I loved both of mine but those polished center links scratch just looking at them. It was maddening, to the point I never wore them and eventually sold them. Great Video - I like your choices.
My Daily is a Rolex Explorer 2, ref: 16570 in black. It’s versatile with a complication for two time zones with its dash of red. I think it would make a good one watch collection.
At the other end is the Seagull 1963 - in 38 & 40 mm with all sorts of dial colours. The Panda has the looks to be worn with anything.

    • @sdaafasfad
      @sdaafasfad Месяц назад

The 16570 is a brilliant watch, it's my favourite iteration of the Explorer II, the newer (but recently discontinued) 216570 is wayyyy too big for my 6" wrist. A GMT Master II on a jubilee doesn't look bad on my wrist even though the case sizes may be similar.
But at the moment, I'm flitting between 4 watches I wear on a regular basis and each of them arguably could be the perfect one and done collection:
      - Rolex Explorer 1 39mm
      - Rolex Datejust 36 (White Roman Numeral dial on jubilee)
      - Rolex Datejust 36 (Wimbledon dial on jubilee)
      - Grand Seiko SBGR073
The Explorer is the most pure essence of a time teller, with no complications, nothing fancy or flashy and just straight up to the point.
The DJs are much more flashy and arguably can be dressed up and down more so than the Explorer imo, they also tell the date and are just incredibly versatile.
The Grand Seiko I seem to wear when I get tired of the Rolexes and fancy a change.
Honorable mention to my Omega Constellation. I think next up it's gonna either be a Santos, a Planet Ocean or a GMT Master II to join my collection, but a bit of saving to do first I think!

I actually just purchased the Seiko Shogurai. So far, I am liking it a lot as a daily wear watch. Although the black dial would be the most versatile, you still have to remember that this is, technically, a divers watch. I would not normally wear it for a dressy occasion, as I have other choices. But the reason I bought this one was because the one with the red/burgundy dial, and the stainless steel bracelet, looks simply amazing, especially in the sunlight. I think it is their most popular color for this model. If you only had this one watch, you could get by wearing it for dressy occasions, especially with the black dial and stainless steel bracelet. I have small wrists, and although this is a rather large watch, it wears much smaller than its true dimensions.

A fun thought experiment for sure. I doubt too many of us could do it though. One would quickly yield to a second, then a 3 watch collection, and so in.
I've got a lot more than I should "invested" in my collection, so if it were to be liquidated and put into one watch to rule them all... a GMT function would be highly desired. Not too dressy as I would find that boring. Not too sporty either. GMT aside, the YM42 yellow gold or the Lange Zeitwerk (date version for practical purposes, striking time for the fun of it) might hold my attention. The full gold Sky Dweller in rose gold with chocolate dial could be a contender if I just couldn't live without the GMT complication.
Maybe a Panerai GMT if I'm living somewhere the aforementioned watches would attract too much attention.

I do not regard diver's watches as very suitable for a one watch collection as they are not an ideal match for a suit. Therefore, I suggest for Tudor the Black Bay 36 / 39 as alternative to the Tudor's mentioned in this video and the Grand Seiko 62GS models as a good alternative to the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra.

Choice of a one watch collection depends on the style and personality of the owner. Many watch enthusiasts don't subscribe to the concept. I own 5 watches I rotate for example. Chrono, 3 dive watches and Citizen solar atomic plastic watch when deliberately dressing down.
I wouldn't for example wear a Rolex for a dentist appointment when the dentist sees dollar signs wanting to drill in my mouth.
Even though I am not a dress watch kind of guy, as a one watch guy, the Aqua Terra 38mm is my favorite.

I get that all listed watches are “relatively cheap” in the wider world of horology but IMO you missed the single best one watch that does it all-Vacheron Overseas.
    1. The steel watch case is beautifully artful in design and finish (has to be seen in person to appreciate) and very rugged (scratch resistant). And water resistant to 150 meters (more than the Rolex Sub).
    2. The bracelet is gorgeous with polished and brushed surfaces, any link can be removed for perfect sizing, has micro adjustments, and supremely comfortable.
    3. Dial is mesmerizing, especially the blue one, but also black very classy. The sweep of the extra long second hand is elegant.
    4. The caseback reveals Geneva Seal movement (and case is GS as well). This is high horology.
    5. It comes with 2 straps, leather and rubber, that you can change in seconds using nothing other than your fingernail. So one watch from very sporty to dressy in seconds, and everything in between. It literally does it all…the only watch you ever need.

I have owned and sold an embarrassing number of watches, including quite a few from this video. Interestingly, my standouts for a one watch collection are IWCs. I think the Mark XX is perfect. If I own one watch, I want it to be a strap monster and ideally easy to swap straps. Mark XX fits this criteria, looks good on all 3 options, and the OEM rubber in particular is one of the best most comfortable rubber straps I've owned. Good size, 100m WR, sporty watch. This is the one I'd recommend to anyone.
In terms of an "ultimate", I'd still go IWC, but this time the Ingenieur. Agree 100% that it's not overpriced, IYKYK. After this you start hitting massive diminishing returns on a steel sports watch. I have the Overseas which I love, but if the current Ingenieur had been available when I purchased my VC, I might have saved myself some $$$ and gotten the Ingy and called it a day. It's that good.
Finally, a conspicuous absence from this list is the Cartier Santos. Looks good on steel and leather (and rubber for some models), easy change system for straps, and you can even size it with your fingernails.

After many years my collection has ebbed and flowed but for me the Explorer 1 124270 would be my second GADA, the prime would be my old Omega Globemaster pie pan dial ref 130.33.39.21.03.001 although I'm not sure it's still available anymore, I love this one. A pick from you list I would agree with the Pelagos 39, under the radar and not too flashy but a real cracking watch that can stretch its lugs an any scenario., it's the monochrome before the monochrome but smaller and lighter and possibly more at a glance readable but not METAS certified unlike my Globemaster that if I recall correctly was the first Omega watch to get that certification.

The only watch in this collection that really fits all categories (sporty/dress/tuxedo) is the IWC Mark XX. A simple dial and an interchangeable bracelet strap system, which allows you to move it from sporty to dressy. This was originally copied from the Vacheron Constantin overseas generation three, which may be the only watch that actually qualifies as a one watch. It can be worn, appropriately, with a tuxedo or jump in the ocean with it.

I think the TAG Aquaracer 200 Solargraph is a better choice than your TAG recommendation. It's lighter (titanium), thinner, and is solar so it is more accurate and shouldn't need maintenence. I know some think #3K is a lot for a solar, but I have Citizen Eco-Drives watches that are decades old and still going strong.

I used to be a Omega speedmaster guy, sold it, hated the hype and everything around it, did only wear G-shocks for almost 5 years, i bought them always second hand. I work as a head chef in a local Hotel, and I always wear a G-shock when iam in the kitchen, When I hirer a new Chefs & staff, I will always gift them their first G-shock, i got a 18 slot suitcase box in my office and they can choose what ever they want, Ive got one special one for myself, Ga2100 black and white, that i bought for myself when Ive ranked up to headchef. When I leave work, or have office days, i always wear my lovley.. wait for it... waaaait.. you wanna know ?.. waaaait, my Longines Conquest 39mm blue. My perfect watch for me and myself only.
