Wow Steve. Those clips from the Godard 'Sympathy for the Devil' film were fantastic. I never saw it. But after seeing this I am not going to miss it~ Rob/Boston
Thank you for the whole series. As a long time stones fan I am familiar with some of this but I had no idea about the original lyrics to sympathy and sfm. Loving this and being on SS I can't wait to give you a small donation. Thank you again brother. Much appreciated.
a pleasure Richard. From a fan for a fan. Glad you picked up on these. Enjoy the others! A pre thank you for your gift. Please include your email so I can email PART 2 to you!
Always a 'good day' when a FlipSideCT Stones-related deep dive drops! Looking forward to this. And remember: this is The Stones' World and we are mere visitors!
Steve - I sincerely appreciate your research, compiling, and editing, all the amount of work that went into examining Sympathy for the Devil and surrounding events in Stones lore - Brian, the film, the various players to make it happen, etc. Brilliant! Love the bass, vocal, and guitar separation. The women giggling in the beginning of the song is perfect for what comes after. I'm glad they didn't edit stuff like that out. By the way, you have an engaging talk over voice. Thanks again and when the spirit(s) move you I am into your projects! - Rick
thank you so much Rick.....it is wonderful to read this. Not for any ego, but knowing my work efforts are appreciated. I myself enjoy learning it as I go. You mention several points, and glad you did. I did like putting the isolations of instruments in, as they give a clear idea of the sound. thanks for your support. cheers
Your research is meticulous and the narration is riveting. I have now watched all of the "Making of" series! Fantastic work. I was thrilled when I saw that you were doing Beggars Banquet. I love all the acoustic guitars on this album. This was an extremely creative time for the Stones and music in general. Thanks for all your hard work on this and the others.
Thank you Andy! nice comments and so glad you support these! I wished they would still do an all acoustic album, now more than ever! This timeframe is just mind blowing, and I wished I lived it!
this is such a superb video. To see the band working on Sympathy and the metamorphosis (pun intended) from acoustic to the version we all know and love was truly fascinating. Great work yet again Steve.
I not only enjoy your time and effort, but APPRECIATE everything you have posted! If things get better for me, Than l'll try to help you out with your efforts. Cant make promises, but either way my heart's with everything you share?✌️
Brother, thank you for all the effort and research you put into this 🙏🏽 I was 13 & had my first “everything” to this album when it came 21:36 out 😁 It is a masterpiece ! Still is my favorite stones Lp.
You have really set a new standard with your "Making of" documentaries. These are far and away the best deep dives into The Rolling Stones that exist - anywhere. Thank you for your efforts, they are truly appreciated.
nice to hear and see Luke, thank you! I would agree on the deep dives, there is nothing that has ever been deep like this, so I figured someone needed to do it!
Brilliant scholarly work here! This perennially beloved song will only be enhanced by the illumination you've cast upon its creation. Well done, and thanks!
Whenever we watched 1+1 in a theater, the whole audience would erupt in laughter at Micks vocal adlib " Boom boom, agit down!"😂 My guess purple pants looks like Spanish Tony or Chris Wood.
In the theater is all much bigger and those little bits are enhanced! LOL thanks for sharing, I believe it. Yes.....I do believe that is Spanish Tony. I realize that now more as I see him at Nellcote / Exile doc more, and will talk about him. cheers and thanks!
I love how you deep dive into the inspiration behind the songs and take the care to explain the history and nuance ANDyou do so without losing sight of the narrative
Also I’d like to compliment you on your near perfect narration - clear, and perfect speed , rhythm / great sound, and without filler or commentary so please continue with all the stones albums - I’ll get my arse over to your PayPal sir- well done
cool Jon. appreciate that feedback. All purposely done, to allow not only absorbing visuals / music / narration but to allow you to think! See my Playlists!! thank you!!
Hello once more friend, It’s the middle of the night over here Mick lol. It is 4.25am, I’m not sure what time this makes it over there in the ‘big ole USA’. I’m thinking that ‘good evening’ is likely to be appropriate. Thank you for yet another pukka presentation, as usual Mick, a genuinely riveting watch and of course… highly interesting. It’s easily identifiable just how much dedication and hard work goes into making one of these for us geez! I bought the album late - in 1977/1978 or thereabouts (I would be 20yrs old Mick. If I’m honest it was much later in my life when I came to ‘get it’ and appreciate the album. I kinda got to know their music whilst aquatinting myself with Let it Bleed, thinking to myself… ‘ I should’ve b***** well bought this one instead Mick ha!ha! Oh well, hey’ haven’t we all experienced this type of thing at some point in our lives? But there’s a lot in there, if one really listens and gets proper involved. So, it’s thanks again from me over here in sunny SE England (East Sussex as explained in my previous chat Mick re Redlands etc.). I’ve become tired and weary as my sleep is all mucked up, I hope this comment makes sense and I wish you and your family well geez thanks. Warm regards, Dave. 🇬🇧✌️
all the best Dave, thank you for your sharing you comments. This album was surely one that is not for a casual fan. The genuine fan, does know the greatness! Pt3 is a work in progress. Have fun in sunny East Sussex. I will, in Connecticut. thanks! Steve🌞
fabulous to hear that Jon....very cool! Very glad that these have been a positive experience! thanks for sharing and letting me know! PT3 is in process,
@@gatekeeperkane6732 of course, well deserved acknowledgment. Make sure I do have your email, as donators will be getting to view my next project first. I will need to be able to share the private link. but this wont be done until maybe December.
It’s Christmas in September. I just got home and was kinda bummed out after a hot day working all day and what did I find. FLIPST I CK….. so freaking happy. Told my family that they have to leave me alone so I can sit back and enjoy another masterpiece. God Bless you for all these wonderful documentaries. I watch them over and over. Thank you!!
very cool to see your comments Kurt! I am glad to hear that this can make a bad day turn good! It should be worthwhile and help your evening along! thanks for your support
Always a good day when a Flipside Ct comes out. (Even better when discharged from the hospital with huge fackin kidneystone). Ima gonna lay in bed Keef style drooling and watch as much as I can before nodding out on the legal pharmaciticals I came home with and some really good weed and hash. Gnite
blah....sorry to hear the Kidney Stones , I hear it is horrible! It sounds like the got the goods to ride it out and get a nice watch of BB also! enjoy! Steve
Congrats, its an honor and blessing to have the opportunity to step into a time machine and return to 1968 when I was 21 and to relive the experience of this groundbreaking LP, which for me along with LIB is my ultimate Rolling Stones rush. Your scholarship, research and oratorical commentary are worthy of cinema quality production and I believe that your work should be presented in the media of cinema. I actually enjoyed this piece more that J L Goddard's work. I'm anxiously anticipating BB Part III. Let's raise a glass to The Rolling Stones and to FlipsideCT.
Thank you my dear Rockin Bud friend! coming from deep from my heart and mind! So glad to have you as a TRUE STONES and RnR FAN! thank you for the wonderful comments and understanding and purpose of these DOCS. Your comments make me move ahead.....it is very cool to know I out did JLG! Part 3 is WIP, and going to be deep also! We will both get to relive the greatness! All the best, from the HARD WORKING PEOPLE. YAH!!!!!
Another excellent piece of work, thank you. Would love to know more about Prodigal Son while you're on this album. I'be always loved that song as well as Factory Girl.
Like so many others, love it! The lyrics/production/guitars/mick delivery are great to hear. I am waiting for the album like all of us, and thinking about doing a live discussion on it. will see though. I am sure you enjoyed the song
Thanks Guy for your comments. Sticky, yes. Exile, there is way to much out there in documentaries already. But I will say, I am going to make something related to Exile. But for donators at first. please check the others in my playlists.

I AM SUBSCRIBED, But dont know how to access other things you've graced us with...please help...sorry fo da caps...well not really... Lololo!! YOUR SHIT WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY... YOUVE ACHIEVED IMMORTALITY, MY SON!! MARK MY WORDS SIR THOMAS of the Sir Thomas Quintet...lol
@ Flip Side CT Yesss I think so too. This song is just pure genius and out of this galaxy! MidnightRambler has been called a Blues Symphony. I think Keith said that. 1968 in Italy Keith and Mick wrote it in a cafe. This is also a sort of Symphony for woo woo Maybe like a Rock n Roll mamba Symphony. We need to remember they had a rock n rock circus in mind by the end of that year. Their songs around that time I hear them as beautiful genius Rock Symphonies, around that time, if there can be such a thing. BIGGER BETTER and in YOUR FACE and HITTING YOU RIGHT OVER THE HEAD. Who could not notice their music that time ??? Tell me what’s my name !!!! And WOO WOO and that blistering high pitched guitar solo by Keith that just elevates off the record and cuts right through everything!!!! The philosopher Martin Heidegger would be proud of them for his concept of EXISTING AS ‘STANDING OUT IN THE HERE AND NOW! That music does that. It stands out as a genuine thing.
Re-watching your stuff. Man you dug deep into this Stones thing. On Street Fighting Man my favorite part is the strange sounds after the last chorus. Had to be something Brian did IDK
As I was watching Part 2 here, it dawned on me, that I think I forgot to THANK you for part 1 last time?!?! :O This series, like all you've done so far is classic, priceless and SO informational and entertaining!! Can't wait for Part 3. I've often enjoyed the age of RUclips, where you can just watch the Stones only parts of the One+One movie...and not have to be bothered by the Godard filler content, as I like to think of it. Haha. Thank you and have a GREAT day and weekend my friend!! The best to you and yours...hope all is well!! CC
always a pleasure my friend CC......thank you and you are welcome! I do feel this is priceless info. It is all there, but not compiled like this, which is the beauty here. I was really pleased on the content and pieces I pulled from Godard, but still gave a short but informative display of that tough to watch DeConstruction. Best to you also! all good....need a break now. But PT3 as expected will be sweet to do.
Great work as ever Steve! Jagger was always a big Cricket fan and fancied himself as a medium fast Bowler when younger (with a graceful run up.) I think he is a member of the MCC elitist cricket members club and has always enjoyed the company of "Toffs". Great that you concentrated on such a historic pivotal song from the album. Really looking forward to part 3!
appreciated you sharing this. It would make sense Mick was involved with many sports. I did not realize how far I would go with Sympathy.....it just kept on going, and myself learned plenty. Part 3 will be a blast. cheers!!
@FlipSideCT My first donation EVER for any RUclips channel, I’ve made just now for you.
I’m a broadcasting professional and every day I play your docs I’m astonished by your perfection.
I don’t know if it will be a real help for you, but never in my life, I would think that one day I will make an important donation, but maybe it will not. But I want to say to you that YOUR WORK MAKES ME SO HAPPY THAT I NEED NO DOIUBT TO PAY AS I WILL PAY ANY BOX SET COLLECTOR OR ANY GIG TICKET.
Thank you. I needed your work. Please, don’t stop.
I am Dan Kirchner, from Barcelona. Thank you for being as you are
Hola Dan, thank you for your kind words and especially support. I appreciate it all! I am moving on with these, as the financials are helping. As you can see, I have been putting my personal time into this, and it is a huge undertaking and organization all around. Keeping the momentum is important. As I always say, from a fan for the fan. It is great to see that this makes you happy. I know I would be as a fan. We need to keep the Stones going, especially with the younger crowd. Many greats are being pushed aside and lost. I will respond to your PAYPAL via MESSAGE. If you can respond back, that would be good. As I will need ALL donators emails. So I can email all a link, AS I plan to make a special doc for all of you as an appreciation. ETA for new project will be in a few months cheers steve P.S. been to Barcelona, I also stayed in Arenes De Mar. many years ago! loved it
Yo Steve! Hey man, jumping in here late again. I really love how you’re breaking this one down I’ve seen this sympathy for the Devil documentary in the movie theater. The very day it first came out. I’ve also seen so many different variations of it on RUclips also. Now, I really liked the way you presented this one. There’s a whole lot of information that you provided that was not in the original documentary. It’s great Steve! You are also providing a great service to our young fans that weren’t around back then. You know, a lot of people don’t even realize how many other musicians, people, engineers, producers, Assistant personnel, and such! You always cover it all. Rolling Stones, albums, tours projects, and stuff are always huge, massive things. You have it all covered Steve. Like I always said before, you even surprised me a lot of times. I mean, I can’t wait for part three, Steve.BTW, I heard some of the brand new stuff from the”HackneyDiamonds” album. It’s fantastic OK, then, Steve, keep it going then you are the king of stones docs! until next time. Cheers my friend!…PHILLY-DC.
Damn cool comments Domenic! more smiling as I read it! Sometimes I am not sure where I am going when I do these......but you basically covered my methodology and approach. First, glad you picked up on the Godard info. There is deep thought and a mission statement. Which basically says, to make it flow and provide as much as I can. Pretty much dead on also, as I am concerned with the younger audience and want to spoon feed them on the how/why's. So kudos to you for the always keen observations! thank you! Well when you mean "stuff" from Hackney Diamonds, that tells me more than the single. Great to hear that, Angry did not disappoint. I am thinking of having a live / interactive session to discuss the album maybe the day after release....depends how many times I can review it to get its feel! cheers my friend!
@ Flip slide CT That one is always hard to locate on RUclips for some reason. Maybe it hasn’t been....awww not very well known 1972 Jam video perhaps but it’s a gem. I love this old footage of them. Tonight when I get home I’ll see if I can find you a more exact title for it.
nice to point it out also.....yes, we surely indeed have give Nicky his due and shine on him. I just wished Nicky's solo work would have been brilliant as Stones material.
Hello again Steve, Walking through more history with you thanks mate. Although I'm unable to donate any money at this time, I really want to share just how grateful I am - and how much I thoroughly enjoy your presentations. I try to always write and share in the comments how much I love and appreciate your Stones work Steve (I think I called you Mick the last time I wrote in the comments lol). Something I'd like to add here if I may please re Brian and his substance abuse. I've read some time ago that Brian was using Tuinal (Barbiturate). As many of you out there may be aware, anyone using Tuinal will be unable to actually do very much, let alone concentrate enough to play an instrument. I'm just pointing out the difference between the types of drugs. That as Mick once stated... Brian was on the wrong types of drugs. Tuinal are handy for coming down from stimulants etc. - but a person to use them for their primary source of abuse will never be able to get anything much done. Plus, because of being incapable, also get on everyone's nerves. It kinda makes sense looking at Brian's decline I believe. Warm regards and many thanks again, Dave UK
Hey Dave, thanks for sharing your info and support! no problem with Mick. I am glad to share and hear from fans, ALWAYS!. It is important for me. I am sure Brian was a handful. I know of Eli Lilly F66. NEver ever took it. But my NJ druggie crowd in mid 70's were active with these. They told me 1 = a 6 pack of beer. They would take 3 or 4. I have no idea how or why. No idea how anyone can function. I worked in a pharmacy in early 80's and would remove the powder and create placebos for them. Not a proud topic matter, pretty sad when I think about it now. So I get it. The Mandrax Qualudes I know were big for London. cheers and thanks
DIDNT KNOW WHICH ONE, BUT PRETTY SURE THEY WERE : DOWNERS!! HELLO! WE ALL DID THEM ONCE...ONCE...THEN WE PRETTY MUCH GOT IT!! Like Sir Mick said "WRONG DRUG!!" HAHA...WHAT A FOOL...SOMEONE, ANYONE SHOULD HELPED BRIAN TO SEE HOW STOOPID HE WAS ACTING!!
The Godard film truly shows how hard and complex it is to make a powerful original song. The film shows how much time goes into arranging a classic original tune. I love it! I can relate because I too am an original Songwriter and Muzik Producer 🎶
yes, the magic it captured is priceless. We never get to see this, especially at this timeframe. You know then how hard it is to create! not as easy as folks think it is.
@Flipside CT Back in Toronto. Found a nice room quickly, this time around. Classes are going good. Everything is much better than last year. I got into town on September 1 found a room on the spot and moved in on September 5 . Started classes on September 7 It couldn’t have gone any smother this year around.
I rewatched PT2 for second time last night and was fully engrossed, next time Im in UK I'll be making a pilgrimage to Swarkstone, wish I could get one of Michael Joseph's Beggars shoots..it's good to know thanks to your work that I can step into your time machine and be there in the studio. looking forward to Pt 3..
ROCKINGBUD, you are a SOURCE of Stones magic! cool to hear the double viewing! I wish I can be with you at Swarkstone. Just to be on that turf is sacred! Stay in touch with that trip, will you! I am sure I will hear about it! :) Looking to start PT3 very soon, I am getting antsy now to work again. cheers!!
Steve, Our resident Stones-meister! What a week of unbelievable timing with the band. By chance I was coincidentally using an authorized Stones mug for my coffee this week, and what happens: the boys are interviewed live by Jimmy Fallon about their upcoming release on YT which I caught while watching the FIBA World Cup; they unveiled a new song (which I’m still not sold on it but no doubt it will grow on me); they absolutely blew my mind with the new video for the song; and you debuted Part 2 of the Making of BB! It was basically an official Stones Week, with more to come. Your opening shots from “At the Max” brought back amazing memories of seeing that concert in IMAX. I cannot believe that is over 30 yrs ago. One of my favourite tours and I didn’t even have good seats at either show. It was interesting hearing about the one/two degrees of separation for Terry Melcher to the Stones via Ry Cooder. Melcher is infamous due to his connection to Manson. If you want to really dig deep about Melcher and Manson, try reading “Chaos”, by Tom O’Neill who tries to uncover more about the CIA mind control experiments under MK Ultra. O’Neill makes some compelling points. The book was even mentioned on the “Disgraceful” podcast. You are so generous when you promote/expose other secondary characters in the Stones’ world who go unsung, whether session players, engineers, photographers, other podcast or YT channels, hanger-oners, etc. While those photos from Sarum Chase and Swarkestone Hall Pavilion are quite familiar, I must admit I hadn’t known the history of them, or who had taken them. That’s you, always teaching us something. Whenever I watch the JLG film “Sympathy for the Devil” I have to skip through whatever he was interspersing in the otherwise great documentary. I do prefer films over movies, but this is too pretentious, avant garde, and unintelligible for me. The parts with the Stones are similar to the recent “Get Back” series about the Beatles in the studio. I always find it fascinating to see how the sausages are made when you get to go behind the scenes. I don’t think I’d heard before that Brian could have been using heroin. The filming lights would definitely have changed the ambience within the studio, even more so once the studio caught fire. You did a great job finding so much coverage of the fire. As for the guy in the purple pants, my money is on Spanish Tony Sanchez? I also recall him in one or two shots in “Gimme Shelter” too. Split second cameos. Even when I was a teenager, I was always astonished at how deep the Jagger-Richards lyrics were, especially when they were in their early to mid 20s. It shows you how much better the education systems likely were back then, but it also shows you how expansive their intellectual curiosity is as well. Had you not pointed out how much Keef’s baseline in SFTD sounds like it could be from “Lust for Life”, I never would have picked that up, but the musician in you did. When you go to the recent Stones’ exhibits like the one for their 50th anniversary at the Rock Hall of Fame, or with Exhibitionism, you get to see the evolution of, or differences in Mick’s “devil” outfits since the 1989 tour on. They are all quite distinct but worthy of dressing Mick as Lucifer in their concerts. I wasn’t surprised at all when you said there’s more to come, ie Part 3, since you only addressed one song on BB, although it certainly is what many consider the definitive one from the album. It was very satisfying to see so many other contributors who understand your hard work, and the time commitment involved with your productions. While it may be a labour of love for you, it also is a sacrifice as it takes you away from doing other things. You have entertained us for many years, given us incredible pleasure, and some of us know that’s worth something on its own. Very salt of the earth. Let's drink to the hard workin' people. Cheers buddy.
a thorough enjoyable comment read, always the tops! Thank you, and you hit so many great points. YES!!!! That is Tony. Saw still photos! cool TY!! It figures it would be you to mention Lust for Life! nice to see you on top of it! I do not believe it was Heroin that Brian was shooting, I thought something else. I already got a Brian fan, trying to call me out on this. I had to direct her to the exact interview it was said. Not the first time, she is 90% angry. Thanks for the acknowledgements and support. Yes, such a sacrifice on my side. I can not read or listen to much outside music while working on these. Love your last comment!! TY. !!!!! cheers back
Fantastic Steve! I don't know how you unearth all these details. I knew the song was inspired by the book that Marianne turned Mick onto, but the detail you dug up on that is fascinating. I own that dvd (sympathy for the devil) Did not know they were reading from Eldridge Cleaver's book. So much stuff. Fabulous job Steve. Your comments on the song are so illuminating. We all have evil inside of us. All of us. I'm definitely going to PayPal you later this weekend. Thank you so much my friend
Thank you / Thank you Kelly. Glad to see your comments. Like many authors, it is all about digging relentlessly to find details that are out there. Books, Forums, articles, interviews are the starting points. Gathering the details is one thing, going down each topic's rabbit holes the next part. I had to read many articles to dig into Godard's side of things, and get explanations. Not just one article, but many, to make sure it holds truth. A huge challenge and undertaking. I have heard interviews of an author of a book I am reading, David Grann's: The Wager......he went and studied journals and articles on this great book's detail of a shipwreck in 1740 and compiled a book. Same type of model. Nice pick up on Eldridge, glad you are in tune with the details I put out there. The song comments, are just from the heart and ears, and as the musician you know allows us to break it down easily. Yes, our devil's will never subside in humanity. We never learned and will not learn. thank you so much for your support! I am so grateful for it! cheers my friend!
A pleasure and thanks for commenting and enjoying. I do recognize there are many out there that need some more insight and clarification, so I am glad to deliver it.
Even though I wasn't really interested in the Godard part, you kept me with it. The Stones took over my soul on July 26th, 1972 when Channel 5 in NYC showed "Gimme Shelter" twice over the weekend of Jagger’s 29th birthday. What bit into my soul was that I had just been to the barber that day...
good to hear. as a Stones fan, this is historic and one of kind exposure from the Film for the Stones portion. I can remember how rare it was to see Gimme Shelter, and we would travel anywhere. thanks for sharing
@ Flip Side CT This song reminds me of two things RUMBLESTILLSKIN asking the girl if she can guess his name. And around that same era there was the boxer Mahamid Ali yelling on video WHATS MY NAME? What’s my name is a great line. To me kind of those two things come to life in a great rock song.
It is one of the oddest and unique song creations in their catalog. So unique to watch and hear it evolve. That this was captured by chance on film is kismet. For some strange reason, this is the musical equivalency of Schrödinger's cat in my minds eyes. I can’t explain the why of that? I had only recently seen this footage in the last few years. I would occasionally see it and then it would get yanked quickly. Keith’s bass is pure alchemy, along with Micks supernatural voodoo yowls that conjure up a warning. The guitar slash’s like a blade while that upright piano propels you off the ground. A fantastic part 2 of a truly strange marriage of music and film. You can’t look away as the song is deconstructed from our collective memory and then reassembled and transformed better than before. It’s such a strange experience. It’s so familiar and simultaneously so foreign. Thanks again for a great documentary. You never disappoint! Cheers and big respect for all the hard work and insight. Looking forward to all the parts to come. It was the first RS record I picked up used and it still surprises me every time I play it. Cheers and thanks 🙏
thank you so much for your excellent comments. Very well said and to the point. bravo. Describes it all. Thanks for your thanks, and you are welcome. I really hope many others see it this way
Just found your great channel! Fantastic work. While watching PT2, I noticed that you have a still at 9:27 of a house you identify as Sarum Chase. It's not. This is actually a house in Redington Road (about 300 yds from Sarum Chase) and the picture dates from a time (about 10 years ago at a guess) when it was owned by an actor (his name escapes me!). It was sold to Tim Burton several years ago and has been extensively re-modelled by him. Sarum Chase itself has recently been the subject of extensive works over a number of years & it is now impossible to see very much of the house from the road.
Thank you very much for sharing and letting me you enjoy this channel. There are viewers who in the past point out things they notice, but they never open up with how they enjoy what I created first. With the amount of information I provide in each of these, there is a chance I mis-stated something. They never acknowledge my work effort or enjoyment of what I provided, just criticism. Your comments are the proper way to deliver this message and much appreciated and openly welcomed, so thank you. Would have been great if a STONES fan bought this, and opened it up for the fans, it is a historic treasure for us. thanks again for the info.
@ Steve Flip Side CT Sorry...Very sleepy now. Didn’t get food until late. That 72 RUclips Jam is going to have to wait until tomorrow. I kept not being able to find it so when I found it last summer I recorded it with my second iPhone. So I can get exactly what it is called for you. Others are easy to find from that same Jam session rehearsal. Tumbling dice Loving Cup Shake your Hips but this one is somehow just out there and hard to retrieve. What the heck....Let me see Googling Montreux Rehearsal 1972 RUclips should bring it up. If not then add part 3 to it . It starts out slow and then it just blasts off
@ Flip Side CT I had thought you may have not seen the one of those that starts off with Charlie’s drums and is mostly Mick T and Keith weaving on guitars. Mick T is quite good on this one but it isn’t just Solo and Rhythm. It’s definitely them playing together off of each other and weaving a bit. The others come up easily but this one often seems to be missed . And there are no vocals. Keith is sitting at first but as it gets heated up and sizzling Keith stands up to play. Bo-Diddly Guitar sound I think but sounds sooo Stones. Just wasn’t sure if you have observed this particular one. The others I’m sure you have seen. There is another one of Keith mostly playing with no vocals that is rather Bluesy or Jazzy I don’t mean that one. It’s the other one with no vocals. Starts out with a camera view of Charlie’s drums I think. From Greg
@ FSCT Jesus Steve is this documentary ever good!!! There is something funny about that damn song but I love it! You really made this one ( and the the making of that song ) come alive!!!
Hi Rob, no problem to ask......I really dug the tune, and so glad it was musically not overdone, lyrically good (Probably if I had to say an old tune brought out).....loved Keith's leads. but hoping the new album will not disappoint and done simple as possible.
Wow-thanks for making the world a better place with this labor of love!!! I would love to forward you a copy of the 1967 Signet paperback of The Master and Margarita. If that interests you please let me know how to proceed. Cheers-have a great 2024!!!
thank you Andrew, glad you enjoy this. Thank you for your offer, very much. I do not believe I would ever dive in to read that book. But thank you again!
Once again an absolutely wonderful study of the creative process… Well done and congratulations, Steve! Here’s some discussion point observations 1. Although the film “One Plus One” was much derided, it was, up until this year 2023, and the “Get Back” doc., a far more watchable experience of a band working up a song in a London studio than the dark “Let it Be” movie ever was… 2. There’s a big in-joke in the dialogue of the non studio junkyard part of “One Plus One” because, at one point, one of the actors says, in his dialogue, “and I try… and I try… and I try…” clearly quoting “Satisfaction” 3. Bringing it all right up to date, The Rolling Stones 2023 brand new single, “Angry” repeats the formula of Keith playing a pumping bass and also playing a trademark Keith solo prominently… Looking forward to the next instalment!
thank you Hank for the wonderful comments and sharing your thoughts. great to see. I had no idea #2 existed, wished I had know that. Yes, ANGRY has the Open G formula, and brings us back. Hoping the entire album has these surprises of greatness! cheers
I don't speak Russian, but my understanding is that most Russian words have several different meanings. Bulgakov was so brilliant he chose words which could be read on multiple levels, making the Master and Margarita something like three-dimensional chess. There is one English translation (dark red background, profile of a black cat on the cover) which footnotes a vast number of subtexts and double meanings. It's worth seeking out. Marrianne Faithfull had good taste in literature. @@FlipSideCT
@@FlipSideCT I really love what you do! I would donate if I could! I'm barely getting by right now, but I just wanted to thank you for all the hard work you put into these video's !
@@NateLethal thanks Nate, I know times are tough. Appreciate your acknowledgement of work efforts. A real time consuming task. Thankfully it is a topic of passion. cheers
@ Steve Flip Side CT I checked the Wikipedia article on Rye Cooder. My prior understanding was that he got involved- they invited him in spring of 1969 but Wiki tells us 1968 and 1969. I think a bit more checking needs to be done on my part. Wiki might have that wrong. I think you have it correct now but I want to check deeper.
I do not depend or use Wiki for any of my research . I would not know what they say. Yes, it was 69' his start. I would say to research Ry's interviews on what he thought and his view.
Great work again, man. Just to let you know that Godard is appreciated (and worshiped) in France as a genius by only a small bunch of intellectuals, the rest of the general public considering him as a cryptic avant-garde nonsensical director… J from the other side of the Atlantic 🇫🇷
thank you for that. yes, aware. It comes out, and sometimes I am not reviewing. I just move on. "Schedule "or "shed ja ule", "parameter" or "para meter" .....I know what they mean.
What do you mean the videos over??? How did 1 hour 24 minutes go by in 20 minutes??? Thanks for all the deep dives, FlipSideCT!!! Love the research, all the photos, the Stones swag (Sympathy t-shirts)-and, most especially, the bootleg CDs!!!! (I don’t even want to know how much they cost so I won’t even bother to ask where you get them).
Hey Andrew.....you are very welcome. I am proud of my research, so I take you comments with pride. I figured I have at least another hour for PT3. The tunes are all out there on YT, I have a collection but vinyl. thanks for the support
Check out the incredibly dynamic HI-N-RG ravish version of "Sympathy for the Devil" by Laibach ("who killed the Kennedys" mix...crucial distinction as they do many turgid sludge rock versions as well.)
@ Steve Flip Side CT Enjoy Friday TGIF day and Check this out on RUclips. Mont. Rehearsals 1972 part 3. Great open JAM no vocals Ohhh myyyyy what’s this song ????? It’s the one that is kind of a Bo-Diddly beat but not quite. Pretty fast !!!! The guitars both really come to life !
Keith was right about the film, the Stones part is historic, the rest of it with the lefty politics, I could live without.... BTW another great Stones story by FlipSide !
It is slightly before this, but I believe Ry Cooder also played on Captain Beefheart's debut album in 1967, "Safe As Milk." I'm not sure if that was the only Beefheart album Cooder contributed to or if he played on the follow-up as well.
@ Flip Side CT I guess we are all in agreement that Ry started working with the Stones in early 1969. It bugs me still that wiki has 1968 on there too. I can tell immediately by looking what photos are from 1968 and which are from 1969. I’ll have to check those.
Well we got to remember that I’m just looking at one thing I happen to remember correctly- don’t know why that Ry guy always stands out for me but he does - and anyone else might correctly remember this or that BUT for you in making what you are making have to deal with thousands and thousands of facts and put it all back together in the correct sequence of events. And get it all spot on bulls eye correct. That’s a huge task. It sure not easy to be the number one authority of a long time Band like the Stones but you do it and so well. It comes to life so well the way that you do it. To be honest when I have tried to write some of it down ( their history ) it automatically reduced it somehow and made me feel oddly empty a bit. It’s a draining job to have to do. ENJOYABLE for the VIEWER but I think more than a bit TAXING for the person reproducing it - making it come back to life and stay alive Kind of like how Keith felt when he was writing his LIFE STORY. I don’t know what the word is for it exactly but it’s more fun to live it and watch it unfold than it is to try to recount it. And as Keith points out the story isn’t over. I’d hate to write the book of my life thinking I have to do this because the story of almost over but yet there is a need in us that THE STONES story needs to be told...needs to be recorded and captured and documented...preserved.... illustrated. For all to see and to exist as it really did until the end of time or at least for a very long time. Stephen King said in one of his books that words reduced things for the writer or speaker. The most important things are hard to say or can’t be adequately said. For the listener or viewer it might be a different story but for the producer. When you let a baby out into the world that you love ...yeah it’s like that. There can be a post par-tam thing that can take place. It’s your baby and you have to let it go. BUT WHEN YOU GET EXCITED ABOUT IT AND NAIL IT JUST RIGHT and get even more EXCITED ABOUT IT yeah that can feel so good! :) I like the way you made this documentary bit by bit detail by detail. Keith throwing a smoke to Brian. Keith wanting to change amps. Mick having a serious chat with Nicky. I always love your extreme use of CHRONOLOGICAL order in order the way it happened in time from beginning to end. Lots of detail. It fills in all the little gaps for me. Keith Richards in a book ACCORDING TO THE ROLLING STONES. That’s a nice book. Instead of according to so and so it is according to each of the Stones sort of topic by topic . I think in it KEITH SAID 1968 1968... there is a HOLE in there somewhere. Keep on nailing them for us Steve! ! ! Your documentaries are great ! ! ! Kind of like when the STONES nailed one and they and everyone automatically knew it too! ! !
@@gregdettling6693 Thanks as usual Greg for your deep dive comments! Read it all! I am so glad you are an intense guy, similar to me. All about just doing it the best you can and doing it right. A huge undertaking in gathering all this and trying to filter out what is good or bad. I take many notes, and have many notes crossed out as I dig more and realize, no this is not true or this is irrelevant. Then the huge rabbit holes that can take days to compile. The key is not to be content with mediocracy. I leave that to others. I hope to one day have a LIVE session to share the tips and tricks on how to create one of these (my way), so others can present it for other bands. Good luck in class! thanks again!
@ Flip Side CT I’ve thought many times of how I like to best break Stones history up and what I have thought many times makes the most sense. The pattern I keep coming to is that the mini periods seem to go in chunks of 3s. 59 60 61 Keith meets Mick at the train station. They remember each other from childhood. 62 the formation of THE BAND 63 CHARLIE joins on drums 64 first two US Tours - spring and fall. 65 Satisfaction 66 67 68 ) Jumpin jack flash and the new beggars banquet. Definitely 1968 spells a new era for the stones into their important mature mid period We will see the death of Brian in 69 and the first US tour since 1966 and with a new guitarist. Keith’s addiction to smack seems to start this year in 68 ( as we roughly concluded previously ) of course 67 set the stage beautifully and we see some important things come into place. Anita and Keith come together for example but 67 was the end of an era. 68 too we see Keith’s and the Stones meeting with soul mate / soul brother Gram. So Keith by 68 has Anita and Gram and soon to have Bobby Keys by his side too. 1969 ) 1970 ) 71 we see sticky fingers and the end of the bleed era tours and into exile. Really going into Exile from a main-street that had been on. ( in interview with Keith and Anita in 71 in south of France by Rolling Stone magazine Keith interestingly says ‘we finally got all the right people together’ Fingers had just come out. 1972 1973 we see the death of Gram We see a bit of the Angie atmosphere and the coming down again. We also see in 72 I think Bobby Keys getting pushed out. We see the demise of Jimmy miller in 73. Keith and Mick having to finish Soup more or less themselves. At least according to Keith and he wasn’t asked back after that. 1974 Departure of Mick T. at end of 74. But Keith has already started working with Ronnie down at the Wick by that point. 1975 1976 Toronto bust is on the horizon. 1977. Toronto bust. For Keith. 1978 1979 Keith kicks smack for good. The day he throws the bag of it out the window into the rain. Why do I feel like I seen that in a film?? 1980 ) 1980 was important for Keith I think because traditionally up until that point it was his off the road year and that meant into smack . You do see the pattern don’t you ? But he was completely off smack by 79. ( the pattern I notice: 68 was a big smack year for Keith then followed by tour tour . 71 was a bit of an off year so heavy into the smack. 72-73 was tour tour 74 time off Smack year . 75 76 tour tour 1977 would have been a heavy smack year . But the Toronto bust happened interrupting things a bit. 78 79 tour tour . Keith has said he liked Touring live because he always seems to turn into a junkie when he goes off the road and he also would always (relatively) clean up for the live tours. 1981 Last US tour for a while 1982 I think not touring much in the 80s made it hard for Keith because he quit smack and must have been counting on the tours for his focus and natural high- It helps GREATLY that they toured the US every 3 years for this mini era of 3 year groups to work so good. This break down into mini 3 year periods really words good for me and seems to just really fit and make so much sense. Anyways I really notice the pattern when I break it up this way. I go on.. 1983 Keith’s marriage on his own 40th birthday. 1984 1885 Death of Stu 1986 1987 1988 1989 Back on the Road once again. Steel Wheels and Rolling again!
It's good to see you alive & well. Where are you going to see th boys at.I have a feeling (I hope I'm wrong) that this might not be anymore Stoes after these concerts. Please don't get pissed at me for even bringing that up. Where ever you decide to se them , I know it will be a blast. Do you have a press pass. That would be cool. Well think you kindly , Kevin Schell The only reason I'm not going (me & my girl of 14yrs )is because of blown out disks She needs the same but , now they are saying I blow out disks in my nech.Make the best of things. Hi Kevin. I will not be going see to them. No tickets, can not afford to it, and only would go for best seats. So, that is not happening. I am ok with it, but it would be still be always great to see them. I understand a bad disc and all the standing and walking can hurt, and literally a pain in the neck! cheers
YEs, I agree. I should do it. I will say briefly, fantastic, and reminds me of I Got The Blues in some sounding way! Great old school treat that we got!!
I’m pretty sure Mick and Keith took DMT the a lot of this year making this album. (Keith’s book). Explains a lot. Became the best band of all time from this album on.
While there were rumors that Anastasia survived the execution of the Romanovs, and several women claimed to be her, it is generally agreed by historians and considered proven by scientific analysis that she did not survive.
I know about some recent details on that recent research. I did not know that some have claimed to be her, that is funny. However, I did not state it was her that survived. I was not going down that rabbit hole. thanks for sharing.
@@FlipSideCT The most famous Anastasia impostor was Anna Anderson, a Polish woman who began claiming she was Anastasia in the 1920s. She moved to the US in 1968, ending up in Charlottesville, VA where she married a UVA professor and died in 1984.
Sympathy is not only my favorite Stones song, but it is my favorite song. At the 35:08 mark, there is like a revelation... someone off camera is noodling some pentatonics for what becomes the guitar solo...and it is not Keith. Is that Brian? Or ? Who else could it be?
im surprised but not really surprised that Brian could have done herion, he used to talk to his last girl friend that he was glad he never did it like Keith and Anita had.
A song along the same lines as Monkey Man. "Well I hope we're not too messianic Or a trifle too satanic". Always being asked "Who are you? Devils or what?" by the press hounds ever since Paint It Black. Well, that's what I figure. Hey, it was a real lift to see my name flashed on the screen ..... twice!
I thought it was a very good documentary but it seemed to be lacking very much info about the other songs on the album such as no expectations, jigsaw puzzle and factory girl among others. i see you mentioned some of the outtakes of them but didn't mention the finished song and the way they developed them like you did on some of the other ones like Let It Bleed but overall i thought it was exelicent and hope you keep making more.
All time favorite Stones record!! True Masterpiece!! PLAY LOUD!!
Play it loud indeed! It must be played this way! It is just amazing how they pulled this one out of the air!
I love all The Stones albums, but my personal favorite is "Tattoo You!" Beggars Banquet may be my second favorite Rolling Stones album 😁💖🎶

When I bought Beggars Banquet on 8track in 1974- I never stopped listening to it!!!
lol, great memory to hear it on 8 track. !!
Wow Steve. Those clips from the Godard 'Sympathy for the Devil' film were fantastic. I never saw it. But after seeing this I am not going to miss it~

The film is on YT, and can be watched. However, music fans fast forward thru plenty. thank you for all Rob!
And remember: this is The Stones' World and we are mere visitors!
nice !! TY! you should enjoy it! I did! We are so lucky to have witnessed them!
Great work yet again Steve.
nice to see this, thank you! I felt it gave a wonderful insight to the time period and actions. PT3 is work in progress.
Just as it is in the blues, its not or never about speed of solos, it's all about feeling and how it enhanced the song.
A vehicle for the song.
Thanks for the awesome Stones doc, Steve. I really appreciate your work. I can't wait to see what you do next. 😁💖🎶
cool to hear that. so glad to see your comments. I really wished more fans would see it. PT3 is being worked on now. it keeps growing.

Still is my favorite stones Lp.
you are welcome, and thanks for sharing and letting me know. This keeps me going! I can just imagine hearing this back in 68'. A true masterpiece!
Thank you for sharing that. It is well appreciated, and really glad you enjoyed this as a Stones fan! PT3 is work in progress! check out the others!
Such a great, tight album. No filler.
Perfection and surely for a STONES FAN 100%!
I love how you deep dive into the inspiration behind the songs and take the care to explain the history and nuance ANDyou do so without losing sight of the narrative
thanks for noticing this. Yes, the flow of the entire process is important and to stay on track. A challenge but fun!
Absolute masterpiece documentary! Thank you my man! Going to see Stones in Cleveland 6.15.2024! It’s only Rock-n-Roll!
thank you Sparky for mentioning this. appreciated, and can tell you are a true fan. nice. Enjoy that show and absorb the treat!
Sympathy is a masterpiece.those lyrics always grabbed me....
it stands on it's own, and like nothing else! Amazing how the lyrics stand out and grab us!
Also I’d like to compliment you on your near perfect narration - clear, and perfect speed , rhythm / great sound, and without filler or commentary so please continue with all the stones albums - I’ll get my arse over to your PayPal sir- well done

Hello once more friend,
It’s the middle of the night over here Mick lol.
I will, in Connecticut. thanks! Steve🌞

Yesss I think so too. This song is just pure genius and out of this galaxy!
MidnightRambler has been called a Blues Symphony. I think Keith said that.
1968 in Italy Keith and Mick wrote it in a cafe.
This is also a sort of Symphony for woo woo
Maybe like a Rock n Roll mamba Symphony.
Godard's film is a brilliant expose of the Stones' creative process. Amazing stuff, this is a great series of docs, thanks for your work.
appreciate that, thank you! It is an outstanding view of a historic period of the Stones he captured. Great timing for us!
as always great work.glad to see you are finally accepting donations. i will be contributing soon.

Hey Steve, the steel wheels, sympathy solo, that kieth goes nuts on that you have displayed on your wonderful work ,is my favorite.
thanks for mentioning that! I really liked that tour as they did not for awhile and gave it all!
Great timing with the new single just out.
just a coincidence, but it worked out!

you are very welcome, and hoping this delivered for you. thanks for sharing! PT3 is WIP soon!
Re-watching your stuff. Man you dug deep into this Stones thing. On Street Fighting Man my favorite part is the strange sounds after the last chorus. Had to be something Brian did IDK
nice that you are coming back to it. Yes, that ending creshendo is powerful. You can see why they save it for the end of a show.

This series, like all you've done so far is classic, priceless and SO informational and entertaining!!
The best to you and yours...hope all is well!!

always a pleasure my friend CC......thank you and you are welcome!
Part 3 will be a blast. cheers!!
And Bill was a pretty useful cricketer, too - once took at hat-trick at The Oval. Brian’s tights are MCC colours, no?
Didn't miss this one. I was never clear on where the filming of the song's creation came from. Another knowledge gap filled, with many thanks to you.

I imagine if Kieth had fender or some other kind of tube amp besides the crappy vox, amps that were in the studio.
Maybe they were bills old amps.
Thanks Steve. Looking forward to watching this after my gig tonight!
have a great gig!! enjoy this!! hopefully you let me know Kelly!
@ Flip slide CT
That one is always hard to locate on RUclips for some reason. Maybe it hasn’t been....awww not very well known 1972 Jam video perhaps but it’s a gem. I love this old footage of them.
Tonight when I get home I’ll see if I can find you a more exact title for it.
Nicky was so instrumental in the Stones success thanks for pointing this out!
nice to point it out also.....yes, we surely indeed have give Nicky his due and shine on him. I just wished Nicky's solo work would have been brilliant as Stones material.
@@FlipSideCT
agreed..he was basically a Stone and to cut his own path back then was very difficult
Hello again Steve,
Walking through more history with you thanks mate.
Warm regards and many thanks again,
Dave UK
@Flipside CT
Back in Toronto. Found a nice room quickly, this time around. Classes are going good. Everything is much better than last year.
I got into town on September 1 found a room on the spot and moved in on September 5 . Started classes on September 7 It couldn’t have gone any smother this year around.
sounds nice and smooth, and back in action. enjoy school, thanks for sharing
Keith's steel wheels solos on this are my favorite..
Another fantastic job, Steve. I watched the Godard movie once, but am glad there is a Stones only edit on YT so we can just watch that.
thanks Kris, !! working on PT3, and full of rabbit holes! hope you and M are well on the farm!!
Looking to start PT3 very soon, I am getting antsy now to work again. cheers!!
Steve,
Our resident Stones-meister!
TY. !!!!! cheers back
oh, I think you are aware of Jobriath. Give a watch to this doc, it is well done. ruclips.net/video/jgvTsjOZ2IA/видео.html
Ahhh. Riding the A train with the Flipside. Thank you
nice....helps that ride go smoother and quicker!
DUDE!! YOU ARE DA BEST!! 1/2 WAY THRU A PRINCE AMONG STONES" YOU ARE PRICELESS AT FILLING IN KNOWLEDGE HOLES!!!
A pleasure and thanks for commenting and enjoying. I do recognize there are many out there that need some more insight and clarification, so I am glad to deliver it.
the addition of Mick Taylor truly made them the greatest rock band ever
his contributions helped out tremendously for sure, and brought them to even another level.
@ Flip Side CT
This song reminds me of two things RUMBLESTILLSKIN asking the girl if she can guess his name.
And around that same era there was the boxer Mahamid Ali yelling on video WHATS MY NAME?
What’s my name is a great line.
To me kind of those two things come to life in a great rock song.
I love these info movies
And I love the Rolling Stones
And I love you for doing this for us 🙏x
a real pleasure to hear your passion! thank you!!!
from a fan to a fan! I am trying to move ahead!

Sorry...Very sleepy now.
What the heck....Let me see
Googling
Montreux Rehearsal 1972 RUclips should bring it up.
If not then add part 3 to it .
It starts out slow and then it just blasts off
Yes Greg, I have seen these Montreux Rehearsals, they are fabulous and clarity! thanks for sharing. Maybe one day to do more on it!
@ Flip Side CT
I had thought you may have not seen the one of those that starts off with Charlie’s drums and is mostly Mick T and Keith weaving on guitars.

Greg
Thanks so much ! fantastic work.
very welcome, and glad you shared your comment Thank you
@ FSCT Jesus Steve is this documentary ever good!!! There is something funny about that damn song but I love it! You really made this one ( and the the making of that song ) come alive!!!
Thanks Greg, appreciate that from you! It needed to stand alone for sure! PT3 is being worked on now.....a lot going on!
First off. This may be an inappropriate time to ask. But what did you think of 'Angry'? I loved it myself~
Rob/Boston
Hi Rob, no problem to ask......I really dug the tune, and so glad it was musically not overdone, lyrically good (Probably if I had to say an old tune brought out).....loved Keith's leads. but hoping the new album will not disappoint and done simple as possible.
My favorite photo is the one they used on Hot Rocks, I always wished I could have a poster of that
There are photos out there of Swarkstone photo session you can probably get.
Once again
an absolutely wonderful study of the creative process…
Well done and congratulations, Steve!
Here’s some discussion point
observations
1. Although the film
“One Plus One” was much derided, it was, up until this year 2023, and the “Get Back” doc., a far more watchable experience of a band working up a song in a London studio than the dark “Let it Be” movie ever was…
2. There’s a big in-joke
in the dialogue of the
non studio junkyard part of “One Plus One” because,
at one point, one of the actors says, in his dialogue,
“and I try…
and I try…
and I try…”
clearly quoting
“Satisfaction”
3. Bringing it all
right up to date,
The Rolling Stones 2023 brand new single, “Angry” repeats
the formula of Keith playing
a pumping bass and also playing a trademark Keith solo prominently…
Looking forward to the next instalment!
thank you Hank for the wonderful comments and sharing your thoughts. great to see. I had no idea #2 existed, wished I had know that. Yes, ANGRY has the Open G formula, and brings us back. Hoping the entire album has these surprises of greatness! cheers
Thank you very much beutifull
beautiful is nice to hear!! you are very welcome.
The Master and Margarita is the most imaginative novel I've ever read.
I see that it is so deep......I do not know if the style is something I would be in to. I am more a NONFICTION reader. But, thanks for the comment!

I checked the Wikipedia article on Rye Cooder.
Just to let you know that Godard is appreciated (and worshiped) in France as a genius by only a small bunch of intellectuals, the rest of the general public considering him as a cryptic avant-garde nonsensical director…
J from the other side of the Atlantic 🇫🇷
thank you. I figured that would be the case. He had his followers, but not mainstream at all.
@13:44 I think I've seen him hit a few balls on David Letterman. He plays.
Hey Steve, "Cheyne" Walk is pronounced "chain e" or "Dick Cheney". Lovin' your work.
thank you for that.

Mont. Rehearsals 1972 part 3.
Great open JAM no vocals
Ohhh myyyyy what’s this song ?????
It’s the one that is kind of a Bo-Diddly beat but not quite. Pretty fast !!!! The guitars both really come to life !
thanks for sharing Greg. TGIF...I am not able to locate the video..
Keith was right about the film, the Stones part is historic, the rest of it with the lefty politics, I could live without.... BTW another great Stones story by FlipSide !
Many are right, I would have loved to hear the Stones conversation after they all saw it. I still will take the movie, just for the their pieces.
It is slightly before this, but I believe Ry Cooder also played on Captain Beefheart's debut album in 1967, "Safe As Milk." I'm not sure if that was the only Beefheart album Cooder contributed to or if he played on the follow-up as well.
Yes, Ry did play with CB. In PT1 I do play one of their songs while talking about Ry. thanks for sharing.
@ Flip Side CT
I guess we are all in agreement that Ry started working with the Stones in early 1969.
It bugs me still that wiki has 1968 on there too.
I can tell immediately by looking what photos are from 1968 and which are from 1969.
I’ll have to check those.
yes for Ry. There are handfuls of mis information out there.. It is a tough task to dodge them.
ENJOYABLE for the VIEWER but I think more than a bit TAXING for the person reproducing it - making it come back to life and stay alive
Kind of like how Keith felt when he was writing his LIFE STORY.
I like the way you made this documentary bit by bit detail by detail.
I think in it KEITH SAID 1968
1968... there is a HOLE in there somewhere.
@ Flip Side CT
I’ve thought many times of how I like to best break Stones history up and what I have thought many times makes the most sense.
The pattern I keep coming to is that the mini periods seem to go in chunks of 3s.
59
60
61 Keith meets Mick at the train station. They remember each other from childhood.
62 the formation of THE BAND
63 CHARLIE joins on drums
64 first two US Tours - spring and fall.
65 Satisfaction
66
67
68 ) Jumpin jack flash and the new beggars banquet.
1969 )
1970 )
71 we see sticky fingers and the end of the bleed era tours and into exile. Really going into Exile from a main-street that had been on. ( in interview with Keith and Anita in 71 in south of France by Rolling Stone magazine Keith interestingly says ‘we finally got all the right people together’
Fingers had just come out.
1972
1973 we see the death of Gram
We see a bit of the Angie atmosphere and the coming down again. We also see in
72 I think Bobby Keys getting pushed out.
1975
1976 Toronto bust is on the horizon.
1977. Toronto bust. For Keith.
1978
1979 Keith kicks smack for good.
72-73 was tour tour
74 time off Smack year .
75 76 tour tour
1977 would have been a heavy smack year . But the Toronto bust happened interrupting things a bit. 78 79 tour tour .
Keith has said he liked Touring live because he always seems to turn into a junkie when he goes off the road and he also would always (relatively) clean up for the live tours.
1981 Last US tour for a while
1982
I think not touring much in the 80s made it hard for Keith because he quit smack and must have been counting on the tours for his focus and natural high-
It helps GREATLY that they toured the US every 3 years for this mini era of 3 year groups to work so good.
This break down into mini 3 year periods really words good for me and seems to just really fit and make so much sense.
Anyways I really notice the pattern when I break it up this way.
I go on..
1983 Keith’s marriage on his own 40th birthday.
1984
1885 Death of Stu
1986
1987
1988
1989 Back on the Road
once again. Steel Wheels and Rolling again!
It does sound like blond on blond, you are right Steve.
yes, Dylan was on Mick's mind. thanks for your sharing and comments!!
I am ashamed to admit, that in the mid, to late 80s until 95,and voodoo.
I wasn't in the stones camp.heavy.
But came roaring back w,/ lounge.
Well think you kindly , Kevin Schell
The only reason I'm not going (me & my girl of 14yrs )is because of blown out disks
She needs the same but , now they are saying I blow out disks in my nech.Make the best of things. Kevin (revolving stage)Schell. Peace out & stay safe 😅
Hi Kevin. I will not be going see to them. No tickets, can not afford to it, and only would go for best seats. So, that is not happening. I am ok with it, but it would be still be always great to see them. I understand a bad disc and all the standing and walking can hurt, and literally a pain in the neck! cheers
Dude, I need to hear your review of the second single they just dropped this past week!
YEs, I agree. I should do it. I will say briefly, fantastic, and reminds me of I Got The Blues in some sounding way! Great old school treat that we got!!
I was getting 70s flashbacks.
@@FlipSideCTSame here! Specially the horns.
"Sympathy" is my favorite song of all-time. I hope to produce a funky track as clever during my muzik career 🔥🎶🔥
you can be inspired from it!
Hey steve, it seems like Brian was playing a lot of rythyam guitar on the basic track live in studio.
yes, but I do not "think" it was on the Final Cut. he was stroking the chords for sure.
I’m pretty sure Mick and Keith took DMT the a lot of this year making this album. (Keith’s book). Explains a lot. Became the best band of all time from this album on.
RnR
I wondered what was inspired by the Dylanesk folksy to the samba,
just jamming and they know how to move it along
@@alexanderyacht6483 interesting. thanks for sharing that
Sympathy is not only my favorite Stones song, but it is my favorite song. At the 35:08 mark, there is like a revelation... someone off camera is noodling some pentatonics for what becomes the guitar solo...and it is not Keith. Is that Brian? Or ? Who else could it be?
Keep in mind, my studio footage is all in slow motion to avoid copyright issues. That you here is Keith's leads.
im surprised but not really surprised that Brian could have done herion, he used to talk to his last girl friend that he was glad he never did it like Keith and Anita had.
It could have been Coke.....but right, if it was heroin, I could believe it also. Just a bad place! right I also would not think it was at K&A level.
@@FlipSideCT yeah it gets pretty muddy with the things that happened around 1967- 1969
A song along the same lines as Monkey Man. "Well I hope we're not too messianic
Or a trifle too satanic". Always being asked "Who are you? Devils or what?" by the press hounds ever since Paint It Black. Well, that's what I figure.
Hey, it was a real lift to see my name flashed on the screen ..... twice!
yes, he carries it thru to LIB, yes. a double thank you!
I thought it was a very good documentary but it seemed to be lacking very much info about the other songs on the album such as no expectations, jigsaw puzzle and factory girl among others. i see you mentioned some of the outtakes of them but didn't mention the finished song and the way they developed them like you did on some of the other ones like Let It Bleed but overall i thought it was exelicent and hope you keep making more.
no fret Dave, Part 3 is a work in progress now! oh yes, more to come!
