I absolutely love this clip, even 38 years later. Constance McCashin shows her wonderfully positive and unselfish personality and is even more excited than the winning contestant. She truly cares about making a difference for someone other than herself, and that's the ultimate sign of a healthy perspective and well adjusted woman who cares about others. BRAVO! Constance... 38 years later. We miss you... Thursday nights @ 10pm haven't been the same without you. And you were even more brilliant to know when to walk away from all of the Hollywood bull-shit.
Cried my eyes out when they killed off Laura on Knots Landing. She was one of the most complex characters. Constance played her beautifully. I miss Thursdays and Fridays CBS 80s.
Every celebrity on the show wanted to win for their fans that's why it was so different from other game shows and what made it a great show. They weren't acting or in character or on a talk show but forced to play the game as a regular person would.
She gave up acting to study psychology, later taught psych classes at Brandeis U. and she's now a professional psychotherapist in New England! She doesn't tell her students or her clients that she used to be an actress although a lot of them eventually find that out anyway.
@@ekrewer - I had no idea! That's so interesting. Thank you for the info! :)
Full marks to Constance. That guy was giving clues like he was on a walk in the park.
Smart, intuitive lady. Well done Constance!
Smart and intuitive? Hmm, not quite the words I’d use after he spent 15 seconds listing things in the desert and she couldn’t get there
Dear Lord. Listen to the last two clues. She literally figured them out with just one word given in the clues.
@@pam0626 LOL have a cow, why don’t you? 😂
@@drewconway7135 Trolls aren’t worth my time.
@@pam0626 Then why do you post?
Gotta love people whining about his clues... yet he did what a number of people giving "great clues" didn't do, and that's get to the top. Doesn't matter how, just that you get all six within the time.
I mean, the desert clues legit weren't that great. The rest were fine.
@@SamtheBravesFan On the top box, if he's just added "corn dog"... she would have gotten it right off.
Constance McCashin was SO good on this show...one sharp woman!! She also did several guest appearances on Says You on NPR and was excellent there, as well. Miss her!
That was a miracle, terrible clue giver.
I agree..wtf were the desert clues all about?
@@nibsvkh I was think A Cactus, A Oasis....but yeah those clues were not the best
She was brilliant to get the right answers from those clues!
He was no Keefe Ferandini
She got it a SPLIT second BEFORE the buzzer buzzed!!
Nicely down with the contestant giving the clues and quite exciting as well !!!!!
I like the Desk Bell sound effect, like they used in the original Pyramids
RIGHT ON THE BUZZER!!!! WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, it's easy at home to come up with clues, tougher playing for real
Which is why it's better for the contestant to receive the clues from someone who has played the game many times.
That was as close as you can get. "Things on a st-buuuuzz-ick."
"SAND! SAND! SAAAAAAAAAANNNND!!!!!!!" they all yelled at the screen.
Now this is an amazing win...and the slowest win I've seen on this show.
You are absolutely correct ...that this win is the slowest win on record. 30 seconds to get the first 3 subjects...30 seconds to get the last three subjects.😮😮
Sand, camels, pyramids mirages!
SHE GOT IT!!
She was seeing reflection in his glasses!
Original Airdate: September 22, 1982
Well, good guesser and terrible clue giver!
JW3HH
I agree he is AWFUL!!!! Its a miracle she won.
You mean that he won? Contestant's giving.
JustWasted3HoursHere
No kidding. “Cactus” would have been the first clue out of my mouth. “Sand dunes” after that.
This is an early CBS show - they’re still using the bell from the old ABC version.
This must have been super early in The New $25,000 Pyramid's run, because they are still using the old 1973-81 bell, and the chyron flashing $10,000 is still the 1970s Helvetica font instead of the later Roman serif font used for most of the run.
It was in the early run: the third episode of this series. And needless to say, Costance and her partner STUCK it out to the last second for the first $10k winner in the "New" $25K Pyramid.
September 22, 1982 is the OAD.
Also, blue-lit trilons. It's funny to imagine that they probably had some sort of actual meeting to discuss updating those elements..
I think this episode was either late 1982 or early 1983.😊
She said the key word (Stick) before the buzzer sounded. Good call by the judge.
The contestant gave the clues and was fumbling, but atleast he won. I've seen celebrities be the clue giver and screw contestant out of winning. He is not used to being under pressured circumstances. Celebrities are and they still screw up. I'd rather be a clue giver and my loss was on me instead of my already overpaid rich celebrity partner giving me illegal clues.
It's easier to receive than to give, which is why you saw it so much more often. Remember that you have to convey the answer to your partner, and there are many more things you can do than just say the words, such as vocal inflections and facial expressions, which the acting celebrities have a lot of experience with doing. Mistakes can happen, and remember that these celebrities want to win just as much as you do. It's the whole "thrill of victory" thing.
The contestants should always be the clue givers in the Winners Circle as they are now in the Michael Strayhan Pyramid. But back in the day, some celebrities didn't know how to play the game. So they screwed it up for there parners the contestants.
Is this Dusty from PYL Oct '85?
The closest one I've seen.
By a whisker!
This was also used when they started injecting winning montages into the intro
They violate the "only give a list" rule every time the subject is "what _____ would say". Why aren't they buzzed?
That took way too long to get desert.
He didn't mention the obvious clue: sand
sand
@@Lava1964 camel
@@Lava1964 He's under a lot pressure and having to listen to that dumb timer. It can be hard.
Al Cd
Do the contestants hear the clock or is it just the tv viewing audience?
The first subject's best clues would be sand, cactus, an oasis, etc. Snakes and lizards?
Did GSN restart $25,000 Pyramid from 1982, I thought they were up to September 1983.
Dan Barker look like they did
They have jumped ahead to May 1985.
Rhat was amazing, for REal.
smart lady.
Contestant never been to a desert before??? 🌵🌵🌵
wow. she's good.
I don't have GSN, happily, I have Buzzr, so that's whyI ask.
Buzzr does not show ANY form.of PYRAMID at all. What a shame.
What happened to the 1983-1984-1985, they never been replayed since USA.
Gregory Pearsoll says he heard rumors that October 1983-April 1985 is damaged beyond repair. But I'm doubtful of these rumors, because clips from October 1983 were shown in a GSN promo in 2002.
They recently began a new rotation that started with July 1983, hinting they may well go into 1984.
Which has now been unproven as GSN has finally aired beyond September 1983.
If u look at it closely shes reading his glasses thats why if u ever see Betty white play she takes her glasses off.
Betty takes her glasses off because she's farsighted. I take my glasses off to eat and read books because I'm nearsighted.
I am very surprised he was buzzed on dried up lakes. Was thinking that was a descriptive statement which is not allowed normally
I don't see why it wouldn't be fine; a lake and a dry lake are two completely different things today, even if they may have been the same many years ago.
Adjectives were allowed.
Prepositional phrases caused problems, but even those were allowed in some cases.
He was NOT buzzed on DRIED UP LAKES...not descriptive...still in the form of a list. If he had said DRIED UP LAKES WITH NO WATER...then he would have been buzzed.
He played this as bad as this could be played and still won it... he spent way too long on the first one
very unusual the contestant giving the clues, though nothing it the rules against that
He does not need to be giving no clues! For the desert category he should have said "an oasis". That along with "sand" and she would have gotten it. For things on a stick, in addition to popsicles he should have said a "corn dog".
Things you suck ... things on a stick!
SAND!!!!!!!!!!!
What are you guys all talking about? He was actually giving great clues!
Knots Landing was never the same after Constance McCashin left the show...and not by her own accord. One of the worst decisions the producers ever made.
His clue giving was not very good.
Terrible clues. The only reason he won was because of her
RIGH!
She did all the work. The celebrity was slow and and not very resourceful.
The male giving the clues was the contestant. The celebrity was the female, Constance McCashin.
