    here's Owens recipe.
Hi Mav! I'm 8 years old and I watched your video with my Mom. I came up with a food recipe so let me tell you. So you need celery and onions and potatoes and oil and onion powder and garlic powder and parsley. First, chop the ingredients, simmer the ingredients in oil then add in water then add in instant cheese potatoes. It's potato soup!

When I was a kid, my father took us ‘rural’ camping in Maine. He was a tough blood and guts type of man. There were No bathrooms, no water supply just the nearby river.. Took over an hr to put half of an old army tent, together because for poles my father chopped his own from tree limbs.
It got so cold that night my brother and I were shivering, so my father lined our cots with newspaper and that made all the difference!

I work in HVAC and one of the things learned over the time is that CO alarms only go off when the level of gas reaches a critical point (Detectors that display the level of CO in the environment are better, and will let you know if there is any at all, but the sensors also go bad over time. I'd recommend one with a built in battery, as they're designed to last as long as the sensor is, then you replace the unit once it dies.), but that CO also builds up in the blood over time by bonding to the hemoglobin and can cause low level poisoning through long term and repeated exposure. I'd recommend finding a way to stay warm that doesn't involve combustion if possible. Even if it involves heating rocks or water over a fire outside of your car then moving them into it. Looks like a fun trip though!

At the tender age of 13, I was camping out in a lean-to with my fellow Boy Scouts in Fleischmanns, NY, when the overnight temperature dropped to -20F. My propane "grasshopper" stove wouldn't work because it was so cold. My relished Spagettios were frozen solid in the can. The scoutmaster had a grapefruit that was frozen solid, that sounded like a cannon ball when he dropped it on the wooden lean-to floor. I also learned that you are supposed to place your canteen inside of your sleeping bag at night. My aluminum canteen was split down the middle when the sun came up.

Hey Owen for cold weather camping what we did in the Army was wrap our wool blanket around our feet in the sleeping bag. We were told the feet are the body's thermostat and when they get cold it causes capillaries in the body to contract, restricting blood flow to preserve core temp. By keeping the feet warm we'd keep circulation up and stay warm at the expense of burning more calories.

Just a couple tips if you want 'em:
-Invest in a sleeping bag rated for -50C. A high quality one is double layered, can use a single layer for warmer nights. (Keep clothes for next day at feet; sleep with just a shirt & boxers to avoid moisture build-up.)
-Get a quality Lamp Heater (will last you 8 hours with just one of those propane tanks you bought.)

Yeah, anytime Fahrenheit gets to negative numbers it’s freaking cold. Commercial walk-in freezers are supposed to stay around 0. On the scale, 0 is as cold compared to the freezing point as 64 is warm.
-18 is just insane without real prep. His setup seems fine down to 0, but to go further needs just that extra push. Heavier insulation and/or better ventilation and a real heat source like a small wood stove, radiator or maybe a heat sink inside sleeping area that gathers heat from engine system during operation and dispenses overnight.
It is a nice looking area with that fake grass and the way he did his roof.

We spent a month out there with the first week and a half living out of our HMMWVs. The heaters in those things barely work as it is and we had to keep turret hatch open because someone was up on the gun at all times pulling security. That let the little bit of heat we had out. When you were in the driver seat you could warm your fingers up a bit but the back two were just ice boxes. Shocked to this day no one lost fingers or toes.

    • @Andyshine77
      @Andyshine77 3 года назад +27

@@csmith563 Home detectors only read high levels, and will not register low levels below 25ppm, and only when that level is maintained for 28 days. CO builds up in the system and takes a long time to get out, so low levels build up over time. They sell low level detectors for use in cars and for HVAC use for people who may be exposed to CO regularly. The OSHA standard is only 50ppm for one 8 hour day, once a year. I saw you getting really tired early, a symptom of low level CO exposures. Will it kill you? likely not right away, but over time it will affect your long term health. The home detectors are for extream conditions not monitoring levels on the fly. Do a search for a good low level CO detector/monitor. I bought one after doing some research, found out starting your car in the garage and not letting it air out is a bad idea, levels go up to 100ppm instantly. Just trying to help. Later brother.

Bath towels in all windows ( tuck them in the windows or your heat will leave the inside quicker ) and fill the back floorboard ( both sides ) and put blankets against doors and I personally have a sleeping bag up behind the back seat dividing the very back from the front. Sleep under 5 blankets during the winter and in the summer I made screens with magnets around the sides for my windows. When we got snow a couple of weeks ago I was in my truck the whole time. Just in a t shirt and sweats and quite comfortable. In the truck still, window cracked about 1 inch, t shirt and sweats still nice. In the lower 30's at night still in NW Arkansas.

Mav, I'm a vehicle locksmith by trade. Your Ford OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) remote starter has built in settings to prevent the vehicle from draining all the fuel and the battery power. First, you only can remote-start the vehicle for 3 cycles outside of the vehicle. The next is that your run time will be limited to maybe 15-30 minutes. This was done to prevent the vehicle from being left running too long and using up all the fuel. Cycle your key in the ignition lock and start it like normal to reset the number of start cycles to 3. Keep in mind as well, your hood has a trigger switch and the vehicle needs to see that and all the doors closed for remote start to work.

JUST A HEADS UP - You NEED to have the CO alarm on the ceiling, Carbon Monoxide is lighter than air so rises to the top. If you have it down low then by the time the alarm is triggered you’ll probably be long gone. Stay safe and good content 👍🏻

Where Should I Place a Carbon Monoxide Detector?
Because carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air and also because it may be found with warm, rising air, detectors should be placed on a wall about 5 feet above the floor. The detector may be placed on the ceiling. Do not place the detector right next to or over a fireplace or flame-producing appliance. Keep the detector out of the way of pets and children. Each floor needs a separate detector. If you are getting a single carbon monoxide detector, place it near the sleeping area and make certain the alarm is loud enough to wake you up.
