that guy was very quick and billy was brilliant at this game. Dick Clark is a legend that will never be forgotten. He made everything worth watching. If he was on a show, you knew it was 1) a great show 2) very well produced 3) a ratings winner
Billy Crystal could easily be the greatest player in the history of this game. His mastery of context and nuance in language is simply phenomenal.
Other than Dick Clark himself of course. Billy Crystal has him on speed, Dick Clark paints clearer pictures clue-wise.
@@chrismc410 Ummm…he’s the host, soooo……😮
Billy Crystal is by far the BEST Pyramid player EVER! Perfect clues for whatever subject came up.
Billy deprived the guy of the winner's hug. And the guy was searching for it.
Billy Crystal had the perfect demeanour for this show because although he could be hilarious when the clues he had to give were conducive to that,he was intense as well.
Yeah true! Him... Betty White... Nipsey Russell... Vicki Lawrence... Stuart Damon... Charlie Siefert... they always gave great clues.
dick clark was the best host of this show. he really took it seriously. his "GO" from off camera made you know it was on.
You could tell the contestant wanted a hug.
I think Billy didn’t want that image out there. Especially after his role on Soap.
Billy crystal is a beast that's how you do it!!
Billy Crystal is amazing. What clues!
+djnotty01 He holds the record, 26 seconds (Billy Crystal).
I LOVE how towards the end Billy said "I can't keep that Promise" he obviously realized if he got back to the WC in the same episode, it would be with the other contestant.
I would have like to have seen play the $100,000 tournament before I can say that he was the greatest Pyramid player ever. The degree of the categories in 1982, 1983 were a lot different than it was say, 1988. I would have liked to see him handle the category, Things that are Enshrined - that Keif and Nathan Cook played. Just saying!
I came on for the same reason! Now I am looking at old 10000pyramid clips! Thanks billy!!
Billy, 2 bad this wasn't the $100k version! That was tournament-worthy, well done!
By the time *"The $100,000 Pyramid"* came around, Billy was an A-lister...
Wow....they're actually pretty good at this.
great show love it
Things that wander: A lost child
I thought the "rivers" and "streams" clues would confuse the contestant. "Lost children" was the perfect clue.
It was a good clue, but not the perfect clue. Th perfect clue would have been "nomads".
barberfanatic Yes, that would have been excellent--even better than lost children. (To me rivers and streams meander.)
Lava1964 "An unfocused mind" might be a good clue...
+Atlanta-ASMR-Fan Another one would be eyes.
lost children WAS the perfect clue after saying rivers & streams as it made the contestant think movement so with lost children they ONLY reference to how they move is wandering
The first 30 seconds, wicked!!!
NAILED IT!!
If I am not mistaken billy crystal holds the record on the $20,000 pryamid with 26 seconds
Hit this from the Leno Show with Billy Crystal...nice to see I am not the only one. :-)
"I could go for a mutton sandwich now..."
AMAZING ROUND!!!!
Whoa! That's so fast!
That contestant also won 25K on Password with Bert Convy. He must have been playing the game show circuit.
@landrykkb True. I think a new Pyramid is coming either next month or sometime after that.
I'm really surprised Billy Crystal hasn't been asked to be on the current incarnation of Pyramid as a celebrity player...
My SWEET Petzel!
Hmm....I don't watch Leno but I was going through as many Crystal clips as I could (looking for a laugh) and came across the Leno vid that brought me here, it's a vicious cylce haha.
Billy crystal the best ever!
Where's the rest of this??
Noticed the empty spaces on the bottom that could've fit four more answers. I heard they were to have ten answers, but said to be too difficult and long, so they sealed the bottom spaces before the redesign.
Very true! They covered it pretty much right before the very first show in the 70s. On "The $10,000 Pyramid" it's visible if you look for it.
I thought the space was so the contestant's head wont block the row of categories at the bottom from that camera angle 😁
Billy Crystal just referenced this on the Leno show...
great clues & Billy arguably the best clue giver but let's be honest at least 4 of those categories were gimmies couldn't have made it much easier
@landrykkb And he seemed to make an art form out of that.
@missypsj ... and you could see Crystal mouthing the word "twenty-six" when Dick made his slip up... Crystal did it in 26 seconds that first time, not 28 like Dick said. But Crystal was gracious enough to not show up the host by correcting him. Class guy, Billy Crystal. Love them both.
I think that was the same red sweater Billy wore when he collected his fastest time in 1977!
Same outfit LOL
exactly! I am glad somebody shares my views about game shows. Reality shows for me r basically the same thing. Just look at VH1. all their game shows r either about love or based off other people from reality shows they already had. That's why I dont watch deal or no deal anymore cuz once the million dollars was won the fun was taken out of it.
Tony Randall was a legendary player too
Tony Randall understood the essence of the game…
Wow he looks so young on here. Saw him on Jay Leno too.
There will also be one this New Year's Eve but they might only show the ones from LAST year.
GSN has brought back The Pyramid 2012. It debuts Sept 3.
...and THAT is how you do it.
Lost children. Awesome clue.
There is a clip of that from YT RandomManA under "Best WC Ever"
WEST!!!!! love leno
West Coast here. Jay Leno Show ha ha ha.
I totally agree. Just look at the new 20Q show on game show network. I hate how Cat Deely the host is always joking around with te voice of 20Q. I hate how game show hosts today waste lots of time talking with their guest hosts and thats why they always have to wait till next show to finish up or rush to get things done at the end of their shows.
Talk Billy into doing the Strahan version of Pyramid and show this or his record breaking clip (makes more sense since it was from ABC).
I have
Dick Cavett was great too.
@StukInBuf Not sure since CBS added The talk at 2 now which doesnt go with the flow of the network but whatever i guess.
@bigweezey WIll Billy Crystal be the host?
The music
@jksonny You're right.Dick Clark took his hosting duties on Pyramid very seriously because it's pretty much his nature as it is,but has the dry sense of humour as well.
Me too lol. Is this the one he meant?
If they had not have gotten hung up on "Things That Wander", Billy could have broke it!
Definitely had a chance.....but I'm okay with Billy taking a sec. to think of a good clue. Lots of time make sure he got the money. no need to rush,
Billy Crystal and Jack Klugman were the best male Pyramid players ever.
LENO!!!
Clark's wrong; Billy Crystal's record-setting time was 26 seconds, not 28.
Well of course everyone saw this from Leno, and he did it in 31 seconds or with 29 seconds left, I dont know where he got 26 seconds. LOL but still a good clip, love GSN!
Congratulations to Mike Wazowski.
Being a fan is one thing but the celebrities here have to win money for them. High-pressure. Makes it very real for what is usually so fake.
Well we will wait for the west coast to catch up on us and see how many comments come from them.
Leno fan, But that was not the record, he said there were 34 seconds left, that was 28 left.
@bigweezey Today's game shows bite the big one!!!Well, they're basically just called reality shows in this modern era.
Billy Crystal better hope that no one watches this in this day and age. He might get cancelled.
west coast. leno show!!
This is not the record breaking clip. The clip I saw is titled "Best WC Ever" and he does it in 26 seconds.
I'd like to see Billy Crystal make a mistake on this game... to see if he's really human. ;D
@Woohoo5241 He Dick Clark was only 2 seconds off and it could have been just a momentary lapse.I'm sure he realized that after he saw it aired.
I think barry jenner in the 1st 100000 tournament beat both this and his other time by doing it in 27 seconds
Another Leno viewer lol
@nextbarker Then again,WANDER is a very ambiguous term.
Dick made an error in that his record was 26 seconds, not 28.
THATS A RECORD
Why did Dick never tell the audience to NOT clap during the bonus round?
A real game show WTF!
I always wondered that too. They lose a couple seconds between each category because of the applause.
Leno
No.. look under best WC Ever by RandoManA
THINGS IN A BARN as a 5th subject....far too easy. That subject should only appear as the first subject....never as a 5th subject.
