Thanks for this great video. Man, I've been following your channel for years but ( besides the Sykes tones) this is the best I've heard you sound through an amp. Ever.
My guitar teacher had, and probably still owns, a snake skin CAA OD100. I don't know if it was built like that or someone before him had it re-tolexed but man, I've never heard an amp sound like that in my life. I could pull everything through hit: fusion, crispy cleans, classic rock tones and even downtuned chugga chugga. What an amp.
when you have few guitar, cabs and other gear, this is the kind of amp you have to explore during over 10 years to really grasp the reach of all its possibilities. IMO, if you have any OD100 series(CAA PT100 included), you have the best amp ever and it can get anything done if you really work on your playing skills. + today I was stunted to realize my SE100 can sound like a CL+ if I decrease the Q=Filter to minimum with my Bill & Becky Lawrence L500 pickup. This with the mid scooped at 2 and the rest at 5, including the gain , volume at 1... so no excuse. These are a life time keeper.
The song you play for the intro that you called a noodle fest was a perfect mix of lead tone effects and backing track all put together to create a story without words and an emotional experience that’s almost unheard of instant chills and that’s rare .... amazing job keep it up and greetings from Nova Scotia Canada
I've had 2 of these heads. I still have one. The first and second sound the same. Anyway, when I was playing live with a band, I used this amp because it was different from the other guitarist's 5150II (6505+ now). Whether it was clean or dirty, I always got compliments on my tone. One of the sound guys described it like, "It sounds like a Marshall, but it's very round. I haven't ever heard anything like it, but it sounds great dirty. The cleans are beautiful." I was mainly playing Les Pauls and a PRS Singlecut through it. There were a few songs where we used baritones tuned to B, and it held together there also.
Never heard of this amp. Sounds killer. Really cool ch1 fender/ ch2 jtm45 vibe. I have your channel on notifications, and am always super stoked when there's a new video. Loving the 80s guitar mag overviews too. I lost a bunch to basement water flooding, but still have a couple boxes and enjoy looking back at them too.
The second you started playing the Paul, I said to myself - he's playing that Local H tune. Thank you, brought me right back to when that was all over the radio. Please do a deep dive into the ART SGX2000Express - it's too much fun and has tons of stuff
Great Mike! I have a caa standard 2006. For me the main characteristics of this amp are the tons of tones you can get from your playng experience, the guitar pot interaction, the loudness, and every little parts of the signal chain. You can't understand how sensitive the od100 is just listening to it..
That orange jhs sounds pretty damn bitchin. I’ve been looking for a new compressor as mine died months ago, so it looks like I might pick up that orange jhs. Glad you showed that. I had been struggling to choose a compressor. Not anymore. I have spoken!
Dude I've wanted this amp for years because I saw a Reb beach demo and it sounded unbelievable. . It has a lovely warm soft lead tone . I didn't realize it didn't have all that much gain. Funny you played that mean streets riff we just recently added that song to our set list weird coincidence.
Nice amp, I finally got the Two Notes Cab M plus, ordered a 2nd one had a problem with the 1/4" output jack only working pulled out half way? Getting my replacement soon.
I've never listened to Mike Landau but there's major Tambu/Mindfields era Toto vibes on the intro tune! Although personally I've never enjoyed Lukather's tones on Mindfields this sounds great! (Commented before you played any Toto haha)
Luke and Landau were tight. You have to imagine that these guys’ styles all rubbed off on each other over the years. I can definitely hear it too. I love Luke’s Mondfields tone.
@@chiricm yeah mad how they went to school together! I find with Luke, apart from the first album, Toto IV, and his current setup I've never particularly liked any of his guitar tones, although they fit the production perfectly
I believe he used the Rivera Knuclehead on Mindfields.. Never liked the sound of that amp.. However, Luke would still sound great through a Peavey keyboard-amp... On Tambu I believe he still used his great Bradshaw-stuff. CAE 3+SE and VHT power amps.. GREAT, great stuff. Btw; Luke and Landau were classmates. They've known each other since they were kids.
@@EddieVanAidan Guitarsound and taste are both very subjective.. However, you'd might check out his great "Candyman" from '94.. It was released both as a solo-album by Lukather and as a group effort (Los Lobotomys). Sony Records. The guitartones from that record are the best I've ever heard.
Can always tell when an amp’s not working for you in these vid’s..lol This amp sounded stuck between Fender and Marshall but not in a good way. Would like to try a PT 100 one day but the few CAA’s I’ve tried in the past were all uninspiring. The one good tone I heard was with the comp on the clean channel for chord stuff.
This is the amp I'd love John Suhr to bring back. Not sure why there's little thought to it, unless the PT covers too much similar ground. I know John Loves gain.
@@DanCareaga to my ears it doesn't. The mids on the PT are totally different. I had it and I have the Classic Plus now. The PT sounds thinner and way more gainy, again to my ears. This amp is RAW! In the best way..
Hi Michael. Love all your vids! Top notch!! But this one tops the lot! Is it possible to get a Fair Warning/1984 VH tone from this amp without using pedals do you think?
Now the question is... Suhr Riot or Sinvertek N5+ for Luke style tone? Which one is the Lukest without the CAA amp? (I love the SE+/Kingdom Of Desire era)
A Boss SD-1 in front of Ch2 is perfect for tight 80s tones. And of course the Maxon SD9 for Landau style thicker single note stuff. Other standout pedals with this amp (I've tried a few) are the Vemuram Jan Ray, Roger Mayer Voodoo-1, DAM Red Rooster, MXR Variac Fuzz and Skreddy Hybrid Fuzz Driver. Also you can get good low volume sounds if you run a jumper cable (if you don't run effects) in the effects loop and turn the back panel Return volume down and turn the front panel Levels up. Michael if you're on Facebook we'd love to see you at the CAA users group! facebook.com/groups/874551106291270/

Which song is that riff from?
@@tube33139 The song is I'm Buzzed but check the entire album out its great.
Hats off. That intro solo was taaaaasty. Tone & soul for days.
It's Michael Landau's I'm buzzed !! A TASTY TONEFUL SOULFUL TRACK !!!
“I’m Buzzed” nice vid Michael!
Mikey!!!!! Dammmmmmm fine playing. Landau would appreciate the nod. Fantastic episode as per Always. Happy New Year Brother
No butchering in sight. Sounded amazing.
The playing is tasty I just smile and close my eyes and feel the music.

outstanding.. that Landau riff was the first thing I ever heard from him a long time ago... very nice work sir!
Gosh Michael, your playing consistently gets better and better. Really well done video, keep shredding my dude.
Your playing and phrasing on that solo was a pleasure to listen to. Playlist when driving for sure.

great tones!! I love "I'm Buzzed", great job on that. Nailed it!
A Landau riff and a Local H riff in the same video... HAHA thats so awesome. Love it.

Some of your tastiest playing Michael! These tones are so silky smooth, love that amp and that Vintage S.

Killer phrasing Michael!!! Really impressed with this video across the board.
Great playing...superb - the lick at 0:25 is sublime - beautiful, congrats...fuckin tone...whoa..

The amp that Reb was playing is PT 100, one of its Siblings, which is more versatile but slightly different. That one is also wonderful tho
@@Mold81 Yeah you're right it was a pt 100....An early version of it. I knew all this I just forgot . It's been years.
