I love how she gushes when she wins it all!!
"Oh, Patty, you *WONDERFUL PERSON,* you!!!"
Lolz!! :-P
Sensational win with amazing clues given by the late great beautiful Patty Duke !!!!!
What a great way to go out on a last Winner's Circle playing. Patty did a great job giving clues.
Dick Clark was an amazing host. Patty duke an amazing player.
Rest in peace Patty!!!
RIP to both! Both were fabulous.
You're so right. I wish they were both still with us!!
@@brentobrien4702 I wish shows like The Patty Duke Show was still on. I used to watch it on Nick At Night back in the 90s.
And one of the first things she said? "Thank you!" Class act, Ms. Barbara.
"Blamed" was the key word -- they should've given her the first one.
I was thinking the same thing I'm guessing they must've thought she said something else
No, I think they were considering the buzzer because Patty said things and it was part of the answer
Also, in the other clip of her winning, Dick Clark mentioned about her winning a furnace. Which means she won 4 Mystery 7 prizes! That is quite impressive!
I'm glad she did not get buzzed for the last catagory - Patty using the word "Things" could have gotten her buzzed.
Beautiful Patty Duke. What a fighter.
I think Patty was at her loveliest here. She looks wonderful.
@@skipeastport5529 Yes!
I enjoyed the clues Patty gave. Surprised she didn't get buzzed on the "Things you didn't do" for being too descriptive/off topic.
same here that was hard subject too how the lady got that was a shock
Not only that, Alan Alda got buzzed a year or so earlier for saying "things that" when it was in the clue, just like this one.
@@brianschaffer9220 Guessing that at some point between then and now, they decided "That one was probably okay, don't buzz that in the future."
See Levar Burton episode where he mentions "across," (subject is crossword puzzle) buzzed, but after discussion Dick announces decision reversed with no precedent & contestant wins $10,000.
I was thinking the same, but it's a close call. She did say something that you might get blamed for as a clue, so they let it go. If she left off "Things you," and just said "you didn't do that," she could of got buzzed too. Maybe a poor subject to use in the pyramid, but she still won.
Patty was an absolutely awesome game show player!
She definitely was one of the best on the pryamid games👍
Patty Duke!!?? Awesome work!
How many times did she have to say the word “blame” before they were going to give it to her? The card should have turned with 8 seconds left on the clock
You’re right that 99% of the time, all they needed was the key word, but this was a bit of an unusual category. I think the judges hesitated in crediting Barbara at first because “WHY you don’t want to blamed” isn’t really the category; “why” (i.e. the reason) you don’t want to be blamed for something (e.g. you didn’t do it, you’d be embarrassed, you’d get in trouble, etc.) isn’t the same as the “thing” you’re getting blamed FOR. However, when Barbara rephrased her answer as “WHAT you don’t want to take blame for,” this is technically “more correct” in this case, as the “what” now refers to a “thing.” Also in regard to “things,” they may also have hesitated due to Patty’s use of the word “things” in her clue when the category has the word “things” in it; it’s not the key word, so this was always kind of a grey area, and they usually let it slide. Ultimately in this case I think it was a valid clue and the correct call was eventually made. A nit-picky analysis, I know, but the acceptability of borderline clues/answers were always a nuanced subject of debate on the original Pyramid.
That was GREAT!! They have it to her!!
This was my favorite game show when I was a teenager!
Her total winnings tell an interesting story She went to the top of the $25,000 pyramid twice - the first time was with Anne Bloom. However, she managed to tie or beat her opponent the other 3 days without beating a $10,000 board.
Barbara's $59,000 record total would last until June 1988
@@ericalexander3246 I'm f*****' 💀💀💀💀
patty was a very good player at this
Watching this in memory of Patty Duke (Astin) but, that's possible gotta to be the only flaw in what I believe is the best end game format in game show history. Spoiler space...............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................it's when the contestant gives an answer that isn't complete according to the judges, and yet the audience in anticipation begins to cheer.
It also slows the contestant down a bit after each correct answer.
@@HunterWrangler That's probably on purpose. They're allowed to cheer because there's that brief time with the transfer to other categories. When there was audience in the recent Pyramid shows, they're allowed to applaud and cheer a little, but it's more subdued.
Late to the party, but I think we can let that one slide because otherwise if they weren't allowed to cheer, Patty would have been nodding like crazy.
I think what the judges wanted was "blamed for" as the key words in it, not just blamed in that regard, while one can argue blamed was the key word, but I'm assuming since they didn't give the win at that point, they needed blamed for which thankfully she got. In terms of what the audience did during that sequence, yes they did cheer when she initially said blamed and of course the audience as well as home viewers assumed it was enough for the win so they cheered but quickly stopped when they realized it wasn't quite a win.
Barbara Schnell later finished third on Jeopardy!, according to her website. Barbara has become a novelist in recent years. Kelly Grogan broke Schnell's record in the final week of CBS $25K PYramid in late June 1988, and broke it by a 7-11, winning $60,050 and M7 prizes.
I've never understood why the person/people who come up from the audience after a win almost never thank the celeb. In fact, they barely speak to her or him.
I agree. It's so rude.
If I were the "comer-up" from the audience, and somebody helped my mom, dad, (friend, GF, wife, etc...) win in excess of $58,000, they'd have to use the jaws of life to pry me off!! Lolol...
It’s because the celebrities, male or female, are so good looking, the player will get super jealous if the spouse gets too friendly.
Imagine your playing partner is Markie Post!
Rip patty
Best two playing this ever.
That was a great win.
Odd to see the judge so slow on the draw with the final subject. Even though she didn't phrase it the way it was on the card, she said the key word, twice, and still there was a delay.
RIP, Patty.
Patty....a very intelligent lady...so beautiful too!
i was so worried she was gonna get buzzed when she said “things” in the last subject
Holy shit, she was composed af
First winners who didn’t realize they won lol
@NYBredBamaFed They didn't buzz if you said "things" because it wasn't the essence of the answer. Half the boxes were "Things that X" so buzzing for "things" would be silly.
Also, "people who carry a club" is really tough. Either you'll get that right away from caveman and caddy, or never make the connection in a million years. I mean, who else carries a club?
TenPoundHammer a policeman comes to mind
Hercules would be another good clue.
A card dealer.
nope
See Jamie Farr argue the point with Dick Clark
Would these clues work?
"NOT The King of Spades."
"NOT The King of Diamonds.'
"NOT The King of Hearts."
I love some of barbaras responses
If Melody Wilson had said "Brag" on her 4th day she would have obliterated Barbara's mark. She finished with $57k (a 10k win on her last episode and another loss at the $25k mark).
SHe may have well been the only contestant two win $25K on two days in a row, and not too many won $25K twice on 80s Pyramid, no? Maybe she's the only one to do it.
Carries a club- golfer, police officer
Things you get blamed for- crimes, losing things, breaking the windows
Things you get blamed for - "Someone else's crime."
Amazing Win
As much as I revere the original iteration of "Pyramid", even back then, I always thought the judges were far too harsh as to what qualified as a correct answer. While the game shouldn't be an "easy giveaway", it shouldn't require such ridiculously precise answers that no one ever wins.
@almightvtora, I think they wanted a little more with BLAMED FOR, and not justr BLAMED
For club I blanked after golf player and police officer. Caveman was a great clue.
@NYBredBamaFed I just saw her entire run and she didn't actually win a furnace. The furnace was in reference to winning enough money to either repair or replace her current one.
Is "things you didn't do" an illegal clue?
Nope. The key word(s) weren't said by the clue giver. It's valid.
Yeah, illegal. They were being generous. Any other game/situation, they zap it.
They tend to be pretty generous about phrases without prepositions and non-key words. On a bad day, they might have buzzed it, but I think nine days out of ten, they'd let it slide.
I notice there was an uncomfortable pause...Like Patty was thinking oh crap I just blew it. They were all surprised when the winner music started!
Is it not phrased as a list(-Ed item)? As long as Patty is giving a list of words or phrases it’s valid. The only time they seem to let the clue giver vary from that is when the tile says “things a (x) would say”
"Things you didn't do" didn't get a DQ buzzer?
Was I supposed to get verklempt when she said, “We did it!” Because I did.
Celebrities on this show had to be sharp, and were playing for the contestants. Incredible format. This wasn't a normal game show.
Feathered hair..hope it never comes back
those “anything”/“anyone” clues are weird
Wait, was this patty or her identical cousin?
That's a very good question. It's hard to tell if it's Patty Lane, or her identical cousin Cathy Lane, although I think that Cathy Lane had sort of a British accent. 😊😊
that last clue hesitation??
$58,950
She said things on last clue
spadeless black picture cards
Too descriptive
1:10 things you didn’t do. She said thing you…. I would have buzzed her on that.
Patty Duke Was Hot! (RIP)
Patty almost got "buzzed" or could've gotten "buzzed," when she copied the 1st word off the card, on the 6th clue.
Daffy dAVID
I am shocked she wasn't buzzed for saying things you didn't do since things you was part of the amswer
"Things you" was not a critical part of the answer is why I think they didn't buzz. "Blamed" was what they were going for.
@@robertlalexander4083 They're referring to a previous instance where they got buzzed for saying "Things with static" on the subject "Things that cling."
that last clue on the last subject i would have buzzed that is incorrect. "things you didn't do" BUZZZ
Michael Hutchinson Yeah, I don’t understand that one at all. I don’t think I’ve even heard an answer said that way before. Seems illegal.
The reason that it was not buzzed, was because "Things that" is not the key word in the subject. The key word in the subject was "Blamed", which was why the clue was accepted as legal. Hope this straightens things out.
That rule only applies to Jamie Farr
I loved America at one time
