Nice video. I picked up a barebones 800 G3 for $20 and used an i5 6500 CPU I already had in my box of spares and 2 x 8GB sticks I already had and a 256GB M.2 I already had. Surprisingly an old 90W HP laptop AC adapter I had also worked. Working on my Batocera image now. I might upgrade to a 7700 or 7700t later since I've seen those as low as $35, I think the extra threads may help with the more modern emulators.
I have an i7700 and it runs pretty much all ps2 at 3 x res , wii at 2 x res, runs most wii u games , dreamcast naomi atomiswave etc all at 2 x res easily, psp at 720p ... obviously theres the odd game that wont run here and there and odd game that struggles...like outrun 2.. runs perfect at 720p on ps3 and PSP but the ps2 version is a nightmare and will only run for me in native resolution.... its a great cpu for emulation and can be had fairly cheap.
Ordered one of theses yesterday, mine should have 16GB of ram and a 512GB SSD, I watched a few videos about this and it seems to be perfectly balanced, I wanted to play old XBOX games but if it can't do it nicely, I will survive, I can play those on my current PC, that minipc will be something I travel with to relative houses and have a blast during evenings of retro gaming.
I am going to upgrade mine I won on eBay to an i7-6700 with 32GB RAM. I will let you know how it runs. Supposed to get basic system later today but I need to buy power adapter first. GRR
gracias for the content, could you do a speed test for loading with usb sata to internal sata and nvme, i have a few old machines and am wondering if load times would be faster from nvme vs sata to see if i can speed up an old pc
Are the 8 gb ram on dual Channel? If it is a single dimm I would strongly suggest to Add another 8 gb ddr4 or replace with 2 x 4 gb. It will increase 10% cpu and near 20% gpu. From tech dad 2 tech dad keep up the good work!!
Yes it can. I have one with a i7-6700T and dual ram. I can play basic 2d switch games and some 2.5d like captain toad at full speed. You can also play ps3 games. Sf4 runs perfectly on it as well as non graphic intended games. Works really well
Are you sure this mini pc has a 6500t? I bought an optiplex off eBay not realizing that I was not buying the best option, and from multiple searches online is seems that a 6500t should struggle with anything over ps1 games. Your video has given me hope at some ps2 emulation on my new optiplex. Thanks for checking I appreciate it
So I am new subscriber to your channel and I really been enjoying your videos. I have been a longtime emulator enthusiast. Mainly on Windows PC's. In fact I still have a small bartop running a DOS mame setup from 2003. I have a question about this Batocera thing. Is it a derivative of Linux? How does it know and or install the correct audio and the video drivers? Is it just using generic drivers? Doesn't that limit on what you can do video wise for settings and such? I know one of the main obstacles for using old PC's for emulation (for me anyways) is getting drivers to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
That’s really impressive for the HD520/530 onboard graphics and age of the hardware especially considering the price! Any chance of getting a clone of that hard drive somewhere as an upload?😂 I
Late reply. I think the 705 G4 has a separate GPU which has its benefits - it's not a powerful GPU, but it's something. Definitely more powerful than this G2.
What's a good gpu to pair with a SFF Dell Optiplex 3050? Its basically the same size as this pc shown here, but the psu is 180w. I was thinking about a 1050 or 1050ti since theyre 75w. Would a 75w gpu be totally okay, or would i be better off with something like a 1030?
i have a HP mini pc g3 with an i7 in it...all works great apart from no model2 games will boot at all....model3 works but for some odd reason model2 roms just won't work....anyone any ideas?
When you ran any model 2 game at the time did you have an active internet connection? You need too apparently as it needs to download additional files or something. You only need to do it once, on any game will do. After that you dont need to be connected to the internet Having said that its sometimes hit or miss for me as well. For eg I switch over and flash a new hdd and it wont work Or Id use Batocera on a diff brand PC and it wont either. Can be frustrating. But try the active internet connection anyway, worth a shot.
@@fonzitheman hi.. yea,I am connected to the internet all the time... still cant get any model 2 games to run ... they attempt to run but just crash... its annoying as I run model3, wii ,wii u, ps3 etc etc but model2 just wont work... will take it into my friendly computer shop where they have fixed a few batocera issues for me before ...
dude what is up with all of these reviewers insisting on specifically playtesting fighting games and racing games...Please do a playtest of some 3d platformers like ratchet and clank, jak and daxter, scaler etc. Reason being, a lot of people will pick this up thinking that this machine will kill it on PS2, then have big frame dips and slowdowns when playing cpu intensive games.
These are terrific. I have one in my vertical arcade. Super impressed!

Dual Channel RAM can give a 10-40% fps boost. Lowering resolution to 540p or even 360p then using fidelity fx scaling can help on heavier stuff too.
Good review, appreciate it... I'd have liked to hear what resolution you were running each system at.
Great video 👍 how does this compare to the Nvidia shield for retro gaming? 👍
I had a Shield years ago but not anymore so I can’t do a direct comparison. I think emulation on a PC would be easier to set up.
Wow amazing is there any chance of getting my hands on your image your using please?
Im having trouble getting audio. I gave a display to hdmi adapter and also tried a display port to hdmi cable and no luck.

that is the display output resolution and has no effect on performance.
wiiu is to much for the igpu btw.
Yeah, a lot of people will mix the display resolution and rendering resolution up, thinking they are upscaling when they arent.
i have a zotac en1070 with 7500t . ill be upgrading it to a 7700 t and it should absolutely rock for just about any game

It was single channel. I recently added an addition 8 gb to make it dual and tried playing fortnite on it in my latest video.
Nice! Here in my country its double the price lol, btw can it play switch games?

All emulators except xbox360 run better on batocera Linux compared to windows
Will indie gaming be great on this?
Great little project. Is the batocera image you used available for dl by any chance?
Thanks. Sorry it’s not.

Yes, Batocera is a Linux derivative.
If there is no other Hard Drive inside, does it boot straight to Batocera?
Yeah it should
Is this one support PS3 and switch games ??

Might be a silly question but can it do switch?
No
How did you pay so little for it? On eBay?
Yep. From eBay. But it didn’t come with a hard drive.

Get the EliteDesk 705 it has a AMD Ryzen 5 pro, xbox is playable but doa3 is a problematic game on its own to emulate
