I’m getting excited to learn more about gaming computers at 54yrs old. Thanks Retro Guy
Glad to hear it! Happy to help!
Picked up one of these with a ryzen 5 2400ge recently for 75$. Love these mini PCs, incredible value. Your previous batocera vids helped a lot. Thank you!
Yeah they're a great option for sure! Thanks I'm glad to hear that!
I just got the Ryzen 2400G version of this and put a 2Tb m.2 in it and some more RAM. They also sell an HDMI flex io card so you can replace the port in the middle on the back. Mine had a USB-C port there but now it’s HDMI. Cost about £12 (UK) to give it built in HDMI instead of an external adapter. Enjoyed your videos.
Did you notice improved performance or more fps compared to this intel i5 ?
I'd be interested to know also @iandowwright whether you experienced a better GPU performance on the Ryzen version.
I too want to know the same plz
“Mine had a USB-C port”….
Man, I’m looking for five more USB-C expansion cards for these EliteDesk G3/G4…. Too bad you’re in UK….
So, for us tech dummies....a few questions.
Why did you choose that particular Mini-PC?
Why did you choose that particular build of games?
What is Botacera? Is it just a package you downloaded and has all the games and OS to play them?
Why did you not use all 4 rollers for your new SSD?
Did you have to tell the computer that you have a different SSD, or does it integrate automatically?
Would buying an HP with more RAM or faster processor help playing some of those X-Box or PS2 games you said ran pretty slow?
I have one of these and its a very capable emulation device and perfect for an arcade cabinet. Plays up to and including Gamecube and PS2
Do PS2 and GC run at fullHD, 60fps-ish? With batocera?
If you want a handheld experience, get a Snapdragon 865 equipped smartphone (or upwards) and a Razer Kishi. Also emulates up to PS2.
I want mini PC where you can plug SSD drives at top as you plug cartridges on NES!
Dude… you have the best tutorials! Gonna try this out when I get this mini pc. Thanks!
Thanks! Beat of luck. I think you'll love the setup it creates
My current setup my first pc, every console in a pc the size of a wii man its awesome
I bought a Lenovo Thinkcentre Tiny with Ryzen 5 2400 GE and 16 gb ram and 256 gb M.2 NVME for just under $100. I added a Retrofighter Defender controller and installed Batocera on the M.2. It runs like a beast.
can run ps3?
@@littergamerhave not set it up to try.
What games system does it run as a beast?
Thanks for the demo and info, have a great day
Saves me a ton of time. I do have a few of these mini pc and already turning one into 2tb Batocer retro gaming. Thanks
Where do I find this botasarah hard drive with all the games on it?
What is batocer?
Thats all well and good but you didnt show us how to set it up i know you cant show to to get the roms but how to put them in the program and how to get the program would have been appreciated considering the videos called let's turn this PC into a gaming console. Thought showing too much might get you in trouble i guess but more help with the stuff for less tech savvy people would be nice
Just watched your g2 video and now this for the g3 👍 which is the better of the 2 for retro gaming?
I was going to buy the g2 until i watched this??
Great videos 👍👍
Great review, I decided to buy 2 of these one for this purpose and the other for my atgames pinball cab
Nice! I just got the same PC but 16 ram and 1TB. I installed RetroBat on an external HDD. Works wonderfully as well.
Awesome!
So how does Wii U work? Like emulating a DS, where you switch screens with a button?
I also like the idea of building an arcade cabinet with one of these.❤
Depends on the game. Most lets you select if you're playing on the gamepad or tv screen. You can switch between screens with hot keys. Some games require some novel use of the gamepad and motion controls and makes it almost impossible to play. but 90% of games are playable on cemu emulator.
@@claudiodiaz9752well said!
Where did you get the batocera image from ?
I need
I am having issues with my HP Elitedesk 705 g4 ryzen 5 pro 2400g displayport settings:
When using VGA output to a computer monitor it produces 1920x1080, looks great. Now when I use a displayport to hdmi dongle, hdmi into tv it only produces 480 (640x480) results. Then I tested the dongle by going displayport to hdmi dongle to hdmi to vga dongle to vga into the computer monitor I get great 1920x1080 results. If I unplug that dongle setup while the mini pc running and then go displayport to hdmi dongle to hdmi cable into the tv it forces 1080p and the results look great. But....... If I restart the mini pc it then goes back to 480 on the TV. I know it's not the displayport dongle and I shouldn't have to plug the dongle into the computer monitor and unplug to plug it into the TV every time. Anyone with a HP Elitedesk 705 want to chime in. I know this is a thing with these displayports.
Wassup, RGG! Wassup, everyone! I officially retired my Raspberry Pi after building my mini-PC retro setup (I have a Dell instead of an HP).
which Dell?
@@yungpdot1000 Optiplex 5050 Micro, with an i7-7700T CPU, 32gb of memory, and a dual drive setup (an M.2 NVME for my Windows boot drive and a Kingston 1TB SSD for my Barocera build).
That machine has only one Ram module installed. If you connect another module you can increase performance with Dual Channel.
by how much? Have you tested this? I would think it varies, but generally yes, this is an accepted truth.
@@neolancer 12GB isn't dual channel last time I checked. 4GB+8GB? How's that work as dual channel? I would think they would need to be the same.
@@SeeJayPlayGames You are right on that.
there are replacement modules for this. where the vga port is, you can get display port, mini display, usb, and hdmi to put in there.
Some guide or link please?
Instead of pushing esc. if that doesn't work sometimes it's the Delete button.
Great review you got yourself a subscriber 👍
Thanks!
What all the details on the game list, is there a specific collection or are these just games you collected individually?
The Nacon Rig has been a controller I like as well.
This Is Awesome Dude I Need That
In case it helps anyone, in addition to disabling Secure Boot I had to disable HP Recovery for it to detect the USB drive I was using to install into an internal SSD. I also had fast boot disabled by then, although I am not sure if disabling that one was necessary.
Hey man thanks for posting this. I bought this same PC to 'upgrade' my vitual pinball cabinet only to find it didn't have enough power to do what I needed (dual monitor seems to be too much). By chance and a great YT suggestion your video popped up at just the right time!
I got this installed and working with my xbox 360 and wii controllers without much effort. This is not my first emu project as I built a 3/4 scale Donkey Kong cabinet that runs Emulation Station on a rpi3. Seems like things have come a long way since then and I'm excited to strap this little pc to my tv to share some old games with my kids. By the way, you're absolutely right that Dreamcast Virtua Tennis is one fine game!
All the best to you!
Hyperkin X91 is a great Controller. I also see 8Bitdo just came out with a very SEGA Saturn looking X BOX/Windows Controller that I may pick up.
In regards to the SSD with Batocera, where did you purchase that?
picked up this unit with a Ryzen 2200g , 8gb and no hdd for $50 cdn recently...was going to do batocera + Flatpak Firefox (RUclips/streaming) or RUclips Kodi...but want to see your take on this
oh that's a nice deal
The spec of this sounds similar to a 2014 Mac mini I'm in possession of and this vid has me thinking it might be my new Batocera console soon!
Wat is batocera?
do you have a link for the 4tb batocera img file?
thank you so much, i think the g2 also has the same CPU
Next step conect it to an old Crt Tv. I'm interested in amd ryzen 5 with Vega Apu but not sure if RGBuntu runs on it to get native resolutions maybe a older machine is neccesary ?
Did your G3 come with the two PCIe slots on the Motherboard under the sata caddy and if so,running the OS from a PCIe SSD might solve the Switch load time problems you mentioned.
Just bought mine today coming Thursday wish me luck
Do you have a video of the steps I would need to take the ssd that came with this & install the setup on your ssd?
How do you get your video to look so good? I bought this exact machine and it's all pixelated...
I Connect That To My Flat Screen TV Samsung Or LG But The Games On This Mini PC Starts To Lag But The Games Play Smoothly On Portable TV Monitors
I love Ned For Speed! as the vid spells it!
sorry for the "did you get punched in the face" comment from the last vid.. i have a birthmark that if i didnt wear a cap would get allot of unwanted attention.. so my bad bud..
All good! I've got to coke up with a more exciting story lmao
hi from the UK thanks so much for this video....ive just got my daughter an anbernic for portable gaming as she is just getting into retro gaming and i want to build her a unit for her at home Retro gaming unit to play at home this will be great however i am looking at modding a hp touchsmart 520 all in one pc as a complete unit i got mine for £30 UK or around $40 US im keen to do this as it has beats audio built in
Do you think this would work with one of the x-arcade tanksticks? If so that could make an amazing home arcade setup
i actually order the hp elite desk g2 the first one you reviewed a few weeks back and got sent a g3 instead XD mine however sadly is giving me freezing issues. so i guess imma have to tear it apart and see if its something internal XD but i have high hopes for this and im actually glad i got it. just need to get it working so i can play some
I know this is an older video, but I wonder if the i7 with 32 gigs of RAM will be a major performance improvement over the one that he is demoing right now with 16 gigs of RAM and an i5. Is it worth spending the extra $80 or $90?
if you are looking 7th gen, get a non-mini version with 7600 non-t cpu. non-t is like 25% more powerful, though they use about twice as much power. bigger case also would allow a low end gpu that would be way more powerful than the hd630.
Not planning on using batocera as I want to use this oc for some editing and vector design and stuff like that, but would you suggest adding a 2gb VRAM? Would it improve gaming Performance at all? I'm aiming for PS3 emulation but idk if that's too ambitious or even possible
Why not do dual boot with windows and batocera
I think it will but it's the OpenGL or Vulkan version of the gpu that should be more prioritized.
I found all my Ps2 games ran flawlessly on my HP G3 600 mini. Mine has the Intel 630 chip tho
Thanks for this, I'm up & running with a decent 1TB image & it's damn near flawless. I went with the mini HP 705 with a Ryzen 5 2400G. Question do you know if i can run ps3/xbox at a playable rate?
Awesome! Glad to hear it. Xbox some games yes but ps3 no.
Dope, could you point me in the direction of pre-biild collections?
This is a great video it’s part of what I need next qst for me is how do I go about getting n setting up a ssd like this?? Yes I’m a complete noob
I just picked one of these up and there is no blue tooth. what is your recommended wired controller for this bad boy. thanks for a great video!
8bitdo ultimate C 2.4ghz wireless
Your 4tb retro gaming HD looks very good. Are you selling those? I want one.
he's not even answering questions
I picked this PC up on a great sale. Should I upgrade the 8gig ram to 16 or higher?
Great vid! Question: is it possible to map 2 player arcade joysticks and buttons to this type of system running Batocera? Cheers
So technically you could take this mini pc and put it in a Arcade 1up Street Fighter 2 game and have a great gaming experience right? :)
Can u put a low profile graphics card in this mini pc?
Which controller are you using to play each system?
My question is…
Why didn’t you use an NVMe drive for faster disk I/O?
(Leave the slower SATA for mass storage)
Why didn’t you use two RAM sticks for faster dual-channel memory I/O?
(4GB DDR4 sticks are cheap these days, two give 8gb dual-channel.. 8gb sticks are OK in price for a major bump to 16gb. I have two 16gb for 32GB total in my machine, and there is zero disk caching, everything is in RAM)
have you ever *used* Batocera? Even an HDD is pretty quick with it. This isn't Windows. It's a specialized Linux distro. That being said, I'm sure you're right. It's just... overkill, and you probably won't feel a difference.
Second question is a good one, but he's not answering many questions.
@@SeeJayPlayGames …yes, i _have_ used Batocera
I did not say it was ‘not quick’… I said ‘there are ways of making it QUICKER’
, and some of those are trivial to implement. And some are very low-cost.
Could I put movies on something like this?
Where can I get the fully loaded image?
Personally I'd rather go with a more modern Mini PC from like Beelink, Minisforum, etc. You get Alder Lake Celeron Systems (N95 / N100) (performance is on the level of i5 8250u) for less than 200$ but with modern I/O and way lower TDP and an even smaller form factor. Or you could spend a bit more and get Ryzen 5000+ systems, which are valid for even lesser demanding modern PC games.
I Downloaded Batocera On A Dell Laptop And PS2 Original Xbox And Xbox 360 Games Don't Play Too Good Except Nintendo's Gameboy Advance DS Gamecube Sony PSP And Super Nintendo Works Perfectly
Which one provides better performance? The G2 or the G3?
They are extremely similar and it depends on which processor the g3 has. If they both have i5 then it’s the same, but if the g3 you are looking at has a i6 then it would be faster. The g3 is more modern in general so it makes more sense to go with that.
@@JaceJonesie no such thing as an i6
I know this vid was done a while ago now but do u recall if u can play these gamecube, psp and such with a x2 resolution?
So would keep this one, or the G2? I feel like Switch and Xbox playeed better on the G2 than on this one. What did you think?
They're pretty much the same. I think it depends on the Xbox titles. Switch seemed the same to me.
How does the HP EliteDesk 800 G3 Mini PC compare with a Raspberry Pi 5? I want to play the arcade version of Marvel vs Capcom 2.
How much did you pay for the 4 tb ssd hard drive?
Does all xbox games run as well? I would like to play some Buffy again.
4:13 What Kind Of Screwdriver Is That
Should get the same but with a Ryzen 2xxxx processor they have better integrated GPU than any Intel
Agreed. I just got a refurbished 705 G4 with R5-PRO-2400G for $105. I'm in the process or adding another 8GB SO-DIMM to make it "complete."
@@catsspat Please do share your results if you use it for retrogame 👌
Could you use this on an At Games Ultimate Arcade? Would love to know if you can and how to do it.
I want to fallow one of your builds and add Clone Hero into batocera. Do you have any idea if that’d be possible or a how to?
Hi mate, is the i5 version the better one for gaming? Or if I can find a i7 model is that better still?
Currently looking at the g2 800 version but I think this g3 looks slicker so probably source this model just a bit confused which chip set to grab.
Try running those games on a raspberry pi. It'll never happen. I'll never get another sbc. These little PCs are the way to go.
Yep 100%
Hey! Have you checked out the Xbox and/or PlayStation versions of HORI's Fighting Commander Octa? I wanna set mine up for RetroPie!
Is this open to any mini PC, or just the HP Elite Desk?
Any x86 architecture although Batocera has frontend builds on their download page for basically any system.
You should make a video showing how to install batocera on a hard drive
He did like 3 weeks ago . Its called make your own game console for $100 with this Mini pc. He was doing it with the G2 model of this computer.
Great Vid. I got the g3. Nearly everything from Nintendo works finde through retrobat. But Switchemulation isn't really playable. Do i get better results with emulation through batocera? Do you know any Hardware or software tweaks fror the g3
I have a question, given that I followed this and build up an arcade machine with a mini PC. If you attach a power switch, how do you turn OFF the PC? I assume just cutting off the power via the switch may result in corruption if done often. So is there an option via the OS to switch the pc off and then turn the switch off or there's something better ?
Do you have directions to create the HD you installed?
Will PS2 Original Xbox Xbox 360 Run In Full Speed
What's the cheapest we can go for ps3 emulation?
Anyone know how to set this to power on when power is applied? (Aka when I turn on the power strip)
Guys, what controller do you recommend? And/Or how do I connect my PS4 controller(s) to this thing?
You can buy a USB bluetooth dongle and pair it with the PS4 controller.
@@FGLKyouma thanks, but somehow didn't work for me. I ordered a GameSir controller, that one is wired. Hope this will work
I got the mini Pc G2 256 gig mini HP pc... would that play xbox 360 games on it... it does have 16 gigs of ram?
How do I buy this? I can’t seem to get to any of the links that show a price anywhere. Is batocera already built into the pc?
How would I go about connecting my Nintendo pro controller to the HP? I added an Asus Bluetooth USB but I still can't get it to connect.
Hi can i ask would performance improve much with either 16gb ram rather thab 8gb or rhe i5 7500 rather than 6500 which options would give more power. Thabks
8gb of ram is plenty tbh...its only around wii u and ps3 emulation that 16gb may help...i have 16gb in mine but only because they stuck an extra 8gb in for free when i bought it....8gb is fine
Is there a way to contact you about getting the ROMs and bios for a hard drive?
my website has a contact page
Could i get two and run one like a regular pc to setup the other one for emulation also where are you getting all the roms
I saw the g2 video but does this emulate the same consoles g2 does? Is it powerful enough to emulate nintendo switch and ps3 games?
Will The HP Prodesk 600 G3 Mini Desktop Play Batocera
what gen i5 is this? 6th? 7th?
Can this run Wind Waker and Twilight princess well?
I'm curious, can we use the VGA output of that mini PC or Batocera won't see it as a valid output, lets say I have an old CRT 19" monitor that will be dedicated to retro gaming, that thing only has VGA and DVI support (the cables is actually fixed into it, we can't change it) that monitor works fine after being refurbished by a specialist, the display is 1280x1024 and support 120hz refresh rate (it was used with autocad 3d something in its glorious past)
Sorry that no one has replied to your (easy) question in 10 months 🙄 but yes, it SHOULD work. I think it didn't show on screen in the video because he wasn't using VGA. PCs tend to check that sort of thing on POST. You'll have to do something else for speakers, but yes, it should absolutely work and Batocera should identify it and maximize the display settings to 1280x1024. Or perhaps 1280x960 (which would be best for emulation of systems designed for 4:3 TVs). I don't know if it will necessarily do 120Hz without tweaking.
where do i get the roms
You will always get a thumbs up on the video from me ;)
Nice get!
