Tatale (Spiced Fried Mashed Plantain)

  • PREP TIME: 10 MINUTES
    COOK TIME: 20 MINUTES
    SERVES: 4-6
    INGREDIENTS
    2 ripe plantains
    1 cup soft flour
    3 scotch bonnet pepper
    1 medium red onion
    1 medium ginger
    3 African orchid nutmeg
    1 tsp cloves
    1 tsp black peppercorn
    2 spring onions, chopped.
    Vegetable Oil
    Salt
    DIRECTION
    • Blend scotch bonnet pepper, onion, ginger, cloves, black peppercorn and African orchid nutmeg into a smooth mixture.
    • Peel and cut the ripe plantains into big chunks.
    • Mash the plantains, add the blended mixture, salt, stir, add flour and mix.
    • Heat oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
    • Scoop a spoonful of the mixture into the oil and shallow fry until golden brown.
    • place then on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
    • Tatale ready to serve. Garnish with spring onion.

      Laura Afutu you can try any flour but the commonly used is cassava flour
      You can use corn flour too but that makes it a bit coarse and heavy

      Maize/corn flour is mostly used, not cassava flour.
      But to each his own, I guess
