Laurie saying "a white bear" and avoiding the word "polar" which have given her a buzz, shows just what a brilliant player she is! She concentrated and paid attention and her clues were absolutely great!
That was BRILLIANT! She delivered those clues with this surgeon-like precision... It was almost as if she was trying to *verbally* defuse a ticking time bomb!! BRAVA, Lauri!! 🥂🥂🎉🎊🎈🔺️
She was so clever she said penguins...there in the south pole not north...lol
One of the clues I would have given for North pole would have been Santa Claus.
YES. It would've been so easy to accidentally say "polar bear" (which is the first animal I thought of!).
She almost DID-you could hear her picked up to say “polar” but she stopped herself and said “white bear”!
Lauri Hendler did fabulously well, giving those clues on Pyramid. But I believe that she also plays excellent in Super Password too.
Kenneth A Huang 10/12/22.
Whatever game show you put Lauri Hendler on, she excelled. I'm happy that a lot of that charm and intelligence has passed into her adulthood.
Would like to see her make a cameo on the current Strahan version, but they'd have to do it on a special "80s Stars" version, and I don't know who they would choose for her male antagonist (strongest bets are Jeremy Miller and Danny Pintauro, but neither played any version of the game).
Why not a “rematch” with her and Grant Goodeve?
Lauri was one of the best of the 80's era beauty and brains
A beautiful win from a great star and great contestant !!!!!
A beautiful marvelous win with terrific people from the great 1980s and never to ever be seen like this ever again Wow !!!!!
Thanks for posting! A great "Pyramid" memory!
Superb win, superb people and a wonderful time in the world that we Will Never Ever See Again Period!!!!!
If I had my druthers and could go back in time to be a contestant, i would have prayed for Lauri Hendler and Nathan Cook to be the celebrity players. A showdown between those two titans would have been EPIC
646guy I agree 1000%. If only that could've happened.
Mine would be Shelley Smith and Barry Jenner...
Don't forget Clifton Davis and Billy Crystal!!!!!
Shelley Smith is who I would hope for too
@@thenygalavant She was brilliant too and a beautiful woman!
I can’t believe Lauri was just 18 at that time. She did superbly well and gave out great clues.
I often wondered what the contestants that week when she was on-particularly the week of this episode-reacted when they found out she was only 18, and many contestants were old enough to be her parents!
I counted 5 distinct times Lauri hugs the contestant after the win! They just keep hugging, and hugging, and hugging!
Fabulous and really exciting win fun all the way around !!!!!
And Lauri was a whiz on Super Password as well.
Superb and exciting like the way things used to be !!!!!
There were about THREE trap categories that the producers put in this Winner's Circle: COLD WEATHER ANIMALS (NORTH POLE)" "TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS (TICKETS)" and "FISHING EQUIPMENT". You could easily say fishing pole for the second one and polar bear for the fourth category. Boy was Lauri smart in avoiding those potential traps!
For a moment I thought she’s get buzzed down for “penguins” but I remember there are some at the NORTH Pole…
@@2themoon863 Penguins was a good clue though.
A bad or wrong clue isn’t a violation. Just don’t go off the beam and say something like “Santa Claus” or “magnetic pull.”
Lauri was without a doubt one of THE sharpest at this game!
She REALLY was. She avoided the obvious trap on the $200 clue (that even ***I*** would have screwed up) by NOT saying "a polar bear" for "Cold Weather Animals (North Pole)". She specifically said "a WHITE bear". Really A+ work.
I screwed up too and immediately would have said Polar (BZZZZZZZ) Bear. Damn you Bob Stewart. I wish some of these celebs that are still well known would show up on the Strahan version. The gameplay at times now pales to the Clark versions.
What amazes me is that not only was she was 18 years old, this was her first appearance. (Dunno if this was her first W.C.)?
thisfirrre yes, it was
It was her first W.C. win, but she played it earlier in the week
Laurie Hendler was a total babe back then.
Laurie is smart and a cutie
A very fine lady and extremely smart!!!!!
Aside from the tournaments, I think she's the biggest winner under the $25,000 limit
Lauri made sure her partner was going to win $48,000.
She was on an episode of Threes Company.
Grant Goodeve was awfully handsome.
At 18 Lauri was already an outstanding player.
I Would Have Loved To See Nell Carter On The $25,000 Pyramid.
@@christopherslappey1681 me too! I saw her on one of those short-lived versions of Match Game in the ‘90s but she would have been hilarious on Pyramid
The contestant is very sharp too!
Great win. Too bad GSN is jumping to May 6, 1985 tomorrow.
November 8, 1983-May 3, 1985 and April 23-October 16, 1987 remain untouched by GSN. That's 485 episodes, which is A LOT! I don't even know if those 485 episodes have already been converted to digital. If they haven't, then GSN/Sony are so far behind.
Vahan Nisanian yep, saw the episode today GSN jumped to 1985
Michael J Fox was superb and very handsome talented and healthy deserving win all the way !!!!!
There are no penguins at the North Pole. LOL
She knew that, but was desperate for clues. There aren’t many that live at that latitude
The producers set that trap on purpose with "Cold Weather Animals (North Pole)". Someone in panic mode would have easily said Polar Bear and got buzzed.
Not only that, FISHING EQUIPMENT, TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS (TICKETS), AND REGISTERED were also potential traps for the wrong cluegiver as well! You could easily say Fishing pole, fishing bait for FISHING EQUIPMENT and get zapped, and for the last one you had to avoid saying car registration for Things that are REGISTERED. There were a total of FOUR traps in this winner's circle! Lauri was very sharp with her clues and the contestant was sharp as well! She deserved every penny of the $48K she won.
This lady should have been in the $100,000 tournament.
That didn't debut until 1985.

Was that a winnings record for the time?
There was Colleen Messina and Tony Reitano on "The $50,000 Pyramid", and Monica Young in November 1982 on this version with $46,550.
I'm not counting tournaments. I'm counting in regular play.
Oh, the '80s fashion. Oy.
Right, as long as she said REGISTER, it's fine.
I'm glad she said "A white bear" "Polar bear" might have been a disqualification. (North POLE, POlar).
That category was placed there to throw any normal celebrity off. Lauri really paid attention. Yeah if you said POLAR bear, (BUZZ!) FISHING EQUIPMENT/TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS (TICKETS) were also traps for the wrong cluegiver too. And I realized Things that are REGISTERED was also very hard. You could easily say car registration.
I wonder if "drawered cash" would be okay for the last one.
"Drawered" is a huge risk. I would say no because there is no verb usage for drawer.
@@richardhernandez4490 It’s an adjective, not a verb, in that sense
I remember once for something like, “Things that are supported,” a female celebrity said, “a bra’ed…,” realized that wasn’t clear, and said, “a brassiere’ed breast.” Didn’t get buzzed. Not sure if it was legit, or the judge just decided it was too coy to disallow Parrish
Is she the biggest winner before CBS raised the limit?
No penguins in the north pole..lol
Wrong clues are not illegal. “Santa Claus,” on the other hand, but I’ve gotten a big buzz.
‘Sex offender” would now be a great clue for the top category.
So would AK-47. The world is a different place
Depends on the State.
Why wasn't thee an Oral Category on the board? (What _______________ might say)
This is one of those rare times that they decided to put a "ticking time bomb" board up.
She was so lucky she said "white bear" instead of "polar bear".
She saw the trap instantly because POLAR is VERY close to POLE on the card and that was gonna be an automatic zap by the judge. Apparently that whole Winner's Circle was a ticking time bomb because I realized there were FOUR trap categories...you could say fishing pole or fishing bait for FISHING EQUIPMENT and you could easily say car registration for Things that are REGISTERED. Nipsey also had REGISTERED on one of his boards and he really had to stop on one of his clues because he almost said automobile registration.
Is this Lauri's first pyramid appearance?
Yes it is, though she didn't play again until the week of April 8-12, 1985. At that point, Mari Nicotera started her run, and went on to become the biggest winner thus far with $50,050.
@@VahanNisanian So Lauri wasn't on "Pyramid" at all during 1984?
@@jmiller297 No.
Lauri hendler facts of life rings a bell in my head
*"Gimme A Break!!"*
Lauri Handler turns double nickel today, 55, happy Earth/birth Day!
April 22, 2020
"tackle" is simply fishing equipment
I had to scroll a long way to see if anyone else caught this. Right you are-it should have been buzzed
I just realized there was a FOURTH trap category in that one: Things that are REGISTERED. The wrong cluegiver might say car registration.
Hmmm. Didn't she say "Things that you register" and the answer is "Things that are registered." So that's allowed?
I'd say so, because "you" as an impersonal pronoun ( "one") and the impersonal passive are basically the same
The essence of the answer is "register".
Santas house ....
Fir thus fame, I was distracted by Laurie's beauty!
The Beatles have the most copies of the album's sold on Earth with 1 billion+ copies!!
That includes digital downloads!!
A WHITE BEAR?, Lauri could've said POLAR BEAR, couldn't she?, or was she afraid of POLE
Dan Barker I believe that polar is synonymous with artic/cold
POLAR would have sounded too close to POLE, which was on the card.
i think i would have asked the judge afterwards if they would have accepted it....but great job for lauri going around a potential trap....young talented and smart individual
It was bad for them to put North Pole on the card. Had they not, then polar bear would be an obvious clue. Actually penguins are in the South Pole, not North Pole, but she got it anyway.
One only needs to look at the Winner's Circle from June 1973 episode of the $10,000 Pyramid, which originally aired on CBS. Controversy might have happened. :)

Most 18 year old celebrities wouldn't pull this off then or now. She might be the youngest celebrity to win a winner's circle with adult contestants, no?
You also got Philip McKeon as well. He was 18 at the time of this taping.
