- Hang Fire presents the amazing story of the making of Voodoo Lounge. Let’s go back to 1993 to when it all began! A lot was happening for the band at this time. Coming off the hugely successful Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle tours, the band took on a huge blow when Bill Wyman announced he was leaving. Instead of calling it a day, Mick and Keith saw this as a challenge to overcome. Auditioning a new bass player, finding a new producer for their new album, Mick and Keith’s island getaway writing sessions to the full band finally recording the album at Windmill Lane Studios- you won’t believe the twists and turns to get to the finished product. Here now, the tale of Voodoo Lounge!

This was an amazing video! I will be looking forward this kind of video for Bridges To Babylon in three years time! I really like that album...
Really like that album, and remember how insanely huge the stage was for that tour!
Excellent mate fantastic work
Amazing film, thank you! Fantastic to see how a Stones album is created starting with really terribly sounding song ideas to masterpieces.
Still dreaming for the Stones to launch "You Got It Made" officially.
The same. Absolutely amazing song. Classic!
Thru and Thru may be Keith Richards greatest masterpieces. Thanks for the informative video Hang Fire. Much appreciated
Hey my friend Trump... Completely agree with you ✌️Nice weekend
@@tandod269 hi my friend Tanja. Thank you and hope you’re doing well too. Nice weekend
@@Trump-rv4nz Nice to hear you my friend.. Greetings to you and your family 😍
I was hoping to see something for the 50 anniversary of “It’s only rock and roll” like they did with Goat’s Head Soup and Tattoo you
Me too, It's Only Rock n Roll de luxe long overdue Blu ray 5-1 surround sound just like Goats Head Soup.😉☘️
Justin, this is an amazing video and insight into Voodoo Lounge !! Thank you for the crazy effort that a project like this takes !!
I've been replaying this album (and b-sides) a bunch of times over the last few months and it continues to impress me. There's so many good VL demos and outtakes out there - hopefully some day a Deluxe Edition is released (along with IORR, B&B, and ER 🤞)
1994/1995 were truly special time for the Stones indeed - so much creativity and great ideas along with the Stripped era. It feels like the members of the Stones feel in love with the band for the first time again in awhile (perhaps the first time since Some Girls since the next few albums after '78 were a strained time for them).
I miss Charlie :(
Wonderful watch. It took me back to 1994 yet at the same time put that year and Stones era (94/95) in it's magical perspective.
Great work, you're like Columbo, thoroughly enjoyed that, the song crafting work is truly a lesson. Cheers to you.
I’ve always like voodoo lounge..but honestly I think that some of the out takes we fleshed out and replaced some of the actual albums songs it would have been much more creative and interesting
Thanks again for all the amazing content! I really appreciate the work that you put into these videos!
Truly incredible work, Justin!
Thank you pal!! Another amazing video!
Don Was had a Slideshow Bob vibe going on during those sessions 🤡
Excellent presentation, Justin bro.. Don Was could have scrapped that "Brand new car" tune!!
Micks attitude towards Bill leaving was way out of line, that's a side of Mick I don't like. Bill was awesome.
It’s not his department to make the replacement recommendations, it’s Keith and Charlie. Plus, when you’re the frontman for the world’s biggest and best band, you can’t show any emotion towards a member leaving, it’s what the media expects.
Agree. Mick's big ego is not one of his best traits
Perhaps that had something to do with why Bill left. You can only be considered a second class citizen so long...
Several times Mick has shoved Ronnie on stage. There's also the story from Keith's book about how Charlie got fed up and punched Mick in the face 😂😂 The only one who appeared to stand up to Mick is Keef.
@@wadeeagles4241 He did say that there was no room in the band because Mick & Keith did all of the songs.
Very well done, thank you! I was pretty surprised that there wasn't a deluxe reissue done for the album like they did for goats head soup or tattoo you. And the only reissue was vinyl. There is so much to choose for a b side disc....
That could still happen. They probably didn’t do it now because of the recent releases. And the Stones don’t tend to do these box set releases on major anniversaries anyway.
Thank you so much for this wonderful compilation, Justin! It was so well done, so entertaining and informative! Particularly appreciate it, because I missed a lot from this period of the Stones, bcuz my interests went to studying jazz music at that time. So...I learn every time I check into your podcasts. Very VERY cool to learn about their creative processes throughout the making of this album! They really DO make a beautiful team! Thanks again, love and best to you from Toronto, Canada! ♥🎵🎶
What a wonderful documentary you created - absolutely fantastic. Fun hearing those old Voodoo Stew demo tracks too.
Justin I found your channel a little over a year ago. You do a fantastic job. I first saw the Stones in 1978 on Mick’s birthday in Oakland. I love Voodoo Lounge. Great video!
Phenomenal, Justin ! Super interesting and superbly put together. I’m not too much of a outtakes and bootleg guy, so it was a revelation seeing and hearing curated highlights making of ! And finally, like all great videos and write ups, it’s makes you desperate to play the album again ! Did I love it, you bet !! 👋👍🫡
Saw this tour in Philly, open air, rained like a bastard, got soaked, caught walking pneumonia. This was in chilly October. The Stones curse.
Awesome video have a great weekend also happy first week of fall ❤😊🎸🍂🇺🇸🏴🇬🇧🇨🇦
Excellent video Justin! Super well done and relevant! I hope you make more "making of" videos like this one! Since Bridges To Babylon is the album that introduced you to the Stones, you must be looking forward to 2027 to celebrate its 30th anniversary?!!!
I remember a friend telling me that he'd heard Love Is Strong. I was more of a fan than him and he said it as if to say its not that good, expecting a better song. That's what some can expect from a giant of rock. Personally l think Hackney Diamonds is a better album. It's got almost a bit of everything. I'm not aware of any other bands that have had more than one type of genre on one album.
Verry well documented! Thanks for spending and digging up this piece of art!
What an absolute fabulous video. You continue to best yourself every time. Between the outtakes and the behind-the-scenes footage you did an incredible job. My only problem with the video is how do you top this video? Good luck. Well done and can’t wait for the next one.
Really enjoyed this Justin. Back in 94/95 Voodoo Lounge Tour MTV TV used to do Stones specials like this. Taped them onto DVD back then so great memories. One question for you Justin Is there any truth in the Sheppard's Bush '99 gig being released between now and Christmas. Its been hinted at on the IORR News page yesterday 🕺👅🎶🎵🎸
Thru and Thru... My favorite Keith's song... Thanks for sharing
At 64 I’ve been here for the whole ride . How freaking lucky could I be. Great album 🎉
Great job! Yeah I went to see this tour at The Meadowlands in New Jersey.. )^_-)/
Ma man, you outdid yourself!! The most in depth comprehensive documentary on this great great Stones album. I hope someone in their camp sees it and give hire you to work on their official video archives.
Great doc. Great work. This was a good period for the band and there's lots to love on this record. The great debate rages on but it'll always be mark 3 line-up for me. Seeing these lads joke about and enjoy each others company is what I love to see.
That was a great watch. And, to me, a precious occasion to discover some very good outtakes
So many song ideas, so many tunes, so many ours and in the end, after a long refine-process, you got an album like Voodoo Lounge.
Great docu thanks Justin for sharing
This video is amazing. I wish you got it made had made it. Sounded great. Cocaine is amazing also Where can I listen to all these demos ? I remember reading somewhere slash tried to play on a track. Keith told him to piss off lol Does anymore studio footage exist ?
That was an awesome watch. Branching out and upping the game with this one. Really enjoy the channel and have a new found love of everything Stones. Thank you
It appears DON WASn't what Mick was expecting.
I know its only idleness where it should be rockandroll.
Love all the info. So glad i started following you The greatest band ever!!
Muita coisa boa saiu dessas sessões. Voodoo Lounge, que já é um álbum de q gosto muito, poderia ter sido ainda melhor.
So interesting to watch and learn about the way Stones works. I think they are quite different to other bands on writing songs!
Danke für dieses hochinteressante Video....🔝💯....
Muita coisa boa ficou de fora do Voodoo dava pra lançar isso em um "novo " album.
Excellent doc. Well done! Many thanks.
This is just excellent. Loved it!
Big thank you for your work ❤
Thank you, very good
Great job! Thanks!
Great video.
Incredible ❤
Great stuff man!
awesome job
I'm so confused. Why did Mick sing in, what appears to be gibberish words during the demo recordings of the songs Zulu, and the other one right after it called Alright Charlie. I know this is all pre Eddie Vedder mumble, but did he just do it just as a way to convey the feeling of the song as it was being written? Hit me with a comment, I'd like to know.
If the musical idea is formed, but no words have yet been written, then it's a common way of getting a melodic idea recorded for the vocals. If the song has potential, then proper lyrics can be written which will replace the gibberish on subsequent demos and the final version.
It is very interesting to hear how they take musical ideas and developed them into songs. I would love to hear what was left on the cutting room floor.
They're all over RUclips if you know where to look. Try searching for the 1993 Voodoo Lounge outtakes, or Voodoo Stew.
@@ExileOnMyStreet Thanks, I have to seek them out. I just purchased the 2020 reissue of Goat Head Soup on 180 gram vinyl, the second disk of unrelease material is amazing. :)
