    I forgot mention two things:
    1. There is added protection for the screen that is provided by two raised bumps on either side of the screen.
    2. The case DOES NOT affect the onboard mics.

The new pro case is improved. The rain roll cage protects the gimbal. Files can be copied directly from pocket3 without removing the sd, while simultaneously recharging the pocket3

    Great review, thanks.
In your 'cons' you listed lack of gimbal protection when the lid is off - actually, the gimbal protection is one of the key features highlighted in the Scotty promo video. Once the case is on, if the whole thing topples over on a table or whatever, the case prevents the gimbal head from hitting the surface even with the lid off. Not something I would actually test myself but refer to the promo where Scotty risked the life of his Pocket 3. And, even with the lid off, you can lay the camera down any way you want and the gimbal will be clear of the surface, which is not normally the case. So you can for instance lie it down on a table with the screen uppermost while shooting, and the gimbal will still function. Normally to do that you'd have to put the camera down with the gimbal projecting beyond the table edge, which could be risky.
A "con" I would add is that you have to be very careful about how you take the camera out of the case - don't apply pressure to the screen (bearing in mind the screen faults caused probably by pressure on the screen when removing the camera from the DJI case) and don't grab the gimbal and yank! Scotty's site has a video showing his recommended removal method. But as you say, once inserted it's not necessary to remove the camera unless you want to reduce it to its smallest and lightest.
Lastly, the extra weight of the case helps with Z axis stability, making the camera slightly less likely to "bob" when you walk, due to the added inertia of the weight.
I have the "slim" version of the case as well as the "Pro" version which accommodates the battery handle as well. Excellent accessories.

All good points. For the lack of protection I meant in the case of a full drop, head down or when in a pocket or bag. It definitely adds some extra protection if falling over on a table. The weight is only an issue on a stick in which case the weight also does not help for stability. In the hand it does for sure. I didn’t;t think of the con of damaging the camera when taking off the case. I don’t plan to remove it so it did not occur to me.

@@TheDeadlyraptor So far the felt has been fine, but of course it's early days. And I tend to keep mine in this case all the time so it's not being slid past the felt regularly.

I bought one. Quit happy with it. But I’m not convinced about the effectiveness of the gimbal cover/cap. It doesn’t appear to be a snug fit. Which is obviously important. Removing the camera from the case is easy and worry free if you have the lanyard attached to the camera. Just pull it up and straight out. Excellent

A great idea in theory, and I thought I had found the perfect solution for protecting the Pocket 3. Unfortunately, however, there is one major drawback that I hadn't considered and it turned out to be a showstopper: the case, as a thick, black shell that completely encloses the camera, inevitably causes it to overheat after a relatively short time during longer shots in warm weather (several shots lasting 5 to 10 minutes).
This is likely the reason why DJI did NOT provide the Pocket 3 with a fixed protective cover: the camera needs air to dissipate the heat. A "winter coat" like this case considerably hinders cooling and the camera switches off after a while.
You then have to take the Pocket 3 out of the case to let it cool down, which is ultimately frustrating and counterproductive.
In winter, of course, this case works perfectly and I would recommend it for that use case.

Thank you for your input. I'll keep that in mind for the occasional long-form videos that I make. I tend to take small clips where this isn't an issue to it's good to not get surprised by it.

Andrew, two questions for you. 1. Does the Case prevent heat dissipating from the Pocket 3 and thus cause overheating? 2. How do you safety remove Pocket 3 from this case. Tight fit and a can’t find anything to pull or push Pocket 3 out the case. What do you suggest? Thanks so much for you experience.

    • @AndrewVanBeekOttawa
      @AndrewVanBeekOttawa  4 месяца назад +1

I don’t leave it sitting for very long so overheating is never an issue for me. For the version without the extended battery, the camera slides out of the case when the bottom screw is released.
I’ve heard of people having issues with this with the extended battery case.

Nice case, well designed but flawed in couple of area's - The one I received was so extremely snug I actually struggled to remove my Pocket 3 from the case. I ended up having to completely remove the tripod screw and insert a 00 screwdriver up inside and pushing on the inside of tripod mount of the DJI battery extension pack just to remove my Pocket 3 from the Pro Case (that's a major pain the the backside imo). Also it comes with two coldshoe mounts and a belt clip, but only 2 screws, for gods sake why? The two cold shoes are countersunk to accept the screws, but they didn't bother to countersink the belt clip (so once fitted the belt clip screw doesn't fit flush) - Again Why? The top cover has holes to accept the Mic 2, great I guess but as a result offers absolutely zero dust protection, which is a shame. Finially the supplied wrist lanyard is a little too small for the average wrist, it's actually smaller than the one supplied by DJI. - So close to being the ideal case, but the extremely snug fit totally killed it for me.

We know it’s a 3D printed product but should be better finished product made not to look like it was 3D printed. But great design. I like the product but wouldn’t buy it yet for those reasons.
