I would like to point out that, despite there was no general reconstruction of this line since 1970's, this is one of the most quality regional railway sections in Croatia. Maximum speed between stations Bedekovcina and Zabok was, in fact, raised from 40 to 80 km/h couple years ago (it was 40 km/h since early 2000's). The worst part infrastructure-wise is of course section between stations Turcin and Budinscina, but than again, the terrain is very complex there.
The region here in North Croatia is much hillier than I expected, nice countryside on the way! Been once in Varazdin, many years ago, in 2009, visited the city and the fortress, was very nice. Thanks for the video, greetings from a traveller from Germany!

But even here with a small train you highlighted the rolling hills that border upper Croatia, especially the Krapina area, Croatian Switzerland, here where Josip Broz a.k.a. was born. Tito. In another video you highlighted how EU funds renovated the stretch from Zabok to Zapresic. Perhaps the Croatian railways intend to electrify the remaining stretch up to Pragersko. It would be nice to have a direct IC/EC line Graz-Maribor-Zagreb. In the distance you can see Medevnica and therefore Zagreb is not far away. D24 je ziva strava - i terenski i infrastrukturno. Problem je u HZPP-u sto ne uvede bar jedan brzi vlak Zagreb-Zabok-Varazdin sad dok je pruga u vise manje OK tsanju. Sa minimalnim zaustavljanjem dosao bi za sat i 45 minuta, isto kao direktni APov bus ZG-VZ.
This route is in really bad shape, no work done on this route since 1980s, Varazdin is very important city in north of Croatia, region of Zagorje, but region is poorly integrated in to rail network due to lack of investment in to local railways, this entire line lacks proper train protection and signalization, the line was built in mid to late 1800s but saw little investment since it was built, few things in 1980s and even less in early 2000s. Plan is to build a new route from Varazdin to Zagreb, it'll be 97km route, with pre-existing 40km line from Zabok to Zagreb already modernized or being modernized, section between Gajnice and Zagreb main station are being modernized as we speak, with section between Zapadni Kolodvor and Glavni Kolodvor being done now with completion dates set for next year sometimes. The route between Varazdin and Lepoglava will also be modernized and electrified with new signalization installed, this will allow for speeds of up to140kmph on that section of the tracks, and piesta de resistance being new 20km section from Lepoglava to village of Bedekovcina, that section consist of 3 tunnels, 5.5km, 1km and 900m tunnels will be built on the route and allow speds of 120-140 kmph, about as same standard on Zabok-Zagreb route, the journey from Zagreb to Varazdin would be cut dramatically down to 90 min on a local train and 1 hour on an intercity train. Croatian Railways have put up a tender for 6 intercity train sets, roughly €10 million including vat per train. 6 new trains will be bi-mode for Split - Zagreb route, but who knows, perhaps additional bi-mod sets can be bought for Varazdin route too.
only partially, up to village of Konjscina, the route from Zabok to village of Bedekvcina will be fully upgraded and electrified, route beyond that will be updated/light modernization but not electrification. Section of the route from Varazdin to Novi Marof might be modernized, but it is not a priority, whole new route from Zabok to Lepoglava will be constructed, via Bedekovcina, Mace, Persaves, there are 3 tunnels planned on the route, 5,5km, 1km and 900m tunnels and the route will be electrified and of the same standard as one built between Zabok and Zapersic, with projected 120-140kmph speed on the line, allowing intercity train to Varazdin from Zagreb taking only 1 hour. Future Vienna - Zagreb line will go via this route, and it is expected Train from Vienna to Zagreb will take around 4.5 hours max, currently it is over 6.5 hours. The projected cost of the new route is 4.45 billion kuna or €590 million, currently the route is in the planning phase, which should be completed next year, then financial projection and application for EU funding could take another 18 months, following that there'll be a public tender to build the route which could take another 18 months, so you're looking around 2027/8 before first works start on the route, but it is hopped the new route will be fully operational by 2035. He cannot, because the train traffic is currently unexistent there due to reconstruction that will follow in a couple of months. Earlier this year, speed restriction on entire Krapina - Zabok section fell down to 20 km/h. Currently, supstitution buses are running on this line instead of trains.
@@davidczar2978 No, it will be just a basic track renovation (upper rail structure plus rehabilitation of railway crossings, passenger platforms at some stations, swithces, etc) - excluding works on signalization other than ones concerning railway crossings. I guess the maximum speed will be raised from 20-40 to 100 km/h, though. I'm actually happy they chose it will be that way, because major reconstruction would take several years to complete. Our passenger railway operator has in plan to replace old diesel multiple unit trains with new battery and battery electric trains in the near future, so one of those would be perfectly suitable for this line.
all of them will be retired in 2025, there are currently 31 of these train/cars in service, but all of them will be retired by end of 2025, replaced by new koncar built diesel and battery trains.
