Seiko is where all the fun is at. Somehow they manage to deliver at every level without ever tipping into pretentiousness or hype. Even at the top end there's an honesty and humility to what they do and I find it very comforting in an industry that's so full of snobbery, smoke, and mirrors.
Any good quality watch that isn't the size of a large dinner plate is a welcome addition. Many, if not most newer watches, until very recently were ridiculously big.
Yeah i came here to see whether the 013 was still more valuable considering its an actual Diver. The prices on those have just gone up and up. These new ones dont have the same appeal.
This watch is perfect for the everyday man. It's not big and uncomfortable like a true diver. Crown is at a comfortable postion. No screwdown crown to strip. It's water resistant enough to wash your hands, shower, and wear in all weather. The winding and hacking is handy. The day and date is useful, and the rotating bezel can be used as a compass, stopwatch, countdown timer, reminder, a second timezone, and to protect the crystal.
The orange one has orange markers on the bezel. I think that is the coolest part out of all the rest. Also, it has a sunburnt dial. Like it goes pefectly together.
I have the field-style seiko 5 sports bought a year ago. In the purchasing process, I considered a Hamilton khaki field but in the end I chose the seiko. Specs wise, yes the Hamilton is superior (sapphire crystal, 80 hour power reserve) but it’s also twice the price. And living in Southeast Asia where the currency is quite volatile and lower average income, price is the biggest factor for me. Seiko managed to offer good quality watches using in-house movements. It also has a huge mod community so I can change the crystal to sapphire at a later time.
Around the same time I did the same, spent a few months considering every little aspect, ended up with srpg, the sand colored one, the hardlex got a mark pretty fast on it, so my ocd had me get a sapphire swapped onto it
Orange color is the typical color for diving because underwater this is the color when you can see the most the screen. I bought the green/blue one, and this watch is so cool for quite no money! This is my new daily watch.
What a great video. Goid to see someone brave enough to admit change of heart. What's not to love about these? There is a lot of fun within 300 ballpark category. Cheers.
The lume is probably not superluminova. Gots to be seiko's lumibrite. Superb lume. And the blue Saturday & red Sunday has been used for ages. Thought it was even standard on the 7s26. And I said it on the pervious video after you said they'd jumped on the smaller watch bandwagon - they've always done many smaller versions of their watches! They own the wagon. I'm starting to think you know all these things but getting them wrong (on purpose) attracts a lot of comments!
Awesome review! Was undecided on this but I think you've convinced me to get the orange model! These are as low as £220 so at that price it's an even better deal now.
I picked up the teal a few weeks ago and it's become pretty much my daily wear, as long as I have some blue or green to match in my outfit. Love the bright color and very comfortable on my medium size wrist. My only issue with this is the 100 m. water resistance. I just don't feel comfortable swimming with less than 200 m. For this price range, I wouldn't be adverse to swimming with this, if it had better WR. So, I'll have to pack a dive watch when on vacation. But overall, I am very pleased with my purchase.
The 4R movement is also SO much better than the 6R family. I've had 3 fail but never a 4R. That longer power reserve has killed it. For that reason, many of the orospex divers are a no go for me. King turtle gives you everything you need.
same here had it for about a month now its my first watch except my Casio f-91w my dad passed won but I never really liked it. However, I got the srpd55ki seiko 5 in black and. it hasn't left my wrist.
My wife has the black ladies version. She had it for her birthday and she price matched. So it was first real life look. It's a wow how on earth do they do it? Amazing.
i like seiko but not all models are beautiful and above all the braclet is always low quality, and the crown is usually at 4 o'clock and that is very annoying, is that also with prospex braclet?
Great review as always Harrison! I've been looking for a daily beater and was pretty set on the PRX, but now I'm not sure whether I don't actually prefer the teal Seiko..
My second real watch was a Seiko 5, similar to the Rolex OP. So beautiful, comfortable, great wach and cheaaaapppper than the my first choice. I simply love it!! Wear it almost every single day since I got it. ❤
I haven’t measured it, but I’m pretty sure Jomashop sent me a 38mm with tags from the bigger size. It’s a lot smaller than my other divers. Any QC issues and quirks this watch might have aside, it’s very nice looking for the price and I haven’t lost a second in days! Considering my Sarb017 loses around 15 every 24 hours, that’s amazing for the price
It’s VERY apparent you’re not a “Seiko guy”. And, “what other company can you get an in-house movement for under 300pounds?”…. Ummm, Orient (~150 pounds) and Vostok are two.
Paid $180 for my Kamasu II brand-new last year; fully in-house and superior than any 5KX, which generally runs around $220. Even if these Seikos were around a proper $160 Orient could still compete with the traditional Mako II and Ray II. I've heard these new SmallKX are going for over $300, which is almost Seiko Turtle' money. I'm not saying that the Seiko 5KX are bad watches, just overpriced.
Hahaha that's literally what I did. I saw the orange in the window and that's why I stopped to have a look at the watches. Then I saw the black and thought to myself "yeah actually that's nicer". I tried the orange anyway just to be sure but bought the black as expected. PS: I'm a woman with fairly skinny wrists so I was super happy they gave us a "chunky" watch. The 38mm is perfect.
These releases convinced me to get a near mint SKX013 before the price jumps similar to the SKX007. I don't mind the older movement in the SKX013, but I cannot unsee the missing lume pipe and screwdown crown in the new ones. I wear mine on an Uncle Seiko Beads of Rice bracelet and the SKX013 shines. But I don't mind getting the Snoopy version.
Favourite luxury watch? How do you pick?!?!?!?? The omega seamaster 300M in white is gorgeous 😍. Great quality video by the way! The lighting and sound quality is amazing. Good job! 👏🏽
Choosing a trending colour is not unoriginal. No one brand ever owns one colour hence having the right to be the only one as “original”. Simple as that.
@@finesse49 Buy those then. I have a good friend from Japan that lives in the town that makes Seiko watches, up in Iwate area. In Japan you have to pay your workers a decent wage. Terrible concept, yes, I really hate it.
thank you for the video. I ve been researching for those, I really have benefited from it and the comments below. And bought the orange. Wonderful luminacent, (since its my first luminant watch I dont know how long its supposed to last but you can barely see them at down) clear lookin glass from every angle and all lighting scenerio. the allingment of the indicies and the bezel is very very little off but as my research tells me its a very hard thing to produce at these price range.. I guess its brilliant :)
Didn't know there was a 38 version. I just bought the Dresskx and there were some 5 sports on display and they looked too big for my small wrist. So this is good!
I own 2 Seiko 5s and i love them.. For the last few weeks i've been watching tissot prx videos. Its really a nice looking watch. I do like the quartz green dial better. And also to add a variety on my collection since i own 2 seiko 5s automatic and a casio F-91W. But hey if i win your give away i will not complain that Tissot prx is my 1 month salary.. 😅
These are basically modern non diving SKXs.. so I think these are fantastic. I say if they keep coming out with playful colors they will sell a ton of these for the next 5-10 years
Yeah I love Tissot watches and one of my ACTUAL dreams is to own Tissot PRX someday when I am rich. I actually came to see this becouse this Seiko is going to be my first watch EVER. I think it is going to be perfect as one. Thank you for good review :D
i had a prx powermatic for a few weeks but sold it and got a seiko. felt weird having a watch that can’t be serviced. that prx has plastic gears in the movement and watchmakers don’t/can’t service it. felt soulless
I have a vintage Seiko 5 which is 35 mm diameter and no bezel and is much older than you Harrison. I really don’t like the fives with a bezel, but I do like the 40 mm sized ones. BTW, Hardlex crystal is not weaker than Sapphire, it is in fact stronger. The only benefit of Sapphire crystals is that they do not scratch. Hardlex crystal is similar to acrylic and you never see Sapphire used in public aquariums. Sapphire can be smashed to pieces quite easily
Not terrible but def not a SKX!! Great for very young watch beginners on a small budget to get into the hobby or someone wanting an almost dare I say “fashion” watch.
My favourite luxury watch is the Rolex Explorer lineup. Both the explorer 1 and explorer 2 are incredibly appealing to me. Saving up for one. Great video as always. A mini seiko 5 gmt should follow this release.
The Ali brigade are murdering these on price, QC, and specs. Admittedly they bring nothing of originality. I'm a big Seiko fan but the 5 series is off my list now. Prospex watches are much better and you can find deals that save on price considerably. The 5 series used to be great for newbs but I couldn't recommend these when if you don't want to go the Ali clomage route you can still find a Citizen ""lefty" Promaster (iso rated) or the Orient Kamasu under £200.
Seiko is where all the fun is at. Somehow they manage to deliver at every level without ever tipping into pretentiousness or hype. Even at the top end there's an honesty and humility to what they do and I find it very comforting in an industry that's so full of snobbery, smoke, and mirrors.
meh. Overpriced, quality control issues, and lots of complacency. I still like them, have owned a few, but Seiko is not... Great.
Any good quality watch that isn't the size of a large dinner plate is a welcome addition. Many, if not most newer watches, until very recently were ridiculously big.
Seiko isn’t following a trend, it’s returning to form. Seiko has essentially revived the SKX013, but in Seiko 5 “diver style” form.
Yeah i came here to see whether the 013 was still more valuable considering its an actual Diver. The prices on those have just gone up and up. These new ones dont have the same appeal.
No its not skx013 its reinterpretation of 6458 everything is same as that old model even the tiel color is same as 6458

Orange is the best of the group by far. Amazing watch.

Just got the Orange Dial the other day, absolutely in love tbh. All time favorite watch though, the black dial Milgauss with the Green Crystal edges
Orange color is the typical color for diving because underwater this is the color when you can see the most the screen. I bought the green/blue one, and this watch is so cool for quite no money! This is my new daily watch.
I saw the tiffany blue one and I was like 🤩. I appreciate the smaller size too. I wish the cream dial one had a gold or rose gold bezel option.
Seiko did this same teal dial gold hands 40 years ago. 7548. And the orange too.

Got my start collecting with a Seiko 5. For the price, they are a great entry level to the hobby or to Seiko in general. These look cool.
Yeah I agree, I was definitely wrong before!!

For me it all comes down to it being screw down or not when consider if take it into water
Perhaps you could throw on a cheap Casio mrw-200h when swimming. Pretty tough w 100mm. Hold up to ocean, hot showers and hot tubs..
I like the peanut version, my favorite brand is Brietling. Might have to add a seiko
My first watch was a yellow Timex with Snoopy serving a ball with a racquet.
Seiko is awesome, they really grow on you, the bracelets are not phenomenal but the watches have a redeeming quality as a whole.
Seiko has the special treatment by the community. A San Martin with mineral glass would get destroyed by reviewers.
I hope they release a blue dial model.

This is so true my alpinist 6r15 is running like -45 seconds a day
@Rtime do love an alpinist tho. The sarb017 esp.

That silly blue Saturday on my Snoopy diver made me smile like an idiot too. 😂

Seiko skx13 has been around for a long time. They just added colors. They look pretty good.
but no screwed down crown and I think no sapphire. Other wise I would get me one of these
Looking for my first actual watch, and this absolute banger of a video sold me on this watch. cant wait!!!!
Glad you liked it! We actually have them in stock at CH!!
great insight with the north face aside
Beeing female and having a medium size wrist I purchased the teal color and I love it! It looks amazing! And cost me $320 Aust delivered at my home!

Thought to purchase my first automatic watch... Seiko srpd55k1 vs srpk29 vs orient bambino day date... My wrist size is 6", which one should i buy???
Srpk29, or if u go for orient get bambino 38mm, or even better 35mm
i have a stupid question, what is the thickness of that cuban necklace. i need it too. thank in advance
