literally wearing the Tissot Gentlemen right now with the dark blue dial and leather strap. Even before I clicked, I knew this watch would make the list. It's that versatile. It's probably one of my favorite watches.
I recently got this... LOVE how the silver dial has orange looking indices by day, bright blue lume at night... and on the Omega NATO blue with orange stripe strap, it is one of my favorite casual watches, and always gets the "what watch is that?" question, which is, for all of us as collectors, just the extra special...
The Longines 41mm Conquest is the absolute winner in black for me. You can dress it with anything to anything anytime. It's super slim and anyone can service it.
Just bought the Omega Aqua Terra Black Lacquer (38mm) last week from the Omega boutique. It's stunning and completely outclassed the other watches that I was considering, as this was my first luxury watch purchase. If you have a chance to see it in person and try it on, be prepared to buy it lol. The bracelet is stunning. The dial is superb. Timeless piece and extremely versatile, which is why I purchased it, so I was hyped to see it on your video!
@@maitrehg I had the AT in 38mm and actually sold it to get a 41mm. Aside from the movement & my wrist size, I found the 38mm version harder to read. Maybe my eyes are getting old...
Longines Conquest is my favorite, I have the classic with 300 M water resistance. Goes anywhere with anything, the ETA movement is +1-2 s/day for less than $1K
Great video. I agree the fewer the complications the better. Orient destroyed their beautiful new watch by sticking the date near 4 pm. Who designs the dials? Your Grand Seiko videos showed them getting made. But who comes with appearance, materials, and execution. Not just a star designer but folks who must produce each season? How many focus groups
#13 ~ Citizen BM7080-03E Absolutely belongs on this list. Being an Eco-Drive, it won't be stopped if you pick it up after a couple of days off the wrist. Mine has been going strong for over 20 years without needing the battery replaced.
Agree. Owned the 40 and loved it on a strap, but was just a little too big for my 6.75” wrist. I’d consider a 38mm, especially if they can keep the thickness proportional.
Possibly a 36... but I already have a CW63 36mm, so I got the light blue 34mm ( classic size) Hamilton Jazzmaster, although larger ( doesn't mean better) sizes are also available.
You hit it...I love my Exp I in 39mm...I have more expensive watches but this is the perfect watch...precise, full of history and so much built-in understatement
My 124270 takes up the majority of time on my wrist as well lol I did have a conversation about getting into a white dial 126500 with my AD recently…. We’ll see if they can come through for a big birthday/anniversary haha might be the only Rolex that could steal time from the Explorer.
I bought my son a BB 36 with the oyster flex band and it seems to hit the sweet spot except for the price. $4000 isn’t for everyone, but the Murph or even the Seiko would work nicely for those who can’t afford the Tudor.
OMG, that IWC is just... chef's kiss! Same with the Spring Blossom Grand Seiko that got mentioned as to why it wasn't picked. Either of those are standouts in the video. Having said that, a nice understated black dial dive watch is my goes-in-every-situation watch. Gym? Yes. Sorta dressed up? (I do NOT wear suits and I won't unless it's a funeral) Yes. Shorts and flip flops? Yes. Out on a date? Yes. Someone else in the comments mentioned the CW C63 Sealander and that's a great choice too.
Bring on the German options - Nomos, Sinn - spectacular watches, often overlooked in the US market. I had to buy my Nomos in London, couldn't find it anywhere in the US, and the Tangente is a beautiful watch! Got the steel bracelet for it directly from Nomos and it is now a favorite day to day self wind.
I have a Grand Seiko SBGA 285 although discontinued and now upgraded to a 40mm SBGA 467, I like mine with a 39mm case. It has a 9R65 spring drive, a black dial and yes it has a power reserve indicator but quite subtle and not in your face. Great everyday watch.
If you were to continue up the price tiers, I'd suggest the Vacheron Constantin Overseas 4600V. Comes in at 34.5mm, but wears more like the 36mm Explorer.
The SARB got a shout out! Best budget Seiko ever. I wouldn’t pay more than $500 for it though, and there’s tons of SARX models I’d get instead of it at its current market price.
Some great choices - and I"m going crazy with the Aqua Terra black lacquer! I have black watch face dials (my Rolex Explorer) but the AT just really hits on sooo many levels. If it helps anyone, I've done side by side comparisons of Explorer 40 and AT black lacquer - net (to me) they are not the same black face. The AT is actually dressier, and I'm so close to adding the AT even though I have the Explorer. (ugh, I'm talking myself into the AT black lacquer, aren't I?)
It’s a video about being safe and boring. I know why you would ask about 556, but I disagree, only because it is so contrasty that it calls attention to itself. But this and the 836 are wall clocks for the wrist. Not demure.
Nice video. You mentioned that you were considering a Grand Seiko GTM for the video and I think you were talking about the Grand Seiko SBGN 011. I believe it makes the cut. It is a 40mm, champagne dial and the GTM complication is very subtle and makes it the perfect GADA watch for business travelers. And goes perfectly with the dark brown or navy leather strap from GS.
Anything on a metal bracelet with a white or silver dial goes with anything. In my opinion the ultimate would be a datejust 41 yellow rolesor, fluted bezel, silver dial. Can be dressed up or down, goes with a black, navy, or brown suit -- traditionally hard to match with colors unless your watch dial is the same color as what youre wearing. The Citizen Tsuyosa white dial ($350) also fits within that realm for a much more budget friendly option.
I went back and forth with this forever about 7 years ago and went with the Explorer. I paid a pretty penny for it back then but happy with it to this day. I haven't purchased a watch since except for a Casio G-Shock to use for ocean sports.
Spot on with the picks! This is just what I've been considering...watches that are ideal for a conservative, business casual office environment, but could also easily work for either casual/weekend or when fully suited & booted.
Hey teddy, great video. Just one seiko suggestion which is a perfect all occasion watch i.e., SPB 249J1 (Deep Lake Blue). Its a 38.5mm watch with 200m WR rating, looks great on the bracelet, finding 19mm straps is just negative point, however, once you find it, it looks just awesome.
Omega Constellation is also a great option as I have been wearing it daily and I do feel that in the white or black dial it can be one of the most versatile options out there and omega does provide a lot of case options as well so can find one that fits your wrists perfectly
The AT Black Lacquer is one of the best GADA watches, because of the 8900 w/jump hour, the additional polish ‘pop’, giving it a better dress option, the METAS certs, and 150m WR. It needs to be worn back to back against the Explorer and OP to truly appreciate the differences.
Agree! Did exactly that and realized they are such different watches you can have both and not have a "but I just bought the same watch" reaction. Each are incredible on their own, and so different. I haven't bought the AT black lacquer yet, but it is in my go do category... maybe this weekend.
Great selection as always Teddy! It would be cool, IMO, to show the watches with a variety of bands in the cut away shots; such as leather and NATO, which may help highlight the versatility visually. Great video, excellent camera work as always!
I love mine so much. Bought it in Jan from someone who had just picked up his explorer, probably been 5 days in the last eight months when I haven't worn it. I'm wearing it right now. It's the perfect watch and they really ruined it with the update. Literally - THE PERFECT watch.
It's not ruined, I wear mine fulltime on a perlon strap. Champagne dial. Fantastic watch. Nice and slim yet sporty and sturdy. Goes with any outfit idd and if I would feel the need for a dressier occasion I put it back on the stock jubilee which is also an excellent bracelet in it self due to the comfort and the t-fit clasp.
I have the green dial Gentleman, and I love that watch! It punches way above its weight class in terms of finish and accuracy, and looks great in a suit or with jeans and a tshirt.
I have maybe about 10 watches but the discontinued seiko you mentioned with the black dial is like perfection to me. Its by far my favorite one and it will be till i have the money to buy rolex explorer. And to be honest the explorer is amazing but the fact that i get the same level of carefully picked details in the seiko is amazing....
My favorite 2024 is the Prospex Limited Edition 1965 Recreation European Exclusive in Gradation Island Blue. The dial is stunning and the contrast when on a white strap is to die for. I will get my hands on one from AMZWATCH
The Seiko SRPE61 (its the 51 on a NATO strap instead of bracelet) is a favorite GADA watch for me. And it is an absolute strap monster. I could put it on a strap made from duct tape and bailing wire and it would look great. One of the most versatile watches at any price point IMO.
Nomos Glashütte Club Sport Neomatik 42 Date Blue is the love of my life in this genre. Not too boring, not too clean, beautiful bracelet. Only (huge) negative is its size being 42mm and a 52.3mm lug-to-lug. I will throw my money at Nomos the second they release this exact watch in a 38mm
Hi Teddy! What about the Cartier Santos? Especially my WSSA0037 with the anthracite dial and the DLC bezel. I picked it up as a GADA watch. I could wear it with a black suit as well as with a Polo and Jeans. The white dial version might be a bit more dressier for those who don't like the grey and black. Best wishes, Claus
Hey, I have that reference too. It has been all but glued to my wrist since I got it. Black tie aside, it is an incredibly versatile watch, especially since it comes with both a bracelet and a rubber strap. I have often said that one of the reasons I love it is that the Santos looks good in a suit, a bathing suit, a birthday suit and everything in between. And the anthracite dial looks spectacular.
Gotta agree on Citizen. I have a billion year old Blue Angel watch that I bought while in college, and it has always felt like one and done for Citizen... but in the past few months I've suddenly gone a bit crazy for Citizen, with two Tsuyosa's, one Tsuyosa small seconds (in blue, but the black/grey works for this video), and a Series 8. Crazy how Citizen is coming in strong all of a sudden under the Citizen brand, and I'm loving it. And best of all - you can create mix/match looks with three Tsuyosa's and not break $1k (buy 'em on sale). My personal favorite is what I call the Citizen "Mondrian" because of the interesting mix of colors/strips - and it always lands as a "what is that?" watch - which we all love as a door opener to talk story about watches. 😀
I think it would be interesting to do an updated blue collar video. I'm an aircraft mechanic and I don't get particularly dirty, like auto mechanics do. It's more of a light grime that accumulates, some mild hammering and wrenching, and maybe some light isopropyl, acetone, and kerosene exposure. So no plastic cases, meaning no g-shocks. We do have PPE, but shit happens.
Another watch that is very versatile is the Rolex Datejust 36. The size makes it perfect for different occasions. It can shiny but it’s not to the point where it is in your face. You can even swim with it if you want to.
@@maitrehg I disagree, it's classic and the original size both for men and women. 41mm is for insecure men that have to compensate for something. And proportions on that one are way off, hyped junk and first needs some refinement.
I totally get what you do. I admire and have a small collection of mechanical watches. I also have a collection of different smart watches, hybrids and sports bands. There is a whole conversation here (which you're not having) as to function, quality, use and beauty. It's not a request for reviews or unboxing - they exist elsewhere. But, motive and benefits across a huge range of performances and designs.
Great list. Hanhart has launched a new Preventor HD12 model in Black and Blue. A great everyday option with a ton of character. I think the leather strap option is under 1000 euros.
Hamilton Jazzmaster in it's multitude of varieties. if you're on a budget, the Timex Marlins can be worn with anything. All you need to do is swap a strap/bracelet depending on the occasion.
This video was so good. I have so many Seiko's in my watch journey it made me smile that you mentioned the Alpinist. Right now looking at 1K. For my first big time watch. I'm looking at Murph I was extremely pleased it was on the list. However I almost forgot about Gentleman. So much style and class. I now have something to consider as when I first saw the gentleman it was not a possibility at the time now it is. So now I will have to do some thought searching but that's a part of the fun in watches.
lol you knocked out my two everyday watches immediately in the honorable mentions section. Also you should look up the after market bracelets you can get for the Alpinist. Completely transforms the way it looks and is very similar to an explorer.
People will probably not agree with me on this, but the stainless steel Reverso. Changing the strap lets me wear it, whether I’m dressed-up or dressed-down.
@@wattsjr9 Q3858522; the Reverso Classic with the small seconds (since I love an engraved back). Q713842J was a close-second, but the simplicity of the Classic and a talk with JLC’s rep sold me on the former.
Teddy can't talk about used watches since he is an AD but the best watch in this category is the first generation Omega Aqua Terra. That was with the thinner 2500 co-axial movement instead of the new 8000s which are too thick. For example 2504.50 is an explorer killer for a fraction of the price
All mentioned watches are amazing options, one thing i would do, I would replace mentioned Seiko options with new 38mm King Seiko, I think it fits this video better than 2 mentioned Seikos.
Nice selection. I was sort of surprised by the lack of rectangular case models like the Reverso or the Tank-two styles that seem perfectly suited to a life straddling genres and styles.
Great choice with the Grand Seiko SBGH273. I bought it a couple years ago and it’s been a great everyday watch for any outfit and every scenario. Good move. 👌🏽
The pre-ceramic Rolex Daytona ..6520s work pretty well as a wear with anything watch. Though in chronographs, the Zenith El Primero Rainbow Flyback in the black dial version fits the bill even better - and is astonishingly good value.
I would include Grand Seiko Sport Quartz GMT black dial steel bracelet 39 mm for super reliability of its high accuracy quartz movement, and for having the robustness of an explorer 2 in a better budget with GS being a safer everyday wear for it being more an under the radar brand than a Rolex.Secondly for a more affordable choice the Lorier Falcon Siii which is very beautiful yet simple everyday automatic, for 500 bucks only Ur getting vintage explorer 1 vibes, 100meters wr, a beautifully textured dial, with Omega style domed crystal and aqua terra pointed arrow minute and hour hands.
Teddy, your 41MM mention of the Longines Conquest in comparison with the other sizes is the old style Conquest just FYI :) Another watch that never gets mentioned that is amazing value for money as well GADA is the Milus Snow Star!
I would nominate the Grand Seiko SBGP001 with its 9F85 movement, 44GS case, champagne dial, and heat blued seconds hand for this list. It’s a stunner but I would say very versatile.
I want someone to love me the way Teddy loves the Tissot Gentleman
😂😅😅
The Gentleman is impressive when you try it on your wrist.
Much better than prx.
If you're anything like the Gentleman, you'll be too resistant to their magnetism lol
Teddy is not the only one. It's just a great watch.
literally wearing the Tissot Gentlemen right now with the dark blue dial and leather strap. Even before I clicked, I knew this watch would make the list. It's that versatile. It's probably one of my favorite watches.
Can you tell us how accurate it is?
Omega Railmaster silver dial on a bracelet. Looks amazing. Longines Conquest always a great choice.

I saw it at an Omega AD in Lyon Fr and it really looks and wears amazing.
This IWC I like the most. The silver dial with brown strap is amazing.

40 mm is perfect!. anything lesser would not look nice
Agree. Owned the 40 and loved it on a strap, but was just a little too big for my 6.75” wrist. I’d consider a 38mm, especially if they can keep the thickness proportional.

Teddy, I watched until the end and was surprised you left out the Orient Bambino!
Way too small for real men.
@@maitrehg I disagree, it's classic and the original size both for men and women. 41mm is for insecure men that have to compensate for something. And proportions on that one are way off, hyped junk and first needs some refinement.
@@key4duty 41mm is already a small watch for an alpha male. 36mm is for girls or very effeminate boys.
This video really crystallized and clarified my taste. Versatility and clean dials. I liked literally every watch on this list 😂
I love the Tudor 1926 👍
100%👌
Another one, from my recommendations is Federique Constant Classic Quartz GMT - i've worn that watch with suits, shirts, shorts etc. underrated watch!
I guess a Nomos Club Sport would also be a candidate and if you change the strap, an Ahoi as well
I agree on the green alpinist being a bit too sporty for a GADA, but my blue SBDC159 really does go anywhere and do anything on my wrist.
As always the most thoughtful , well researched & eloquent watch channel around , keep AMZWATCH coming !
I have the IWC Pilot Mark XX. The bracelet is fantastic.
Did you buy it from a boutique? Can you make any recommendations on where to buy one?
Local AD ordered it for me.
Great list. Hanhart has launched a new Preventor HD12 model in Black and Blue. A great everyday option with a ton of character. I think the leather strap option is under 1000 euros.
I like my seiko Ginza alpinist and it’s currently my GADA watch :)
Tudor Ranger- all day, every day.
Great content!
For the price, which is not too expensive yet not a cheap watch either, the Longines 38mm is a winner to me.👍
Try a version for men : 40mm and more.
@@maitrehgI own the 38mm and fits perfect on my 6.5 inch wrist.👍
Citizen NB1050 JDM in various colors works well for this.
I'm very happy with the Seiko Sur319
Explorer 36 is iconic of a daily watch as you can get!!!
Submariner can be worn any day and any situation. Dressed up or dressed down, its a classic.
People will probably not agree with me on this, but the stainless steel Reverso. Changing the strap lets me wear it, whether I’m dressed-up or dressed-down.
What reference?
@@wattsjr9 Q3858522; the Reverso Classic with the small seconds (since I love an engraved back).
Q713842J was a close-second, but the simplicity of the Classic and a talk with JLC’s rep sold me on the former.
Teddy can't talk about used watches since he is an AD but the best watch in this category is the first generation Omega Aqua Terra. That was with the thinner 2500 co-axial movement instead of the new 8000s which are too thick. For example 2504.50 is an explorer killer for a fraction of the price
Yes, finally a mention of GS Shubun (Autumn).... probably the most under-rated one of the Seasons collection
Wow, a Patek lead-in ad. This is the 2nd time that I saw one, nice. Also I didn't skip the ad which was tastefully done.
Good list 2 btw.
All mentioned watches are amazing options, one thing i would do, I would replace mentioned Seiko options with new 38mm King Seiko, I think it fits this video better than 2 mentioned Seikos.
I always enjoy watching your videos. One of the reasons why I am a watch collector now
Nice selection. I was sort of surprised by the lack of rectangular case models like the Reverso or the Tank-two styles that seem perfectly suited to a life straddling genres and styles.
In portrait mode on my phone, your channel is called Teddy Baldass... 😂
I have the Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80, its a lovely watch.
Great choice with the Grand Seiko SBGH273. I bought it a couple years ago and it’s been a great everyday watch for any outfit and every scenario. Good move. 👌🏽
I chose the slga009 for grand seiko to be the one that matches the most, with its clean white dial limited texture and no power reserve
I love this concept and most of these watches, but need some type of rotating bezel. I use it as a quick timer all day at work.
The pre-ceramic Rolex Daytona ..6520s work pretty well as a wear with anything watch. Though in chronographs, the Zenith El Primero Rainbow Flyback in the black dial version fits the bill even better - and is astonishingly good value.
The new Hanhart. Great value and still unique numbers.
I would include Grand Seiko Sport Quartz GMT black dial steel bracelet 39 mm for super reliability of its high accuracy quartz movement, and for having the robustness of an explorer 2 in a better budget with GS being a safer everyday wear for it being more an under the radar brand than a Rolex.Secondly for a more affordable choice the Lorier Falcon Siii which is very beautiful yet simple everyday automatic, for 500 bucks only Ur getting vintage explorer 1 vibes, 100meters wr, a beautifully textured dial, with Omega style domed crystal and aqua terra pointed arrow minute and hour hands.
love my tissot gentleman. got the blue dial and its been really versatile watch
The Explorer wins hands down 💪😤🤩
🥱😴😴😴
Teddy, your 41MM mention of the Longines Conquest in comparison with the other sizes is the old style Conquest just FYI :) Another watch that never gets mentioned that is amazing value for money as well GADA is the Milus Snow Star!
Hey Teddy, can you make a video on service intervals of high beat movement watches such as grand Seiko..
I would nominate the Grand Seiko SBGP001 with its 9F85 movement, 44GS case, champagne dial, and heat blued seconds hand for this list. It’s a stunner but I would say very versatile.
Re: Tudor.
My brain just last week was bouncing back and forth between the Tudor 1926 or the Ranger, though I'm not sure of the WR for the 1926.
