I agree with you that getting a good antenna with any setup, especially POTA is the best way to make the most contacts. In my experience buying gear for various hobbies is to buy the best you can afford. If you outgrown the gear, you can upgrade. At the same time, I am believer in the buy once, cry once mantra.
