Id say they didn't have the tooling but they did, the engine ran for 2 production years. So why? I dunno.

    "Other GM cars"= 2022 C8? I continue to be perplexed by how Americans continue to pay well over 100K for BMW and AMG "performance" sedans, while sending to the grave American sedans.
    I would not touch a Panemera or an AMG. Their rate of depreciation is horrendous, and maintenance is outrageous. Sad to see the demise of the American sedan in the horizon. I'm 60, and I remember riding in our neighbor's in 1971 Conti. A Caddy and Continental were the epitome of luxury. Don't get me wrong, I would not buy either today. I hate that so many CT6s were sold without the V8 option. I support what Caddy is doing, but I don't like this practice. The CT5V and 4V are being released with underperforming motors only to come back with bigger badder motors for 2021. The technology across the line ups don't add up. You have new Escalade with the OLED display so how long does it take to get that in the CT6 and other newly released vehicles. Lets get everything upgraded at the same time so people don't have to waste their money. If I was in a 3.0TT platinum CT6 I purchased brand new, right now I'd be pissed. This V8 is the same price as the 3.0TT when it was new.

      Maybe. I've been hearing that Cadillac is considering building CT6's again if they can find a place to put the line (the old factory was converted over to making electric vehicles) 🤷🏽‍♂️

      I sure hope it isn't dead. I have actually driven a couple (no, not of this performance level) but the regular model levels, and I LOVED them. For a big car, mind you, which is what you are discussing here when you consider the CT6, it is wonderful.

    MotoManTV, George,
    I feel that the CT6 is a masterpiece and that the recently exited CEO of the Cadillac division doomed it by insisting that it be compared to and marketed against a 7 Series or S Class when from the start it wasn’t intended nor engineered to be. The CT6 would have been better marketed as a competitor to a 6 Series, CLS or GS where it competed against driver’s sedans and offers a legitimate offering and was priced correctly in each option package. Had this been a success despite the market’s shift, Cadillac might have maintained its place and in fact regained much of its strength in the upper level sedan market as some have, and been able to produce a Ct8 or Escala, Ciel and Xt8. This engine could have been in the highest option levels of any of them.
    He was just wrong for everyone.

      MotoManTV Leasing limited production cars in Canada is wonderful :). I prepay the full principal via down payment and then sell privately near the lease end and nearly make my down payment back in equity since I sell them at near MSRP 2.5-3 years later with low buyouts (worked on my S5, C63S and to a lesser extent my previous G37). And my credit score is still 850 :)

      Why not just buy it? Why lease?

    • @CapnT87
      @CapnT87 3 года назад

      @@giggiddy I’m lucky enough here in Canada that my last 3 $100k performance cars haven’t depreciated much at all over the lease term. Therefore with my large down payment which covered almost all of the principal for the lease term, I have that same amount in equity and use that equity as the large down payment for the next car. Monthly payments are just a few hundred dollars and not much of it is wasted to interest. It’s the best option for not being able to come close to buying it outright new. One day a car will depreciate and I’ll finally lose that $30k down payment...but for now, the same cash has paid for 3 cars :)

    4:02 Thats whats missing from BEV's sure some of them have sound but they don't ring out like a real truely fantastic mechanical engine does. Id argue if you want ppl to have a true love for BEV's this needs to be reproduced. I know BMW finally hired a real professional on their last BEV but even that doesn't continue to ring out. They cap it to keep you from wanting to go the extra mile. Personally I think that's a miss.

Suffice it to say that their choices for engineering have run the brand into the ground. But hey, at least they love the Corvette...
