    Thank you for explaining this so well for us Olds, and for showing actual gameplay. I am looking into a mini PC for space reasons. I mostly play indie games on my SteamDeck and Switch, and more demanding games on my PS5, so I don't need anything crazy. But I want to be able to pick up an AAA title here and there to play online with my friends again.
    I just turned 40 last week, and suddenly, computer jargon makes no sense to me (I never thought it would happen to me, but technology betrays us all in the end). This is the first video on mini PCs that actually gave me enough *comprehensible* info to make a decision.

    Beelink SER5 5800H is my main Mini-PC. It caps out on 55W, but you can cut it at 45W. Playing Retro Games is enough for me (RAZE, GZDOOM, Force Engine). It's the perfect Mid-Range Machine.

    My son gave me what would be the equivalent of the M5, but from Beelink, for christmas. Specs are identical. I installed Fedora Linux on it, and it's been my daily driver ever since. It's shockingly capable at most things. It performs pretty much on par with my Steam Deck in most games. I wouldn't go trying to play competitive counter strike on it or anything, but for slower paced or single player games its solid and doesn't need a nuclear reactor to power it like my main gaming machine does.

    I wouldn't pay more than $400 for a mini pc. As such, I can currently get a barebones um780 by minisforum for $330 or so and just transfer my ram and storage from my beelink ser4 mini... I barely play games on pc's anyway so not being able to boost framerates past 100 is not a deal breaker...
    I'm an old cat that was used to seeing frames drop to their teens because of limited pixel count on the nes back in the day and enjoyed every minute since it made hard games easier to play. 😄...
    I know kids today are spoiled and refuse to play anything below 60 frames. They don't know how good they got it these days. 😄

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah. If you're looking for pure bang-for-the-buck it would be very hard to build a desktop PC that will outperform a Mini PC for the price. But obviously with a desktop PC you get the upgradability and you're able to bring some components along to future builds.

    • @andrewvickers4487
      @andrewvickers4487 8 месяцев назад

      @@TechDweeb Thanks. I could be wrong but it just doesn't seem like there's a lot of money to be saved with the desktop route even if we look ahead 10+ years. I suppose a lot depends on how much upgrading you want to do. Hmm...

    How would something like the Crash and Spyro remakes or Another Crab's Treasure run on each? Mostly because they're not what people think of as "Modern AAA" but thats the architecture they were made around.

    Will the 140 dollar one work for me to stream with obs? I play my games on console but my laptop is a Dino and not strong enough to run obs and TikTok like studio without the CPU usage getting full. Will the 140 option work for me or do I need one of the higher models? Would appreciate a response anyone really. Thanks in advance :)

      Brooo, that's what I am planning to do as well! Mini PC with the VITURE PRO. What has your experience been with this setup? I am also curious why you didn't and go for a laptop instead?
      The main reason why I am looking for miniPCs is portability, basically, but then I also have to get a keyboard, and I can only work with them if I have power. I haven't made up my mind yet. I hope I can learn something through your experience.

    How do these minipcs stack up against something like a steam deck?

    • @TechDweeb

      The 5800u is a bit weaker than the Steam Deck (but in the same ballpark). The high end offering here is a lot better than the Deck.

    I been thinking about getting a Steam Deck but I would never use it as a handheld because i have a Nintendo switch and it's mostly been setting in it dock since I've had it. I was wanting something with more horsepower that the Switch has problems with when I'm trying to play something like Minecraft.

    Of all the mini PCs you've reviewed which do you think would be best to pair with that 12tb emulation drive you reviewed?

    • @kylespevak6781
      @kylespevak6781 9 месяцев назад

      That 12tb emulation drive was part of a mini PC set up. Theoretically, it would just have all the games in files that you could extract and use wherever. They may not be named accurately though

      @kylespevak6781 I have the drive it has to be hooked into a windows machine. I'm only really worried about up to ps3 level for emulation purposes with ps2 tier being a must (but ill take the best i can get in that form factor). I know he reviewed one a week or so ago he said was great and the highest tier one in this video as well, but I'm curious which he thinks would be best.

      @@tigrewulph PS2 is super easy to emulate. My old phone (Pixel 3A) could run it decent. PS3/360/Switch I have little experience with. Wii U and 3DS are fairly easy to emulate as well

    • @tigrewulph
      @tigrewulph 9 месяцев назад

      @kylespevak6781 yes I'm aware, I specifically want to know which of the mini pcs he has reviewed that he thinks would work best with that drive. I've been emulating off and on for 20 years now, back to Super Mario on my TI-83 when I was in high school. Being a moderate old-fart at this point I liked the plug-and-play ability of the ready-to-go drive and it works great on my desktop... but I want to hook it to my main TV in the living room for couch retro time with the progeny, so I want to use the mini pc form factor.

    What's the most cost effective way for me to emulate 360, PS3 and play Elden Ring? I don't know a thing about putting my own PC together.
