I will give you my 1975ish Japan pressing of Rolled Gold. I'll donate it to the channel, It will be safer in your collection than mine. This is a heavy box unit with factory rice paper sleeves. The 1/8" card stock poster/stiffener with all six stones on it and the cover. The book with lyrics and I don't know what as it's in Japanese. Also the red banner that covers their privates. Mint condition, haven't seen one on ebay.
I was just watching the Dylan, Keith and Ronnie clip from Live Aid 1985. I remember being really excited when they came on at JFK. But from where we were sitting the night time performances were easier to see on the stage screens. Plus at that point in the proceedings everyone was exhausted. But they still pulled it off. The perfect end to one of the most amazing days in music history. >< This album was one of the Stones albums that I bought later on. The first Stones album that I bought as an early teen was Hot Rocks. I think it was because of Rocks that I ventured out and bought Beggars, Sticky and Goats Head. The fan in me wanted to hear every song that was not being played on terrestrial radio. Beggars surely delivered. Especially the acoustic stuff like Dear Doctor, Factory Girl and Jigsaw. >< Thank you for including some of the non-album tracks/outtakes Steve. This is one of my favorite parts in all of your album makings. The song Hamburger To Go/Stuck Out All Alone. I am always blown away by the amount of songs that are still in the can to this very day. They could release the most amazing box set on vinyl of all of the outtakes bar none. It would sell like crazy to all of the longtime fans like you and I. Wow. The outtake of Street Fighting Man {Pay Your Dues} is fantastic. The lyrical content would probably makes waves nowadays. {smile} But back then things were not so politically correct. So bands could get away with a lot more. They usually went after Zappa and left everyone else alone. {smile again} Be back to watch the rest at a later time. This is the first weekend all endless summer long that we are having back to back sunny days. I am off to the beach. Have a super weekend Steve. Another stellar Stones Making Of effort. I will leave you by describing this video in one word using a Stones song title. 'Tops'~ Rob/Boston
nice Rob! TY!!! and for sharing! YEs remember the Live Aid performance extremely vividly well. Despite the sound and perf, I am always glad to still be in their presence. Beggars is a TRUE STONES fans album. Not one I would introduce a first timer on. I was a bit shocked to see how few songs were worked on. I think they really wanted to move on getting an album out and tour. can not believe it is closing in on August! We got cheated with these real humid and more smoky days. enjoy!
Awesome 👏 Nice surprise to have you visit the Beggar’s era…a favorite. You have done wonderfully researched work for the other projects. From one fan to another…keep on glimmering!
Going through a pretty tough breakup right now, and I just wanted to thank you so much for these videos and the work you put into them, they’re keeping my mind right and teaching me things about my favorite band I never knew before, keep on going man. Forward
got it Adrian, so cool that these can help you and get thru this fuzzy time. We are all family here! These surely can put you in a good frame of mind! thanks for support and sharing!
Thank you Eric! In a non egotistical way, I am saying "I know" . I had to breakdown and devote my energy and skills to spread the work my way. Needed to keep them and RnR alive and going. thanks for recognizing it! keep watching all the others!
@@FlipSideCT I sent a small donation that I’ll try to be regular about. I just love the insight, the window into this creative yet commercial world and the resulting epic records. I was so surprised to see you had done Black and Blue, one of my favorite unsung records. I know we’d be the best of friends if I lived near. It gives comfort as I’m going through some horrible illness, MS or ? Some mysterious Neurological disease and I’m scared to my bones. I’ve lost all my friends in the past 5 years to accident, tragedy, and good old fashioned cancer. At 54, I’m alone and trying to find the strength to get through and your familiar kind voice is a comfort. I really appreciated you. It’s you or David Attenborough I put on when it gets bad. I spent some time in cranberry Nj, NYC, and upstate NY when I dropped out of college in 89’. Found my way by accident there and really enjoyed your part of the world. I had a good friend that I lost along the way that was from this area due to divorce and identity crisis. You remind me of the best parts of him. I even got my Kiwi wife into the Stones. Didn’t see that coming but I changed the paradigm and she commented last night about how much she’s been digging Lou Reed. Transformer was her gateway drug but it’s Songs for Drella that she nuts about with Cale/Reed that is a masterpiece. I hope you’ve heard that record. I had been working at a record store when it came in as a promo. The needle landed and it hasn’t come off since. Sadly, my friend Ken who passed last year just couldn’t stand Mick, his lips or falsetto but I had blast busting his balls about the greatness of tue Rolling Stones.
A new FlipSide vid!?! YES Sir! Just what i needed..or wanted. Or (i should say) both. Always a pleasure. And thanks again, coz we love and appreciate your work.
I can't be the only one watching these who thinks they're getting better and better ...at a fairly rapid pace too. For a long-form presentation, I find it just as entertaining as any faster paced one would be. ~bravissimo brutha.. ☝️ hittin' the tip jar once I'm finished
nice to hear thanks! glad you are digging these and a Stones fan! A real challenge to pull together and get many to enjoy! My thought on documentaries, as I witness so many types, so many think to speak and get as much as they can in the shortest time. Not my model. I purposely want the listener to have the time to think, absorb, visually watch and hear.....so thanks for getting it!
@@FlipSideCT Oh I get it For certain.. I sink right into the situation.. theater of the mind brother. The intro had some fantastic elements to it, That kinda floored me.. Best you've done yet!
thank you Bobby, so glad to have you share that and appreciation! goes a long way for me, and love sharing this with the family! cheers enjoy them all!!
The Roling Stones crew have to listen to you channel, pay you and share your work in the official TRS channels. It's about time. Donation done from Brazil! Thank you.
LOL, I am with you and would love it! It would be great to share with the Stones community. I do watch a the few Stones channels from Brazil. Thank you so much for the donations....it makes me smile, that the efforts are appreciated!!
Good morning Steve. I came back to watch the rest of this fantastic BB Making Of and I noticed that my original comment was gone? I left you a staller and thorough comment but I guess that I did not hit the comment button? I cannot remember everything that I wrote. But I did mention how I bought this album in the first five purchased Stones albums in my teen years. Hot Rocks came first. The rest followed. I also mentioned that the outtakes that you post and talk about are always some of my favorite portions of these Making Of documentaries. That alternate version of Street Fighting Man {Pay Your Dues} was crazy. Whenever you hear a Stones outtake for the first time it kind of juggles your senses a bit. You have the original versions tattooed in your brain. So even if you hear a different chord strum or a different accented word from Jagger you notice it instantly. I will have to come back and finish this later on. I got to run. But I do commend you for keeping it going. You really need to pat yourself on the back for all of your efforts. This is something that no one has done before. The research, the info and the delivery. Outstanding~ Rob/Boston
not to jump into this or create a conflict -- wonderful documentary, and thank you for such professional quality and/or research is beyond reproach. But there seems to be another version of "Pay Your Dues."" floating around that truly sounds as if its the backing track for what came out on record, which these vocals =added , Simple as that. Didn't know origin of lyrics. Interesting but not exactly Revolutionary... lol In other version, I didn't hear all the clutter from the instruments and that allowed Keith's guitars to shine through more easily. m For me, the lushness of this version steps all over vibe that starts the song...... This song contains many riddles and engineer tricks -- not to mention Keith's opening chords he played in that microphone on the cassette. *In an interview a few years ago, the jerk interviewer got Keith a copy of the cassette deck or one like it -- and asked Keith to 'show" how he got this great lo -fo sound..... It sounded DREADUL..... Looking forward to Part 2. JMHO - and probably wrong!!! Thanks.
thank you Rob!! I did see a post from you.....hmmm? thanks for ALL! The Stones just had / have the special blend of highs and lows that built them to what they are. Amazing serendipity and plenty of chaos and hard times complete the recipe. We got to witness this in our lifetime, like seeing Mozart. Keeping this fire going and teaching folks (how ever I can) is what I wanted to accomplish. So someone had to do it! Glad you can dig all the pieces I put together. So to answer your question, I do feel a fantastic sense of accomplishment and very proud to deliver this! Not for any ego, but just for the sake of RnR and RnR'ers. thanks JGWire for your input. I am not that geeky that I collect and listen to all versions of outtakes. I know there are a lot of outtakes and mixes and so many folks now can separate tracks and mix their own. Hence the last song in this doc. IF you find this version, let me know, I always appreciate a turn on! thanks for sharing!!
thank you for leaving the comment, and very cool to hear that you enjoy them! I wish I could do them quicker. If I was retired, maybe! PT2 will be sweet!
Hey Steve - Thanks again for your brilliant videos - So excited to watch this - I always learn things I never knew about the recording process, the tracks, the gear etc.- I assumed you would go chronological and tackle the "Tattoo You" era but you threw me a curve ball!!!! - If I'm not mistaken your first in depth documentary was for " Let It Bleed" so this is an interesting jump-back! Again my deepest appreciation for your stellar work - It's a precious gift for us Stones fans and anybody who wants to learn how the greatest rock n roll records of all time were created - THANK YOU MY FRIEND!!!!!✌
very nice comments to read! Thank you very much! makes it worthwhile when fans like you can respond and let me know. I like to do the unexpected for element of surprise and interest. If you look in my Channel under PLAYLISTS, you will see all the DOCS listed. I did IORR first, and maybe LIB or Goats next. I am real glad to share with fans and expose the Stones on how I see them. thanks for all!!
You're right Steve - you did IORAR and Goats Head Soup before Let It Bleed - just went back and re-watchd those early videos and it was great to revisit your early deep dive Stones analysis - your early videos were great and you've definitely developed and come a long way since then - Thank You for your AMAZING work - by the way this pt.1 of Beggars was great - can't wait for pt.2!!!!!
lol, I am proud of what I construct and deliver, but even more that fans do appreciate these the way I do! Maybe one day I can get a call from the big boys to consult. YW!
Agree! These should just become official Stones cannon at this point. It can’t be done better, especially if Mick, Keith, record label etc, have any control. I’ve been a lifelong Stones fan and this guys got pictures and video clips I’ve never seen! I’ve bought rare box sets and extra live albums I never knew existed only because of this channel exposing them to me. The Stones should be paying you, haha.
@@mikelcory4065 thanks guys.....appreciated this with a nice smile. I would ultimately like to consult on a big project. I know no one out there has the deep insight, and I am proud to bring it. thanks for all your support.
I'm glad you are finally here to bring us through this musical expedition, as well as the historic influences of not only the people but the events. The picture is huge. There will always be a genre of music that descibes our lives. Never stop listening!
Brilliantly done. Thanks for sharing. I feel sometimes I am the only one who truly understands how important the Stones were and are to rock and roll. Simply the greatest band ever imho.
Well said! I thought growing up we were the hip ones....then again no internet in 70's......but not until we started to see how big the community is, and how many dig it the way we did. Never mind artistry, this is a science! thanks for sharing! cheers
They've been the driving force in my life since I was 12, in 1981. All my schoolmates we're into Prince, Madonna and Duran Duran. None of my adult friends or 2 wives appreciated them, so I'm really happy to hear from fellow Stones appreciatives like yourselves!!!!!
Much appreciated! Thanks for the comments and appreciating the work efforts, that goes a long way, and glad you can click with me on the delivery. I know this doc gets into the wrong hands and some folks just do not get it! cheers will be working on PT2 soon
Just sitting down to watch this. I'm SO excited!!! I love your work. I've even made them into audio-only versions to listen to in the car. Thank you for all of your hard work.
It's about time you got some $ for all the effort you make these great documentaries on the best band still kicking. Thank you kindly , revolving stage in 81 , Kevin
I truly love and appreciate your dedication to something that you have an interest in and you provide many interesting facts from a guy who thinks he knew everything there was to know about this very subject. I am in awe and entertained by your thorough studies of your subject. Plus your voice is definitely a plus. Keep it coming my Friend. Much much appreciated
if this is your first time, welcome, and a big thank you for observing that. A LOT of pride goes into this, then comes 100's of personal hours. Some one had to do this, from a fan for the fan! enjoy them all. You may get to the point of seeing my EXILE PARTS, as I have been receiving gifts for my work, and I felt to give back to donators. I'll leave it at that. But thank you for the comments!!
thank you appreciate that, and glad you can pick up on this as a true fan. I am pointing out to a few folks, an update in the description, regarding Ry Cooder. Someone pointed this out today, so it bothers me that I "may" have misstated something even though I declare that I am not 100%. but, I take it on the chin sometimes. Yes I hope to be moving along with more! thanks for the support
@@FlipSideCT It did! I’m obsessed with BB. Your attention to detail is second to none and I learned a lot about the album. I have a few bootlegs from this period of The Stones but there was loads of music that I’ve never knew even existed. The work you have been doing is better than the official documentaries on the band. I’m really looking forward to part two. Thank you for this.
I love your documentaries on the Stones, you truly are a master at doing in depth researches. Can't wait for the rest of this one to come out! I hope your next project will be Their Satanic Majesties Request, although it is not one of my favorites, I would really love 3 to 6 hours of info on how it was made.
thank you for the comments and sharing this. very important for me to hear the positive and how folks do click with it! I have thought of SMRequest , but it requires much more research for me of totally unknown areas, which means more time in between. I do not have a grasp on Brian, and need to read more books to gather a better understanding and truth. there ya go! I have thoughts on next one but it will be how I feel that day I start. I am glad to hear you enjoy the lengths, as I have to remove the 2% that just do not get it and not fans! cheers
@@FlipSideCT well even the albums that i never found as interesting as the 68-72 period are fascinating to learn about. Am I dreaming or you say in old videos that you did a It's Only Rock'n'Roll docu and I just can't find it on your channel? I would love to know your next project but right now you seem to be working on my all time favorite so I can't wait to see the next part(s).
@@sirgilmour look at my PLAYLISTS on my channel, the Stones are all listed there. You might venture off and watch my other vids. I will say Sticky will be done, but not Exile, as there are just real good docs out there on it.
Real real great work, man, great insights, great contextualizations, nice tone, nothing too pushy, everything that needs to be said, nothing unnecessary. And a real love for the glimmer twins’ work. Loved it. J from France 🇫🇷
Hey Steve Thank you, Maestro. This was such a nice treat to watch in celebration of Mick’s 80th. Perfect timing on your part. Kicking it off with a symphonic opening was a great twist. I can’t imagine how unbalanced the ratio is for the work you put in, just to create 1 min of video. As Scooby and Shaggy would say, Yikes! Loved the shot of the book spines with the song titles. Their lyrics are so underrated and ignored, but they are literary classics. That was fabulous and right of you to include a lesson of song roots. It’s always right to honour those who have been unjustly ignored, forgotten. Many don’t realize how well-educated the Stones are about where their sound came from. 1968 was such a pivotal year in history with unbelievable turmoil around the world. CNN did that superb 4-part series on it, based on the four seasons, and Ken Burns had that sublime and monumental PBS series on Vietnam. Both are must-see tv. Again, you blow my mind with the rare and unique audio and video/pictorial sources you manage to source out for your works. The deterioration of Brian seems to really escalate at this time. I recall Bill Wyman thinking he may have been an undiagnosed epileptic in his autobiography. Recently someone suggested that maybe Brian was bipolar. We’ve certainly seen many an entertainer self-medicate for that condition, most unsuccessfully. One can’t discount how much fame affects someone either. Apparently, there is a recent BBC doc on Brian that has been highly recommended to me. Hopefully it does come over to North America, just as the brilliant My Life as a Rolling Stone doc series from last year did. I may be in the minority, but I think you also have a similar opinion although maybe not as strong as mine. I believe Pay Your Dues is better than SFM. The sound “kicks” more. Until you pointed it out, as it’s the beat that captures my attention, I can be oblivious to a meaning of a song so I had no idea it was about an Indian Chief. This was a great choice for the next production that you tackled. Beggars is the era when the band became the classic force with their look, sound, act, image.
By the way, I just noticed a promo for a new Stones podcast, Stones Touring Party, if you can believe it or not and it’s all about the 72 STP tour by the author of the book of the same name. You might want to subscribe 😉
Thank you for getting that 2 piece opening, there were a few that commented on the first, but it takes a good literary person to recognize the second. That visual was not a normal site, and would have hoped more fans would have said how cool it was. Alright, it's just you and I!! I had to piece in the roots, as I needed to get the viewers involved in what KEith and The Stones heads were at. I just do not know if some folks appreciated it. Did not see PBS or KEn's docs, will need to. I take a lot of pride in my research. The mission steps reads, engage the viewer with something they have not heard or seen. It is too easy to get the obvious visuals. not for me. Thinking about have a work session (paid) on how to make these. But who knows. Brian just could not keep up with the overwhelming Drugs, Alcohol, Anita leave, police, M&K taking over, health issues, relationship issues with out of wedlock for so many kids. He needed a therapist! Too much for a delicate person. Understood Pay your Dues. Why an Indian chief, could have been any subject. Beggars is still an album not many fans care for. My intention was to try to curb that and make this understood. OH! STP Podcast. Interesting. I have the few books on it. Just saw the preview. thank you. will move. Then again, I Am looking to learn something I do not know at this point. I hope it does well. thanks for that turn on. I do have an STP Tour book $80 from an author in Norway that spent I think 20 years on every show detail. It could not get it out to the market for some reason. He has TEST versions that he sells. I have one, and it is fantastic. I was going to do a doc on this tour.....so now that will be interesting. thanks for all!!!!! best steve
Qell researched answer with thorough reasons for your enjoyment on the very subject. Your research and choice of words are truly remarkable on the very subject you are replying to
@@mikemonchuk7087 Yes, Kathy provides some fantastic comments. You can see she paid attention in class and studied well. (note "paid", it is the proper wording as it is used for past tense of "pay"). Always a pleasure to converse with KAthy. But also kudos to you Mike for reading / observing and commenting on this! great job !!!
@@mikemonchuk7087 Why thank you Mike. It's ironic that this entry of mine brought forth a comment since, as Steve will attest, I believe it is my shortest ever post to one of his incredibly informative videos on the Stones other than our briefer exchanges afterwards. Keep watching his channel, it's worth it.
Jumping in here to express the astonishment I feel when viewing the album charts 15:57 Such a treasure trove of incredible artists and music. It's like some fantasy collection of superheroes. How did we go from that to the current situation? I guess corporations ruined it by focusing on optimising for revenue above all other considerations. Also, I have one of those Philips cassette recorders. Still have the mic and single earpiece with the leather case. It cost me no more than $5 or $10 about 20 years ago in a 2nd hand store in Berlin. I bought it because of the JJF recording story but I also recalled my pre-school teacher bringing one into class and setting up the mic in about 1970. That was tech most of us had never seen.
thanks for sharing! cool that you have the Phillips. I am sure many would love to re create that sound. Yes, that list is simply amazing! It is very sad to see the changes made and where today's musical direction is today in the mainstream. Which is one of the reasons I make these, and to teach how and why to listen. A sad time for music.
Blown away by the outtake 'Hamburger To Go' - should have fully developed it! Many thanks for introducing me to this incredible track via another forensically researched deep dive!
nice.....thanks for commenting! They did not do as many songs as later sessions, but the few they did are sweet! thanks for the acknowledgement on the work efforts
🎉 yo Steve. Jumping in a little late here but as you know, I’m always with you on all of your stuff. you know, it’s really good to see that you’re dipping back into the Brian Jones era a little bit. you are covering it great. The Contant that you put together is brilliant! I know that we both agree that overall Mick Taylor was probably the best guitarist they had, even though he was the one that had the least amount of time with the band. Still love, Ronnie Woods stuff. Well, Brian Jones stuff was very, very interesting and I could tell you probably enjoyed yourself. Researching stuff for the Brian Jones era. as always, you always manage to uncover a lot of things that I had forgotten about. you always do a great job refreshing my memory of the band at that time frame. I mean, like Dave Mason, sitting in with the band for a couple of things, some really cool stuff. The Ry Cooder material played a huge part in this time line. all the instruments Brian Jones played especially the melotron stuff. even though Nikki Hopkins took the lion share on the keyboards, Bill Wyman, surprisingly. shows a lot of his piano skills and organ stuff too! A lot of the great stuff that was left in the can is finally showing up now, after all these years, which is great! I can’t wait for part two! sorry for the delay. You know, I’m kind of old-school and don’t know much about sending things through PayPal. I’m not very good with cell phones or computers so, I’m having somebody help me with the PayPal thing I apologize for that. You just keep on rocking it, like you always do flipside from one fan to another, you are the greatest with this stuff. Your docs are the best OK then, cheers to you my friend. I’m waiting for part two and I’ll be talking to you soon. - PHILLY DC.🎉!!!
thanks as always Domenic! appreciated all your input here and comments! well said and taken. I will share this with you. I am extremely cautious and not so keen on presenting the Brian years. There is just way too much sensitivity and anger with his fans if something is not stated the way they want to hear it. I take constructive input, and can not tolerate the anger comments which I have received and removed quickly. So with that said I really have to reconsider that era. I give all credit to Brian and his talents and forming the band. But there is so much hatred to Jagger/Richards for their actions they took during the time. I do not want to deal with that negativity. With that said, I am pointing out to a few folks, an update in the description, regarding Ry Cooder. Someone pointed this out today, so it bothers me that I "may" have misstated something even though I declared fully that I am not 100% on this topic. I have not heard anything regardless 100% of what is true or not. So I do have to take it on the chin and phrase this in PT2. I understand your technical skills.....but thank you for all the support!
Absolutely love your work. If I were loaded you would be too. I’ll do my best to support your brilliant masterful framing of history. Thanks again ✊🏽😎🎶🎤

nice to hear this from you! Part 2 is cooking now, actual still enhancing the script as I consistently keep finding little details that I am adding. Great to hear you are working and moving along. Being creative is so invigorating, keep it up! and let me know. a pleasure and thank for all the support also! Glad you watched the Lou vid, I thought it was real informative.
I had to come back and give it another listen today. Actually for what ever it’s worth yesterday I listened to this doc on the A train to 145th St in Harlem to visit a friend. So I missed some of the details do to distractions. Anyway I’m the guy who put in your comments that you should have AWARDS on your wall. I really do hope that these docs find there way into the Stones camp . I’m sure they would enjoy them like we do! I’m rambling now ok. So I came back today and read your notes and saw that you are contemplating not doing anymore. No. No no. Ok. I don’t have much but I certainly will be going to Pay Pal and sending you a donation cause I look forward to these like I did when waiting for the latest Stones record. With Excitement. That’s right. Born in 65 I’ve been alive as long as the Stones have been World Famous and besides it’s Micks 80th birthday. So again thanks, we really like your work. Don’t Stop
that is very kind of you, and appreciate your support! You are a great Stones fan that just wants as much of them as possible, like many of us. I am really trying to create the right balance on all of this as I am faced with a lot of challenges in making these and it is not just with time/financials. I am hoping to be able to drive ahead and keep this going.....but again appreciate all of this! I am still moving ahead...!!
I haven’t watched it yet, having just discovered it while browsing but I already like it! Yesterday I put a playlist together of their catalogue from Day 1 to Exile..and have been playing it all day. My Favorite so far! Thx for the time & dedication to my 2nd go too Stoned album, Exile comes first, but I kinda taught myself guitar, and tuned my guitar to " Sympathy For the Devil".... I had the tab book and learned the open E tuning and labored over the " No Expectations" B.Jones slide part...and " Stray Cat Blues " I can hear and feel some Velvet Underground on that one, I'm gonna shut up and watch this thx again, Richie

nice to hear you guys debate and discuss. So hard to make fav......I just say, I love them all, depends what I feel at the moment. Some just listened to more then others. Glad you got this delivery! cheers!
You always deliver the nostalgic Rolling Stones goods as I respond to the end of your video, Steve! I can't wait to see your new documentaries. 😁💖🎶 I'm STILL trying to negotiate my deal with Sony. I have a lot of new muzik to produce and release, but not until I know who owns and who profits from my work before I even record my new works. Something has got give! Sonofabitch this didn't come up on my feed. I'm here now though. Your foray into the blues was interesting but being a blues fan left me wanting more. LOL ... Me personally loved the way the Stones and the other British bands interpreted the blues. It was fresh, new to a blues fan like myself. Yeah Beggars Banquet, It was my last year as a teenager and things in the world were pretty messed up. Us longhairs still weren't accepted. Your doc brings back a lot of memories. Beggars Banquet, Let it Bleed and Sticky fingers are without question the 3 greatest in a row albums ever put out by an artist bar none. The Beatles, Hendrix, Led Zep, it don't matter. That triumvirate of Stones albums tops them all. Another great documentary Steve. Kudos' I ain't got much but I can toss you a couple of bucks. By the way I picked up a couple more Ry Cooder albums the other day. I know your a fan..... Cheers.
Hey Bobby, if you go to the top right and click on your YT circle image, a drop down will show and choose SETTINGS, then on left side choose Notifications under Settings. Make sure "Your Preferences" are clicked on that you want. I do realize many fans do not know about the BLUES history, and I just hope they do the research.....but cool that you wanted more! So did I, but way to big topic. Can not imagine putting BB on for the first time in its moment of time, and saying WTF is this!! Those 3 are just flawless. I will check out your Ry buys. I did more research on Ry, and need to make a correction......many books say he was in England in 68, but he was not. So I got to mention that info in PT2 and photos I showed were most likely 69'. thanks for all the support!!
Absolute Gold! Always a wonderful mix of informative and entertaining… What a great way to spend a late Saturday morning with a pot of coffee! That Jack Nitzsche interview is so instructive about what The Rolling Stones really are and what they do…. Well done on the PayPal link, too… You deserve every digital cent… and more… looking forward to the next one!
sweet!! hope the coffee was good to! I am glad you enjoy the delivery! Excellent to hear you picked up on Jack. I found it fantastic to hear. Thank you so much for the donations....it makes me smile, that the efforts are appreciated!! :)
Just maybe my favourite Stones album (but that changes on a weekly basis) Really enjoyed the video and one point it did reinforce is how unsuited the Stones were to the Psychedelia that permeated the 60s and beyond. Yes, there's a few gems on 'Satanic Majesties' like Citadel, 2000 Light Years from Home and She's a Rainbow but the remainder is lazy derivative chaff befitting its rank status as a dishonorably discharged 'Private Pepper' The back to basics approach adopted on 'Beggars Banquet' provided the first installment in a succession of masterpieces like Let It Bleed, Get Your Ya Ya's Out, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street.
I also need to also add that your constant research is completely daily consuming and I believe that you're doing this like a pirate and sifting through true facts by declaring what's true and what is speculation and this takes quite a bit of time before a single point gets put into your very entertaining piece of art that you put out. I am thoroughly grateful and entertained by your work more than what I thought was the definitive answer to the stones history-25×5. You're work on each of their classic albums is way beyond their authorized efforts ten fold my Friend
Mike, you made my day and smiled! I really thank you for your keen insight and sharing thoughts. I take super and above and beyond pride in ALL my lifetime projects. As a long time Stones head, that would discuss geek details with my mates in the young days.......it stopped as we all drifted. After watching many YT vids and observing forums on STONES, I found folks are not getting it, and there is repetition and negativity being communicated. It was me that needed to reach back and want to educate and hand hold folks more details on how and why about the Stones. There was horrible bashing of albums, and it pushed my buttons. So great that you observed my skills and approach to get this out there. I do get more negative thumbs up then I would expect (2-3%) to positive thumbs up. Not bad ration, but these are the negative and angry folks that are out there and DO NOT GET ME. Docs from a fan for the fan. I am seeing donations, and still hoping there is more, as the word gets spread. This is needed for my MOJO and a new computer. working 10 evenings straight for 4 hours , then a break, then repeat, all this after my Full Time day job.......is exhausting and concerning for me. thanks for all!
Summer holidays and adventures made me late to the party. This is looking like it could be the best one yet. I'm loving the tie ins with other artists and the 1968 History segments. This album would chart the course for the Stones through the seventies, at least. Its a shame that Brian wouldn't be able to hold it together long enough to enjoy the ride.
You always find a way in to the party, we been waiting! They all have a their own brand as they changed thru times. Folks do not realize how much change they made, and stayed relevant for us fans. I will say, anyone that has issues with this album, can not be a true diehard fan, it is that simple. Yes, Brian had major issues all around, and it was not due to M&K as I hear slack from Brian fans. the rest is history!!
@@FlipSideCT Hope you're as excited as I am about the news of the new album coming out this fall. The Stones continue to walk with us throughout ours lives.
@@fittobetiedyed5315 I am, but have a bit of nervous energy and not to get my hopes up too much. Just hope they don't clutter the tunes with many over worked layers and keep it simple. They worked on it at least last year in I believe Bahamas sessions. Yes, they are OUR life soundtrack.
@ around 58:00 We ( us here in the deep south). Have a Handy fest every year, W.C. Handy. The story goes he was the first one to write down the blues music proper on staff paper. This made it clear what makes the blues the blues, and the "blue" note.
I really appreciate your efforts and acknowledge the time involved. I love them too and saw them once in Oakland. Sticky Fingers and Beggars Banquet are the standouts along with many hits.
Great documentary as always, especially the outtakes from this era. Always loved Still A Fool and good to hear an in depth look at both the Stones cover and the Muddy Waters original. There was an instrumental from the Beggars Banquet sessions I always loved called I Was Just A Country Boy that I wish would have been worked on more. Child Of The Moon is another favorite of these sessions, its kinda magical how that song would have fit on Banquet but would have also fit on Satanic Majesties.
great to hear that!! thank you. Country Boy I believe I talk about in LIB doc, from that session. I take anything close to a country twang from them, and yes, wished it was developed. Child of The Moon really started in the 67 sessions, and did get spilled to be the flip side. Hopefully you saw the JJF doc. Look on my channel at the PLAYLISTS. thanks
yes, the world and people is (the handful there are) shameful. Mankind is rough around the edges, and has always been. Music is therapy and our soothing piece in life
@@FlipSideCT oh your great and very in depth ! Just played a gig in Tyler Tx Played Country Honk , dead Flowers , no expectations ! I’m exhausted but listening to your black n blue information now ! Really impressive and thank you 🙏🏻 🎸🌙
@@brianballard1153 so you are a musician into the Stones. sweet. I have a lot of touring musicians that are watching and glad these can give some enjoyment! nice song selection and keeping it going! you are welcome!!
@@FlipSideCT yes sir I’m 59 but still carrrying the message so to speak ! In new band named Garden Valley Radio ! On RUclips we used to be named E m f l , songs the next future , a sea away , goodbye to the rain etc . Anyway have a great Sunday , many thanks to your work !
Good morning young sir, from here in deepest SE England (actually about 20 mins a from the cottage where Brian died in the pool). Now living here in East Sussex, I’m also very near Redlands too Mick. I thoroughly enjoy your Stones stuff - and it’s so easy to identify your dedication and hard work thank you. I’m very sorry that I’m unable to donate as I’m unwell and on what the Government call limited capacity for work. I fully understand that you put 100’s of hours into each presentation Mick. The local newspaper and photos from these particular times are but one example (this is without the wonderfully appropriate music soundtrack). I I’m very soon to be retirement age and 66yrs old Mick, so am able to reflect upon these years with much interest. I recall only too well how the Stones were considered ‘bad and naughty’ lol (I have an older sister Mick). I remember that she bought ‘Paint it Black’ as a single. So, just to say hello, give you my thanks - and to wish you well Mick. Warm regards, Dave
A big thank you Dave, and hope you are doing well and ok. I understand there are limitations on many folks. tough and rough times. thanks for sharing your info, and so cool that you are located near those historic points. A pilgrimage for many of us. But not sure how much we would see. Yes, it is usually a sibling or friends that shared the Stones to us. all my best, Steve
Judging by rock and roll circus Brian was still playing well. And he contributed a decent amount of music on Beggars. But he was spiraling more in the beginning of 1969. It was clear Brian would not be able to tour. The Stones had no choice but to let him go. Also wonder if the Circus outakes are lying around somewhere.always thought blood red wine turned into Symphony for thd Devil.
He did play, and did perform RnRC. is was unravelling. Keith knew he was to carry the weight. There are outtakes I am sure, if you search deep on YT. I can not say much about BRWine and Sympathy, if you hear that, I can not say it is wrong, but doubt as I believe it came after the Sympathy sessions.
@@FlipSideCT well you would know about red blood wine. But I remember Mick saying they did 2 or three takes of each song plus did a couple off blues numbers. Being a TV made deal. Thd footage Ed may be long lost. Strange how old concert footage of the Stones and other bands as not degraded. A Godsend.
I was watching the 90's Beatle bio and George H. was speaking about Sargent Norman Pilcher of the London Police. According to George H. Sargent Pilcher had it in for all the top rock musicians. They hit the Beatles, the Stones and went down the list from there. Fast forward sometime later and Sargent Pilcher himself was arrested himself for purjury.
thank you for that! It is great and how we remember how, one album turns us on, and then we go back into the archives and find more treasures. The Stones are one of these bands, as we do need to keep exposing them.
Great work again! Nothing left behind. You’ll find details about Stargrove purchase in Christopher Andersen’s Jagger Unauthorized biography, chapter 8. J from France 🇫🇷
thank you very much. good to know, as I might need more details for Sticky Fingers, and nothing about how many woman Mick slept with and who. As long as he is accurate. thanks for sharing that
@ Steve Flip Side CT The think the March 1968 purchase of the London apartment at Chany walk and Chelsea gets mixed up with the Stargroves purchase in winter or spring of 1970. That might be why we can find information on both of those years for StrGvs. I like the Classic Persian and Vienna style decor that Keith Anita and Mick get into.
YES!!! Just into the opening. Fortunately/ unfortunately my birthday weekend starts now. So it will be background until then. I'll start it over on Monday and get into it then. Thanks Steve
Oddly, after being around and big on the scene for years, this is imho their first truly great album - up to then they were a blues cover & pop band - this set them up as a foundational rock band, taking the blues synthesis to a new level.
Aftermath is their first truly great record. The impact the US version had cannot be overstated. Paint It Black, Lady Jane, Under My Thumb, and I Am Waiting all in one album, plus the very groundbreaking Going Home, a long musical vamp that would set the stage for bands like the Doors and the Stooges.
Banquet is by far my favorite Stones record, and I'll never hear it the same way again. So much thanks for such a good job, and this is just the first half?! Thank you.
@@ArmandoMPR You can certainly make that case - I just don't think any of the preceding is timeless in the same way as BB, LIB, SF, EOMS, etc. Its largely a question of taste, I suppose. They definitely knew how to make 'hits' from the beginning. I expected some disagreement :)
Thanks again! I really love your videos. I always recommend them to my Stones friends. Now I will watch part two. I've loved the Stones all my life since the sixties. I'm an old guy 😎✌️. I must mention this hot topic: They should not go on after Charly passed away. It's not Stones after his gone. Do like Led Zeppelin after Bonham died. They have given so much to much the world so we forgive if they slow down and enjoy their finale years. Sorry for my rant. All the best. I will tell others bout this channel.✌️
hey there, thanks for the sharing and comments. Love it, appreciate that fans like you can dig this the way I do. So cool to pass this on, as I would want to know as a fan of something like this for sure. Actually, not much of a fan with their CODA album, never mind after. All solo after was mediocre. Page/Coverdale was not that bad. but they lost the pizazz. Definitely lose of Charlie is felt, and can not be replaced. cheers
My son & I went to the most recent show the Stones did in nashville after Charlie died, just to kinda see and hear for ourselves what it’s gonna be like with Steve Jordan on the drums. We got the last thing I expected: one of the most enjoyable Stones shows I’ve seen in a long time. It wasn’t Charlie’s sound, but it was a good groove nonetheless. Keith played much better than the last couple of shows I’d seen when he was downright horrible and I actually got some comfort out of the fact that Mick wasn’t doing his 100 yard dash all the time. For the most part he just stood there and sang. Between songs he chugged water and was out of breath and in a (very) perverse way I found that comforting. Like, oh! He is human after all. Did I enjoy the show? Yes. Do I think they should hang it up? Yes. Sure, Keith played the best I’d seen him do for a while but he’s still a shadow of himself, Mick is winding down, the original stellar one of a kind rhythm section is completely gone, the background singers bother me tremendously and always have… it’s just over. Put on some Stones live anytime between 1969 and 1982, and then listen to something from any of their modern-era shows, and then give me a good reason why they shouldn’t hang it up. It’s over, Rover.
@@FlipSideCT Do you have an Instagram account at all? I’ve got around 3000 followers and I want to spread the word on your content. Might be another way of getting more traffic to your youtube channel if you set one up?

Hi Henry, thank you for appreciating my work and these docs! very much! I am eventually going to be doing Sticky. For Exile, there is way too many great docs on it, I could not do justice. @ Flip Side CT Still staying alive here in Downtown Toronto. When I get my Cigarettes where I get them at the smoke shop on the corner I see the EL Macambo club in full glory every time. Makes me remember the Stones of the mid to late 70s every time. It’s really the only place on that street corner that looks good new and clean. Very professional looking and so damn near the old University. My dear old very much loved Professor who is in Vancouver at UBC has come down with a case of throat cancer that he is determined to beat at age 86. Very sad news. Makes me think of quitting the habit and yess Keith finally gave it up. I in no way condone smoking cigarettes or cigars but I enjoy it with coffee very much. Having one right now actually. Been very sick recently and still waiting for student funding to come in from the wild Wild West. We do still have a few wild horses left and in my younger days I got teased about Horses by locals in Toronto. Because of being from out in Alberta. It’s not the harsh Toronto I remember but I think it can still Throw your head into cold water to wake you up, so to speak. Ask Keith about Toronto I do think it had two sides. I wanted to make one note about Keith today. In all the photos I’ve ever seen of him he is almost always cleanly shaven. Amazing !!!!! Finishing Exile in 72 in LA might be one exception! Have a nice day Steve !
It seems like people often focus on the distance between Keith and Mick. I’m sure they have both needed to extend themselves to get closer to the other to work together. It’s a two way street that isn’t always automatic. But sometimes often it seems that it has been automatic. I like to focus on where they come together. I got this eternal image of Mick and Keith writing songs together in the early and mid 1960s. AS TEAERS GO BY GET OFF OF MY CLOUD They made a pact in 1961 at the train station and more or less that still holds. Where they came together to write songs together,,,,is it just me or do we feel like we were there too as observers ? Something special happens when those two put their heads together..creative magic in the air or something. Don’t you notice It too ? when they get close together on stage singing and playing. Some kind of creative spark and harmony.
Steve, your stuff is stellar good. I watch them lots You deserve to be paid I’m almost 70 so I can’t The kid who did the Beggars Banquet news letter wrote a book Wow, no holes barred tell all As good as “up & down with” by Spanish Tony Keep on keeping on ✌🏻&❤️
thank you! I understand. Hell of a lot efforts put into these, so I appreciate your enjoying these! Yes Bill German put out a sweet book! not a kid anymore!
Yet another good job Steve! I learn so much from your work, Thank you! This is getting closer to my favorite era. I love the Metamorphosis stuff! When I became aware of RUclips, the first song I looked up was Jigsaw Puzzle. Like Stairway to heaven and Free Bird. Sympathy for the devil is my least favorite song. To each his own however The Lantern and the next up for me would be Dance little sister these are my fave's. I hope you can do a partial video on the Standing in the shadows - 2,000 light year period. Keep up the good work, your audio levels are spot on now! I'm still going to donate to you, my collection will be better off in your hands. Sorry for the delay on that divorce can turns one life upside down.
Hi David, sorry to hear about your current status, feel for you! thanks for all the support! Who am I to tell someone is wrong in their favorites.....everyone feels and connects in different ways. There is nothing right or wrong. I am very cautious when working with Brian period. I have gotten a few negative comments from the Brian fans. It is a topic that might be too touchy for me for that reason. I do not need to defend myself and have to stress it. Maybe one day. I may do something for a few handful songs. cheers and hope all goes well! thanks again!
Hi flip… whose RSVP cover is that with the autos on it
@FlipSideCT how old is this and damit wasn't informed 🤔?
ROLLED GOLD is the best compilation ever, introduced me to the Stones-hated them before that
Maybe its the same"Rolled Gold" , ws what we had here on America, as "Hot Rocks,"? I wish I could see what it looked like..…
I was just watching the Dylan, Keith and Ronnie clip from Live Aid 1985. 'Tops'~

nice Rob! TY!!! and for sharing! We got cheated with these real humid and more smoky days. enjoy!

Outstanding~
Rob/Boston
not to jump into this or create a conflict -- wonderful documentary, and thank you for such professional quality and/or research is beyond reproach. But there seems to be another version of "Pay Your Dues."" floating around that truly sounds as if its the backing track for what came out on record, which these vocals =added , Simple as that. Didn't know origin of lyrics. Interesting but not exactly Revolutionary... lol
In other version, I didn't hear all the clutter from the instruments and that allowed Keith's guitars to shine through more easily. m For me, the lushness of this version steps all over vibe that starts the song......
Thanks.
@@jgwire Wow. Thank you for this great piece of info. I really appreciated it~
thank you Rob!!
IF you find this version, let me know, I always appreciate a turn on! thanks for sharing!!

ahhh yes! I strange and odd time, that needs a deep exposing of. Some amazing recipe pulled together. All ties in somehow. thanks!
Incredible….you need a show on PBS…but then again your in depth documentary style right where it is. Great work!
lol, I would say it would be nice to get a paid gig and get access to much more! thank you for sharing!!
Brilliant, as always. Love your delivery, content and editing. Thank you for the hard work and don’t stop.
Thank you for all of your hard work.
sweet to hear! thank you! glad you as fan can enjoy it! multi media, nice!!
It's about time you got some $ for all the effort you make these great documentaries on the best band still kicking. Thank you kindly , revolving stage in 81 , Kevin
thank you Kevin.....it just felt right to be able to ask for these now, I need the Mojo at this point! it is challenging and so much time.
Steve, thank you so much for this heartfelt gem for the dyed in the wool Stones fan…just immersed in it. Michael
nice to hear it that from a deep fan! cool, enjoy.....as I posted PT3 today. plenty of watching to do!
Great suprise, thats my Friday night sorted thanks so much👍
Enjoy! hoping it delivered!!
Many thanks Steve, you bring the good stuff.
My pleasure Trev, and glad you shared this glad you can appreciate it!!
possibly the coolest video i've ever watched
thanks Richie....hopefully you checked my PLAYLIST and saw the others.
@@FlipSideCT 2 so far and will watch them all!
Another fine job, Thanks for your time and effort
Very welcome...and glad to have contribute this!
Much much appreciated
sweetness to hear! pure nectar! thank you for all
Lot of work man wow thanks
if this is your first time, welcome, and a big thank you for observing that.
Great work as ever Steve. I am looking forward to part two and hope you get to continue making these documentaries with and for us fans and collectors
thank you appreciate that, and glad you can pick up on this as a true fan.
My favorite Stones album. Looking forward to this.
Thank you
Enjoy! hope it delivered
@@FlipSideCT
It did!
@@FlipSideCTTrue. Exile was pretty well covered. Sticky is another great docu subject. I approve this idea!
Thank you Steve for this documentary! You put so many aspects to the Stones background and their musical career.

I’ve watched all of your videos. I even listen to them when I want to chill out and take a nap. Great work. Keep it up. We are listening!🤟💋🪨🎸
thank you! I guess that is good about taking a nap. appreciate the support!
Real real great work, man, great insights, great contextualizations, nice tone, nothing too pushy, everything that needs to be said, nothing unnecessary. And a real love for the glimmer twins’ work. Loved it. J from France 🇫🇷
sweet! glad you get it all, and let me know. Keeps me going.
Welcome back! I thoroughly enjoyed the Jumping Jack Flash doc. Video...this one is gonna be real fun!😊
nice to hear, and hope this one delivered.
Stevie, no long winded story here ,just know that you've produced another masterpiece. My regards mate.
Peace, Rocky
thank you, still appreciate the comments and acknowledgement
Hey Steve
Thank you, Maestro.
Awesome! Nice work man, thanks

Cheers.

Can not imagine putting BB on for the first time in its moment of time, and saying WTF is this!! Those 3 are just flawless.
I will check out your Ry buys. I did more research on Ry, and need to make a correction......many books say he was in England in 68, but he was not. So I got to mention that info in PT2 and photos I showed were most likely 69'. thanks for all the support!!

thank you Carl......cool to read this!
Just maybe my favourite Stones album (but that changes on a weekly basis) Really enjoyed the video and one point it did reinforce is how unsuited the Stones were to the Psychedelia that permeated the 60s and beyond. Yes, there's a few gems on 'Satanic Majesties' like Citadel, 2000 Light Years from Home and She's a Rainbow but the remainder is lazy derivative chaff befitting its rank status as a dishonorably discharged 'Private Pepper' The back to basics approach adopted on 'Beggars Banquet' provided the first installment in a succession of masterpieces like Let It Bleed, Get Your Ya Ya's Out, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street.
you said well. nothing much but to agree! thanks for sharing

Child Of The Moon is another favorite of these sessions, its kinda magical how that song would have fit on Banquet but would have also fit on Satanic Majesties.
still blows my mind neither JJF OR Child of the Moon made it onto any studio record -- they were just not looking back.....
great to hear that!! thank you. Country Boy I believe I talk about in LIB doc, from that session. I take anything close to a country twang from them, and yes, wished it was developed. Child of The Moon really started in the 67 sessions, and did get spilled to be the flip side. Hopefully you saw the JJF doc. Look on my channel at the PLAYLISTS. thanks
The human suffering in this country and the world are staggering and heartbreaking to say the least.

@@brianballard1153 Band sounds real good! hopefully you can post GVR. thanks...enjoying today for sure!!
Good morning young sir,
from here in deepest SE England (actually about 20 mins a from the cottage where Brian died in the pool).
I’m very soon to be retirement age and 66yrs old Mick, so am able to reflect upon these years with much interest.
@@FlipSideCT - Brian’s cottage is advertised along the road as “Home of Winnie the Poo'' Mick, lol.
Regards, Dave
@@Swimkid1 that is funny to hear and no one has changed it, that is sad.
Fast forward sometime later and Sargent Pilcher himself was arrested himself for purjury.
yes Richard, all of rockers got it from him. They were the target and he was going to bring them all down. thanks for sharing
Great work as always, Steve. Thanks so much for this. Got into this great album in '78, same year as Some Girls. Kindest regards from DownUnder!!
thank you for that!
As long as he is accurate. thanks for sharing that
Luv it !!! can't wait for pt 2.
nice!!! going to be good!
@ Steve Flip Side CT
The think the March 1968 purchase of the London apartment at Chany walk and Chelsea gets mixed up with the Stargroves purchase in winter or spring of 1970.
Thanks Steve
hope it delivers, and happy birthday!!!
Oddly, after being around and big on the scene for years, this is imho their first truly great album - up to then they were a blues cover & pop band - this set them up as a foundational rock band, taking the blues synthesis to a new level.
Correct Riley, which was my point mentioned. For sure the step for them going in a new direction.
Thank you.
@@FlipSideCT This is one of the best rock documentaries I've yet seen. You have the gift. Love that delta running in the background. Keep going.
Dude, this is great!

Hi Henry, thank you for appreciating my work and these docs! very much! I am eventually going to be doing Sticky. For Exile, there is way too many great docs on it, I could not do justice. But, I am going to do a piece post Exile / tour but it will be for donators. No Zep, I wish I could but way to much work for me now.

Still staying alive here in Downtown Toronto.
Have a nice day Steve !
thanks for sharing Greg. that is a keen observation for smooth faced Keith. Which many still feel baby faced Mick's late 70's beard was not real.
AS TEAERS GO BY
GET OFF OF MY CLOUD
They made a pact in 1961 at the train station and more or less that still holds.
Where they came together to write songs together,,,,is it just me or do we feel like we were there too as observers ?
Something special happens when those two put their heads together..creative magic in the air or something. Don’t you notice It too ? when they get close together on stage singing and playing. Some kind of creative spark and harmony.
I was just thinking about your channel yesterday, and here you are. Synergy Cool 😎
sweet to hear! I did have my ears ringing, but that was from the Stones!! hoping this delivered
Steve, your stuff is stellar good. I watch them lots
You deserve to be paid
I’m almost 70 so I can’t

Just what I needed tonight Steve. Thank you!!!

@@FlipSideCT it absolutely did!
