I’m from California desert. I can’t imagine sleeping in my car at that temp when I bundle up 3x with a hoodie to sleep in a well insulated house (heat is off). 😂 I used to tell my mother I love the new snow like that because it sounds like you’re walking on corn starch! If you ever packed down with a spoon, it makes the same exact noise😂😂❤❤❤
Little tip that may help in cold areas. Get yourself a couple melon sized rocks that you can heat by a fire. Pull them away from the fire for about 30 minutes. Wrap them in a towel and place it at the foot of your blanket and you'll stay warm/hot all night. Just make sure they're not rocks that are from a river. Over exposure to moisture can cause the rocks to explode when heated due to steam.
Good girl, I admire your spirit. We've loved on the road, sometimes with five children, and we've been kicked out of usa, canada, and the eu. But we found a small croft house with only three walls that we called our cave. Now it has four walls, a wood stove, a glass extension, sheep, chicken, a highland cow, two dogs, cats, and solar panels with a wind mill. We live of very little, PUT! It worked out fine. So never give up, ever.
I admire you for so many reasons. You are doing things I could have never done. If you were my daughter I’d be so worried about you though. Have fun on your adventures!
I appreciate you Rosa, thank you for being on Earth with me. You are the reason I cook now and it's made a big impact on my health and wellness. Keep safe and we all love you ❤

Honestly, I was broke as hell living in my car. I had to go and do temp jobs just to get enough money to pay for gas. It was a fun adventure. Your mindset determines how difficult it is. You can view it as a hardship or an adventure. I chose the latter and did just fine.

You are such a badass Rosa! I feel like I'm about to die when it's 20 degrees when I go to start my car for work in the morning. 😂 Safe travels and camping!
Ur a brave soul I love it. I do live in a vehicle, but it’s a truck camper so it’s quite easy. I used to chase the snow for snowboarding around the country in winter. I learned all kinds of tricks to stay warm. I’m glad you’re warming your car up in the middle of the night that makes sense. I’ve got a diesel truck so I’ve got a remote start and I was able to warm it up once in a while when it got that cold. At least you’re not dealing with diesel. Anyways, love the adventure take care.
@2:27 - engine block heater ( usually about 300 watts ) can keep the battery ( it might freeze and get destroyed if the charge is low) and vehicle warmer indirectly. A typical block heater installation including labor is about $150.
@@theutopiannomad - cold places like that likely have public parking with electrical outlets ( hospital for example ) - portable gas generator ($300) is a good option - can run for 20 hours with one filling at 300 watts

I'm glad you decided not to get into the hot springs in the higher altitude, I could tell it was cold out there. I know you luv those hot springs, but it's the getting out part for me lol. You're so beautiful ❤
I strongly recommend an electric blanket with a portable battery. Idaho winters are no joke. I lived in the mountains for a lot of years and my lungs are slightly messed up from the times it hit -40 or even the -20 and I had to be outside shoveling snow off the roof, so the roof didn’t cave in.
Welcome to Montana! It was -27 (-51 Real Feel) in Billings about a week ago and it was awful! Missoula definitely stayed a little warmer. Hope you enjoyed your time here! 😊
My cousin had a Joni handwarmer that was as big as a breadbox for deer hunting. We always laughed about that but he was the only one that was ever warm. He would shoot a buck, field dress it, then put the handwarmer inside the body cavity. Buy the time he dragged it back to camp the steaks were cooked for dinner. Seagrams and a deer steak for everybody.
It was -17f here for several days and I was out camping, too. The first night was rough with just a blanket, but the second day I layered it into my Kelty sleeping bag and was just fine. Stay safe!
@@lifeinmyelementI agree. But I'm ready for the warmth to come back 😂 that, or I need to break out the diesel heater for my rooftop tent. But if you want to hit some more hot springs, we literally have a town named Hot Springs here in Arkansas. My daughter and I would always be down to camp with ya!
As someone who lives in tropical country in my entire life, -33° is going to be a nightmare for me. It's summer to where I am right now. So, I'm using AC to cool down a bit, but I can't stand below 23°. 😅😅😅
Idling your (cold) engine is never a good idea, but in cold weather it’s especially bad. You don’t have the oil pressure you need, and you are wearing everything out more quickly. The hest thing you can do for the engine is start it, idle for 15-30 seconds, and then drive slowly and carefully until the engine (and 5he oil) is warm. Stay safe!
I wouldn’t sleep overnight in dangerous temperatures outside except on or near a 24 hour place in case your car freezes and you’re stranded. I would then commute to Hotsprings. And if in an area where its no phone reception irregardless of weather- please invest in SOS/Emergency Satellite phone ( research more popular now) that’s sends a help with location beacon.
Rosa, advice for next time. Dont turn on the heater the moment you turn on your car. Make sure everything is off. Start the car with the heat off, any electronics, etc. Then once the car starts to warm up on the temp guage finallt turn the heat on low, and then gradually turn it up. Dont just start the car on with the heat on full blast when its below zero like that.
@herlastvoyage starting the car is what takes most of the battery. When it's super cold like that your battery is already weakened some, so you just wanna make sure all the power is focused on getting the car started and not running the heater and all the other electronics. Your oil my also be thickened slightly and everything just needs a little bit of time to get going. That's why most cars make that horrible noise when they get started in negative temps. Besides, when it's that cold even if you turn the heater on full blast as soon as you start the car it's not gonna blow hot air anyways. All you're doing is slowing the down the engine from warming up. Once the temp guage starts warming up then you'll start getting hot air as the engine is now warm and the heater will pull from that. I'm not saying she's gonna ruin her car by doing what she's doing, it's just one of those things that makes it easier on the car.
Wow! What an incredible spot for a hot spring! Off the top of my head, have you ever thought of putting a piece of cardboard over the front of your vehicles radiator.(I don’t know if even possible w/element) Years ago I drove a box truck in winter and we all would do this to improve heat inside the cab.(w/zip ties or wire)Basically slows down cold air blowing over the radiator & may heat up “a bit” quicker. Like I said, off the top of my head. I hate to see you So freaking cold.🥶 Loved the video,be safe and have fun Rosa! And just keep being You. Bye! Peace✌️Mr.D😎❄️
Im a UK guy that lived in Pittsburgh Duquesne for a few months. I recognised that black white blanket. I have one here in my bed as I brought it back to the UK. Lucky you've not got a UK duval blanket as you would defo freeze. I bought mine in Walmart, it was probably less than $20

Yes and I think I have seen some who are heated with batteries.
"De-frost my contacts." Yea, I'll be dead.
You need one of those heated jackets that are battery operated . My husband has one , he absolutely loves it! He stays nice and toasty warm ❤
There are also battery operated throws and different clothing - socks, gloves, etc.
Those look so cozy. I just discovered them and got one for my mom recently.
I was thinking a space blanket
As a a non native English speaker... "Toasty warm", hehe. 😆
Is fake. U believe she living in a car in -33 deg and next go deep in cold watwr? This lady is fucking behind the screen.. yelling idiots to all of u .
Be careful putting a fake video like this to fake ur views because u might get wat u ask for.
I love the fact that some people are heading to warmer weather and you are still hanging out in the mountains. You’re a beast and I LOVE you and crunchy snow. ❤
I also love the desert! But winter is for hot springs in the snow ❤️

Hey! From north Idaho over here!! Omg- everyones furnaces we're breaking and pipes were bursting - one of the grocery store's SuperOne (Rathdrum) had the ceiling nearly collapse after the pipes exploded. That wind chill was brutal!!! You're a tough woman ❤
So glad I found your channel. I’m in my 30s, so bored with my current life, craving adventure, and regretting not taking more chances in my younger years. Your videos inspire me to start adventuring more before it’s too late. Can’t wait to see more!!! ☺️
Oh absolutely you should get out there and do it!! Go have all the adventures ❤️
Your still young, you have plenty of years for adventures! Just go for it🥰
Ms. Lady, believe me, your 30's are still young!! So go on your adventure! God bless.
You are still very young
“Younger years” 😂😂😂 in your thirties.
You are nuts girl...lol, I am such a whimp when it comes to cold weather. My philosophy is snow is great to look at, but not so much to live in. Awesome video Rosa.👍
I get it! Honestly, if I didn't love hot springs so much, I also would avoid the cold lol
Snow is great! So pretty and so refreshing. If it's going to be cold it mightaswell snow. It's the below 30° temperatures that got to me. Sept to May cold.... No thanks. Blizzards are fun! The energy, excitement and electricity in the air! As long as everyone is safe and warm of course.

You can always put on more layers. But anything over 80 degrees is heinous and I hate it.
Fellow van lifer here... When I get super cold, I put s blanket over my head...prop up my back scratcher near to my head and make a small tent over my head. It keeps the air warm yet lets in enough oxygen to breathe comfortably.
It's just a tip, hopefully it'll come in handy.
Happy travels wahine 😁🌺
I do not own a back scratcher lol so that would be step one!
@@lifeinmyelement 😁 it doesn't necessarily have to be a back scratcher. It can just be a stick that's 1 or 2ft long. I figured out this trick by accident and wished I found out earlier.

That's exactly what I thought.

As soon as I saw her light it up.😮
As soon as I saw her light it ,😮
I hope she has great tires chains. Driving on ice is dangerous.
Yes. Carbon monoxide!
Nah its all good I wouldn't worry at all about a gas cooker in my car
To keep your contacts from freezing again, you might sleep with the case in your bra. That tends to be a warm area for us ladies.
Rosa and Elrond, taking us on yet another winter hot springs adventure. I like walking on crunchy snow too, but -33 degrees hurts when you breathe it in. I hope you are feeling better. Elrond is such a cold winter beast starting right up in those below zero temps. He's saying 'Is that the best you got?" So good seeing you in your winter adventures and how you like to find peace and solitude in the snow and hot springs. The Polar Bear must be your spirit animal because I can't help but think you were a 🐻❄ Polar Bear in a previous life. 😊 🤍

I don't know that I can live the van life but your introduced me to the Element and how you have a minimal, non-permanent buildout in yours. I've always wanted to get back out camping, if only for the weekends, and used Elements are fairly affordable, so thank you for the inspiration!

I know just the sound you’re talking about
Love that sound and leaves crunching

It's not that bad if you have money and fuel. I have been living in my car for 6 months and on December someone smashed my car's side window, and at that time i didn't had any money, fuel or battery power.
Truck campers are pretty cool! But I am definitely happy to not deal with diesel lol good for you!
@2:27 - engine block heater ( usually about 300 watts ) can keep the battery ( it might freeze and get destroyed if the charge is low) and vehicle warmer indirectly. A typical block heater installation including labor is about $150.
You need to plug thst into an electrical outlet
@@theutopiannomad - cold places like that likely have public parking with electrical outlets ( hospital for example ) - portable gas generator ($300) is a good option - can run for 20 hours with one filling at 300 watts
You are so brave and awesome. Watching this realising how much FEAR has held e back from experiencing literally anything. This is inspiring honestly
You are a total beast for getting out there in their temps! Can't even imagine ever being that cold. But watching and listening to that river must've been so peaceful
Rosa, after seeing this video I know you could handle any weather Canada would throw at you! Please do a Canadian tour! You've inspired me to start travelling in my little hatchback and I'm definitely starting in British Columbia this year :)
"Little hatchback"?? I had a hatchback but would not use one for winter traveling unless I stayed in hotels and ate in restaurants !!!
The snowy mountain and river scenery was amazing and I loved hearing the snow crunching and squeaking under foot. Thanks for sharing.
You could heat up water and fill bottles with hot water and put inside your sleeping bag as a sorta heating source!
This showed up in my suggested videos and I'm so glad I clicked on it! I live in Stanley, so glad you got to see the mountains and enjoy the hot spring during that extremely cold week we had. Stay safe. Always think about your safety first no matter how convenient something looks. flame inside a car is dangerous. Doesn't matter how use to it you are. That's where people tend to make the most mistakes because they get comfortable. I see it alot at work.

🤔 What about needing the bathroom in the middle of the night?
Men pee in a bottle.
Buckets!
a pee cup - what
My immediate thought
Clean snow outside
My cousin had a Joni handwarmer that was as big as a breadbox for deer hunting. We always laughed about
that but he was the only one that was ever warm. He would shoot a buck, field dress it, then put the handwarmer
inside the body cavity. Buy the time he dragged it back to camp the steaks were cooked for dinner. Seagrams
and a deer steak for everybody.
That's probably one of the prettiest rivers ever. Thanks for taking us with you
It was -17f here for several days and I was out camping, too. The first night was rough with just a blanket, but the second day I layered it into my Kelty sleeping bag and was just fine. Stay safe!
A sleeping bag really makes all the difference ❤️
@@lifeinmyelementI agree. But I'm ready for the warmth to come back 😂 that, or I need to break out the diesel heater for my rooftop tent. But if you want to hit some more hot springs, we literally have a town named Hot Springs here in Arkansas. My daughter and I would always be down to camp with ya!
As someone who lives in tropical country in my entire life, -33° is going to be a nightmare for me. It's summer to where I am right now. So, I'm using AC to cool down a bit, but I can't stand below 23°. 😅😅😅
Looks like you get warnings from people. That’s because they/we care. ❤ 😊
Stay safe!
down booties/down jacket and a winter rated sleeping bag are definitely worth investing in!
I've never had an issue starting my car this way! But I'll take your advice into consideration 😊
It probably puts less strain on the car
Good idea! I really wasn't cold at all (I have a super nice sleeping bag) but anything to make my car struggle less would be great ❤️ thank you!
Im a UK guy that lived in Pittsburgh Duquesne for a few months. I recognised that black white blanket. I have one here in my bed as I brought it back to the UK. I call it my American blanket as you can't buy them in the UK, it's a double or triple layer micro fleece that absorbs heat and locks it in. Lucky you've not got a UK duval blanket as you would defo freeze. I bought mine in Walmart, it was probably less than $20
Something you need to think about is a 12-volt electric blanket you just plug it into the cigarette lighter!!! And you can find at most large truck stops!!! And something else a 12-volt coffee maker???? Zippo Refillable Hand Warmer. !!! You know I've heard they even have an electric sleeping bag???
