Great video, Ben. You took one for the team when you bought this watch. On a separate note, I think DW is making a big mistake. According to Forbes, MVMT was sold to Movado in exchange for $200 million. MVMT was sold when the hype was high. DW should do that soon or the window will close.

A local shop had one with a Tiffany blue dial, I almost pulled the trigger, but I really couldn’t justify a non hacking, no manual winding movement at that price. I bought a Tiffany blue Casio to scratch that itch lmao
The company is going in the same direction as the “D” in their logo. Backwards. Hard to do when you’re swimming at the bottom of the barrel but they did it!
all your videos about DW made me appreciate first and only automatic watch which is SNKL45 more and more... Even my for the quartz version I will still pick my 35 usd Alba watch..
I mean, I saw a Le Locle with literally the same price with leather strap here in Spain. It just amazes me how you can sell this under 100$ Aliexpress piece at the same price of one of the best dress watches on the affordable market without even producing your own movements.
The price would have been forgivable if the styling had been something really unique and if they had at least decorated the rotor a bit. Invicta put out better for much less.
Love your vids Ben 💚 Would love to know your take on the new Casioak series (the solar ones) and please consider making videos on Flieger watches just like the one you did on field watches.
The thumbnail pic says it all 😂 I can’t believe they had the cheek to do this. I literally just picked up a AUD$390 Seiko Presage in the Boxing Day sales 😭
I've just check Daniel Wellington and MVMT on their local online store in my country, and holy heck they're selling them for the same price as Casio Edifice and G-shock watches; but unlike buying an Edifice and a G-shock wherein you get proven high-quality steel or resin material, a myriad of utility and features, solar-powered, a 100m or 200m water-resistance; all you get with a DW and MVMT is a thin watch with a "minimalist" design(translation in the design industry: ultimate profit margin but dumb people will think its trendy), 3 ATM which just means "splash-proof and rain-resistance"(I don't think it's even something they should put on their product at all) and a marketing spiel about cutting the middleman which is dumb because Casio is selling cheaper watches with million times better quality despite having a ton load of middlemen.
For as little as £100 more, you could buy a vintage 1960's Omega Geneve. A watch with both good looks and an arguably iconic movement, the '565'. You could even snap up the Seiko speedtimer, a watch that is far more complex, reliable and would last a lot longer.
You can get plenty of quality vintage watches for that price - heck, you can get second hand 21st century Tissots and even Longines at around the asking price for this DW. I can't see why anyone would buy this tat.
I've gotten a lot of adds recently about a "minimalist" fashion watch that looks similar to mvmt but it's called mnmal 😐 ... Have you heard about this?
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a Daniel Wellington store in Dubai mall, for anyone who doesn't know Dubai mall is the most fancy and lavish shopping mall ever and these scammers actually have a store in there, shocking
....i've seen far worse looking watches. this one is overpriced for what you're getting. at half the price it would be, "expensive" but off the rip off radar. that's the only real problem i see with it. one could argue it's actually a better value than an $8K rolex selling at three times retail. good review, i've subscribed.
I was abhored with brands like DW and MVMT so I decided to make my own with a swiss movement with much fancier look and sturdier build quality for less price. I even tested the prototype watch for 4 years now and it's going strong :)
That's an understatement. Seiko 5's might only come with workhorse movements but they are decent ones and their styling is better. Maybe the DW beats the seiko in the bracelet but for the price difference you can always upgrade the bracelet on the seiko.
The Miyota 8315 costs a bit more, but it is decorated, and offers a 60 hour Power Reserve. Unfortunately, the 8315 is only marginally less expensive than the 9015. While you give some love to the bracelet, the gaps between the links seem quite large. It looks like a $20 bracelet, at best. To ask this kind of money, the DW needed a Miyota 9 Series, and the much thinner case that movement would permit. This new DW automatic seems to combine Meh, with WTF.
I bought a DW here in Spain. Didnt know anything about them. I paid 159 for mine, but it stopped working. I wound it to the right time and it works again. I was going to take it back, but ill use it as a lesson to myself to do a little research before i buy. Now i have a bulova precisionist on the way to my house so itll be there when i get back from shitty europe.
Just get a seiko 5 srpd instead for 250$ or if u want u can also get the seiko 5 GMT for 400$ . Both amazing. In-house 4r36/NH36 movement with hacking . Can't get a better quality in this price
Gotta smile at this one, DW has finally broken into the auto watch market because (you know) the fact that their previous models were quartz was the problem.🤨
When I first saw that thing, I thought "why not just by a much better Seiko 5?". Which you mentioned! Just a rubbish overpriced watch that doesn't look good at all.
I just bought a grail watch of mine, the Hamilton Interstellar Cooper (khaki Aviation Pilot Day Date) watch and that was £600 and blows this DW out of the water
Thing I don't get is why don't they respect themselves , I'd never start a brand like that but even if I did , got that successful I'd at least offer one model that could bring up the reputation of the brand , like one watch that would offer so much value that even brand haters (or all of us who dont like crap) would love, people literally will give ass to get a few bucks...
For almost the same price you could get a Seiko Alpinist or Seiko Solar Speedtimer. Both of which are much better watches. If you want a watch with the same look as this DW just spend slightly more and get the Tissot Gentlemen. At least with the Tissot you get the Powermatic 80 movement and not this low end Miyota movement.
Looks like their attempt at a Datejust to me. You could probably buy a reasonable quality fake (if that's your taste) for less. Sad that so many people get taken before someone like Ben puts them straight.
I showed my family this video. They're not into watches and didn't get it - Until I told them that a preowned Omega Geneve starts at 600$, and a preowned Rolex starts at 3000$. What non-watch enthusiast need is perspective. Spending 5000$ on a watch you'll wear for 10 years is equivalent to buying a coffee at work every day.
The movement in this watch is not garbage. I think that for this type of watch, it even is the correct movement. Yes, the rotor only winds in one direction (thus the loud noise in the other direction) and the seconds hand is indirectly driven (thus the stuttering) but it keeps good time (most of them around +10s or less per day). Additionally, they are workhorse movements that work for a long time without the need for a service.
The movement in this horrible looking watch, though old and outdated, is actually a reliable one ! A bit like the old 7S26 from Seiko. But whole heartedly agree that instead of £459 it should be about £159. Rip off with a capital R.
Not sure who the target market is? DWs seem to be aimed at people who are new to watches or who are just after the aesthetic? Why would that market care if the movement was automatic or quartz?
for everyone thinking of getting this, they rather should get the slightly more expensive (~800) Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 or so, which actually is worth it’s asking price and you won‘t be laughed at
This is the first watch review video I’ve ever watched. So I was wondering - watches which tell the date - how do they tell whether the month has 30, 31, 28 or 29 days? Please tell me you don’t have to manually correct them/

To ask this kind of money, the DW needed a Miyota 9 Series, and the much thinner case that movement would permit. This new DW automatic seems to combine Meh, with WTF.
It’s all about the price. If it’s priced at 59, it’s a good choice. If 159 msrp, that’s fair. 459? That’s garbage.
Ben i hope you get most of your money back on that dire watch..rather have a pagani design 😄😄..by the way have a happy new year!!🎉🎉
Just get a seiko 5 srpd instead for 250$ or if u want u can also get the seiko 5 GMT for 400$ . Both amazing.
In-house 4r36/NH36 movement with hacking . Can't get a better quality in this price
Wait, what's wrong with DW? They designed a watch face that I've been dying for watchmakers to make for years
Gotta smile at this one, DW has finally broken into the auto watch market because (you know) the fact that their previous models were quartz was the problem.🤨
I love Daniel Wellington.
Consider it as visible filter test
When I first saw that thing, I thought "why not just by a much better Seiko 5?". Which you mentioned! Just a rubbish overpriced watch that doesn't look good at all.
I'm currently wearing an Orient Kamasu I paid $250 for and that came with a sapphire crystal. How is this worth $450?
I just bought a grail watch of mine, the Hamilton Interstellar Cooper (khaki Aviation Pilot Day Date) watch and that was £600 and blows this DW out of the water
Was Ben referring to the watchuseek forum at 1:54 ?
Daniel wellington used to have a brick mortar store in carnaby street london
You could get four Invicta Pro Divers for the money AND have enough change for a takeaway on your way home!
In the last three months I've bought two used Hamiltons for less than the price of this watch.
It actually look nice for under $150 I actually don't mind definitely not anything over $200
Being right between the two PRX models is a terrible place to be for such a bland watch. I’d get two Orients for that price
Plus with a Seiko 5...it's a Seiko. Great customer service and reliability and heritage and looks for, like you say, 1/5th the price. Bonkers.
At that price U can buy Tissot Prx quartz with a lil bit extra left lol
Looks like their attempt at a Datejust to me. You could probably buy a reasonable quality fake (if that's your taste) for less. Sad that so many people get taken before someone like Ben puts them straight.
I showed my family this video. They're not into watches and didn't get it - Until I told them that a preowned Omega Geneve starts at 600$, and a preowned Rolex starts at 3000$. What non-watch enthusiast need is perspective. Spending 5000$ on a watch you'll wear for 10 years is equivalent to buying a coffee at work every day.
my first omega was quite a beautiful watch and only cost 35 dollars used in 1974 . would i pay a grand for the same watch today ? no
The movement in this watch is not garbage.
Watches like this (same movement, sapphire) can be had for ~$60 (even less with coupons) on Aliexpress.
they probably cost less than 10 dollars to produce .
Not sure who the target market is? DWs seem to be aimed at people who are new to watches or who are just after the aesthetic? Why would that market care if the movement was automatic or quartz?
The dial/indices look a bit explorer-y. Nothing else does though!
The purpose of this watch is as simple as it's design. And that purpose is to separate a fool from his money.
Boy I sure do like my Zelos Swordfish that was $299
I'd rather the cheaper Seiko thanks 🤔
for everyone thinking of getting this, they rather should get the slightly more expensive (~800) Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 or so, which actually is worth it’s asking price and you won‘t be laughed at
I want a 55mm Invicta-Hublot colab F1 dive watch
This is the first watch review video I’ve ever watched. So I was wondering - watches which tell the date - how do they tell whether the month has 30, 31, 28 or 29 days? Please tell me you don’t have to manually correct them/
You have to correct the date six times a year. It assumes all months have 31 days.
Citizen Tsuyota...
A very good alternative
Might as well get a Seiko Presage Cocktail Time watch for about the same price!
