    Great video. This set up does have its limitations. For those with a short bed tundra, the canister of the Retrax takes up 20% of the bed. lol. The other limitation in my mind is the off-road weight capacity of the Overhaul when using the cover kit. It's only 180lbs which is probably ok for a tent, but for me - I'm looking to carry a canoe + multiple kayaks or maybe even a fully-outfitted raft. Another option is Tracrac SR and one of the compatible Bak covers, such as the MX4. The Tracrac can hold more weight but the bars are not height-adjustable. There's no perfect setup but I think the yakima/Retrax is probably the best right now. Another note: if you ever want to take the Overhaul off, be sure you torque it back down to the cover to spec - it's easy to strip/overtighten the bolts without a torque wrench.

      Oh man great point about the canister! I completely forgot about that!! You're right, another massive downfall for it and I have the long bed. Its a total pain to bring my kayak anywhere now. Really good point!

    That shot from the drone with the car driving is just insane. I suspect it was a one man operation which makes that even more insane.

    Good review, awesome rack, is same with mine, mine also have a minor leak when I washed my truck, just in the edge of the tailgate but is not much. I probably can make a better adjustment to fit right in center by making sure left and right are perfectly in center, and I can pull it the tonneau a bit closer to the edge of tailgate with that two plastic tailgate protecter that came with can give me an idea where the tonneau cover should laid. It must seat right in the center, however I don’t think any tonneau cover will 100% waterproof or water tight. The manufacture must come with the idea to make a better design like have a better rubber seal that can protect to keep the bed of the truck dry while you wash your truck or rain. But the most part I love about it is, absolutely look pretty damn cool, and lockable plus you can storage you value things back there safe that is the 👍👍 up. Mine are Retractable Tonneau Pro XR is cost me $2240 bucks around that but, I’m very happy with the product. Now what I need is to buy a rack like your if you can help me where to get it. but my truck is 2023 F-150 Platinum black appearance package so I wanna something good back there I also cyclist, so I can mount bike ruck back there, that would be look killer

    Close the retrax cover with the key handle. So you don’t have to open the bed

    retrax now has the XR that has a channel in which the rack towers slide into and can be adjusted (no drilling)

    Thanks for the video. I'm thinking it might be more economical and practical to put a roof tent on a hard shell; it seems like it would be more straight forward and offer more vertical space for storage. maybe better water shedding too?

      @gonefishinzach7811  2 года назад +1

      Definitely can't go wrong with a soft shell. I wouldn't put a hard shell onto a topper unless its really strong. If you put heavy hard shell on a fiberglass topper there's a good chance the connection will crack. But a soft shell on a fiberglass would be solid and you have way more space to get creative for storage if you have a topper

    Your last comment cracks me up about paying someone to install this because you couldn’t do it. I found your video after watching a dude and his wife and kids install this in about 20 minutes LOL.. Your video shows it much more clearly installed though which is nice! I had no idea it cut the weight down with all of this together. That’s a bummer. Thanks for sharing!

    What width bars did you get for this? Looks like you have a bit of overhang for additional accessories

    I compare the Retrax Pro vs Roll N Lock MaxTrac. Both are compatible with the Yakima bed tracks due both use practically the same T Rail system. I notice that the Roll N Lock is better weather seal, don’t have the problem of have to open the tailgate in order to close the cover like the Retrax. I like the pulling cord that Roll N Lock provide to close the cover, you don’t have to wall in the side to close like Retrax. Both hold more or less the same amount of weight. I highly recommend to anyone that install any rack with tent on the bed also instal bed stiffeners. This will help with the situation that the cover lose the adjustment to close. Nice video.

    I'm looking at the same set up for Jeep gladiator.
    I have two more checkbox to go through:
    1- I know Yakima has side plates to add rotopax and tools, but how to add a side 270 awning to it? Any recommendation that is compatible with this combination?
    2- how versatile it is to add side light or end lights?
    Thanks

    • @gonefishinzach7811
      @gonefishinzach7811  2 года назад

      hey there! I've also been looking into how to add an awning and I haven't found a totally straight forward answer. But It seems like everyone that has put an awning on the overhaul has had to buy brackets or make a DIY L bracket to attach to to the yakima rack. It seems like no awning will provide you everything you'll need to go straight onto the rack
      Adding lights shouldn't be a big deal. I haven't done it but there's plenty of mounting points to attach them too. My biggest problem with the retrax is the water problem. It is not very water tight

    • @hamidnia7242
      @hamidnia7242 2 года назад

      @@gonefishinzach7811 One solution that I was thinking of, is to add a lock and go roof rack on top of the roof and attach the 270 awning to it
      The other thing is when I look at the picture of most awnings, they're only good when the sun is right above you. Any angle, you'll loos sunshade.
      That's why I am thinking completely be away from 270 awnings and go with something like king camp

      @@hamidnia7242 Ya I've also noticed the sun problem. My think was getting a regular awning with the side walls. And just putting down the walls on the sunny side
