It definitely is an excellent cost/benefit piece and maybe one of the best entrance doors to horology. Thanks Teddy for the amazing job!

    The watch-makers are finally coming to their senses and returning case sizes to sizes that don't dwarf the wrist and look like a caricature of a watch. That said, I especially like the beige, orange and blue dial versions of this watch......great looking. I recently took delivery of a Baltic MR01 in salmon (did an unboxing video) and at 36mm, that is on the large side of what I would wear on my 7" wrist. Yet, kudos to Baltic for making that watch in 36mm and kudos to some other manufacturers to are scaling down sizes.

      I received one (orange dial) for my birthday in June and love it! It did have an issue that required I send it to seiko for servicing. The movement would stop when the watch was turned on its side. So I shipped the watch to Seiko USA service center and received it back within a week in fully functional condition. That aside the watch is very attractive and I will continue to buy other seikos as a collector.

    I own the biege one and I love it. One of the things that I like about this watch is it's legibitly, and this greatly attributed to the fact that it uses mineral crystal instead of saphire and that the case is no polised. High polishing makes the watch feels like a mirror, and saphire is highly reflective even with AR. Mineral glass makes you actually see the dial!

I missed the boat on the sub 1000 dollar MSARs but you can still find them second hand under 1000. @@ajeven7752 Speaking for myself with my mid-60s eyes, I'm glad that I went for teal. There is enough contrast between the watch face and the hands that I can see the time with ease.
      This is on-paper a 38mm watch, but if you ignore the bezel, the actual time telling dial is under 30mm. Even so, I can see the time with no problem with the gold-on-green color scheme.
      I absolutely love this watch, so I know that I will get the cream model too.

    • @Tazdingo01
      @Tazdingo01 Год назад +1

      @@ajeven7752 Albert makes a good point. If legibility matters to you, the teal is the better choice. The white hands with the cream dial makes it a little difficult to tell the time in some angles, especially out in the sun. But just based on the dial color, the cream dial is 10/10.

    These look great and I'm sure they're very well made but being an owner of the 42mm variant, I don't see the necessity of the smaller dial which, when lug to lug is considered, isn't very different. If anyone is considering them and cannot choose I'd highly reccomend trying on both, especially as the 42mm wears a lot smaller and can be had at quite a discounted price in some variations.

    • @elijahdelacruz3204
      @elijahdelacruz3204 Год назад +4

      I agree. I also have the standard 42 mm version and it does wear smaller than the case dimensions would suggest, this is coming from a guy with small 6 inch wrists. The lugs also curve and taper quite a bit, making the whole watch actually compact. Though I prefer watches that are between 36 - 40mm, the standard 42mm version of this Seiko, again, is surprisingly compact given its dimensions.

    • @Chris-de2qc
      @Chris-de2qc Год назад +2

      Amazingly the 42mm is fine on my 6.5 inch wrist. In fact it wears better than my 40mm Tissot Visodate. Slightly oversized perhaps but not noticeably so. 38/39mm is probably the sweet spot for me but the secret with the 42mm 5KX is the short curved lugs, which Swiss brands like Tissot tend not to favour.

    • @ChrisSheridan295
      @ChrisSheridan295 Год назад +3

      @paulc9588 I found this with the PRX. 40mm looked too big on me. Really highlights the importance of the lug to lug which annoyingly isn't always included.

  • @Krauser1226
    @Krauser1226 11 месяцев назад +4

    Love my SRPK31, especially having a 6" wrist. Great little piece and mines running around +5 seconds a day which I absolutely can't complain about. I don't think these are really worth the $325 MSRP that Seiko has asked, but like most Seikos, you can grab them much cheaper, and I got mine new for $180. At that price, they're much more compelling.
    Also, I'd have liked a screwdown crown myself, but there's a misconception that the screwdown crown itself is what gives a watch its water resistance, and it's not. The gaskets and seals elsewhere are. A screwdown crown can help prevent movement of the crown if it's accidentally moved or pulled out underwater which, in fairness, is still a benefit, but it's not what allows a watch to hit or guarantee additional depth and water resistance ratings. And let's be honest, most of us aren't divers and if we were, we're not bringing a Seiko 5 with us. Seiko has a bunch of alternatives that are actually ISO rated already.

    I think some of you are being too harsh on this watch. yes, a bit overpriced at retail, but who pays retail for these watches? IMO, you should be able to get a 25 or 30% discount if you are patient.
    They are not true divers but rather, an all around sport watch that you could wear in to an office job, or on weekends, or just whatever. As for who this watch is for, it could be a first real watch for a middle or high school boy, or girl, or a young professional, or even a middle aged guy who isn't especially into watches.
    As for the size, 38 mm is a good overall size. not too big and not too small. So while it is a no brainer for guys with smaller wrists, even someone with a more average sized wrist can pull it off.

    I have 8 Seiko 5 models and have not had a single issue. I got this watch for times that my 40-plus millimeter watches are just too much for the situation, and the reduced size is very noticeable on my 6 1/2 inch wrist... in a good way.
    It seems like a cliche to say this, but this watch looks much better in person than in any of the photos on line from various reviews and advertisements.

    Snoopy Seiko 5 Sports is just so good, I would be reluctant to wear it. They nailed it.
    Tbh I am waiting for a price drop, although they're already quite affordable for what youre getting, even regular ones.

    I wore a Seiko Sea Urchin and Seiko Sarb for a while. I tried every which way to enjoy a 41.5mm case with 22mm lugs.The Seiko Sarb was too thick of a case to be comfortable. Seiko has finally arrived with 38mm.

    Ive binged several of your videos, Teddy, and really appreciate thepractical advice that youre providing, especially around avoiding impulse buying and watches to avoid, e.g., homag, direct rips, etc. I just got into (the last 72 hours) into looking at a new watch to purchase and, wihtout knowing that it had been discontinued, focused on the SKX013. For those reading this comment (and Teddy, too), is this new Seiko 5 a sound watch purchase for an everyday wear watch? I think Im interested in something can be worn while hiking and fishing, worn with jeans but also slacks and a jacket.

  • @alvinphua6367

    Got the beige coloured, the dial is sunburst champagne when you see it in person, the applied lume and indices are way better finishing that Seiko 5 SRPE series, which I used to have one. Got to see and try these watches in person if you have a chance. And yes the gold trimmed hands and silver indices on the teal version just ruins it for me, no matter how great the teal looks.

    The only problem I have with that Seiko movement is that the accuracy sucks. It's has nothing to do with price. Oreints are cheaper and way more accurate just for a comparison.

  • @rickrounds2173

    They must be genuine Seiko's though because the bezel still does not line up with the indices.

    I hate that SEIKO refuses to add a screw down crown on these model, it would add so little to the cost of production if any, but I understand why, they don’t want to cut into their ProspeX line. Who needs a display back only to see a 7S26 caliber movement a nice case back similar to the SKX would have been perfect. …. I just watched to the end I see you addressed this. Lol sorry Teddy ❤😊
