I stood in line outside the Cort Theatre TWO DAYS to get STANDING ROOM ONLY tix to see Viola Davis and Denzel Washington take on 2 of August Wilson's most iconic roles. It was the greatest theatre experience I've ever had. The audience was in AWE. It was like watching two heavyweight boxers go toe-to-toe for 2.5 hours. MASTERFUL.
Viola is the only Black artist, the youngest person, and one of 24 (she was the 23rd) to have won the Triple Crown of Acting (Tony, Emmy, Oscar)... Not even Meryl has achieved this (no Tony) Fun Fact: The great Mary Alice won the 1987 Tony for originating the role of Rose Maxon in Fences. Back then she competed in the Featured Actress category. Rose is 2/2 Tony wins 🙌🏾
