Quick note I’m also running open fsr mod as well as open xr tool kit. To achieve my performance. It takes a bit of trial and error to get the right settings for for your pc. Crntl;y getting 45 per eye (TOT 90) FPS with my settings thanks to this. Also check on every update that the files you replaced are still there or just keep replacing them in the bin. Some people have encountered error code 32, when starting dcs. The new windows update or Corsair Icue software might be the problem. If open xr doesn’t work for you you may try reverting to the older windows update or running a repair and having steam vr again.
@@T-Tailer I mean that it should not be possible to load both. The 2nd instance of that dll is going to overwrite the first. For instance copy the 3 files needed for OpenXR (one of which is openvr_api.dll) to DCS /bin folder IT overwrites the DCS openvr_api.dll. Then toggle Open FSR via OvGME, (which also contains an openvr_api.dll) will replace the first one. Note the dates on each file. Sorry if I'm not following.
My man, thank you so much! Got this right after I got my Reverb, and def glad I'm able to disable SteamVR, seemed to be more of an annoyance for sure, and not missing it.
This helped a great deal with my old 7600k / 1080ti setup. I couldn't understand why dcs + wmr + steam all had to run together, all with settings that seem to conflict against each other. Still have to run at about 30% to be playable, but looks a lot better than my original Vive did (screendoor deluxe). Time to upgrade to 3080ti to up the resolution and framerates.......
Already liked and subscribed months ago and this video popped up again. Is this only for those people using WMR headsets and/or people running DCS on steam? pimax seems to need steamvr to run dcs. I also just got quest 3 which I suppose can run without steamvr so these steps you laid out so help
Thanks alot man, out of all videos I've seen on youtube to make a little bit of difference, your video made a big difference to be honest. You got my respect and deserve my subscribe
Should still work yes. One of the files you replace changes what DCS requires to run. It removes the “auto start steamVR” so it will not run. You technically don’t even need steam open or running to run DCS. Just find the DCS.exe file in the “bin” folder of the main install, right click it and either pin to task bar or create a shortcut on your desktop.
Thanks for the guide. The biggest improvement is with the F-14. It had become virtually unusable due to constant stutters since I upgraded my system and VR headset. With this i'm getting between 45-50 FPS on the F-14A Take Off Turkey mission and no stuttering either. In the Apache i'm getting 40-45 FPS on the ground in Syria and 50-60 FPS on the ground in Caucasus's. I tried setting Textures back to high and while there was a big improvement in Syria compared to pre OpenXR from 1-10 FPS - 30-35 FPS it runs smoothly with textures set to Medium. Tried NIS & FSR didn't notice any difference with NIS but sitting in the Apache for 30 seconds with FSR enabled has given me pretty bad nausea. Setup is 10700k, 3080ti, 32gb, reverb G2. Great tutorial thanks.
BTW, in the CTRL F2 in-game menu, do you explain those in any videos? I have no clue what my FPS WAS, but after installing OpenXR, on carrier, I saw 38fps. In-flight, was getting between 40-46fps. Running i9 11,900k, RTX 3080, Reverb G2
And the negatives: Reverb G2 Controllers will not work anymore with OpenXR. Plus operating the settings the OpenXR in game is very difficult. You only get a few seconds to operate the settings before the window disappears.
Is there a difference between Open XR, and Open VR, or are the results the same? Open VR also activates NIS and FSR in text editor. However open vr still launches via Steam VR. Just curious if I should axe open vr and try this. I am on a very modest gtx 1080 with a dpi of 1.4, getting 40 fps in each eye. Not terrible for what i have.
Is this information still relevant ? I have the HP Reverb G2 and am now trying to get VR set up for DCS. I need all the help I can get, especially right now while I cannot see clearly (in process of eye/cataract surgery .. last eye surgery tomorrow ... yay). I am looking for as much detailed and up-to-date information as possible with hope of having an easy transition from TiR5 to VR.
I've had the HP Reverb G2 (v2.0) for 4 months now and cannot get a definitive answer how to use in FS2020, Steam edition. I am after a sequence of what programs to open and when, in a specific order. After months of battling, I'm of the opinion that there is only me in the whole wide world that has FS2020 (Steam Edition) with a HP Reverb G2 headset!!!!
Thanks a lot for this tutorial, I'll need to test it some more but DCS already starts so much faster than with SteamVR. And any extra FPS is always welcome anyways ^^
How do I start DCS? What option do I chose? Also, the website and it looks like the way the program is assembled has changed. Do you plan on making an updated video?
Yes updated video is in the works, for. Ow you can the dcs vr discord, fallow the new manual or join our discord and I can help personally. discord.gg/16agr
I got a jerky laggy result at first. Almost impossible to fly, and a nasty experience when looking down at ground while doing a slow roll. But after puttin Motion Reprojection to "ALways On" I got a butter smooth results. I also set Custom Render Scale to 150% and turned off MSAA in DCS Settings. Barly any shimmering. /Intel i9 + Asus RTX 3090.
Custom Render Scale to 150% ? why? should be 100% !! 150 % is insane - My settings are - Open XR 100% - Reprojection on Auto Download Open XR toolkit - reprojection set at 30 fps - FOV render set to Quality - DCS settings - High shadows and x4 msa = butter smooth
@2:35- where can I get those files now. I've tried to complete your tutorial with their new software- but now when I go to launch DCS, it says no VR Headset Detected. I assume it's because I'm missing those files, but I can't seem to locate them anymore, since they moved over to the new program.
@@T-Tailer I've followed these instructions. From what I can tell, Skatezilla's DCS Updater Utility does not support the Steam version of DCS, therefore- I had to skip step one. In the instructions, they too do not tell you HOW to launch the game- just to "Enjoy DCS." Doesn't tell me if I can launch it through steam, or when the Oculus/SteamVR options pop up, which to choose.
The problem with these guides is 6 months ago the instruction worked now I don't see the step of grabbing the files and placing them in the BIN of the DCS folder. The OCXR_WMR_ACC_v0.6.2.zip step isn't in the instructions and the link to that file isn't available. In either case I can't get this to work and using steam SUCKS. Kind of regret getting the G2 gien the amount of trouble to get optimum performance. Back to the Oculus :)
This works great for me, been looking for something like this for ages, nice one!! One newby question, when in the tool kit, how do you toggle the settings once you are in one of them eg brightness? Am I missing something basic?
Yep, got that thanks. Problem is now, when I adjust a parameter nothing happens? Any ideas? Or is it just the fact that sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't?
hi thank you for the video I followed your tutorial and a couple other tutorials about openxr, I was wondering why none of the people including you show how to launch the sim? When I launch the game steam still takes over, because I have to hit the dcs shortcut inside steam. any suggestions?

Hello! I'm confused Open composite, open xr, open xr toolkit, there are a lot of stuff that I don't understand! Open VR runs auto when I click the game, doing this will be also the same, or I will have to add a lot of steps before starting the game? Sorry for these questions, newbie here!
As the video title suggests the video is outdated now. But the written guide would be your best bet to get it working. To reset from your current state, run a slow dcs repair and open composite to steam. Then start the processes from there.
@@T-Tailer Yeah... @@T-Tailer Thanks for the quick reply! I did the full clean/repair prior, then the system-wide OC, and everything "seems" fine, but DCS won't open in VR, only 2D. Any recommendations?
For me, as GTX1080Ti and Samsung Odyssey Plus user is a gamechanger! If anyone reading this have any doubts and think about PC upgrade its totaly poinless - its not yours PC issue - its SteamVR shit!
steamVR is not shit, the Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR implementation that is well, less perfect (you call it shit). This "mod" is helping you due to FSR implementation where you get upscaling (better clarity) and less taxation (higher FPS), but that doesnt mean that SteamVR is shit.
Thank you for making this video, it is much less overwhelming in video form as opposed to a text document. Is this guide assuming that the only game you ever play period is DCS World? I.E. If I try to use steam to say play Onward, will doing all this break steam for onward? This doesn't seem to be game specific, it looks like it's cutting steam out entirely so WMR won't even load it if you launch any games.
@@T-Tailer So how do you load something like Onward? I would just select it out of the steam library and click "Launch Onward in SteamVR". When you say "It won't launch steam vr automatically for any game" what does that mean? Does that mean it will no longer work, or it still will because I didn't change anything for Onward? In short, how do I continue to play my other steam games, I have tons of them for VR.
@@bryonmiller4326 I would imagine you can open steam vr manually. Top right on steam it says vr click that, also maybe see if onward uses open xr as well.
@@T-Tailer I can't even repair DCS. I don't have a repair DCS option, there is no file like you have for me. Is that because I bought my DCS from steam? So I followed the guide and tried to use DCS Updater by Skatezilla and when I try to clean it from there it gets an error and says "DCS_Updater.EXE is Mission or Corrupt". Am I the only one who can't get this working? I'm stuck with not even being able to repair the damn software from the very beginning of the material because the options are either non existent or simply do not work. Does this mean I'd have to actually re-install nearly 200 gigs of DCS files just to get this installed?
The link to the download does not look like that in the video. In the link, it takes you to another site with more links. SO, what the heck am I supposed to download? Nothing that I have downloaded has the files you reference in the video.???? Confusing to say the least.

Controls no, skins if they are in program files then I think so. But if they are in saved games they should be safe. You can use ovgme to install most skins that will help with reinstall if you lose any. It will also give you a list of what it wants to delete.
So I did this and it worked great. Now I have switched to the standalone version of DCS this morning on a new drive. Now I can not get the standalone DCS open beta to launch in anything but Steam VR? I have checked all the settings over and over, just keeps launching in steam VR. Yet I still have the steam VR version of DCS open beta on separate drive and it launches with open xr no problem? What am I missing here?
I've got the exact same problem. The Steam version works superbly with OpenXR but not the desktop version. All my purchased modules are on the desktop version too :(

Yup, the video is outdated as the title suggests, however the description has the link to the new manual and will be able to guide you on the new way. Feel free to join the discord link for extra support.
You should run the G2 at 50% in SteamVR for full resolution. You mentioned running it 80%, so that's a hefty 160% supersample. If you then switch to WMR at a true 100%, you SHOULD expect a massive FPS increase. Are you sure you're comparing the same settings correctly?
DCS requires Steam vr by default and takes its resolution from steamvr. my WMR Headset display is set to Best quality But this tutorial is breaking away from steam vr. which allows you to use WMR and Openxr instead of steamVR, so you can super sample and keep high fps. I super sample because reverb at native res is just not as nice lol and if you could super sample and keep 45 per eye why wouldn't you? hope this clears up why the video was made. Thanks for watching.
@@T-Tailer you wouldn't because 45 FPS is terrible if you notice the artifacts. You can't even turn/move your head and spot/ID at the same time with that jerky crap if you have good quality eyes and occipital lobes. If it all blurs together and looks smooth/good to be you, you're lucky (I guess). 60-90FPS isn't always perfect, but is FAR better than 45. Also, FPS isn't "per eye". If DCS (or FRAPS, Afterburner, etc) says 45 FPS, it is 45 FPS. You don't double it because you have two eyes, it's not resolution. When I see DCS say 90-120 FPS, I'm not getting 240 FPS between both eyes, I'm getting 90-120. I appreciate the effort you put into this video, It's just still not clear to me if you're comparing apples to apples as far as settings and the actual resolution pushed to the headset goes. Were you testing a 160% supersample in both situations? That'd be settings of 80% in SteamVR and possibly 160% in WMR. So you may need to set different percentages to measure the same pixels.
@@Specter0420 I'm getting 45FPS per eye, 2 eyes 45 + 45 = 90FPS that's the max the headset goes too. I'm getting max fps the headset can go to while using 90% resolution. The reverb dose not give you 60 or 90 per eye. its 45 per eye 2 eyes = to 90s HZ total.
@@T-Tailer you're incorrect. Go ahead and set minimum settings and maybe undersample, press right Ctrl+Pause to display FPS. If you don't see 90, you need to under sample more. I have the reverb G2 and the index. I've seen it say 120 frames per second with the index and 90 with the G2. When you get 90, put the goggles on and lean around. You'll be in awe at this smoothness if your brain is quality enough to notice.
I seriously think that there is no performance gain at all, but people just set a lower resolution without realizing it. 100% in openxr might be something different entirely vs 100% in steamVR
The res number to % is the same between both for me. I got better perf and no more flashy screen when loading. If you don’t get anything from it then it’s up to you to pick what you want.
Why I can't see the Startup & desktop setting? I just have the Audio & Speech, Environment, Headset display, Uninstall? Do we have different WMR versions or what?
I had the same problem, maybe try updating windows first other. The way I fixed it however was to uninstall WMR then plug my headset back in which prompted a windows update... I could see the other options after the update
well, it works. but infortunately no performance boosts for me. straight out of the box installation cost me 10 frames performance. tried playing with the settings. upscaling does manage to get it back up to get a steady 45, but no further than that (yes, measured with reprojection mode to off). in wmr, with projection mode off, i get 55 to 60 frames. wich gives me some headroom when setting reprojection mode on. back to wmr for me i''m afraid.

@@n1njat0rak47 The Q2 operates VR itself. This won't help you. This is simply to get away from Steam VR inefficiency, use by Reverb and other WMR headsets. It is actually a really lousy headset. I tried it for a week. What is your connection method to the computer? Wireless or USB. The USB has to be really good to start with.

Great video thankyou for this, since I have DCS World installed within Steam, is this still possible if I create a shortcut to the main executable?

Just tried this today with my G2. WOW! PROGRESS! THANKS! Now to just dial it in

It won’t launch steam vr automatically for any game but dcs is the one that won’t require. Other games still will u less you change there files too.
@@T-Tailer So how do you load something like Onward? I would just select it out of the steam library and click "Launch Onward in SteamVR". @@T-Tailer Thank you! I just got it running in opencomposite, the zip file is not needed anymore..
You F,,,, Beauty This is amazing !
DCS requires Steam vr by default and takes its resolution from steamvr.
my WMR Headset display is set to Best quality
But this tutorial is breaking away from steam vr. which allows you to use WMR and Openxr instead of steamVR, so you can super sample and keep high fps.

You are already not using steam, unless you are using DCS from Steam. Start it with the in game folder executable, without using Steam VR.
@@icecold9511 i dont really understand what you mean? i dont use dcs on steam so i never use steam vr with it?
@@n1njat0rak47
The Q2 operates VR itself. This won't help you. This is simply to get away from Steam VR inefficiency, use by Reverb and other WMR headsets.
Your problem is likely caused by Q2 sharing video and data via the same connection. My G2 has a direct video connection to the graphics card, and Q2 doesn't do that.
It is actually a really lousy headset. I tried it for a week. What is your connection method to the computer? Wireless or USB. The USB has to be really good to start with. And G5 Wireless is easy to interfere with and requires a better router than most.
It seems your bottleneck is the hardware side, the headset. I consider the Q2 to be a starter headset and jokenly call it the VR gateway drug. It gets people trying VR, but is a low end device. It doesn't do well with the good games.
You say it is now a bit out of date, in what way and do you have a link to what is current?
The download procedure is different now. All in the description is the new manual
I followed your instructions. Reviewed the steps 3 times, but SteamVR loads when I launch DCS. I can't get it to stop loading.
Are you on steam or standalone. And try running another repair and putting the files back in the bin
@@T-Tailer Sorry, I am on stand alone open beta. I have it working now, but the WMR view goes black when DCS loads, and the headset is black, but if I move the headset around I can see it move in the DCS window.
Join the discord link in the description and I can help you, over voice.
So how do I do the clean/repair on steam? No Repair DCS executable there.
I believe you might need to use the command prompt but I’m not sure for steam. You may try verify file integrity.
Hi everyone, I need help with opencomposite menu in VR. I press the hotkeys but the menu does not display. I hane no clue why not. It worked only once but can't do it anymore. OpenXR Demo works OK. Any clue? tls.
Before for it to work for me I hat to have open xr tool kit beta checked but I don’t know if that still a thing.
It doesen't work for me. At first it was still launching Steam VR even if I unchecked it in Mixed Reality Portal settings. Then I uninstalled Steam VR and now it is starting DCS but stops on black screen abd DCS never loads and my screen in VR is going back to cliffhouse.
Make sure to run the repair, my friend had a similar issue. After repair re input he files in to your bin folder
@@T-Tailer my version doesen't have repair option in start menu.

same issue here
At first it worked but since the last update of DCS, it force Steam VR to start. I did a another repair of DCS but Steam VR still starting.
Hi, Where can i get the open composite files as they arent at the location shown?
Ya they have changed the processes. Video is out of date as title suggests. The written guide is your next bet.
Don't know what version your running but MR windows does not allow me to change settings
had the same problem. He's using Windows 11 and after I updated to Win11 it worked as well for me.
@@thierryschwank2155 got it working, had to reload everything
Can the Quest 2 also venefit from this? I use the quest via steamVR not oculus link.
I don’t believe so, it works for headsets that require steam vr to run games.
i would defenitely run DCS through Oculuslink and not SteamVR. SteamVR has very shitty GPU utilization and reprojection performance. It can also cause stutters and visual artifacts if you dont meet the required fps.
@@dyren7437Totally agree, that has been my experience. Happens that I use the software called Virtual Desktop, it works with steamVR only. My computer and headset are a different locations.
@@Osvaldo_Oz oh wow that sounds like a horrible experience😂
At least DCS isnt a FPS because that latency would be killing i could imagine.
@@dyren7437 latency is not an issue at all. i have gigabit internet up/down at both locations and wifi 6 router
i feel stupid asking this but this doesnt work with the steam version right?
It does, but it’s a little different. Guides in description might help
It started to crash or going low on fps. Anything changed? It was good until i started playing today after 1 month
Been consistent for me, I don’t run any mods ether.
How do I start the game now? If Steam isn't used now how do I start it in VR?
exactly
I cannot get Mixed Reality to see my Oculus rift... do I need to delete the oculus software?
Doesn’t work with oculus.
What abt if you have full body tracking
Daft question as I cannot find any help on this (spent days researching this).
Using openxr with the re7 mod on rifts, after a while the image on the left lens freezes, but the right lens carries on fine, anyone had this problem???
I would not advise using open xr with rift it isn't meant for i.
hi, does this still work if you select 60hz on the g2?!?
I believe so
i dont get it work with my valve ... game starts but my valve is off and i see hands in DCS .... HANDS IN DCS MAIN MENU
I’m not sure it it would work with a valve
Thanks god, at last I can forget this steamVR crazyness. Working very well! 10600K + AMD 6800XT 32GB RAM, 80FPS, so I lock it 45FPS reprojection and my live is sunny. Anyway at last, I can tell this stupid machine how many FPS I want in reprojection! OpenXRToolkit rulez!
if you have dcs steam version does this not work ??
It will but you will need to assess dcs from your bin folder
Wow amazing
Will this work with a Pimax? Worked wonders for my G2...Nice video, man. Subscribed.
I don’t believe so, but apparently open xr tool kit will work.
What if I purchased DCS from steam? Do I need the desktop DCS version?
I have. Only tried it with stand-alone I’m not to sure.
But all your modules change over to standalone if you do switch, you have to link your steam account on the ed website
the file structure should still be the same. Its the exact same game but just located in a different folder on your system. Same steps apply.
I have a quest 2, should I try this software?
I'm not to sure. If the quest requires Steam vr then give it a shot, but if the quest doesn't need steam vr to run then you wont need this.
I tried it and got half the frames of SteamVR. Which is rather odd.
It does not show me these files that need to be in the bin folder. I use the right link but the download does not show me these files. Does anyone know where to find them?
As the title suggests the video is out of date now, but if you start with a repair and fallow the steps layer out in new written guide it will outline what to do.
