Trains Racing Side-By-Side on the NS Harrisburg Line

- Two races on two seperate days, happenings like this are not uncommon on the Harrisburg Line due to the stack of unidirectional traffic at different times of the day.
3-15-09 at Richland we see hot trailers overtaking a freight.

NS SD70M-2 2752
NS SD60I 6739

NS D9-40CW 9663
NS D9-40CW 9424
(Again I apologize for the choppy look because I taped in interlaced mode rather than progressive)
Then on 3-21-09 (this time in progressive format thankfully)... 34A leads a soon-to-overtake 21M through the downtown rough-track of Lebanon, PA.

NS GP40-2 3004
21M
NS D9-40CW 9884
NS SD60I 6757 "Conrail Quality"
Unfortunately I had to go to the "dark-side" for this shot to work out, but it didn't turn out bad at all.
Enjoy, and I'll try my best to catch some more of these during the day, it happens mostly at night.

Thank you all! Авто/Мото
I was a conductor for CP RAIL along the susquehanna river, and some towns (like Halifax) we could stick our hand out the window and almost touch the houses.
oh dang
Now that's some superb parallel action! Great video!!
wow, the 2nd set of trains even ended at the same time! Great video!
Wow! Super cool! Thanks much for posting and thanks for including the whole train in the video. Also - rather scary bouncing locos!
Wow. On the second set of trains, you can almost see the springs on the locomotive hopping up and down due to the bumps on the tracks.
When I see that in vids, I can't help wonder how crew feel about all that bouncing around, especially at speed!
That makes me....____ my pants just watching!(jk.🤣) but DAMN!
Absolutely terrific videos, new sub!👍🏿
Awesome Catch! Seriously crazy bounce-action in the 2nd scene. Suspension system working overtime! That, folks, is why crossings indicate how many tracks are present. Man that's fantastic stuff. Thanks for sharing.
One of them had a Conrail SD60M on it!
And the other one had a Slug Unit :v
Dude you freakin rock!
5 min. before both of those shots, when you looked down the rails at the CTCs and saw green lights on both rails, you musta sprinted to the car to get set-up. Still there was no guarantee that they'd run that closely together. Born under a luck star, or sumpin.
Your NS is some of the best year round. Keep it coming.
There are bridges there at 9th. and 10th streets. No more bouncing trains over bad crossings in Lebanon,Pa.
Great work! Seeing two trains side by side is really lucky to catch. What power!
Bounce....bounce....bounce!!!
Commander65 I noticed that too!
very nice video. Loved it that you captured the trains bouncing over the crossing. And thanks so much for the great documentation on your videos. Outstanding. Looking forward to more. Oh, and thanks for using a tripod!
Very nice work again! Glad to see the CR unit mixed in there..like old times on the Harrisburg/Reading lines.
8899896: cabooses are still used, but on locals and work trains now.
Never seen that kind of action. You'd think the little burg they run through would have some kind of speed ordinance, especially with what appears to be tracks in sore need of repairs. Still, great video and great trains.
Eric, this vid is great! I caught some side by side action in Hershey before too, I loved it. You never let us down that's for sure! 5 * rate!
Just found and watched this. Awesome - I bet it was a rush to have two coming in your face at once - and you don't even think what happens if something does go wrong with one of them!
two horn shows baby wahooo!
WOW That is so cool
Wow I'm surprised nobody noticed you here! :)
UwU
Awesome, I never seen anything like this. I have seen trains go the same way and some stop or wait for the other but never this.
Great. Love the two trains running together.
I remember when NS was like this... I miss the good old days.
the road crossing on the second pair needs some attention! !!
At 2:39 ish, that crossing is in need of repair.
Lol they did the same horn show for you! Nice catch!
Moving America by rail...I am sure I commented on this before, but why not again, fantastic video!
AWESOME! This is terrific!
hmm at 2:37 they really get a nice ride over that grade crossing huh haha, sweet video!
Nice catches!
Hope they correct that dip at the grade crossing on the north track.
Glad that they go together because they block grade crossings for less time.
Dude that was awesome! Kinda scary to see them bouncing in the 2nd video! The SD70M-2 in the first was really cool and so were the 2 crews!
5*****!
Excellent catches!
Love those drag races!
this is good ive never seen them beside each other going the same way
WOW WEE Great job!! 5 stars Ive to Harrisburg PA many many times and finding a train there is very easy, but a double NICE CATCH!!!!!
Truly amazing great catches
Awesome video. Can't beat side by side running.
damn that dip in the rails was crazy
Sweet video, Eric! I wish you coming back again! :)
I love this when it happens! I have had a 3 way chase once
AWSOME VIDEO
Excellent video!
Wow, the 34A and 21M was just quite insanely crazy. Thats something to see..
Nice Video
whatup lol
i like much you videos..nices quality¡¡¡, places and the line NS...
Very nice Eric! Very very cool.
If any one is wounderin what determines how many locomotives it takes per train ? They go by the tons of the train cars.
In the second half, the first train, do I see a cut down yard slug as unit #3or am I mistaken?
Awesome! very nice keep'em comin!
oustanding! Was that a slug at 2:05 'ish??
That crossing really shook 'em up, I bet..
But running side by side, if Heaven forbid, one derails----wow, wouldn't even wanta think about it..
great video
Very nice catches! ive only seen this once
@conrailbuff
This doesn't happen often. But 2 trains or less? How long are you there? We got about 40+ daily and about 15-20 run in daylight over the summer.
Simply Awesome.
hahah thos trains are really bouncing in that second clip. awsome catch!
Awesome catch
Recommending videos more than a decade later. nice YT. real nice.
Great vídeo
Whao What A Race I Wonder Who Made It Up To The Finish Line......
too awsome!
they really need to smoothen those crossings... Nice vid though
nice catch great video
cool vid..great speed..5* and favs men!
what a catch!!!
Wow just wow
Great video and awesome sound! How come freight trains hardly ever have cabooses any more?
Newer technology
Bet it would have been a rush from hell standing between them
good catch with the slug! Where is this?
Cool man!!!Very rare that i would see 2 trains side by side in the same direction.Looks like some track repair needs to been done(Is this shot taken on CSX trackage?)
AWESOME !
who won?! i saw a race at ridgefield park, NJ one train was an intermodal with BNSF in the lead--- the other was an autorack train with CR in the lead- it was more of a turtle race since both trains departed the yard lol cool stuff
Great vid! 3:20 shout out to Vermont Railway! (My home railroad)
They are like dancing on the rails!
The first location you set your camera at, what road is it and mile post?
Both trains ending simultaneously at 4:20!
awesome video nice job 5*******
don't see this very often & nice "slug" on the 1st train
Gotta love NS. they know how to run a railroad
The stretch must be zoned at 100mph .....
Long ass train's

2:08 #912 Is that B unit booster? I thought they ain't no longer in use.
slug
Sweeet video!
what caused the cars to 'hop'?
the slug is for extra traction and braking
Great video Eric! One thing, 34A's fifth unit. It's 3004, not 3002.
Wicked!!!
Awesome stuff. 5*
Believe me dude, 10N NEVER loses!
Makes me want to go. There and do that
Why the heck are they hopping like that???????
O_o nice
I can tell this was taken in Lebanon because of the awful crossings. I'm waiting for a trailer to bounce off one of these days.
The 21M/34A race began and ended just perfectly. Too bad my 10N lost...
