“Maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey, and if that journey takes a little longer, so we can do something we all believe in.” Harry Kim - Endgame
I gotta disagree. While there's no way I'd choose Spock over Kirk in anything else - the fact remains that James T. Kirk is the first Captain, the one who started it all... and if there's one tradition that will always hold strong, it's that the Captain is always the last one off the ship. Coolness factors don't count here. Kirk should have the last spot. Oh, yeah. I'd have been happier if you hadn't had Spock doing the Vulcan salute. It would have been a stronger choice if you had used a shot of him with a tricorder... or with a Tribble!
CHASEMARC You're looking at it from the perspective of decades gone by, instead of what Roddenberry and TPTB of the day dealt with. Read David Gerrold's 'The World of Star Trek', and you'll see how TPTB REALLY didn't want Spock and tried to marginalize him at every turn. Remember, these were the 1960s, it was all about 'the All-American boy saving the world' and there's also the fact that the show was never a big ratings-winner, having to fight to stay on the air each of the three seasons it was on. Granted, Nimoy is the fan favorite and no one denies him his place or influence upon the franchise - but first and foremost, 'Star Trek' is about a group of exceptional individuals with one out front... and none of that would have happened if not for Shatner. (P.S. - I've never been a real fan of Shatner or of Kirk, but I have to give respect where respect is due. Because of him, the position of a starship captain is an iconic one, and if we didn't have Kirk, there would be no Picard, no Sisko, no Pike... and even no Captain Mercer. At the end of the day, no matter how popular any other characters are, the Captain is the face of the franchise... even if that's Archer.
Seeing Leonard Nimoy's name last made me tear up... rest in piece, to the greatest actor of the 23rd century, and one of the greatest men to ever live.
I was listening to the timing of the music and I was like wait....is there someone else after Shatner....Jeffrey Hunter as the first Pike?? I saw Nimoy giving the live long and prosper and it took all force fields at maximum to not sob. Well done.
Nimoy getting the final billing is the best thing ever. Wrath of Khan is my number one favorite Star Trek movie. Spock’s sacrifice at the end, in order to save his friends, makes me tear up every time I watch it. Then they tried to one-up Nimoy by having Kirk sacrifice himself in Into Darkness. Both are noble sacrifices, of course.
I can’t believe this doesn’t have a million views… I watch every few months. Keep it in my watch later library and revisit whenever I miss my Star Trek.
Object. The finale is about celebrating all of the famous Star Trek captains. Everyone knows that Kirk is the Captain of the Enterprise. He should be the last and first on any list
I almost cried when Kirk was not shown last. I get all the love everyone has for Nimoy (and rightly so), but for me Kirk will always be my favorite Star Trek character.
For those few wondering who Dwight Schultz is listed with Denise Crisby, he's the guy that plays Lt. Reginald Barkley. And J.G. Hertzler was one of those man-of-many-faces guest stars they hired a few times each, with his most frequently appearing character by far being Martok, at first general commanding the Klingon forces, then chancellor leading their entire government.
Great job. I was just thinking, "hey, why haven't I seen a Star Trek credits video in the Endgame style", so I did a search. Found yours. Main quibble is I would have put Shatner last. He is, after all, the OG Enterprise captain.
@@julieeverett7442 I'm quite familiar with them. The first time I saw Avengers: Endgame, I thought, hey, the way they did the biggest members of the cast, with the signatures, is quite similar to the end of Star Trek 6 .....
Very well done! A glass of Romulan Ale to you! Cheers! It's also a full circle nod back to Star Trek VI, which is where the writers of Endgame mentioned that they got the idea from, and I knew it immediately in the theatre where the inspiration was from.
I got unexpectedly emotional watching this, mostly cuz that music is epic but also cuz Star Trek also has such an amazing history across different series and sometimed you forget it until its put into perspective.
Having seen several of these type of vids ..I think they are awesome and hats off to all who do them ...extra kudo points for having the actors signatures...two thumbs way up!!!!
You know what would make this better than it already is? Replace the Endgame music with the ending theme from Star Trek: First Contact/Picard S3. You could have the slow bit for the majority of the cast and then have the captains played off with the TNG theme. I know that defeats the point of it being in the style of Endgame but it is something to think about.
I hope someone does this for Babylon 5 but, to be honest, that will be even more bittersweet. B5 has lost so many of the people who were in their cast when it was running, most recently Mira Furlan :(
Phenomenal...i've watched it ten dozen times. LOL! I know you couldn't fit everyone and other "missed" actors have been mentioned but Chase Masterson as Leeta became a big part of DS9.
Don’t know that I agree with Spock being the face of the franchise, I believe that honor goes to Kirk. Still, well done celebrating classic Trek! We were spoiled during the 1966-2005 run.
You bet! STAR TREK did it first, so it's entirely appropriate that you do this in tribute. Nicely done, with the Original Captain and then Mr. Spock in their rightful places.
This is almost exactly what I had been looking for, and what an amazing edit! In my own version, I always imagined including Discovery, with possibly the main cast of Lower Decks and Picard as the list names close to the end, then rounding off the last big six as Sonequa Martin-Green, then Bakula, Mulgrew, Brooks, Stewart, and Shanter. But your own assemblage fits amazingly and I thank you for making it!
This is awesome! I hope once we get 40 more years, you can do another one to celebrate that too! :) Imagine if we reach 100 years of Trek, you'll barely have any spaces to fit everyone LOL
Ironic because the Russos got the idea to do this in Endgame from Star Trek VI.
I know, right!?
@@guyd085 why? Spock was the captain of the USS Enterprise in TWOK and was the "Tony Stark" of Star Trek (the face of the saga)
@CHASEMARC Spock was on TNG. So I kinda agree with you.
Yes, they did. The Russos said this numerous times. They even say it on the Endgame commentary without mentioning the movie directly.
Two words: Full Circle. :D
Rest In Peace:
Rene Auberjonois (Odo)
DeForest Kelley (Leonard “Bones” McCoy)
James Doohan (Montgomery Scott)
Leonard Nimoy (Spock)
