Almost 50 years ago I had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful kind hearted gentleman. His natural talking voice was exactly what you used to hear when he ended his show and said, "Good night and God bless." I was a front desk clerk at a resort and he treated the clerks, the bellman, and anybody who walked by as though we were the most important people in his life. He was in no hurry to get away from us and when he finally started to leave after about an hour for a walk around the grounds, I said, "Mr. Skelton, have a great day!". He responded, "Son, the day is half over. Have a great life!" How can you not love such a warm and wonderful human being. His humor is just the icing on the cake!
I have seldom been so jealous of someone, if I had ever met Red I would have been so tongue-tied I would've passed out. Of all the people who have passed away, outside of my parents, I would love to spend an hour with Red Skelton. I loved his shows, my parents would let me stay up to watch his program, it was the only one that they would let me watch that "late at night". I loved how he could crack himself up at his own jokes, he let us share his enjoyment of what he did. You were most fortunate!
@@captainnerd6452 Thank you. No matter who passed by him while he was talking to us, he didn't act like he was being interrupted or inconvenienced. When I was a little kid in the late 50's, I couldn't wait for Tuesday night to come around to see Red on CBS. One of the all time greats and what a sweet man.
This is a great piece from a great comedian! Red Skelton! A truly funny/entertaining man. He did his shtick so well/and Johnny did his plug in as to a writer. This is just so! great! It gives us a look at what these guys did in the day!!!!!

The nice disc Jockey, Dale, would always end his show saying. "And above all, be kind to one another." I almost tear up. Thinking then of Red Skelton saying "And may God Bless" at the end of his shows. 😕 You don't hear that anymore.
A really likable guy but I never found him funny. A wonderful guy from another era. If I may...I think Jack Benny is one of the few comedians who transcended the Vaudeville era. And Groucho Marx. And that can be said of any era. And of course personal predilections come into play...for example, I absolutely adore Harvey Korman and find most British comedy tiresome.
Red is the reason for the phrase "on nation under God " was added to the pledge of allegiance. He lobbied for the additional words after his son was killed.
I grew up in the 1950's and 60's watching Red Skelton. Here we are some 60 years later and I still laugh till I hurt! When he died...the world lost a TRUE comic genius!

Now 88, listening to Red Skelton preach that wonderful pledge really touched my heart. In 1955, I drove by the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in West L.A. and I slowed down as Red Skelton was coming out of an underground garage, in a Cadillac convertible, waving a hello for all to see. A wonderful memory I think of so often!
This clip brought back so many memories of watching his TV show as a boy. Today I catch replays of his radio program on the Sirius XM Old Time Radio Channel. Absolutely timeless comedy.
I felt overjoyed seeing him, smiling and laughing at his wonderful jokes. What a kind, humble, adorable sweet man. I was raised watching The Red Skelton show and still enjoy him in every way.

A kindly, gentle man who also delivered one of Hollywood's most epic putdowns. When Columbia Studios boss Harry Cohn was given a huge funeral, Red took a look at the crowd and said: "Like Harry always said, give the public what they want and they'll come out for it."

David Lemon, I'm a sculptor too, if it looks wild in the toilet I don't flush it, I just get out the crazy glue and and a can of Lysol, that's a joke son. Enough of my blitherings; In the 1960s and '70s, we were graced by one of my favorite comedians, Red Skelton. My other all time favorites are in this order, W.C. Fields, Benny Hill, Gracie Allen, Robin Williams, and Rodney Dangerfield.
My work takes a bit more time and talent... haha... I love the same crowd ... The Smothers Brothers.. and Philis Diller as well.. Jackie Gleason... Art Carney, Oh man there are others from the 50s I can't even remember their names now.. They never were political.. or vulgar... Will Rodgers did get political.. but you knew he was joking.. and you didn't get your news from him...
David Lemon, I personally know the time and talent you're talking about. I cry when I go to the Hirhhorn Museum and see one of my granddad's pieces & remember the love he gave towards his creations and his family.
Dave, I misspelled the Museum: The Hirshhorn. I think I inherited my grand dad's talent but my parents said: "What in the hell can you do with that, get your ass in gear and quit wasting the tuition money!" Much respect to you Dave.
Virginia Connor: You got that right. All so called comedians should look back at this generation and take some pointers. They have the power to bring people together instead of splitting them apart with politics. I just don’t understand why they don’t want all the market instead of half or less.
Yes, watching.old reruns ans his opening jokes. He jokes about politicians but in a nice way, not to put anynbody down. I liked James Corden's show at first, until he got political.
This was my fathers generation . This country is missing it more than ever now. It was a kind and giving generation and funny OMG! No comic today will ever come close. I miss them all so much.
I met and spoke with him at length. He was the real deal. Read my lengthy post above. He didn't know me but he treated me like I was his long lost best friend. When he said, "Good night and God bless", that was his natural speaking voice.
Brought tears to my eyes I love red Skelton.! Clam kadilehopper my favorite. Good memories of my childhood. Sitting in living room with my parents and siblings. What an icon. Love you Red Skelton. All American comedian.
I also grew up in the 50's watching Red Skelton. My grandmother, who came over from the old country, absolutely adored him. Her other favorite was Danny Kaye, who also had his own show. She couldn't pronounce his name, though. She would say 'Dinneh Keh' which loosely sounded like the translation for a garbage can. It was funny to us as kids. God Bless them both for all the laughter they gave us.
But he also would do vulgar jokes such as thumbing through playboy. It's all relative. Red skeleton was just an incredibly talented, humble, one of a kind human being.
Yes, I grew up when TV was clean and family oriented. Doesn't mean they didn't insinuate things but no bad language or putting people down or talking about politics. Love his "where do people in hell tell people to go?" Genuinely funny, like Robin Williams.
You'd have to search far and wide to find a funnier guy than Red Skelton. And one of the things that I really loved about him is that he found his jokes just as funny as we did! I got such a kick out of how he'd laugh right along with the rest of us when he'd get off a good one. I doubt we'll ever see his equal.
There is a Red Skelton museum in his home town of Vincennes, Indiana. It is worth the stop to see it if you ever get thru there. Just a couple of blocks away is the house that Red was born in.
+Dick Short I always loved Red. Even as a child, when I first saw his sketch in black & white about Guzzler's gin, I laughed myself silly. I miss him so.
I've enjoyed many comics too numerous to mention but nobody ever made me fall off the couch, rolling on the floor laughing but Red Skelton. A classy, brilliant man.
My mother, born 1918, (miss you Mom) bumped in to Mr Skelton and his wife in front of the Stardust hotel in Vegas. She introduced herself and asked the two of them if she could give him a hug, they said "yes". Mom got her hug and she was sure to let him know what a positive influence he had on our family due to one line he spoke (seemingly to each person watching) every night when signing off. " Goodnight all and may God bless "
I've always been grateful that my grandmother, with her VHS tapes in the '90s, introduced me to legendary entertainers I might have otherwise missed out on: Red Skelton, Victor Borge, and Ray Stevens. All-time greats!
Johnny worked as a writer on Red's show. One night, Red was knocked out in rehearsal doing a stunt and Johnny hosted the show. That led CBS to give Johnny his own show, which lasted 39 weeks
In 1959 my parents told me to go to bed. I wanted to stay up and watch what they were watching. They told me no, that Red Skelton was coming on. I thought they said "Red Skeleton" and it scared me to death. I laid in bed wondering what all the laughter was about downstairs. How could anyone laugh watching so dreadful a creature as a red skeleton? It was two or three years later before I saw Red's show and learned he was not a red skeleton at all, just a very funny man!! RIP Red, we all miss you.
This takes me back. Carson was my favourite late night TV show host, and Skelton was one of those great comedians from an era when they could create a laugh be being truly funny without using vulgar language or being mean spirited. Wish I could go back in time.
He is exactly what the world is missing these days. A true statesman, a gentleman and an overall good person. I miss those days and people as many people my age do. Greatly missed and never forgotten.

Thank you... for the post because I got to by fate meet jamie farr a number of times when he visits Kansas City. Red Skelton is how jamie farr came to be from the OLD DAYS during the 1950s. The time I had a chat with jamie about RED.. Jamie had a bright BIG smile to me because I am over 6 foot tall. He was my mentor.... Jamie sead.... my teacher !!!
One of my earliest memories is seeing Red Skelton perform at the state fair in 1962. It was a nighttime, outdoor show, and my mental snapshots are of Red up on stage under the spotlight. Red's weekly show on CBS was a favorite of my parents, and as a five year old I could do a fair impression of Clem Kadiddlehopper and Gertrude and Heathcliff.
One of the funniest, most gentle & humble souls ever seen. A clown in the truest sense of the word. We won't see the likes of him for many, many years.
I remember as a teenager in the 60's watching Red Skelton. I think he came on Mondays or Tuesday nights. You knew you were in for a night of laughter. How I miss those days of great television as compared to the garbage that they try to pass off as entertainment today. Thank God for Me tv, AHC, Nat Geo Wild and the ID channel on cable.
Red Skelton -- last of the great clowns. A clever man and he even got guests on his variety show like John Wayne. Respected by many giants in the entertainment industry.

I know your father.. I was a member of the AICA with him years ago... How's he doing..
But I also miss Johnny Carson, especially the Mighty Carson Art Players. Today's late show hosts are nothing compared to them.
Virginia Connor: You got that right. All so called comedians should look back at this generation and take some pointers. They have the power to bring people together instead of splitting them apart with politics. I just don’t understand why they don’t want all the market instead of half or less.
That's for sure. Today's generation has no class at all.
Yes, watching.old reruns ans his opening jokes. He jokes about politicians but in a nice way, not to put anynbody down. I liked James Corden's show at first, until he got political.
Late night comedy, not funny & material today lack comic talent.rip johny
Yep, the best of the best. What a wonderful fellow.
A gracious, giving gentleman.
I love Mr. Skelton!! He was the best American Comic!!!!
If ever a person deserved wings in GOD'S PARADISE, Red Skeleton is that man ! A TRUE PATRIOT AND AMERICAN. GOD BLESS YOU SIR 😊💞♥️💞 R.I.P. 🙏
Seems like RS was an honest, humble and incredibly funny person
We grew up watching him on TV. Incredibly sincere, genuine, modest...and hilarious.
This was my fathers generation . This country is missing it more than ever now. It was a kind and giving generation and funny OMG! No comic today will ever come close. I miss them all so much.
Big Papi beloved
Big Papi me
I met and spoke with him at length. He was the real deal. Read my lengthy post above. He didn't know me but he treated me like I was his long lost best friend. When he said, "Good night and God bless", that was his natural speaking voice.
Brought tears to my eyes
I love red Skelton.! Clam kadilehopper my favorite.
Good memories of my childhood. Sitting in living room with my parents and siblings.
What an icon.
Love you Red Skelton.
All American comedian.
A genuinely funny man; and one of the kindest and most gentle souls ever. He is and will be forever missed.
Red said during a Toronto interview that if a comedian cannot make people laugh without using vulgar language, then he or she is not funny.
amen!!
He was so right
But people still laugh
But he also would do vulgar jokes such as thumbing through playboy. It's all relative. Red skeleton was just an incredibly talented, humble, one of a kind human being.
Yes, I grew up when TV was clean and family oriented. Doesn't mean they didn't insinuate things but no bad language or putting people down or talking about politics. Love his "where do people in hell tell people to go?" Genuinely funny, like Robin Williams.
Red Skeleton and Jonny Carson 2 classic acts
You'd have to search far and wide to find a funnier guy than Red Skelton. And one of the things that I really loved about him is that he found his jokes just as funny as we did! I got such a kick out of how he'd laugh right along with the rest of us when he'd get off a good one. I doubt we'll ever see his equal.
Red Skelton should have the title THE KING OF COMEDY, because he's a classic act just like a 1928 Rlouls Royse
@@debbieburdick9777.... It's "Rolls Royce", sweetie..... and Yes, totally agree.
Also loved how he laughed at his jokes....such a fun and funny guy!
Classy, clever, sweet man...loved the Red Skelton Show...
There is a Red Skelton museum in his home town of Vincennes, Indiana. It is worth the stop to see it if you ever get thru there. Just a couple of blocks away is the house that Red was born in.
+Dick Short What a great talent and person!!!!!
+Dick Short I always loved Red. Even as a child, when I first saw his sketch in black & white about Guzzler's gin, I laughed myself silly. I miss him so.
We ❤️ Red!! Proud to call my home Vincennes!!! If your ever thru the TN area there is a guy named Brian Hoffman that does Red very well!!!
I'll
I've enjoyed many comics too numerous to mention but nobody ever made me fall off the couch, rolling on the floor laughing but Red Skelton. A classy, brilliant man.
Red Skelton was a one of a kind!
He's hilarious and a wonderful person!!!!!
These were entertainer like we'll never see again. RIP
Alchay: thank you for posting. Mr. Skelton was my childhood hero. Love doing his comedy. Thanks again for such a nice clip.
I've always been grateful that my grandmother, with her VHS tapes in the '90s, introduced me to legendary entertainers I might have otherwise missed out on: Red Skelton, Victor Borge, and Ray Stevens. All-time greats!
A Great complement From Red to Johnny
Johnny worked as a writer on Red's show. One night, Red was knocked out in rehearsal doing a stunt and Johnny hosted the show. That led CBS to give Johnny his own show, which lasted 39 weeks
And Johnny even said.. "It's good to be around you again"
THAT's a great compliment!
A truly kind and gentle being. Gracious for every day of his life, even when it was fraught with tragedy.
So much respect for this brilliant man. Carson was no slouch either.
I can't understand why anyone wouldn't enjoy watching Red Skeleton. Good clean fun. Family oriented. Wish more comedians were like him.
Hello Barbara, How are you doing?
I cried when I saw this clip with Red. A wonderful comedian.
"Do I exercise ? yes !!...... I act as a PallBearer for all my friends who exercised and did Aerobics in the past !! Only you RED !!
"How can your wife see a little blonde hair on your coat, and miss the garage door?"
🤣
@@richardkirk5098 a beauty.😎🤗📽️🗽🦅🇩🇰🇺🇸
this is the best comedy no matter what, grew up with him and always will watch,
I think Red Skeleton was one of the best...
He is exactly what the world is missing these days. A true statesman, a gentleman and an overall good person. I miss those days and people as many people my age do. Greatly missed and never forgotten.
So true, I've watched the tonight show for a little humor in the every day hustle and bustle. To bad I can't get that anymore.
Hello Janet, How are you doing?
Red Skelton Show...always watched by my family...with the Lawrence Welk show and I Love Lucy.
WITH ALL THE WORLD AT OUR FINGERTIPS,WHAT ARE OUR CHILDREN AND THEIR CHILDREN GOING TO HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THE ACTORS,CAMEDIAN'S,AND SINGERS OF THEIR TIME ?IT'S SAD THAT THIS LEGACY,ISn'T AS GREAT AS THE ONE'S WE HAD IN THE 50'S AND THRU THE80s,BUT IF AMERICA DOESN'T CLEAN UP ITS ACT, TELEVISION ISN'T GOING TO LEARN THEM A GOOD COMMON SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS,WE HAD .WE HAD GOOD ROLE MODEL'S,BUT WE'RE A LOT MORE HIPECRITACIAL,AND JUDGEMENTAL OF PEOPLE .FREEDOM IS NOT FREE .GOD PAID THE PRICE FOR EVERYONE TO BE FREE.
I love it when he says," Vincennes! That's my home." That's only one hour south of where I live. What a class act!!!
You live between me-about 2 hours north of Vincennes- and Red's hometown.
Watching Red Skelton on Carson's show. I used to watch Red Skelton, he's such a Sweet man & he is talented as Comedian. WE don't have this clean comedy nowadays. Wish we could have all these comedians again. Miss them all.
One of the great classic comics. RIP.
I loved the way he told what a teacher taught him in school about the Pledge of Allegiance. He told it so beautifully it could make you cry. He was a great entertainer.
Dorothy Coker It did make me cry.
Wonderful time back then--People were a lot nicer, and better off because they were.
The Red Skelton show was my all time favorite show in my childhood. I used to watch it with my dad.
When he was on Sullivan, he made the show when I was a kid. An absolute comic genious!
As a Child I always loved his shows. This helps me to remember those cherished years.
This is a fine memory of a great man. His old radio shows were, to put it kindly, either under rehearsed or wildly improvised. Always hilarious,
two of the greatest comedians...and kind gentlemen.
“The Cab Man” & All other Red Skelton movies = Pure excellence.
Discovered on TCM B&W 1940’s movies. Unbelievable.
Great comedians have great timing and Red Skelton was one of the best. The man was damn funny!
What a nice character Red was and funny as heck. They broke the mold of these types of human beeings I somtimes believe.
One of the funniest, most gentle & humble souls ever seen. A clown in the truest sense of the word. We won't see the likes of him for many, many years.
Wednesday 21 Dec 2016. . . . the 26 thumbs-downs are CLASSLESS people because THIS was hilarious back then & STILL hilarious. I LOVED watching Red! 😆
Loved watching Red Skelton when I was younger. Miss the old stars, they could hold your attention on a movie without the need for special effects!
In 2019 Red Skeleton's jokes are still funny, this shows you that he was a comic genius...I used to watch him as a kid.
I grew up with this great comedian, he was a great man and and gave people a reason to be happy.
Great comedian. Our family always watched Red Skelton.
I loved watching Red Skelton , Seems like all of the good ones are gone after 2000. Thanks sir...
Class without comparison.
AMEN!!!
Red you are a wonderful person and comedian! God bless you!
Hello Sharon, How are you doing?
2 of the best Men on TV shows Red S. and Johnny
