I am always amazed at the clips that you included in all of these videos Steve. The live and studio footage and the way that you segway it with what you are talking about. Just great. Also the dates and the places where they wrote Monkey Man and Midnight Rambler. Outstanding info. This is all new to me. Another smashing part two adventure. Let It Bleed was never a top favorite. But it is right up there in the top seven. Thanks for all of your efforts S. This one was dynamite~ Rob/Boston
thank you Sir Rob! There was plenty I picked up on also. In my eyes, this album is note to note, perfect. flawless. appreciate. I sent you EXILE PART to in FB
Stevie, hey man, just checking in old friend to tell u how proud l always am of your latest project. This effort that we enthusiasts had pt. of is better obviously than before. “Nobody knew if Brian was really putting on an act or not”. Seriously, Steve were we ever sure what was running in his half brilliant, half wasted mind at that time? Thanks for this latest edition to my stacked Stones library. I’ll be passing along a few quid for your bag lunch and a few vinyls. All’s good, Rocky
Hey Rocky, thanks as always! Appreciate all the support......it touches me greatly, and I love to share with all. I believe Brian's turning point was losing Anita.....and he immediate core of people had no idea how to help him. Not as bad as Syd Barrett, but headed there. Enjoy these!!
These are going to go down in history as thee best deep dive into the stones studio and life's during there classic album run. The voice the delivery the studious research that went into all of these golden videos. Thank you
thank you Thomas! appreciate your support and comment sharing. goes a long way. Very proud in my efforts and compiling and bringing together from great resources. I would love to see these as a fan!
The world is blessed that on that faithful day, keith and mick ran into each other again on that train platform and found a shared interest in blues music....
I had early access to this and its excellent - such a wealth of fascinating information Ive never read elsewhere and great sound/film clips. Great work as always
It sucks that you had to exclude the David Frost clip. Thank you for reposting Steve, but I liked it as it was 😁😉🎶 Funny thing is that I had just tried to watch this a few weeks ago and I had taken notice that the video was removed. I'm very grateful that you reposted. As for me, I'm still trying to work things out with Sony Music. I'll keep you posted with what's going on, Steve. I can't wait to see your next brand new Rolling Stones documentary. Take it easy 😁❤️🔥🎶
Yeah, even after a video has been up for a while, the owners of clips may not get to complaining for a while, and I am not flagged with a message. I found out by fans asking where is PART 2? as it was blocked. As long as IT did not get a YT strike . 3 strikes and I am out. So yes, I knew of a solution to reedit. just make the video in slow mo. Yes, let me know how it goes. I am working on EXILE PART 3 the STP TOUR now, which will be open to the public. PART 2 I am thinking to keep to Donators only (3.2 hours long). be well!
I'd forgooten that they worked with Mary Clayton..described by Dylan, "She could sing the phonebook". I agree. Glad she inspired so many so much to the benifit of the Stones also!
@ Steve Yes something has to be said about MICK’S vocals They are sooo good on so many tracks! You can really feel he was giving it his absolute ALL! I like too how mick is such a great creative collaborator with Keith. Keith has been such a lucky person and he really lucked out meeting MICK in his youth. On the other hand MICK really lucked out too. How great it is that so much of it was all by chance! But after that more luck and a lot of hard work and some pointers in the right direction! Lock them up in a kitchen ! Yeah! They really did so much with what they were given! I value MICKS direction of the band. But it wouldn’t have worked without Keith’s contributions and work together with Mick. It would have always been half a thing. I’m happy also how they have always been so appreciative and outspoken about the enormous value of having CHarlie WATTS. STU was very important too in the background behind the scenes. I think too they usually had all the right people around them and some of the wrong people too. But they got rid of some of the wrong ones those that were also finally past their time or just needed to be gone and kept the right people around and kept on a ROLLING. I love how they found that song Love in vain It was found in an old attic or something and then it got put out and released and the STONES just picked it up and decided to cover it ! This is my understanding of how it came out. COOL let’s cover that one from Robert Johnson it just got rediscovered! And then covered by the greatest rock n roll band in the world. So nice of them to do that !
I was five years old living 5 miles away from where this music was made. I was informed by alot of the music that influenced the album. Living in a world of domestic violence, dysfunction, abandonment, rejection and ridicule. Have I bled? Can i make you bleed? Absolutely. Can you imagine what the music of the Stones, Hendrix, The Who, SDG, Faces, Dylan and even Donovan do to a 5 year old mind, heart and soul? How HTW, JJF, Gimme Shelter, Wind cries Mary, Purple Haze, I can see for Miles, Tin Soldier and Universal Soldier do to an impressionable young mind, soul and ear? I had a ten and 11 year old older half brother and sister who, when I saw them, let me play their 45's constantly. Release. Escape. Knowledge. Feel. Energy. Beware the psychic vampires. Understand weird family and family dynamics. We're the same tribe Steve. Some of us grow up faster than others on very dangerous damaging foundations. You got the silver, you got the gold. You can have the diamonds. In your mind. Peace bro - par excellence once again.18:28
thanks and great sharing. I time in history that we will never see again, but can still feel. They are truly perfection in delivering their moment in time......and all the others.
@@FlipSideCT Have always been a great sharer my man except with my women lol. The two other emails are just pics of Stones stuff you can have or maybe are interested in reference wise. Plus a modern Aboriginal design and some strange fruit. Breathe'n'boogie legend - less stress Cheers Rad
Never have I ever heard Ry Cooder sound like Keith, or even play a riff sounding like Keith. Ry has a very distinct style. Besides most of the time he’s ripping off old blues men 😂 so I’m skeptical of his claims that Keith out right ripped him off
Well put together man. Is it not crazy to think the Bass player that has been with The Stones since Bill left has been with them longer than Bill was. :}
Hi Steven, Thanks for uploading this! I am watching it again without the blocked parts and enjoying it as much as the first time! A couple of comments about "Live With Me" I read that the line "My best friend, he shoots water rats And feeds them to his geese" is a reference to something Keith used to do at Redlands, did you hear about that? Also I believe that is the first song Bobby Keys appears on. Thanks again!!
thank you so much for the comments and support!! so cool that fans watch these multiple times. Yes, I am aware of the that line, and if I did not mention it in the doc, I truly forgot to. thanks for all!
@@FlipSideCT Here in the midwest of America, 'Live With Me' was a great hit to play for clubs and venues where folks would dance their troubles away. The start with drums and bass just could roll on while folks set down their drink and hit the floor. The sparse guitar jabs made it easy for the singer to spit out the nasty lyrics and taunt the crowd. Great tune, great to cover for folks to have fun. 'Dancin' Days' for sure! thanks,,,,
@@robnamowicz8073 good point. You just wonder how and what the song we sound like with different singer and their lyrics. Probably would never even come close. The tune is so out of the box.
@@FlipSideCT your comment about Daryl was interesting.....I think that the problem with Stones live sound today is the lack of balance in favor of an isolated sound bite approach to the guitars especially. Keiths too loud isolated licks on Sympathy for example are taken out of context ...we can barely hear what Ronnie and the rest of the band are doing ....since 89 the guitars are EQed very thin ...like electric razors....They need to fire their house sound team.....I know the stage mix must sound different. I miss the full bodied sound of the Ampeg era..with Micks voice down a couple db as well. Poor Daryl sounds muffled except for his "featured solos"
@ Steve flip side CT Looking at a map now I can just take 91 or 5 all the way down from the border at Quebec Canada. Never been to Quebec be good to see and experience French Canada for once in my life and once down on 91 or 5 easy to swing over for a short visit to Maine too on the way down or on the way back. So easy! I did some research too and I had no idea that CT was apart of New England. My research told me it is the most southerly state of the New England region. I just assumed New England was more or less north of all the biggest cities but now I know. Or it ended with Boston. But now I know what misconception was. In Stephen King novels he makes it seem like Mass is some other world and New England is some very northern place. My bad! Definitely New Haven is attractive for me just because of YALE. I’d love to be afforded the opportunity of checking out YALE a little bit. But the way the roads are it looks so easy wit compared to out here in the Wild West. Still have a few wild horses left out here. And a few in the States too I believe. I think they are protected or trying to protect them or something. Those were not wild to start with but they were released and became wild. A lot of people lost their horses in the various conflicts and gun fights when the west was being won and settled. Lost their lives and their horses escaped and joined wild groups of horses as time went on. But it looks super easy to drive on down with compared to out here where everything is a 24 hour drive to get anywhere. Keith lives near by …amazing ! How many people can say that ??? I’ll let you know if I take the car to Toronto or not. That’s a 5 -6 day drive I think.
Hello sir. Could you please tell me the name of that book at 8:09? I would really appreciate it. I am a huge KEITH RICHARDS and the STONES fan. I have a lot of books on them but not the one that I'm asking about.
That guitar neck thing actually happened to me last year, sort of. I can understand it now. I had a basic pretty cheap acoustic (J&D Brothers), that i tuned to open E to try Jumpin' Jack Flash and Gimme Shelter that way. After that one of the main structural ribs supporting the top broke, and guitar started to sound like grunge guitar. Open E tuning creates too much tension for a cheap guitar.
There's a version out there of Mick singing "You Got The Silver" so it wasn't really lost or wiped. They released the one with Keith's vocal simply because it was the better of the two versions.
You Got The Silver is a great song and I prefer Keith singing it more than Mick , the last time I saw the Rolling Stones was in Cardiff 2018 and Keith did the song live while Jagger was having a little break backstage, I don’t remember the other song that Keith sang but he sang two songs that night and if I’m totally honest with you, I saw the Stones play Wembley in 1990 and like I said the second and last time I saw them was in Cardiff Principality Stadium in 2018 so that’s nearly 30 years later and in my opinion they were much better in 2018 then what they were in 1990, I know it sounds a bit crazy but believe me it’s the truth, I’m really enjoying listening to these Let It Bleed documentaries and when this one is finished I’m gonna watch part 3. Thank you for posting them onto RUclips for us to watch buddy.
@@mrfugazi6713 thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience. We get to pocket all of them and share thoughts. Thanks for your support, and keep on watching, plenty to absorb! cheers
Brian also played solid rhythm on you cant always get , parachute woman , if course expectations and on the telecaster for jumping jack, if he was out of tune or playing shitty you'd hear it , he freed kieth up to chop and riff on the rest of the tunes . Listen to him start and set the rhythm of you cant always get ,the mark of a good rhythm player is you really don't notice him under everything else. He played all the 69 tunes in 67 tour of Europe. It would have been cool to have Brian on the 69 tour doing percussion and harp and the vox organ or fender roads, along with mick Taylor. Brian jones vould have played with ian Stewart in the back like blondie chapin does today
Thanks for posting that man. I feel Brian suffers ongoing character assassination even in death. I'm simply fan of the entire Stones canon. I don't differentiate. Look at all the 'guest' musicians who have contributed on their albums. Well posted and written. Gold rings on you my man!!
@ Steve Flip Side CT Just a reply here to your messages from yesterday. I can’t seem to get the STP videos up on this photo so I’ll reply here. I went ahead just for fun and tried to make a list of the top songs from the Stones golden mid ( protein period ) I went ahead and just for kicks extended the full mid period to 1974 So from 1968 to 1974 I came up with a personal list of 50 songs just off the top of my head. ( not checking …just tried to remember what they were all called ) I came up with 20 songs from 1968 and 1969 20 more from 1971 and 1972 To make 40 And 10 more from 1973 and 1974. I call it the FULL EXTENDED MID PERIOD. :) 50 songs wow! I threw in a few non released songs like this song you start this video with and a few favourite important others like I’m hers, she’s mine by Johny Winter. That seems to be for Brian at Hyde Park in 1969. Damn it just in writing this I thought of a few more I’d want in there. A few chuck berry tracks. Bye bye Jonny from 1972 STP Of course lots had to be cut in making this list of 50 songs. I think I can make it to 60 now at most. But my 50 covers a lot. I don’t know the reason why and travelling man. Sway is in there too. I didn’t use any of the songs from the Exile extended length album but my favourite loving cup original alternative version ( love both of these loving cups and I have them both on there ) I also got on turd on the run for Keith and I got on LET IT LOOSE because I know you said you love that one from exile. That one definitely hits D for Down as Keith has commented. This is just a track list and not a music collection. I can easily see how it could become 60 or 70 tracks now….but I wanted to stick with a GOLDEN 50. On the Jag. I call her my Black Lena after Keith’s own British car which was a 1965 Bentley. His Blue Lena. Both have V8s too. I think I’ll keep it for a few years to see if values go up. I’ve put a lot into this car and you are right there was a hell of a lot of drama and hassle involved. 1 year 5 months and 2 days it was out of my hands and in a shop that finally went bankrupt and changed names while it was still in there. When the new 1,400 dollar winter tires went missing right out of the car or were not put back in the car and then they were still test driving her for two weeks and we got a call in the morning from the police about their test driving with only my plate on her and not their own shop plate with shop insurance and the police wanted to stick the car in a compound that was the absolute last straw and I just went in there and took my car back out. And never went back. No bills were sent. A few upset words were exchanged but not much. Their story about what happened to my winter tires kept changing. Nothing became of it and I think they were just happy to have my car gone. With her out and in my hands again I’m just happily maintaining her. Originally I was sold on this jag when I found out it has a factory Mercedes Benz transmission rather than a Jag transmission and an Eaton M112 supercharger on the 4.0 L V8. That motor has been totally replaced and it running like a top and I’m keeping the oil dead on and extremely clean. I did provide a large cash deposit and the shop did keep that. And I’m missing the winter snow tires. But all in all I’ll consider my self lucky and just hold on to my car. You are right it has also been quite a bit of fun. :) Hope to make it to TORONTO safely and maybe visit New England around fall or Christmas time. -Greg Alberta Canada P.s. I’m not exaggerating…your videos are getting better and better like a fine wine with time. I found the last few I seen really exciting!!!! And methodic !!!! Almost tranquilizing and meditative but yet energetic raw and rock and roll bad ass exciting and they really swing!!! Most of all very informative but they also swing man !!!! A great homage to Rock n Roll at its very best !!! These video documentaries will stand the test of time and be the go to place as the reference point for Stones History. :) You have my highest admiration!!!!! And gosh they are A LOT OF WORK!!!!!! You are putting 10-20 years into a little bottle.
thank you so much Greg! I hope maybe when you make your New England trip you are down in the lower CT area to meet up. you got such a powerful dedication to the music, great to see that. I always wanted a Jag, then found out how much the tune ups were. way out of my league. thanks for the acknowledgments and praise. I hope one day, maybe I can assist with a Major doc package as a consultant. I also feel these are great archives that can teach new fans fair weather fans how to listen and appreciate them. Then again, for the deep fans that needs to grow more. cheers and best in school! strive
@ Steve Flip Side CT It took me a while to cotton on to what CT was but I have understood what that is and where it is for a while now. But I’ll check a map and get to know more about lower CT. A road map and get familiar with it. If I have the Jag in Toronto and it is running good I’ll come down once I’m in New England. This could be in the FALL or around Christmas time. Someone told me once that CT has two geographic sides. I’ll have to check a map out right now to get familiar. New England is exciting for me because of Stephen King and his place up in Maine. Down in Maine for us here up in Canada. There is the Boston thing too and a lot of high profile Colleges. I don’t think I could do New York. But CT I think I could do that. Keith and his wife have a place there too come to think of it and one of my favorite schools is there as well. I want to hear the North Eastern accent. That may sound sort of corny but I want to hang out and experience it. Thank you very much! I look forward to it! Everything at University of Toronto is totally shut down and locked up around Christmas time and into January so not much of a good vibe or much to do around there during the holidays. Just the student centre at Hart House but only locker rooms and showers are open, not much going on. I did find the off time there boring and hard. I think a lot of people just got away from there for a while and went to see family back home or went on a trip. I wasn’t in a dorm but they even kick everyone out of the dorms during the holidays! I’d be glad and honored to come down to lower CT!
Thanks for sharing. Pronouncing was / is not my concerns. If I have time I look it up. By how folks pronounce is not any concern on my side. Examples like, the words "parameter" or "Schedule" is said differently, but the point is I know what the person is talking about.
Thank you for the gift. Did you send me your email via PAYAPL. Did you see a message in PAYPAL responding? IF not I may not have your email and you need to get me that. I really admire Al Cooper. Such a refined dignified Southern man with a great sense of humour, impeccable timing and ear as good as mine lol. But I did feel sorry for him in this instance. 4 albums produced in a year, exhausted and wanting to relax in the UK. Bad food and weather and all lol. Then the Stones press gang him into producing Let it Bleed. No pressure. What a dude. Make him POTUS 😂😂❤ Yeah I know - its just my imagination running away with me

@ Steve Thank you for taking me under your wing a bit. I just found out last month that my biological father has about six months to live. No big deal but I have to call him up to say hi. At least I got to do that much. But we aren’t close and we don’t really know each other and now he’s gonna croak and die. I guess we never got to know each other after all but it don’t bother me. He’s him self and I’m me. I hope that doesn’t sound cold but I don’t know the guy past hello. He’s really nobody to me and he never really has been. My grandfather was my Dad’s role. We had to kick him out of the fold when I was 4 years old. We drove him away. Actually he drove himself away we just made it happen and got him good and gone. But it is nice to have a male role model that you can sort of look up to. Nice to have that and some common interests too of course. I guess my Dad isn’t going to be here after Christmas ohhh well ! Too far to go back and I can’t visit him anyways. But doctors are sometimes wrong. He’s gonna be laid up in Vancouver in a hospital for a while I think. The END is near. HIS days are numbered. About the mechanics on the Jag. I can do some of it myself and I got a friend now who is a mechanic and I got a good shop to go to now. I can’t get some parts for not too much. Not as bad or hard as I thought it would be but the BMW was better. I’d go back to German Cars after this given the chance but maybe my number pick would be a Japanese automobile. Just more dependable and lower maintenance and a bit cheaper to own and maintain. But this thing I have now is the last of a long era. The very last true Jag. They made them out of Soda Pop cans after that. Never in my life did I ever think I’d own one. It wasn’t my dream car. All in all --if you forget about the complete engine replacement-- not too bad. Just got to keep up with all the little things as they come up and keep the oil new and clean. I could push the BMW - just a little 320i - nothing special - it was an absolute little tank -- but this car needs to be babied more. Slightly more delicate and refined. Refined isn’t quite the word for it- it feels sort of old fashioned and hand made. Like an old one engine airplane that you need to get out there and spin the big propellor in the front for it to get going or something that you need to keep tip top for it to do its thing. Old school old fashioned DNA. They need care love and attention. The BMW I could just push the hell out of it and it would come back for more. This car feels more like a hobby almost.
Family is always #1 for me, but I know there are so many dynamics others have that cause disruptions and chaos. best of luck with your dad. I honestly am so far removed from engines and cars. But sounds like you are deeply involved and always great to have a hobby. thanks for sharing
@ Steve Just a short reply. I’m starting to look forward to having a car I don’t have to worry about as much. Like a Buick or a Toyota or something. I grew up with Buicks and GM products working at nice little new and used GM dealership. Uncle Ed was the parts manager. Tim was a good friend ( their top mechanic ) and he was such a sweet warm guy. Good to have a friend like that who is a head mechanic. Tim died last year unfortunately. They found him dead on his sofa when he didn’t show up for work. He was old and should have retired at 60 or 65 but he kept going past 75. Told me that’s how he would go too. The head sales manager such a sweet guy Bernie and also a part relative of mine too got me did much to get me into THE STONES! Buicks and Stones. He also played electric guitar locally. Was in a band. He told me yes of course I like them ...they are my age! And he could play a few of their songs. He got out of it for a while and then when he retired he went back to playing guitar. Then he went back to selling cars again too. Such a sweet guy! He ended to dead in his office one Friday afternoon. The place was one big family. Donuts and coffee. Lots of fun back in those days. I always got to wash and drive and gas up all the brand new cars. That experience kind of makes you not think much of new cars and sort of value the old gems. Nobody that worked there would ever buy a new car even the owners wouldn’t. That’s what they pushed but they wouldn’t take the medicine themselves except for a taste. Fixing them was their other business and they didn’t need to fix their own much because they were always well maintained. So I got the idea that you got yourself an old GEM and kept it well maintained. Because that was the dope they pushed but they weren’t on the dope themselves. Smart! Easy to do that too when you have access to the best used vehicles that come in and you got all parts at cost and access to the shop and tools and all the professional know how is around there If you can’t do it yourself. It was GREAT! In that one aspect they had the tiger by the tail and they knew it too. I learnt a lot about cars from age 14 to about 20 or 21. Know exactly how a band new car feels and how a good used GEM feels. What to look for and things like that. On that note when I came back here I found an incredibly good used Lexus SUV for my mother. We got her old car sold off privately. Nice to have a car you don’t need to worry about much and I’m starting to wish for that too. Bernie used to say SPANKY ( that was the nick name he gave me ) spanky ....after a while in being in a place like this selling and fixing cars you get real real cagey he would say. Haha A guy would come in from some other town who purchased a new car from another dealership and it was still on warranty and it was 4:00 pm on a Saturday and he’s say to them first of all we are closing soon and second of all the shop isn’t open anyways and lastly why don’t you take it back to where you got it from is you got it new out of town and not from us ? You never seen that guy get in his car and blow out of there so fast in your life !!! Hahahaha I said to him one time Bernie what happens if some gets a new car on lease and they drive the shit out of it and wreak it and bring it back. ???? He goes we take them out back and kick their asses SPANKY !!! Hahaha Good old Bernie !!! Haha
Do not watch anymore please. You are one of those who just does not get it. That is such a warped comment if that is how you interpret. The friggin Stones. nothing else. They all made it happen, this is just info that is always known. Damn that is just what I hate about doing these.
@@FlipSideCT Steve - I dig you, your passion and your work. I utterly and totally respect the work that Mick and Keith in particular have done through the Stones from the start to the present day. They are my favorite band and a lot of this is due to the Twins. They are worthy of the praise that they have received in music history and its clear that you value Mick and Keith a great deal. Please keep that in mind as you read the balance of my comments. Whoever puts themselves out there (like you do) and adds the final comment "let me know whatever your are thinking" has to expect feedback from all perspectives. Maybe Tom's "hate Brian" question is a bit harsh, but as someone who values everything and everyone in the Stones, I have noticed that you do take a semi negative Brian tone in your videos. I've asked you about it in the past and you honestly replied that you really don't know that much about Brian. (which I appreciated your honesty) Your amazing videos also cover a period where either Brian's influence and impact on the band is either in decline (like it is on Let it Bleed) or non existent because he had passed away. (see your vids on Exile, Sticky, Black and Blue, etc) I really hope that you will explore the essential Brian era of the Stones in future videos. I understand how many gravitated to the Stones from the Beggars period onwards and its songs and albums. When one does this, they essentially see the Stones for what they are then and that is a Mick and Keith outfit and it helps form a narrative that excludes Brian from memory. They just see him as some loser who by now was a drug addict, who lost his girl, barely contributed and who is dead shortly after. But Brian is so much more then this and I'm afraid when you start video bio's in varying order (which there is nothing wrong with doing and your right) and you don't have a full understanding of Brian's contribution or the reasons that helped led to his decline, it is easy to say things like "they were not dumping on Brian, Mick bent over backwards to accomodate Brian, Brian created the situation, they didn't push him away" I think one of the worst things Mick and Keith have done is how they have spoken about Brian since his death. It's funny because the first real discussion Mick or Keith had on Brian after he died was in 1971 when Keith did his Rolling Stone interview. Anita sat in as well and both spoke very warmly about Brian. But something really changed from about 89 onwards. They spoke coldly about him and started to minimize his actual impact or influence. That's their right, but I think it hasn't done anything positive to protecting the bands legacy and Brian's vital part in it. Imagine Keith rambling about Stu forming the Stones and that he works for Stu. Laughable. Even Stu is on the record saying Brian formed the band and he was the first guy he hired. Mick has talked many a time about being immature back in the later years of Brian. Brian gave as good as he got and Brian was weaker than the other two. But he paid the ultimate price and died. (either through his own stupidity or by another's hand) We know that Brian wasn't reliable and didn't show up. But we also know that when he did, they would unplug him, talk down to him, etc. Also, Brian would frequently not even be told that a session was happening. Sure the Anita breakup was a major blow to Brian, but who wouldn't take it hard when your girlfriend leaves you for your fellow band mate, and the one whom you are closest to. Which one of us could actually be comfortable in such a situation But what rarely gets talked about that led to Brian's downfall happened much earlier. Well before Anita even. Mick and Keith were committed to building something and they had the song writing skill, basic musician chops and stamina to keep things going. They had a business mindset and its one reason why they gelled so well with Andrew because he had that top of mind as well. Brian was completely different. He was an artist who could create on the fly, engage with other artists, present himself with great style, dabble in whatever substances available to experience new things and be seen with beautiful women. Mick and Keith were none of that in the early years. Brian had no care for the business side as long as he was able to benefit from its successes. He also didn't have the stamina of Mick and Keith. But make no mistake, Brian added incredible value. Take 1965 for example. The Stones made 3 studio albums that year (imagine all the studio sessions required) then did 11 tours that featured a whopping 226 live shows in Asia, North America, Australia and Europe. All of that will take a toll on anyone. And while all of this is happening, while Brian is enjoying himself at night with sex and drugs, Mick and Keith are writing songs. Resentment set in but Mick and Keith knew they still needed him because when they would be trying to get a song they wrote together, in would walk Brian and almost instantly would elevate the song or take it another direction that neither they would have thought of or lets be frank, were capable of doing at that time. Just imagine being the Twins, you write a great song but then struggle to pull it together. Then Brian stumbles in, hears what is happening and adds his touch to it and there it is. I am convinced that this annoyed Mick and Andrew in particular cause they knew they needed his talent, style and fan base. Keith in those days would balance both sides. He'd write songs with Mick but would also work on music with Brian and hang. By 1965 Brian is already not happy with the music (going on the record), but he loved the lifestyle it afforded him. Most people know little about Brian Jones because 1) they really got into the Stones during their classic rock n roll period and 2) because I don't think Mick and Keith have done enough to elevate that period. I get why Mick doesn't and that because of the whole Allan Klein fiasco. But Brian formed the band, it was Brian's love of blues that he turned Keith and Mick onto (BTW- Brian introduced Keith to Robert Johnson's work) and it was Brian who gave the bad their style and swagger (aka the bad boys of rock n roll that lives on to this day) No doubt he had massive flaws (unreliable, fathered multiple kids, did everything to excess, etc) but why the hell does he get such a bad rep for it and others get a pass? (keith went overboard, failed to show up for sessions, mick had multiple kids with various women all into much older and supposedly mature ages) I'm not excusing his flaws, I'm just explaining them. What other 20 something year old who finds massive success through his work wouldn't go over the line. Brian just didn't survive. Does that give people the right to just focus on his flaws and frame him as some pathetic person? Worse yet, why are the two most influential bandmates leading the charge to paint such a narrative. Sorry for the long post and I appreciate your great work. I look forward to you doing more videos and hope, that if you go into the Brian Jones years, you start from the start and work forward. I think you will earn a greater appreciation for Brian then. Health and happiness my man. Cheers
@@deeg8849 thank you Dee for your insight and comments. a lot here, yes. I rather not at all go down any Brian discussion, and like I say, it is why I am shying away of not dwelling into the early Stones. I love every piece of work they did, and by every band member. We all know most facts of their history and what and how it went down. Positive and negative. I am not going to sit here and defend myself on how much I think Brian contributed or did not. The band became divided, plain and simple. I do not join either side, just dig the music. They all made huge mistakes and their were at a abnormal level of the common person. you got me wrong in any Brian like or dislike, it is just how you interpret it all. The time period I covered is not a happy and upbeat time for him, that is what it is. 1962-63 a real happy and positive moving chap. yes indeed.
Hey Tom, I think people are kinda jealous of him in the sense that they see themselves in him in the vulnerable ways, but the blues that they were all into he was the one turning them all onto. Brian was like hendrix in the sense that no one really gave a genuine helping hand , like they were so beautiful it was reassuring to see them cut down a notch.
all I think is that Brian is vital initial early musical visionary and the vital musical performer to the stones. Without these two elements, the Stones don’t get started nor do they survive the early years. Anyone who thinks an early Jagger Richards “Herman hermits” vibe group with songs like “tell me”, “as tears go by” , singer not the song” would have long term stating power without Jones charisma is kidding themselves. I’m not totally dissing Keith and mick, but Nrian is vital to the early stones sound and style
PART 2 I am thinking to keep to Donators only (3.2 hours long). be well!

Yes something has to be said about MICK’S vocals They are sooo good on so many tracks!
I love how they found that song Love in vain
It was found in an old attic or something and then it got put out and released and the STONES just picked it up and decided to cover it ! This is my understanding of how it came out. COOL let’s cover that one from Robert Johnson it just got rediscovered! And then covered by the greatest rock n roll band in the world.
So nice of them to do that !
Another Great episode !! Well done as always.
a pleasure Mike, ty! appreciate the comments. Glad someone mentioned to me it was blocked!

Never have I ever heard Ry Cooder sound like Keith, or even play a riff sounding like Keith. Ry has a very distinct style. Besides most of the time he’s ripping off old blues men 😂 so I’m skeptical of his claims that Keith out right ripped him off
not sure where you are going with this. Ry is Ry, etc. They meet, they play, they record, they walk away. Who is comparing, and why?
It's a common trope that Keith "ripped off" Ry. I also don't buy it

When you can hear Bill he lifts the whole band
We know how great he was! 100% for sure......missed him plenty.

Looking at a map now I can just take 91 or 5 all the way down from the border at Quebec Canada.
Hello Wiiliam. that is Rolling Stones Gear: All the Stones' Instruments from Stage to Studio
by Andy Babiuk and Greg Prevost
That guitar neck thing actually happened to me last year, sort of. I can understand it now. I had a basic pretty cheap acoustic (J&D Brothers), that i tuned to open E to try Jumpin' Jack Flash and Gimme Shelter that way. After that one of the main structural ribs supporting the top broke, and guitar started to sound like grunge guitar. Open E tuning creates too much tension for a cheap guitar.
We always cringe a bit when open tuning, especially with our main good guitars. thanks for sharing!!
There's a version out there of Mick singing "You Got The Silver" so it wasn't really lost or wiped.
They released the one with Keith's vocal simply because it was the better of the two versions.
yes indeed.
@@FlipSideCTReally? I've never heard it. I'll find it though lol

Just a reply here to your messages from yesterday. I can’t seem to get the STP videos up on this photo so I’ll reply here.
I went ahead just for fun and tried to make a list of the top songs from the Stones golden mid ( protein period ) I went ahead and just for kicks extended the full mid period to 1974
So from 1968 to 1974 I came up with a personal list of 50 songs just off the top of my head. ( not checking …just tried to remember what they were all called )
I came up with 20 songs from 1968 and 1969
20 more from 1971 and 1972
To make 40
And 10 more from 1973 and 1974.
I call it the FULL EXTENDED MID PERIOD. :)
50 songs wow!
Bye bye Jonny from 1972 STP
Of course lots had to be cut in making this list of 50 songs.
Originally I was sold on this jag when I found out it has a factory Mercedes Benz transmission rather than a Jag transmission and an Eaton M112 supercharger on
the 4.0 L V8.

It took me a while to cotton on to what CT was but I have understood what that is and where it is for a while now.

Thank you for taking me under your wing a bit.

Just a short reply.
Haha
A guy would come in from some other town who purchased a new car from another dealership and it was still on warranty and it was 4:00 pm on a Saturday and he’s say to them first of all we are closing soon and second of all the shop isn’t open anyways and lastly why don’t you take it back to where you got it from is you got it new out of town and not from us ?
You never seen that guy get in his car and blow out of there so fast in your life !!! Hahahaha
I said to him one time Bernie what happens if some gets a new car on lease and they drive the shit out of it and wreak it and bring it back. ????
He goes we take them out back and kick their asses SPANKY !!! Hahaha
Good old Bernie !!! Haha

Why do you hate Brian Jones so much? He was fantastic when he brought his A game.
(see your vids on Exile, Sticky, Black and Blue, etc)
I really hope that you will explore the essential Brian era of the Stones in future videos. But Brian is so much more then this and I'm afraid when you start video bio's in varying order (which there is nothing wrong with doing and your right) and you don't have a full understanding of Brian's contribution or the reasons that helped led to his decline, it is easy to say things like "they were not dumping on Brian, Mick bent over backwards to accomodate Brian, Brian created the situation, they didn't push him away"
I think one of the worst things Mick and Keith have done is how they have spoken about Brian since his death.
Which one of us could actually be comfortable in such a situation
But what rarely gets talked about that led to Brian's downfall happened much earlier.
