I'm not a bass player but I've loved his playing since I was a kid and, like you, noticed the difference in him not being there immediatly. Charlie was right up there as my favorite drummer also and not putting down any of their replacements, they're fine musicians BUT, they ain't Bill and Charlie. RIP Charlie Watts.
"Gimme Shelter", ein außergewöhnlicher Song mit einer großen Botschaft, die auch noch zum Teil auf die heutige, keineswegs Kriegsfreie Welt gelten könnte, also zeitlos ist... Der Aufbau dieses Song's ist grandios und verdient Bewunderung und ist noch immer sehr beliebt... 🎶🎵🎼🌹🔝💯...
And lets not overlook Charlies part ! No rolls 'around the kit', just DAMNING one stroke hits, repeating with passion, starting from the mounted tom down to the floor tom, sounding like an accusatory finger pointing and / or hand banging on the counter top, demanding something be done, telling those in power to not just sit there, 'DO SOMETHING, DAMN IT' !! I can never resist playing air drums, smacking my thigh, every time I hear this song, BIT, BAT, BOOM, BOOM, CRASH. Genius.
I remember hearing Gimme Shelter for the first time and just getting up and dancing…..all of 14 years old and a total Stones freak. Keith was everything - just a genius that made me wanna dance! 17:07 Now at 69 I still get the same shivers from this song - and yes I do get up and dance! Dance my heart out - and sing my heart out! Never occurred to me the Stones would last so long. They are THE ROCK AND ROLL BAND. 🥰❤️🇦🇺👍🏽🎸🎵
@@Boatperson abso-fckin-lutley! I was born in 82. At two y/o I began to understand music. I heard Jumping Jack Flash at 2, still my favorite band 40 years later.
'Satisfaction', for me, is the greatest musical riff ever written and this songs riff challenges it, losing to Satisfaction, but only by 'a nose', as they say at the tracks.
Merry Clayton sang so hard, that voice crack was so good for being a "mistake."(you can hear a whooo! In the isolated track) It's one of the best parts of the song. She sadly had a miscarriage the next day. This song was the perfect song saying goodbye to the 60's. Then Altamont. Thanks Merry Clayton for what you did. The loss of your unborn child later that day or the next. That unborn child is definitely with God.
*Gimme Shelter* is a great song. I bought the original *Let it Bleed* album. I still have that disc. However, there are LOTS of "defining moment" songs. Every generation's youth seems to have a few. This is ONE of ours (Boomers'). For a Gen Z version, go listen to The Warning's classic, written when they were children, either the award winning official 2017 music video, or the Pepsi Center 2023 performance: ruclips.net/video/I5_ooLnsulo/видео.html It's a simple, yet lyrically brilliant bash of social media addiction, written by a band who have mastered social media.
Why destroy perfectly acceptable images with that annoying snow??? I don't get it. It's just as pointless as those distracting subtitles that so many people now use. Sheep. Bye bye.
Merry Clayton? Really? So, it must be Mary Christmas then? I can’t believe people don’t have the basic rules of English composition down? Pathetic. But, yes, it’s a tremendous song.
Stonerz greatest was Hillside Blues / I Don't know Why. Never released off Exile. Gimme Shelter? 😂- its Jagger the mommy's boy song but he does actually sound scared on it and not like a ponce. Hells Angels save your life and you try to rip them off for $50 000 hell he even stole the band. Gimme is what happens when you summon the devil but ain't got the balls to tell him to f... Off. They ran from Altamont. Gimme is a boys song. They paid the Angels what they owed after the 1975 attack on the beach that was broken up by a storm. Taylor always despised them. Listen to him trying to sabotage Stickey Fingers with those crap dud arrangements. It's just your evil eye indeed. They could never get rid of the Jones hex. Bad Karma. A dud band. Under Cover Of The Hype. No Sympathy For The Snatch.
Stones were lucky if they had one good song per album after Wyman quit 82

@@flynnlizzy5469Another glaring omission here is no mention of Mick Taylor whose guitar haunts the track and would not be what it is without him.
Wyman only left the band in 1993!
@@frictionpegTaylor didn't play on this track.
Can't agree with that, I love Bill but they have done some good songs without him. Voodoo lounge is a brilliant album.
It's got my vote as the best Rock song ever.
You are right
And you aren't wrong. 😊
I love it when the harmonica comes through.
The Best from The Best. Thank you
Gimme Shelter 🌟🌟, incredible pover song..I can all day hear that song.. So powerful good 💯
The slow buildup at the start of the song voices then layering in instrument after instrument is brilliant
Brilliant perfection...

I love it!❤

@@Boatperson BTW my 4 y/o likes The Stones but loves The Beatles. So, I'm proud of that.
The greatest piece of music ever recorded, not just the greatest track
I turned 19 in 69. Great song difficult time. What happened to our world!
Hearing about the backstory of this song makes me faith in believing
Midnight Rambler Live is also a great song.
Merry Clayton makes it a great song!
And she lost her babe singing the song😢😢
Merry is phenomenal. Sends shivers up my spine.
It's up there with the best. The Stones in the middle of their golden age. Magic.
The people don't fight. The people with the power do.
I don’t know if it’s the greatest track EVER recorded but it’s surely the greatest track the Stones ever recorded.
Read the part in keiths book where he describes writing the song on a rainy windswept day in london

@@robertcooney1938 The god-part of course - what else?
For goodness sakes with these comments, Mick Taylor does not play on Gimme Shelter, he wasn't even in the band when this was recorded.
Correct, yet Mick Taylor and Ry Cooder did play on the album.
It was Mick on vocals and harp, Merry on vocals, Charlie on drums, and Keith on everything else.
When you hear Gimme Shelter you know the 60's are over...
This song is total Keith. Thumbs up if you have at minimum 4 bootlegs with the Keith Richards vocal.
Kinda left out the most important part of the song (at least for hopeless optimists) - Love, sister, it's just a kiss away.
5 greatest Stones tracks? In the 5 greatest tracks ever.

Great when you point something out and you get it totally wrong. It is Merry Clayton and yes she was born on Christmas day.
@@MrBarrynicholas fantastic ☺️
Great track! Also because Mick Taylor's guitar is essential to it but doesn't get a mention.
Mick Taylor isn't on the track. All guitars are Keith. Taylor played on two songs of Let It Bleed album, Country Honk and Live With Me.
