  • Gale Banks unboxes his new 2019 Cadillac CT6-V Blackwing V8, one of only 725 made! It's an all-aluminum, double overhead cam, twin-turbo, twin-intercooled, twin-wastegated, 500 hp, all-wheel drive, all-wheel steer muscle car.
    The engine was branded as the "Blackwing V8" by GM technicians and is the first Cadillac-exclusive dual overhead cam V8 engine since the Northstar V8 was dropped in 2011.
    The aluminum cylinder block features pressed-in iron liners, cross-bolted main bearing caps and houses a lightweight rotating assembly composed of a forged steel crankshaft, forged steel connecting rods and high strength hypereutectic aluminum pistons. Its firing order is 1-5-4-3-6-8-7-2.
    The aluminum cylinder heads house dual overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder; exhaust valves are sodium-filled.
    The turbochargers are mounted between the cylinder banks in a so-called hot-V configuration and their twin-scroll design broadens their performance capability, offering a quicker response and greater efficiency. The turbochargers produce up to 20 psi (1.4 bar) and are matched with electronic wastegate control for more precise boost management and more responsive torque production. 90 percent of the engine's peak torque is available at 2000 rpm and carried through 5200 rpm.

      Exactly, so what the hell's wrong with them !?!???.
      thank heavens on their new trucks they went back to a round fender for the round wheel instead of a square fender with a round wheel !!!!
      I mean come on seriously GM who in the hell create sand designs a square opening for round object. And trying to put a larger tire on their trucks.... ugly.
      And then you're cutting into fender Wells. They leave no room for growth and imagination to be able to make the vehicle your own.
      yep I'm a GM guy but holy crap when are they going to get somebody in the driver seat who can think out of the box and think for themselves and quit making the beds and other parts that look like someone else's design ...like either it's part Ford or part Dodge ....the box on the new Chevy trucks looks like it came from last year's Ford recycling bin.
      Yeah Gale was smart to jump in on this one.... Cuz GMO find a way to screw it up.
      You know the sad part is it's like watching a movie that's really really good, it does well at the box office, so then they make several sequels and milk it for all it's worth . But all the rest suck in comparison to the first.

      @@trakyboy5128 The CT6 was awesome, but a half step. it was a tweener between the 5 series/E-class, and the 7 series/S-class. There will be another flagship that is larger, and more prestigious.

    In the 40s 50s 60s 70s and 80s everyone looked up to Cadillac; Bentley, Rolls Royce, Mercedes Benz. BMW and Audi weren't even in the game. This CT6 is what America needs. If you want a American luxury car for 200k where do people go? Cadillac needs to make a coupe CT6 and go up against the world, and get the business executive coupe and sedan throne back. STOP making stuff that goes up against a damn BMW 3 series. Your not going to be the king if you take ALL the 3 series market. You will be king if you take half of Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and S class market. I hope that the new electric CT6 platform based car goes after the Tesla model s market share with Benz S class quality, and Porsche Taycan price tag and steels the show by being a good deal for the money.

    • @DesertStateInEU
      @DesertStateInEU 4 года назад

      Only the ATS goes up against the 3 series. You do realize Cadillac has way more models than that right? Including the CTS-V, CT4, CT5, and SUVs.

    • @punitm85
      @punitm85 4 года назад

      ATS was a mistake. Do you think it's a good idea to make a 35k Rolls-Royce or Bentley. Why did Cadillac think it was a good idea. The name Cadillac carries an image and the image should not be of 'ohhhh is only 40k that's cheap. It should of top of the line luxury starting where the the most expensive Buick ends, going head to head within the elite executive group.

      @@punitm85 Like I said the ATS goes up against the 3 series, its literally what it was designed for. Cadillac has other models that compete against higher end models of executive brands. The more variety of models they have the better.

I contacted a company in CA, Porterfield Racing and after working with them they've made replacement front & rear pads. Many of us from the Cadillac Forum has swapped over, they're very good and reasonable and since they only ended up making 996 '19 & '20 V Models and no one else makes pads. They're made of Kevlar & Ceramic and they outperform the Brembo (Ferodo) Pads with no dust.

It's too bad it's going to be such a limited production because being turbo you're going to be able to add a heap of power to it in only a tune. Congratulations on your new vehicle. This baby is a beast and I'm very happy to see that it's from GM. It's sad to think that with the constant push towards more and more power and technology eventually we will see the end of the combustion engine to be eventually replaced by new technologies such as electricity and/or hydrogen. For all it's boosted V8 technology it's still no match for a top of the line Tesla or Porsche Taycan sedan. Those cars will blow the doors off this car. The new Tesla full size sedan will feature the electric motor off the 3 series performante and it's batteries and in the newest software upgrade of "Ludicrous" mode will do 0 - 60 in 2.28 seconds while the Taycan Turbo S will do it in 2.6 seconds and can do the 1/4 mile in 10 seconds. We will all miss the whoosh sound of the turbos and the deep throat of the growling engines especially in cold starts. Remember this all started a few years back with the Aston Martin V8 Vantage S. I will miss the old push rods. BTW - I hope that the rear wheel steering will be reliable. You may remember the 1996 Nissan 300 ZX TT; it featured the HICAS system which is rear wheel drive and a 3.0 liter Twin Turbo. Funny how today most car manufacturers feature either a 2.0 4 cylinder TT or a 3.0 liter V6 TT and Nissan did this 20 years ago! Enjoy every minute of this amazing car my fellow gearhead!

      Technology is now going to be coming down to price evs are infinitely less complex a v8 can cost as much as a entire ev development. That's why engines are going away old technology that isnt running off a heat cycle such as evs is cheaper. In reality not incredibly efficient if you take everything into account evs in reality are just as efficient as current road cars so about 20 percent just the motor itself is 95 percent. Which means really nothing. Energy is greatest when produced by a heat engine because its actually more efficient but still max efficiency is 60-70 percent max normally 63.3 percent is max theoretically speaking. Engines will never completely go away they do a lot of jobs and they are in many ways capable of a lot more than a simple electric motor theres pros and cons to every motor or engine and they all have a place there will never be a day when engines are gone. If they are they will be likely the last motor to go.

    Fantastic video and a beautiful car! The CT6 is my dream car, I’d love to have the 2020 in platinum trim because it comes with the Blackwing (with a little less power) and it has all the luxury features I want. But I’d love to see a video from the future of you driving this thing on the road and the track! I’ve been wanting to hear that engine roar. Thank you again for the great video!

    Gale Banks is a legend. I'm sad to hear that Cadillac is foolishly converting its factory to produce electric vehicles. Gas is better and will be for a long time coming. Electric cars are way too heavy and run out of energy too quickly to go for long trips efficiently. I also hope that they learned from their northstar mistakes.

    • @extremedrivr

    Cadillac should have made the starting price around $125K-$150K since its only going to be 725 made. The price would help limit it from falling into the wrong hands... I've seen some pretty f*d Platinum Escalade ESV's which typically run $100-$130K after extra goodies, financing and taxes. It pisses me off the conditions some people put these vehicles through.
