- March 18, 2009: Five-engine 19G gets whiplash while crossing 11 crossings in downtown Lebanon on the NS Harrisburg Line. I bet the crew was holding on!
Power: (Slots 3-5 are 92 Day JBS)
NS D8-40C 8300 with one whailing Leslie RS-3L
NS D9-40CW 9383
NS SD40-2 3429 "Conrail"
NS GP38-2 5283
NS GP38-2 5288
January 3, 2013: Also, this scene no longer exists, the buildings have since been ripped down and bridges have / are being constructed where this very crossing once was! Also, the tracks are in much better shape.
Good news, track equipment is coming through soon. I guess they want to touch-up after seeing this, LOL!
Dis iz coool❤🤫but don't tell everyone dud
Let's hope so!
Never ceases to amaze me how long freight trains can be ! Anyway, the worst bump appears to be right at the far side of the grade crossing.
What an incredible lashup! Great catch under unique circumstances
You've got the same Canon as I, and you're doing wonderful things with it. Keep up the excellent train videos...especially any videos with the engines at notch 8!
I love the long horn blast on the first train. Great shot.
That wasn't a long horn blast. The air line to the horn on the rear was bleeding or clogged and causes it to keep blowing a bit after you stop pulling the lever.
Idk why, but I find it extremely satisfying watching the cars go by.
That Conrail geep looked like it was about to come off the tracks!
Roostoe Multimedia it’s an SD40
@@caderamsey8878 Correct. This is why we pay attention to the *TRUCKS*
@@DaytonDistrictRailfan yes ,JPs have 2 trucks
@@Jonathan-RF-402 Dude, I meant SD40 trucks are 3 axle and GP trucks are two axle.
@@DaytonDistrictRailfan ok it doesn't really matter
Wow, you can actually see the trucks and shocks go up and down on the engines. Nice video :)
It's a bumpy ride, but that doesn't necessarily make it dangerous. The reason for the bumps is the close proximity of crossings... there is enough track bed to keep the gauge in place and I don't think we have to worry about rolling a rail here... I imagine when summer comes they'll tamp it, etc, but the clean conditions don't last long. Trains do 40 MPH over this, though some crews probably lay-back. I understand your concern, though, it looks like one heck-of-a-ride.
Wow..never seen such a bumpy train before! Loved the horn!
Dheeraj Rao u only liked it because Indian horns sound like that
the crew is suddenly not feeling so flash. makes ya feel green just watching it haha
man that is awesome love bouncing trains.
"Slow down, grab the wall".....
This reminds me of LIRR M-series (M1,3,7,and 9) Trains bouncing and breaking FRA laws while running on the tracks
Great footage, that track needs immediate attention.
let me tell you this, That is one Whailing Nathan P-3 with a working #1, silent #2 and a #4 barely working on low air supply to the bell. I have done research on many railroad picture archives on this loco before the year 2010. But later on It did switch to a well working Leslie RS-3L. It's still sad to know that the c40-8 locomotives are gone now, you will always be there in our hearts. 💖
Yes, it is incredible that this route is bumpy like many are in Brazil.
As for I saw, the huge masts remind the NYCRR or PRR tracks.
If I can dance, if hippos can dance, if cars can dance, so can trains.
Fix our infrastructure.
Are you thinking what I am thinking? ;-)
Haha yeah, but I don't think it matters what railroad you're on, if you have this many crossings in a row the tracks will become "spaghetti" quickly.
Holy Shit !!! That is a wreck waiting to happen ! I can only hope this was remedied soon after your incredible catch here. Wow !!
Nice to see a D8-40C. I caught NS 8310 a couple weeks ago in Decatur headin' south.

“Nice and easy”
“Oh god help”
LOVE TRAINS
Over here we call that cyclic top. The top and line has a series of dips and peaks. If these match the freaquency and harmonics of the vehicles suspension traveling over it, it can quite litteraly bounce the train off the track. It has happened! Lucky for NS its about 40 here and not 60!!
Oh no sound like a Powder Keg Roller Coaster or freight train or Ganit Norfolk Southern 0:01
It needs a new horn. But it is gone now so it can't get a new horn. NICE VID!
DAMN THAT LOOKS LIKE A FUN RIDE
I work for hallcon I have had crews till me that they sometimes bottom out on dips in the track and that if it's to bad can rip the train apart.
Bumpy ride from a thoroughbred, since Norfolk Southern is the thoroughbred of transportation.
amazing they are allowed that speed
Anytime I see those things bouncing or rocking I always feel uneasy. I think it's going to detail and squash me like a bug.
*derail
Yeah, pretty bumpy.. .
You'll notice that the locomotives bounce much more than the wagons do. this is due to their finer suspension systems. While those vertical oscillations look conspicuous, especially with five contiguous units at the head to the train, the suspension systems on the locos help to maintain wheel/rail contact, tractive effort while ameliorating theeffects of discontinuities from less than ideal track.
+Hy Phenation Not too sure, but I believe the trucks on modern engines like these allow the wheels/axles to some how 'steer' in some way; allowing some kind of either, play, or very regulated axle swiveling of some kind, that they're not fixed in one place..Some new technology...No ?
I think the train actually moved more vertically than horizontally!
What are the string of faded orange NS hoppers at about 0:45?
Spartan cab Dash 8s are my favorite locomotive.
The engines bounced pretty good, but the cars hardly at all. How's come?
The reason why the trains are jumping because the train track is like a little bit messed up.
I cant stop listening to that horn!
that horn❤️❤️❤️❤️
Forget horn signals, HOLD DOWN THE BUTTON!
WOW!!! Epic catch indeed!
@o00o00ozy You are correct on that comment. Mud is a problem on every railroad, and you can have the best drainage ditches in the world along side the track's, but it still will not prevent the water from seeping up through the subgrade& roadbed. With the tracks pumping up& down all the time when trains go over the track it will eventually make mud come up through the ballast.
What horn was that? Not a Nathan..
Why does the horn sound like that?
+CSX & NS Railfan Sounds like a foul K5LA.
Tykell Truitt its a RS5T or a RS3L
+CSX & NS Railfan You're right. I just Google searched the engine and it looks like an RS3L.
CSX & NS Railfan I just subbed to you.
CSX & NS Railfan ikr sounds like a trumpet
Looks like Chuggington and CGI Thomas.
Has NS heard of that thing, umm, oh what's it called, hmmmm, oh yeah A RAIL GRINDER!
hi, thanks for your movies ★★★★★
Did the horn get stuck
CONNGRATS ON 100K
@epistte there ballast cars. POWER TO THE SPARTAN DASH 8!
Is that the building in the intro to The Office?
Look at them boys bounce bounce baby bounce lol
There’s something about this, it’s so bad it actually looks kinda interesting
Someone's bartering for a Lebanon cabride :)
Five unit lsshup going hell bent for leather man that's music
Eric, NS is using you as they're undercover agent.. lol
I read many of the comments and I understand they have complex suspension systems. I still don't see how they stayed on the track. I'd be so nervous where you were standing. If they derail you'll never move fast enough.
The train wheels can talk as well
I’m sad that that engine with that beautiful horn was scraped :(
Looked like a bumpy ride for the crew.
Wow. Those engines were skipping on them tracks.
I would have looked at the pavement at the crossing there to see if there are any scrape marks...
like a line of ponies prancing by - so this is how steel rails wear out, unevenly - or is it due to roadbed settling
Roadbed I guess
interesting horn, and nice orange cars !!
In case it hasn’t been said already, they should probably get a surfacing gang through there
Riding in a C40-8 is already bad enough...
...at least 90 cars, whoa!
I like C40-8's & 9's better than wide cabs, thumbs up if you agree.....please :P
But C40-8W's have wide cab variants.
EDIT 9/14/2017: I forgot to mention that C44-9W's have wide cab variants as well, but that was obvious.
@o00o00ozy The csx A-line has that, and Amtrak runs on it too!!! Well what do ya expect its csx with weeds growing in the tracks. Well theres alot of crossings on it so you can expect that to be the cause but ehh watevz.
This video became a JUMP UP and down meme
@lespaulguy32 I know right, but i was jk about the thumbs up xD
Ouch! Anyone else see how close the last trailing unit comes to jumping the track?
Dude. That. Was a Conrail unit.
I think this is similar video of this but it's in a different state
You know they make a comment back at the yard to track maintenance!
Norfolk southern bring your kid to work day NOT BRING YOUR KID TO WORK DAY AND A TRAMPOLINE!!!!
If I didn't know better I'd say this was on CSX...
This needs more Hardbass
is there a step within the track?
Is like departing Rugeley Town
The horn sounds like scary music
Whoa!
They should open the ballast cars right there to fill in the spaces.
Im only here becuz someone posted this in discord andi have it saved
There’s something wrong about that RS3L
The train looks weird and it has a very scary horn
Oh you naughty boys!
*jump around intensifies*
I would think some of the NS managers in Norfolk would have a shit fit if they'd seen this video as strict as they are.
That is one apocolyptic horn!!
Nice Horn!!!!
@cu29640 Its not the RR any rr can have that problem like Up or Bnsf and o00o00ozy is right that many crossings your in for a ride and if it was a hot day the road can expand.
I had never seen a bouncing train before but nice video though.
Lebanon, IN?
@DouglasP201 I'm totally agreeing with this statement
Damn that train horn needs a little work!
The track needs to be repaired. You can see the track moving to much. Rails look a little bent & compromised ,where it meets the asphalt. Train traveling a little to fast too.
Prime conrail would beat any train company today
