On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8. - Игры

I had a lot of fun in this one, big thank you Skimatic for helping out with this video. I thought we had to show the Spitfire some love since we kind of wrecked it with the F-22 a few videos ago, Thanks for watching guys, Much Love.
I wonder what wouuld happen if you did the same with the bf 109
IMO, the first generation Miata is the closest you can get to a spitfire in relatively modern cars.

Now we know that we need older fighters to fight 5th gen in dogfights.
That took me way to long to understand
@@christianespinosa9999 it’s just for fun…..in reality, modern jet fighters do not engage in up close “guns range” dogfights…like EXCEPTIONALLY rare….in a close in one circle turn fight, next to nothing would be better than a Spitfire….

So, what did we learn today?
Every plane in existence is obsolete and the spitfire is the best aircraft for dogfighting.
Not really because the raptor is able compete with the spitfire but for props yes the spitfire is the best dogfighter who can say this maverick sayed it all comes down to the pilot in box.
@@delissamurphy9007 Well the Spitfire is the second best thing to the F-22. Good enough for me!
@Essinse no the problem is speed, a jet aircraft would snipe a spitfire with AA missiles or just use speed to evade until an air to air solution is available. no reason to dogfight a fighter with only guns and a prop. it makes more sense with something like an A-6,A-10,Su-25, or god forbid a F-117
Reformer noises intensify

Spitfire has always been the aircraft that I wanted to own like a car, and fly every day. such subtle curves, a classic beauty!

the fact that you can detonate a sidewinder is a small detail that id never think id see but its insanely cool that ED has modeled this. i keep getting amazed by this sim
Tbh I doubt that's what happened. If the sidewinder had exploded, there would have been a much bigger, y'know, explosion.
I think there was probably just some kind of desync or whatever.
It's not modeled he just shot the wing
I guess that will be possible when the damage model comes to the jets though.
@@wurfyy Not necessarily - the motor could probably detonate without setting off the warhead.
@@wurfyy the warhead on the sidewinders isn’t very big, they would have to be pretty close to do damage. That said what usually does the damage versus aircraft is the shrapnel produced and not the explosion. It definitely seems like the sidewinder exploded.
2:24 who knew spitfire had fox-2 capability
I can’t prove it but …

The sidewinder kill was epic

There is something timeless about the Spit. SUCH a good looking aircraft. Those wings... mmmm MM!!
Bro defeated all 4 gen fighters with just a spitfire
"Only the spirit of attack, born in a brave heart, will bring success to any fighter aircraft, no matter how highly developed it may be."

until its an F-22 pilot that just needs to press a button to launch a fox 3 against a 4th gen that hasn't even spotted him. Skill and training is definitely relevant but there is a point where an advantage becomes so much that your skill is irrelevant.
Did he deploy the flares like a smokescreen? 6:10 That could be a neat trick

2:35 breaking news: Spitfire shoots F-16 down with an air-to-air missile
My dad and oldest brother were in the air force, my best friend growing up, his dad was from Britain. We went to so many air shows in the 90s when I was a kid where they had p51's or spitfires there. Such a legendary plane.
Being British I absolutely love how well the spitfire has performed in these fights!! It's a beautiful aircraft!
Technically in a proper tail chasing dogfight the Spitfire beats literally any fighter on earth, the only thing that gets close would be Eurofighters because of how manoeuvrable they are.
@@ripoutyourintestines5099 it would have to be a jet with better low speed maneuverability
Like the raptor.
The Euro fighter is more high speed agility.
Back in the early 1980s I spent some of my apprenticeship rebuilding a flyable Spitfire Mk VIII and a static Spitfire Mk XIV. The Spitfire Mk VIII is currently at Temora NSW Australia and the Spitfire Mk XIV was sold and built into the RR232 city of Exeter Spitfire in the UK.
Never seen an F-15 hit with so many rounds in one pass. Surprised both wings, tail unit, cockpit and a pair of engines didn't all fall to earth in separate lumps.
I was surprised the A-10 didn't make an appearance. Would have been my choice.
I was waiting and waiting for an A-10 :-(
Or the Apache.
Saw a video of someone pitting an A-10 against a P51, didn’t end well for the hog
So I guess if the enemy ever runs out of air-to-air missiles, bring out the Spitfires...
If the jets took the hit and run tactics It may have been a different outcome. They have the power and speed to extend and escape, go high, and do high speed dives at the spit.
Was just about to comment this
They could just go vertical and stay going up until the spitfire stalls out. But this video is just for goofs.
I think that was easily one of the more entertaining bandit unknown fights I've seen.
Had no idea you could ignite missiles that way. Pretty cool!
Pretty sure missiles aren't armed until being fired or just prior to being fired, just in case it falls off the pylon or the plane is shot down. So I am not sure the missile exploded there, but it was super cool nonetheless
@@BlyGuy Guess the round could ignite something.
@@BlyGuy Well there are explosive's in it. The fuse is not sharp, but if you shoot it with an explosive 20mm grenade, you will bring your own sharp fuse.
@@BlyGuy full of low explosive propellant though. That would definitely go off with a bang if hit.
Hit the sidewinder... bet the F16 pilot was thinking " WHA? Son-of-a-........!!! Lol. Your new name is `Lucky shot'...

Freaking amazing. I am still waiting to see you flying an F4-U Corsair!
Arguably the first AIM-9 Sidewinder kill by a Spitfire
I would love to hear the other pilot in communications to hear their reaction to some of the crazy things that happen in dogfights!
Imagine rolling up in the sky with the most advanced near black magic shit you can get and then you get dunked on by a peasant fidget spinner with wings.
And that is why you never get into a knife fight... because you have no idea how good some of the peasants are at high aspect deflection.
@@neighbor-j-4737 ye true that as we clearly saw lol Im not dunking on the warbirds though thats the content I'm subbed to GS for I just love the WW2 and WW1 stuff.
Can you imagine a Spitfire with a Sidewinder "IN" it?
You just saw one...
"Don't want to pull too hard....ooops, pulled too hard". Yup. Did that on the backside of a loop in an SNJ about 15 years ago and it did exactly what your Spit did. Hard 90 Deg snap to the right. Scared the crap out of me. Proof positive that you can stall an airplane in any attitude and any airspeed. A lesson I never forgot. Great video!
8-min in when you splash that F-15 I laughed so hard I almost pee''d myself...EPIC!
Can't recall where I heard it from, but I always remember, "the faster plane, when flown right, will never *lose* a well-fought fight."
You did better than these Zero's pilots in "The Final Countdown" movie :)
To be fair, GS knew he was going to fight jets and knew exactly what tactics to employ to beat them. I doubt those poor Japanese pilots were expecting to face F-14s!

I'm genuinely impressed. Would be cool to see the contra rotating hotrod version of the Spitfire in DCS.
I appreciate the Sky Lawnmower v ??? videos. Very entertaining.
A great video because it highlights that the single most important factor in a dogfight is pilot skill and experience.
Reminds of the line from the British pilot in the movie Iron Eagle 3 where he said if there was only a clear sky the Spitfire could out-fly anything in the air.
How gratifying that must have been; prop plane eating jet planes.
@Growling Sidewinder I suspect the Spitfire fuel tank capacity vs its consumption gives it massively more playtime than the jet. So even if its strategy is simply to stay alive, the jet winds up being the first to run home. 👍
Spitfires were actually notoriously short range in their day, it probably has shorter flight time than anything else it fought in this video depending on afterburner use
I mean, leaving aside the fact that it would probably receive a Sidewinder to the face 5 miles before the merge
@@dsdy1205 Let’s not quibble over minutia… 😉

Spitfire with Sidewinders? Good idea

Seconds later I was eating my hat.
Haha ya well I had some luck on my side there
This was hilarious, but goes to show what a proper dogfighter the spitfire was.
the spitfire is one of the most underrated planes in DCS at least. (no one knew about it till GS decided to have fun)

Looked like the .303s blew up the sidewinder on the F-16. That's kinda nuts.
303 is the dominant air to air weapon in 2 world wars.
those are hispano 20mm cannons not 7mm's tho
spitfire with sidewinders = spitwinder
Watching the underside of the F15 hit by .303 like hail...and at first have no effect...reminds me of .303 during WWII....lots of lead, but not much lethal power. Imagine Battle of Britain with ALL Hurricanes and Spits equipped with 4 20mm cannons instead of 8 .303s
they would tear those Messerschmitt's and Focke wolfs to absolute scraps
tbh I was expecting a 5-0 score but, like, the other way around...
Ur accuracy and flying on just about every plane is very imressive. Id love to do this with a d-13 dora, or a d-9. Minengeschoss shells will tear jets apart.

Spitfire: when science goes too far.
In a world without BVR and AIM-9X, these WWII aircraft would rule the skies!
actually no, a real pilot would never turnfight a piston prop.
nah. you just need some discipline and go for some boom and zoom tactics on prop planes. energy is life and these spitfires dont got a lot of life in em compared to the younger aircraft we have
so care to explain whole F86 Sabre vs MiG-15 that was kinda a thing back in a day ? ...no missiles there ... just guns
@@deathcharge811 yup... whoever flew the jet was either throwing or didnt know what they were doing
Reminds me of the Venezuela coup videos where they had f16s trying to take out incredibly slow moving recon planes. One video an f16 has to basically come to stall speeds to even get a shot.

incredible - the Spitfire is a legendary plane and an object of beauty, but the way it crushes modern planes in dogfights is hard to believe!
Definitely loving the recent variety in content! Keep it up
Since the 40s and later on, pilots had hard lessons on why you don't dogfight a prop fighter in a jet. Mustangs killed 262s, Corsair killed MiG 15s and Skyraiders killed MiG 17s.
Absolutely awesome gunnery skills...

I like it how you need almost half of your ammo to punch a hole into a Fw-190 but 3 bullets and you split a modern jet in two ...
You should totally make a series of this with WW2 planes! I’d watch every single episode
As was once stated - "It is not the plane, it is the pilot"... Good video GS!! Great stuff.
To sum this episode up in four words: why you bully me 😂
2:48 lol that's a first!🤯
I live in the south of England, Boultbee operate their fleet of Spitfires offering joy flights from an airfield less than 2 minutes drive from my house. In the summer I get to sit in the back garden and watch Spitfires fly over several times a day and the sound, the silhouette, and the nostalgia the whole affair induces is something I can't describe in words - it's just something that you can only experience in the flesh. It's nearly US$4,000 for a 30 minute joy ride so I'm squirrelling away a little each week to save up for a flight in a Spit for myself. I've flown in a Hornet, Hawk mk127, Pitts, Chipmunk, Winjeel, Long-EZ, the list is endless, but the Spitfire by far is the aircraft I'm most excited about.
