thank you for your support Nathan, and compassion. So cool to hear this and be able to share it with like fans! It is a lot of energy and time for sure. As I sit 2 weeks after this PT2, I can only wait to recoup the energy back to start PT2. I can not just plan it, but just feel it when I can start again. So yes, and thanks for that acknowledgement . cheers.
very cool Kurdt to let me know this. I so appreciate the comment and so glad that my delivery and style is clicking. It goes a long way for me to hear this! glad you enjoyed!! Part 3 is in process, a lot of there for me
Steve, your docs are so great, so informative. YT algorithm recommended your channel a year ago and Im so grateful it did. Thank you for reigniting my love affair with the Stones. ✌🇨🇦
I wish I still had mine. A friend gave me one in the 1987, that was 5-10 years old, and he though it was old and "outdated". I was like, "No worries bro, I'm glad to take this silly of pile of junk off your hands". It was the best sound guitar amp I've ever used, honestly. It made my Gibson knockoff Explorer, from Sears sound like a Les Paul. Nothing since has come close honestly, aside from an old Peavey Bandit with a Celestion speaker, but the amp overheats when I need it to work. I tried to get it fixed, but nothing works. Looks like I might be finding an old Mesa Boogie soon.
''Some Girls'', my favourite of the Ronnie era Stones albums and once again, Steve, you have done an excellent job of bringing the details and telling the story of it's conception. You are the master and I'm drooling at the prospect of part 2. Thank you for your time and love of this great band.
lol Trev, thank you, and for being so descriptive. A pleasure, and great to bring back my childhood 'turn ons'.....I was always the guy in school that had all the Rock magazines, and all the rockers gathered around my desk peaking at it over my shoulder as I turned the pages.
Like others, just watching, and this is remarkably fantastic. To hell with any of these dislikers, they are truly not Stones fans. Your coverage and details are spot on and correct. I learned a few tips already. The soundtrack, dialogue and footage is brilliant. Like you say, from a fan for a fan......and we fans needed something like this and love it! cheers my friend!
Everyone has almost said it all - THANK YOU "FlipSide"- I love Some Girls, and appreciate you keeping the band's history and stories alive. Great touch listing the session tracks and the songs that came out of them. Very fruitful.
As soon as i saw this upload i cancelled a prior engagement made a pot of coffee and settled down to another great magnum opus. Another superb creation Steve...many thanks yet again for all your hard and generous work.
Steve, once again, this seems to be the beginning of another masterpiece that you are gifting us with. I think you know, mate that I usually don’t comment till your finished . But I wanted to tell you that your making a great name which you deservedly are getting across the global airwaves. You don’t need my vote but you got it ,mate. Peace, Rocky
thank you Rocky, I do feel the support and the passion of the others from these docs. I am real glad to bring the goods and have it all worth while. Getting nice compliments goes a long way for me, and keeps me motivated to deliver. I am still taking a breathier until PT2, as the energy and time with these are intense. thanks for all.
"Liked" it without even watching because I know I will LOVE IT!!! THANKS MAN!!!! I am going to digest this over the next few days. YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you.
Best Stones doc that I've ever seen. Perfect time of year for it, too. Some Girls goes perfect with opening up the windows and doing some spring cleaning after a long, grey winter. Thanks! Can't wait for Part Two.
Steve, these are beautiful gems. Your passion and story telling for the stones is evident. The groove of these documentaries are truly addictive. Thank you for sharing these!
Wow, thank you Keith! Wonderful support and comments to keep me going, as this is one big challenge. These docs take a certain person, one that is more relaxed and absorbing.
Steve, second time around. again, incredible work and sensitivity related to the group and contexts. Ie Bill’s incredible bass contributions, Ronnies surreal slide or Hawaiian guitar skills. The fine detail in the band’s life you portray. The historical context.. your work is second to none mate! Once again, thank you , a real treat.
Thoroughly enjoyable, Steve. Nowhere will you find anything as comprehensive. This was truly an amazing era for the Stones. No other album has the same sound and vibe as some Girls. So many of those songs are in continuous airplay where I live. Thanks for doing this. Looking forward to the next installment.
I still got to get used to the channel name Paul. Thank you for those kind words and support. I felt a personal closeness to this one also and it delivered something so special. What I will be opening up with in Pt2 is saying how there was less drama going on and they were so focused on just kickin ass. Look forward to your work.. steve
@@FlipSideCT I forgot to ask earlier, but are you thinking about getting the Live at the El Mocambo album that was just announced? It looks like we are getting the full set from the March 5th show plus three track from the March 4th show.
@@FlipSideCT Its going to be a nice compliment to the Some Girls Live In Texas '78 set form the Vault series, which by the way is outstanding in case you've not heard it.
I watched half last night and the other half this morning. Of course your editing was superb. But I also enjoyed the photos and the videos. So many clips I saw for the first time. Outstanding work Steve. Looking forward to part two~ Rob/Boston
Great that its out! Nicely set up at the beginning with the changing times. A short period of massive change for me at Knebworth 76 to the emerging Punk/new wave scene capturing our youth culture at the time
thanks David.....appreciate you recognizing the format. all thought out! it was a very strange time, and hard for those not living it to feel it.....so it is a challenge to get the point across. cheers
Currently being enjoyed in Glasgow, Scotland. Keep ‘em coming, Steve - these in-depth rundowns are everything to Stones geeks like myself and many, many others.
Talk about "in depth"! Fans like me are fascinated with these details, and speaking for myself, the recording processes and details are the best part of it.... Thanks for these great docs on one of my favorite bands! Damn, I had some things I had to do before bed tonight and I made the mistake of turning this on. All I could do was watch, enthralled.
thanks Kevin for the comments. I can see you are a fan, as I would want to see something like this also. I felt this is the only way it should be done....from a fan for the fan. So glad you found it! .check out my others!! Making Emotional Rescue now.
Hello Steve; Another wonderful doc-u-drama on the Rolling Stones. Informative in the context of being a visual presentation for all to enjoy. Forget those who express distain or arrogance towards the project, let them attempt their own documentary. As forever Stones fans one cannot help but be amazed at the overall presentation. There is no way to measure the amount of time, effort, & patience needed to complete this documentary. The video is constructed out of admiration for this long surviving band. Explaining the ins, outs, ups & downs for what would become one of the great albums of the era. No documentary is ever 100% accurate, even when the director had access to the band during the events that transpired. Great job as always. Take care, Tina & Pat!~
Thanks T&P. Yea, right, I tell the neg folks to make their own. Most that I check have nothing in the channel and just judge and 0 creativity. Thanks for recognizing the efforts I put in...it is a huge undertaking. I hope to have (one day) a LIVE session to show folks how and what to do a DIY doc, so we can get more out there. thanks for all the support! cheers!!
Yo Steve. Look man, you rock! I have enjoyed watching each and everyone of your stones documentaries since the first one. There is definitely something special in all of them, this one also! You cover such a wide and vast area of the Rolling Stones. There are a lot of intricate and detailed stuff also! I really liked how you pointed out and highlighted all of the other stuff that was going on in the world during that particular time span. This is great, Steve. You know, this way a lot of very young stones fans can get a more broad spectrum, education, and a lot of knowledge about the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band in the world. I am 67 and I’ve been following the stones since the very, very beginning and believe me, I still learn some things watching your documentaries. I also like your other stuff to like the album and record finds also. I can’t wait for some girls part two. Well, keep rocking and rolling and I’ll talk to you again soon. Cheers, my friend! Philly DC
what can I say, that was a great comment read Domenic. Thank your for all that. I really treasure it when folks can dig what I am presenting and how I do it. I do not like to be a follower so making the docs in my style and having people click with me is worth it. We would sit, get high or drive around and talk Stones and dissect them in the 80's, plenty. As we all grew apart, I missed that and this brings me back to that time. It has been always about the turn on and what can I learn and what can I share. Yes, you are exactly in tune with my thinking. I am disappointed the Stones lost some of the guitar band playing and crunch RnR, but they deliver something different the past 30 years. Spreading the word and especially teaching younger and older folks how to listen to them is what I felt was missing. They are meant to be played loud and also with headphones to appreciate the beauty. As a vinyl geek, I do think listening on computer the younger folks do miss the real analog sound. Who knows. I might have Some Girls PT3 there is so much. Yes, I am glad you like the Vinyl showings.....that is my bottom line! What is interesting, as a side note....there is NOT much drama this time period. They had to play it cooler and safer. cheers
Hi Steve, I;m so glad you did one on SG. I haven't even watched it yet. Stoked! I saw them in Philly, and the Palladium on that tour. My first Stones shows. I traded all my rent $, and a Springsteen ticket for the NY show. We had just fallen back into the city after the Battle of Philly. The Palladium show had not been announced. Word in the city was that they were "not" going to play NYC; but everyone knew that they had to. "Miss You", was everywhere; in all neighborhoods. All the SG songs actually. The guy at 0:48 was a good buddy on the street of mine. A stone hustler. He was always with his best friend, who looked like Freddie Mercury. To this day I remember him saying to me "well I ain't no Bill Wyman", when trying to jojn our band as bass player. I think your clips are superb; all strung together we move through their golden era.
great comment and story here. Palladium....hmmmmm.....not much to say except wow! what a treat. I could stop right there. That is the ultimate in a smaller setting. Seen them all close up in smaller settings, but not all as Stones. I was so glad to find the NYC clips, and that scalper looks and sounds like everyone I faced. That June 78 was so big with Some Girls and the buzz in town was who is going. I will tell the story in PT 2 of the one guy at the Capitol. Most of my crew went to Philly, and I regretted not going.....I do not remember why not. But cashing all your chips in on this, was so worth it. Kudos for you to have the drive to figure it out.....and Bruce was hot then in the area. thanks for your support and all.....cheers!!
@@FlipSideCT It sounds like we did close to the same thing. We lived ion top of a record store on 2 Ave. and they organized a bus to go down to Philly. There were 4 of us. between us we did not have one single ticket. But good faith. On ride down, the guys from the store raffled off 3 tix, and I swear to you: we won all 3 ! Now, years later looking back, I wonder if they let us win because we were little kids, haha. Philly was crazy! Palladium and Patti, was a great show, but I was so tired, and so high... I tell you, re smaller settings: I saw the Stones in '81 in the Atlanta Fox. Best show ever. Probably 125 degrees in there too.
I often find myself thinking I should dive deeper on the Stones and what I know... well, there's none deeper than what you do, Steve. As always love your narrative voice and style and especially love the diversions into all those unsung heroes like Sugar Blue and even Mesa Amps!! Brilliant stuff all around, thank you for all your time and effort, Steve. They bring us a riveting show. Cheers- Dean
Hi Dean, hoping all is well with you! Living 20 miles from NYC in 75' getting introduced to the RnR and crunchy guitars is what we were brought up with, it stayed with most of us. I always felt folks did not listen to them properly or had crappy systems. Listening with headphones or cranked up loud is how they are to be heard. Not light listening. Which many folks miss. Give them a listen with low soft light on a Friday eve with headsets. It will come to life. thanks for your support and kind words as I appreciate it when cool RnR folks like yourself appreciate it. Yea, I have to bring in more then the Stones in these docs to enlighten folks more ie Sugar blue / Mesa it does help break up the doc and bring it back full circle. All strategically done. all my best my friend! steve
so sweet to hear this. thanks for acknowledging. I am a fan, and made this for the fan, as I knew what they wanted and needed. Enjoy them and keep it going and spread the good word. I am now working on Exile Part 2. very deep stuff with great info....cheers
I think a different kind is such a great stones groove. Wish this would be released on the some girls reissue or hopefully something in the future. Just love it
@@FlipSideCT appreciate the work on these. BTW, the woman in the free Keith shirt in Toronto was my neighbour. Great lady from a great family. For future Stones docs, got any plans to visit the Brian Jones eras? Lots of key mini areas to explore that really set the table for years to come. (The first 2 years, Andrew pop era, 66 and Jones instrumentation, 67 and all the mess behind the scenes, 68-69 Keith takes charge
@@deeg8849 I am more fond of the 68'+ times....I do not DISLIKE the early years, but I just do not care for the sound quality of the guitars. Just my quirkiness. I do not care for many of the 60's sound overall. So I never dove into it. However with that said, if I could go back in time, I would go to 62' to witness London. I did consider SanMajRequest, but I listened to it closely again, and it does not give me the drive yet. but my biggest concern is time. Diving into this period would require me to research and read much more. I do not have that much time for that. I have so many books to read. That would be the main reason for holding off on Brian era. I am going to read the Anita Book, so I thought 'maybe' to do a parallel of Anita/Stones/ Brian. However, bottom line, I think I need to still fill Beggars/Sticky. hope that helps
Great work as always. I've read a few Stones biographies but always come away from these videos having learned new things. Glad you picked this record for a deep dive. It's like the neglected stepchild of their great albums, which for me would everything from Let it Bleed through Goat's Head, plus Some Girls.
Thanks CAE, appreciate that! The bio's are good. I got sucked in to one that I found the writer (Tony Sanchez) was out to harm Keith with BS. So, I am careful. Glad you pick up some facts. I honestly can not see how a Stones fan would not dig this album. It is flawless. cheers
Just found your channel, Some Girls has always been my favorite album. And I have to say that I was not even through half of the video and had already decided this one of the best doc's I've seen of these guys.
Welcome aboard! thank you for commenting and letting me know this. It is from a Fan for the Fans. The only way to do it. A passion, as we all get it! Hope you check out the other Docs!! cheers
Yeah Steve! Remember all of the variety and diversity in The Muzik Industry back in the 70s. "Something for everyone!", like you said. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED!!! I try my best to keep the soul in the Rock N' Roll with my Djinn Magik Muzik Attraction. I can't wait to see your brand new documentaries. AWESOME WORK MAN 😁💖🎶
sorry for the response delay, just seeing these now from RUclips. thanks for commenting. Much more diversity in 70;'s even the long sophisticated songs folks complained about are great to hear! just posted an update on ER PT2....cheers
Oh wow! Some Girls. For me, the Stone last great album. The songs were great and the interlacing of Keith and Ronnie's guitars were superb. I have have watched Some Girls Live in Texas over and over. Thank you for producing this series. ❤️ As always, your meticulous curating and connection of media fused with interesting and thoughtful narative creates an enthralling story that luckily makes time seem to fly by leaving me wanting more. Thanks!
ahhh, a Stones head...nice! thank you for the kind words and totally getting it. We are in it together. I am blown away everytime I hear this album. cool that you watch the Texas show plenty. I played it on a 10ft screen and sound system speakers and was tingling for days. It rocked me hard, like it must have you. Part 3 is working on now. looking real good! over 2 1/2 hours, and going.
I just gave this another skim through Steve. Not only did you do a great job with the research and all. In the seventies I thought that I was pretty keyed into the Stones. But after watching this it reminded me of how little I really knew about the band and their music. Just the part when you were talking about the amps volume, sustain, etc... I did know that Keith was using a phase shifter for songs like Beast Of Burden and Shattered. You can clearly hear it in the intro of BOB. So detailed Steve~ Rob/Boston
Great Rob to hear you! miss ya!! So glad you were tuning into the tech stuff......that to me is worth it, and exactly what and why I want to bring that out to folks. I knew most of it, but loved the Mesa Boogie info, and history. That is info I really hope did not fly over folks heads. But to a geek like you, you got it! I really tried to find out how Keith decided to tap into a Phase. I came up empty and that is the one thing I would love to ask him. I won't say they abused it, but did it tastefully.....and Chris K knew what to do. thanks for being there!! Steve
lol, thank you Keith....I have to agree Keith. I wished someone would have done this prior....I would love to watch one on the early Stones, which I lack plenty of knowledge on. But thank you!! appreciate that!
What a rich and interesting phase of the Stones career. This is a fascinating dive in the roots of everything that later gave us Some Girls. Thank you so much Steve for you hard work in bringing this alive for us. I simply can't wait to hear the next episode.
a pleasure Steve, thanks for leaving the comments. There are many that know and just as many that don't know about this time frame. working on PT2, but in time.!! cheers
I love your attention to detail, rare photos, even talking about the equipment they used, it makes you feel like you experienced Stones history with them! You have done some amazing work!!
so well appreciated, thank you for that and noticing my efforts. I know we fans were missing a lot of details. Some folks know it and some share it and some do not. I felt a lot of folks do not know, so it is all about the TURN ON...and what my YT channel is about. thanks for the support
@@FlipSideCT well it's appreciate here as well because the Stones are apart of musical history and they helped expose people like me to things like great photography, the art of Andy Warhol and his graphic design work, artist management and representation, and all the musicians who worked on albums with the Stones. Learning about Ry Cooder, Nicky Hopkins, and of course learning about Sugar Blue was a real blast! His opening on Some Girls wow!! Even your discussion on Love You Live, the artwork, the Warhol involvement and how that album was created was such a fine crafted story. I hope you'll cover more albums from Aftermath, Their Satanic Majesties Request, Tattoo You and because of your channel I now appreciate the album Still Life (American Concert 1981) I remember watching a VHS tape when Keith swings his guitar like a club at fan who rushed the stage ! Again, thanks for the richness of this channel, the Stones have been in my life since 1996 and I still love them and this documentaries are all pure gold!
@@DMCcreativesolutions well put, thank you!! understood totally. I hope to dig in more....there are gaps in the pre Beggars for me, so it would take me a much longer time to figure it out. I love ALL Stones all eras...just do not listen to the Brian era as much as I am a melodic/weaving/crunchy guitar fan. I have more to do on educating myself before I feel confident enough to deliver the solid goods. thanks again for the support!!
Another fantastic video. I was seventeen in the summer of 1978 when a friend and I drove from Fort Worth, Texas to see the New Orleans show. We stayed in the French Quarter and after the show it seemed like half of the Superdome descended on Bourbon Street to party the rest of the night away. We got back home only to have the Stones announce a surprise show at Will Rogers auditorium in Fort Worth, Texas! It was next to impossible to get tickets but we went down there anyway to try to get in. I stood there and watched as one of my female classmates was given a backstage pass.
great story Douglas. I graduated HS then, and know your thinking. I did not go to Philly though as all my friends packed and went. But so cool to have gone and seen them at the Superdome. I never stopped and thought about the after party.....wow....all Stones heads. That would have been fantastic to witness. Ft Worth, at least you tried. How painful it is to see a lady get that pass unless it was for other reasons. thanks for sharing! thanks for letting me know!
I was sick for some time but im on the mend now and I can watch and listen to these again.. can't wait to watch the next to episode's of this collection.. thank you so so much for making these wonderful documentaries.. there absolutely fabulous.. the stones should get InTouch with you to do an official run of album documentaries .. it would be incredible..not that these aren't fantastic but it would be great to have extra material or unused material that you could put in them
Glad you are back in action....and able to watch! A pleasure to make these. IF something big comes along from making these, so be it, that would be gravy for sure! ......I just am going for the ride of pleasing others and enjoying that folks are digging it. Yes, if I can only get access to more material.
Steve you have done it again!! This is one of the most valuable of your docs to me. A great transitional period! Thank you for yet another qualitydic Jeff Johnson
@@FlipSideCT One of my favorites if not the favorite. It has a certain energy. I actually like Emotional rescue also. Some stones fans say to me "that is bs stones" haha I have to disagree. I am not sure what happened (possibly Toronto) but even after the fact of "punk" the band took on a different stance. Not as much open G. Thank you again for all of your very comprehensive work!!
Fantastic! My Uncle owned a record shop in Bloomfield NJ and was very fortunate to see the Stones at the Capitol Theater in Passaic. Fun seeing the cover of the bootleg, Garden State 78.
He was a lucky one and had the connection, and probably did not have to pay much for his ticket. I grew up not far from Bloomfield, and probably was at his store at one time. Yea, GS 78 was all memorized when it came out! Still have my original. Glad you picked up on that!
I love this channel..!! So much Great Stones stuff, as well as I can learn about things I have never known before. The song "Claudine" , about the murder of Vlad Spider Sabich was totally unknown to me prior to watching this. What an interesting story behind it all. Thanks for posting such Kick Ass info on the Rolling Stones.!!!!
Het Tim, glad you can enjoy it, and especially share the comments. I know there are many folks that do and don't know about it....but I am glad to turn on those that do not! cool that you are finding other topics that you are picking up on....that is what it is about here. enjoy and thank you!
I discovered your Stones docs recently and can't stop listening. I needed a break from my podcasts anyway. Just finished your Goats Head Soup series and I can't wait to get home tonight and dig into my vinyl box set! I've always been a Ya Yas guy so gonna give Brussels Affair a hard listen! Love your passion. Thank you sir!
a pleasure BM it takes one to know one and I love the geeking out! Our blood just gets hot with this. Just crank up Brussels when you listen, but better, PLEASE listen with headphones and no interruptions. you may need a moment to catch your breath, but the ride is like no other. love it!!! let me know!
a pleasure, and you are welcome. I appreciate your acknowledgement very much. So many hours! SG is 6.5.....I do not think anyone will do more! I hope you check out the others I made...check out my Playlists, it has all the Stones docs there. In process now of working on a new one! cheers
Definitely will be watching all your videos, I am already subscribed to your channel. Thank you again for spreading the gospels of Mick, Keith, Charlie, Bill, Bryan, Mick T. and Ronnie.
I love the outside of A different kind it is a really great song a lot of songs from these sessions are so good and I find myself listening to them sometimes more than the album I used to just push play and fall asleep to them
Hi Steve sorry it’s been a little bit busy here. In the process of relocating to downtown Toronto. It is going smoothly if not a bit behind schedule. When I had some time off this morning from packing up my room I found this wonderful SOME GIRLS Doc you made! I hope you had as much fun making this as it is for us to watch and listen to! The absolutely love the build up at the beginning of it and then the small climax and sort of crescendo and plateau - the meat and potatoes of it - is when you come on and start to guide us through the time period very calmly and coolly step by step with lovely colorful details and explanation! 1977 October to end of 1978 is a period in Stones History I’ve always wanted to sit and listen to. Learn more about . Fill in many of the gaps I didn’t know enough about. It’s a joy to take a break and have this! I got a lot of energy and new fresh energy from this particular one....which I think is a very good reflection of that period for them. It’s very fitting that your doc on SOME GIRLS should also be like that. :) Congratulations you DID IT AGAIN!!!! And interesting little period with some of the other little popular musical styles becoming a bit of a friction or a tension against rock n rock and rock. Seems like to me the Stones did much to usher in the next era where DISCO IS DEAD and PUNK ROCKED OUT or SELF DESTRUCTED. We know from history that the stones ultimately didn’t self destruct. Some might say they even got better !!!! :) I love the energy from this period. I’m kind of a stones head as you say so I like to go as far as saying they did very much to frame and shape that whole late 70s and early 80s vibe.
Hi Greg, sorry for the delay....my YT comments switch was turned off. No wonder I was not seeing any. It surely makes my day when I hear these comments and hear the appreciation of the efforts. It is all thought out and planned, so this is cool to hear that the method works. I am glad you got the gaps filled, as I learn plenty. I am just so amazed on the lack of drama there was and not much to report on that. I just hope many can dig back into this like yourself and rock it again. I am having fun with making Part 3 now.....it is just a lot of time.....working on Miss You album song discussion took me 6 hours to create. oh well...still love it. They proved all the critics wrong, and put out a brilliant tour in 78'.....they kept it going!!
Well before I knew any of the history that period ( late 70s early 80s ) and those albums 78 SOME GIRLS 80 EMOTIONAL RESCUE 81 TATTOO YOU just seemed to exist in this beautiful space all it’s own. It’s up beat and it’s chilled at the same time. At the time, I knew nothing of the Toronto bust or any of the hassles and aggravations that had come just before that. I was vaguely aware that they had to go into the studio and really make an effort to put something down. That there was an atmosphere of a need for them to really come up to bat. I liken it to something like a baseball game. It’s going along not too bad. Suddenly it’s the World Series. The chips are down. The bases are loaded it’s do or die. Sink or swim ...we might face elimination....we have to come up big. We have to come up to bat! Time to put everything else aside and put the nose to the old grind stone - the pressure is on a bit to come up big - this not going to be just another one of our albums- the pressure is really on because deep inside one camp really wants us to SURVIVE and another CAMP is really WISHING US TO DEATH ....and they walk up there and HIT A GRAND SLAM HOME RUN!!! Out of the park!!!! To win the World Series! We proved our critics wrong and we proved our Stones fans right! ( and now there is even more of them and they are getting younger and younger ) And suddenly the music means more and the fans mean more and existing means more! It’s become like a CAUSE. Don’t like the stones die. Don’t let Keith die. Don’t let Keith go to jail. Let’s go buy their new cool album! ( which I think became their best selling album ) and cool they are on Saturday Night Live Now! A new 78 US tour is going to start now promoting their new album. ( their last 75 US tour didn’t promote an album ) It’s like a fresh new start! They got another chance. And came up big! I feel it was something like that! They must have really put their noses down to the grind stones in autumn 1977. What I understand is that they worked hard on black and blue and they worked even harder on some girls. Not long ago I listened to Keith saying that Tattoo You was made differently from SOME GIRLS. It had some good material from years past too. Tattoo you was more laid back and less pressure ...while SOME GIRLS was like going into the room and you either make the album or you die trying. From that period I can hear a lot of aggravation and frustrations being relieved and resolved ....coupled with a self assuredness. And a young youthful high upbeat energy. I hear this on songs like waiting on a friend and when the whip comes down and of course on beast of burden . Just my imagination, too. SOOO COOL!!!! They redefined themselves while remaining very purely STONESESK and true to themselves at heart! :) That’s an out of the park grand slam home run if I’ve ever seen one ! And they sort of made it look easy and cool ! Like they had fun doing it too ! They had soooo much drama just before that ....they must have been sick of it so I’m not surprised to learn that you found very little in the way of drama from that period of October 77 to 78. 1979 again there was a bit of unfortunate drama again wasn’t there with Anita and that kid that shot himself with Keith’s gun at their home. Luckily Keith was away. More and more I see him as distancing himself from as much of the drama as possible. And during the making of some girls I think or I understand there was a concerted effort made to Keep Keith ‘clean’ and therefore minimize distractions and temptations to a minimum. While getting a lot of quality work done as soon as possible. I think mick and some of the others like Ian were really driving that to be productive....to get in the studio and be productive..... ( not Ian’s favorite sound however ) and Keith just got behind it. I think it was a relief for Keith to get busy again. Focus on the music focus on the writing and playing and recording and focus on the live tour coming up! That was still is his life blood and when he got off the road he usually become a junkie in his own words probably starting from 1967. That time between tours in 1977 went altogether differently and it was probably a huge relief for him to get back to working on a new album in the studio ahead of a new 78 US tour ( but right on schedule- every 3 years ! they didn’t miss a best despite everything that was going on with the bust and cleaning up! ) and I think we can hear that in the albums between 78 and 81. Those seem like a very fresh new energy to me! I can really hear it on SOME GIRLS. When I read up on all the gaps it gets dull and disenchanting for me - like over kill - but when I watch your videos on the same gaps and details you are filling in it stays fresh and alive! And it’s a bit SOOTHING to hear your voice commentary on it!!! To be honest !!!! By your treatment of it... It doesn’t come at you like a stream of facts and information. Your treatment of it still contains THAT REAL COOL ROCK AND ROCK N ROLL punchy yet COOL laid back vibe that ROCKS and SWINGS!!!! It’s very soothing to get it in this way! And it remains true to the vibe! I love how we both recognize that October 1977 was a new period for the STONES. These common little understandings ( yet very important understandings about the historical time line ) make it great ! It’s great to realize someone much more knowledgeable about the stones thinks the same way! :) It’s kind of like a great really cool confirmation loop. Yeah October 1977 was a totally new period for the Stones. I also loved in a previous video how you documented Keith and Ronnie visiting that Gibson guitar factory in 1975 while on tour in the US. And they lit up cigarettes at the end ! SOOO COOL !!!!!
@@gregdettling6693 all I can say is, "nice response and follow up, you get it!". there are many many millions of us which is a family.....some know so much more. I met someone in 89' who was sickly geek, knew everything about every boot and show, but never or wanted to see them live. He taught me a lot and made me tapes. I invited him to hang and watch us jam one night, and as quiet as he was, did get up to sing Sway! My point is, it is all about sharing knowledge and details so we all can learn. there are many folks who measure their loyalty by how many they seen them. That is Time and Money, that is what all that is about. I noticed many of these folks have no interest in my docs or never commented to tell me. Being I am able to bring it, I feel I need to share it so we all know about them. Like I keep saying, it is all out there, I just know how to compile and present it... so thank you! Keith was back on the stuff in Paris, but kept is lower key. Well Tattoo You was an album to put out so they can tour again, so Chris collectively gathered the songs recorded prior and got them to polish them. But yes, Fall 77' sessions started a new and relaxed phase.
Hi Steve, Very sorry for the delayed response. First of all thank you for your compliments. Those always feel so good coming from you. Second, yes you meet that type in life where it’s all about the money and the time and quantity to them. It’s a very materialistic thing for them and some of them are very brash and egotistical and judgmental about it. Some aren’t and it’s just their thing and they are just materialistic about it. And that doesn’t just go for stones fans but in many areas and hobbies and walks of life. Definitely I think there is that ‘type’ Each to their own I suppose but hell there seems to be a lot more to it than that. Sometimes I thought if they might be missing the point a bit but then I thought well each to their own and well I’m not really like that camp. And I’m not part of that camp and I hope I don’t become like that because I don’t think that would be me. I’ve seen the Stones live 3 times now. 1st time 94 about mid range. Right in the middle. That was Edmonton. Loved some of the voodoo lounge songs live! :) Second time was 2005 Toronto. Got close up seats for that one and it was great to see the band that close! I had no idea the stage would move out on tracks! It came as a complete surprise to me. Wow ! That’s why those seats cost so much ! But you know Steve I think once was enough. The last time was 2014 Tokyo and nose bleed seats for that one! But it didn’t seem to take away from it at all. I kind of liked having that wall behind me with only one row of seats. Gosh we were so far back. But the sound was good and loud and very clear and deep during the second half of the show. So if I had the chance again I’d like to go with nose bleeds again or mid range. And NOT in Toronto with that sky dome closed. It was kind of hot and humid and stuffy in there. But it was great to see all the band members only 6 or 12 feet away. Keith made direct eye contact with me.....that was kind of weird for me and also a bit personal. I will say I felt slightly awkward when he did that. It was like he stopped and seen something in me. That’s enough for me I’m done! Haha That’s close enough! Haha You know that’s what I felt later...we are all just like a sort of cool groovy family... I’ll say the staff at Toronto we’re not so nice there. But they got to keep order I suppose.. The sound of the music was definitely better much further back though I thought. I think I’ve done my thing with live shows and if I don’t get the chance to see them live again I won’t regret it that much. Kind of satisfied with what I did get to experience live! But that said I suppose it would be COOL to see them one more time LIVE with a hot chick that was really into it and a real Stones Head! That would be super fun and super cool I suppose! :) Thank you for telling me about this.....Keith was back on the stuff in Paris while working on SOME GIRLS. I wasn’t clear on that. But shit smoking cigarettes is really hard to quit for good and any hard addiction really so I totally think I can understand it! I feel a great sympathy for Keith on that front. But he got completely off that stuff in the end! That’s not easy to do and he did it! So I suppose maybe it was 78 or 79 for him after all. I read one time that he quit horse in the year of the horse..... 1978. Then I thought really ? And I’ve been looking for some hard evidence on that ever since. Speaking of injections....I got my first Pfizer last Saturday. It’s Tuesday here now. So it’s been 3 full days .....just over 72 hours. No fever no f-k all . Arm is a bit tender that’s all. Feel really full of energy. Maybe even a little bit too much energy. I’m supposed to try to relax they told me. I think I might even use your documentary to try to chill out a bit more tonight. This one the SOME GIRLS one. This album I think is good for long drives and also for driving in general. Good to have on in the car! At least that’s how I was able to ENJOY it the very most! But as a kid in the early 80s or maybe very late 70s I heard some of those songs my first time in a car so maybe that’s why I think so. BEAST OF BURDEN I really like that one and MISS YOU and WHEN THE WHIP COMES DOWN and of course JUST MY IMAGINATION. I used to use this album on a tape during long drives in the Canadian Rockies. It made it into kind of a cool trip each time. I like the head space this album puts me in. I don’t know..........kind of like a really good mood! No hassles or aggravations! :)
@@gregdettling6693 Hi Greg, sounds like you are in a good place. Nice to hear that. Thanks for sharing you comments and experiences, I read it all. Glad the docs can help you relax...and if you have not yet, get the El Mocambo 77 release, it is fantastic...I hope to do a review on it.

Steve, I have been holding off from watching your take on Some Girls for some time. Just needed to get in the right frame and the right time. Tonight was the night and I just wanted to say, thanks so much for the incredible work you put into this. Mind blowing! I really loved the part of MESA and the Boogie amps. The detail just on that alone is worth a whole documentary. Anyway, will hit Part Two and cannot wait. Thanks again for all the effort and care you put into these projects. It is truly appreciated. So glad you waited to find the right time to watch it. It does take focus. Cool that you can appreciate the Mesa details. I take a lot of pride to make this worthwhile and have folks walkaway with something. I am sure some did not care of the geeking out on it, but I know there are many that do. Thanks for letting me know your comments and support. Enjoy Part 2. I am working on Part 3, 30 min in, and I have so much more to go. cheers!
yahhhh! remember when that came out, and we watched and watched it. We had no other real connection to them, and getting anything was a treat. It was well done and fun! The Some Girls comment is only on Rewind, and I am still trying to find out what else the interview had. can not find anything else on it.
I would agree, as I got tired of the BS out there. I knew fans needed something more real. Thanks for the support! hope you enjoy the rest!! got to spread the word!!

This is THE source for the most detailed stuff on the Stones! My man, you do absolutely amazing work, appreciate ever second of content provided. I love this shit, but hey, It’s only rock-n-roll ❤️👍
Thanks again Steve! Love these docs. I have to add: I really miss Charlie and can’t seem to listen to the Stones , without hearing his driving beats like never before. No one can replace him! I guess I took him for granted without knowing it?
Thank you Donald. It is very sad to think of him as we listen. I agree. I can not and do not want to think about the others. Inevitable, yes.....we have to mentally be prepared. As when they are gone, yea, we realize what we had. cheers
Nice job! This is the album I found out who these guys were, 7th grade and started playing a guitar and enjoying the Stones.....yeah that was a great year for me!
@@FlipSideCT I hung out with a few older guys. I was already a Beatles fan by osmosis. I had two older sisters. The Stones and all that good stuff was always playing in the background on top 40 radio. Then in the summer of '74 Hot Stuff, Fool To Cry and Memory Motel we're blasting on every radio in my beach town. I was hooked! Hand Of Fate is my favorite track to this day! P.S. I took a photo with my wife outside The Memory Motel in Montauk a few years ago.

@@Spectres-VII I love you too much, 2011 version from Don Was reissue. thank you!!
Looks like I might be finding an old Mesa Boogie soon.
good luck with finding one....I can't even wonder how much one is now
''Some Girls'', my favourite of the Ronnie era Stones albums and once again, Steve, you have done an excellent job of bringing the details and telling the story of it's conception. You are the master and I'm drooling at the prospect of part 2. Thank you for your time and love of this great band.

They had to play it cooler and safer. cheers
Great timing! A new tour announced. El Mocambo 4lp box coming in April, and your new documentary. Happy Monday indeed!
Where did you here about the box set?
@@Fuq2 yes, not planned at all. I am more interested in the El Mo show.....next month. It is on FB where I saw it
Hi Steve, I;m so glad you did one on SG.
Hope you check out the other Docs!! cheers
@@FlipSideCT I most absolutely will, in fact I still have my browser window open from it last nite to watch the next one, lol .
Im 59 and this is my favorite stones album of all time. thanks
We have some great memories of it!!
One of the best albums made not only by the stones but ever
just brilliance, and nothing will come close to this! we are lucky to have witnessed this!
I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again these are the best Rolling Stones documentaries
thanks again Don....I wish more Stones fans would watch them, surprised, as I think many could learn a few things.
As soon as I saw this I knew I would be watching this after playing my gig. Fantastic. Thank you!
I good way to feel the groove. thank you!
Oh wow!
I stumbled upon the Goats Head Soup docs last year and loved them. I didn't know there was MORE! NICE!
good...look at my channel videos.....there is plenty to enjoy and learn about. glad you came back
I just gave this another skim through Steve. So detailed Steve~
Rob/Boston
Great Rob to hear you! miss ya!! So glad you were tuning into the tech stuff......that to me is worth it, and exactly what and why I want to bring that out to folks. I knew most of it, but loved the Mesa Boogie info, and history. That is info I really hope did not fly over folks heads. But to a geek like you, you got it! I really tried to find out how Keith decided to tap into a Phase. I came up empty and that is the one thing I would love to ask him. I won't say they abused it, but did it tastefully.....and Chris K knew what to do. thanks for being there!! Steve
Watching MJ onstage in slo mo is always a earthly delight!
lol....oh yes!!! folks miss his mannerism's in real speed, it is fun to watch slow. He did so much finger waving this tour.
What you're doing may well be the most important documentary series ever. Shit hot bro
lol, thank you Keith....I have to agree Keith. I wished someone would have done this prior....I would love to watch one on the early Stones, which I lack plenty of knowledge on. But thank you!! appreciate that!
Stone alone book by Bill. The best rhythm section ever. It is just a fact. Very disappointed with life
What a rich and interesting phase of the Stones career. This is a fascinating dive in the roots of everything that later gave us Some Girls. Thank you so much Steve for you hard work in bringing this alive for us. I simply can't wait to hear the next episode.
a pleasure Steve, thanks for leaving the comments. There are many that know and just as many that don't know about this time frame. working on PT2, but in time.!! cheers
Hi Steve from Wales. Another great video. Thanks a lot. Looking forward to part two.
thank you Stephen..you are welcome. a pleasure!
Hi Steve: Looking forward to this video. I will have to watch it after work. Rock on! - Heather
hoping it delivered for you Heather!
As usual just fantastic „museum grade“ doc, gold for true fans , thank you as always!!
a pleasure Paul thank you as always! someone's got to do it.....for us!
Thank you! Fantastic! Waiting for part 2>
you are welcome....trying to figure out how much content to do for PT2.....maybe a PT3, who knows. But taking a break! thanks
FlipsideCT Documentaries are the best !! I love watching them !!
thank you for that....a wonderful comment, and so glad to be able to deliver.
The first album I bought, have to say I made a great choice.
Thank you Steve these doco r great.
you are welcome! an easy one to remember as your first. thank you!
Thank you for yet another qualitydic
Jeff Johnson
cool Jeff, I think this one touches many fans. Flawless album and personal to many. glad you enjoyed...thank you!!
Thanks again! These are great docs that set the perfect tone. By far the best I've seen on the subject.
great to hear that, and I am extremely proud of it, but more grateful that folks dig it and dive into the subject and content. appreciated.
Don't forget to play "Street Fighting man" from London from the 1973 tour...EPIC! Seek it out.
Oh man its Christmas morning!!!......A new FlipSideCT Stones doc!!
ahhh nice....glad to deliver the present!
I have 3 words only…
You. Are. The. Man.
Ok. I couldn’t edit it down, but I tried, and couldn’t.
Thank you Steve.
lol, that works!! thank you for that. appreciate your support
Uh, that's four words.
Another wonderful and immersive RS doc' from you CT!..Looking forward to Pt 2!
TY! in progress....just so much.....the one thing noticed is so much less drama in these sessions.
Thank you for all the work you put into this documentary. I love all the behind the scenes tales and surprises. You are the man 🤘
a pleasure, and you are welcome.
Thank you again for spreading the gospels of Mick, Keith, Charlie, Bill, Bryan, Mick T. and Ronnie.
I love this! Scalping tickets, the Palladium, WNEW, it all screams Rock n Roll 70’s style 💥
thank you Sheila....scalping, we all remember that esp in NYC.
@@FlipSideCT Right? 😊 Last show I saw at the Palladium was Jerry Garcia Band.
@@samanthab1923 a good one....wished I could have seen Jerry. My last one was the original Pretenders......what a show.
@@FlipSideCT Pretty cool. Was just telling my 20 something son about Chrissie Hyndes & Ray Davies having a daughter. Kinks came on in the car.
"Talkin' heroin with the president / yes it's a problem, sir, but it can't be bent..." ; ain't nothin' changed since 1978 in that regard..
I was pretty sure this day would come. Such details. Great job as always. Thank you. Aloha

Thanks again Steve for another piece of Rolling Stones history. Awesome as always and fascinating.
a pleasure, appreciate your support and comments Stephen.
Fantastic superbly researched documentary. Real Rolling Stones stuff. The Stones should watch this to be reminded of how it's done.
sorry just seeing this now....thanks for your kind comments!! appreciated. Yes, I would love to have all the tools to make one for them!
Steve, this is amazing. I remember the announcement on WNEW radio to mail in for the NY show.
thanks Charles...I do not remember hearing it....just the aftermath. I wished I was more proactive then.
Congratulations you DID IT AGAIN!!!!
I love the energy from this period.
Well before I knew any of the history that period ( late 70s early 80s ) and those albums
78 SOME GIRLS 80 EMOTIONAL RESCUE 81 TATTOO YOU just seemed to exist in this beautiful space all it’s own.
( and now there is even more of them and they are getting younger and younger )
And suddenly the music means more and the fans mean more and existing means more!
( their last 75 US tour didn’t promote an album )
It’s like a fresh new start!
They got another chance.
And came up big!
I feel it was something like that!
They must have really put their noses down to the grind stones in autumn 1977.
What I understand is that they worked hard on black and blue and they worked even harder on some girls.
Not long ago I listened to Keith saying that Tattoo You was made differently from
SOME GIRLS.
It had some good material from years past too.
Tattoo you was more laid back and less pressure ...while
SOME GIRLS was like going into the room and you either make the album or you die trying.
That’s an out of the park grand slam home run if I’ve ever seen one !
And during the making of
some girls I think or I understand there was a concerted effort made to Keep Keith ‘clean’ and therefore minimize distractions and temptations to a minimum.
While getting a lot of quality work done as soon as possible.
I think mick and some of the others like Ian were really driving that to be productive....to get in the studio and be productive.....
( not Ian’s favorite sound
however ) and Keith just got behind it.
It’s kind of like a great really cool confirmation loop.
Hi Steve,
Very sorry for the delayed response.
Definitely I think there is that ‘type’
Each to their own I suppose but hell there seems to be a lot more to it than that.
Second time was 2005 Toronto.
But it was great to see all the band members only
6 or 12 feet away. Keith made direct eye contact with me.....that was kind of weird for me and also a bit personal. I will say I felt slightly awkward when he did that. It was like he stopped and seen something in me.
That’s enough for me I’m done! Haha
That’s close enough! Haha
You know that’s what I felt later...we are all just like a sort of cool groovy family...
Thank you for telling me about this.....Keith was back on the stuff in Paris while working on SOME GIRLS.

Tim
I am working on Part 3, 30 min in, and I have so much more to go. cheers!
I wore out my copy of Rolling Stones Video Rewind! So good to see that opening clip with Mick and Bill.
yahhhh! remember when that came out, and we watched and watched it. We had no other real connection to them, and getting anything was a treat. It was well done and fun! The Some Girls comment is only on Rewind, and I am still trying to find out what else the interview had. can not find anything else on it.

a real pleasure DM, thank you for your support, and appreciate that fans dig it. There is so much out there, I wonder what is it that I do not know! I will mention I Need You, but dont have much info on it. I hear a lot of Mick on this one also.
Incredibly researched. Thank you. Who needs the telly? 💚
thank you, thanks for letting me know you checked it out. I agree....! Smelly Telly also!!
Your content on the Stones is just Brilliant. Absolutely love it!!
thank you Nigel for appreciating the delivery and content.
This is THE source for the most detailed stuff on the Stones! My man, you do absolutely amazing work, appreciate ever second of content provided. I love this shit, but hey, It’s only rock-n-roll ❤️👍
There are some great sites out there, and informative. But thank you, that does make me smile and so glad RnR'ers are diggin it!

As when they are gone, yea, we realize what we had. cheers
Been waiting for this one flip side.Awsome job.Thank you
thank you Paul glad to have delivered! cheers
Nice job! This is the album I found out who these guys were, 7th grade and started playing a guitar and enjoying the Stones.....yeah that was a great year for me!
sounds familiar....a great one to kick them off with! This all we jammed to! nice!
Black and Blue made me a fan at 12 in the summer of '74. Now I'm a huge fan!
@@brianhassett1994 nice....so you had some older friends or brother or sister turning you on. That is how it went down.
@@brianhassett1994 It is funny how we learned back then, compared to how it is done now. I just wish there were more people finding out more about these great bands back then.
which is why I do the vinyl community vids....turn on to some bands that are not know.
seems like you had some good insights. cool to have seen the hotel.
Oh oh the king of the doc strikes again!thank you

@@FlipSideCT yeah 4 some reason I only ran across it by chance the other day,,I cant stress enough what a great job u do n the stuff you unveil that I never recall reading in any of the countless books on them
@@joeyoconnor3039 I appreciate that Joey! it goes a long way for me that fans are digging it. I am more glad to be able to turn folks on on info they do not know and share our Stones family vibe! thanks
This is a must see for a Stones fan or any rocker.
thanks for that Shawn. I think so also. But check out many of my videos on the channel....a lot of turn on's for the RnR. cheers
