Malenia vs Star Fist [Elden Ring RL1, No weapon upgrades]

After my last Malenia kill, I still felt that I didn't know her moveset completely. I wanted to get her again with a different weapon. Star fist became the choice because they are powerful but also require quite a bit of precision.
To be honest, I'm still bad at dodging the clone attack. I tried various close dodges, but can't tell what I'm doing wrong when I miss. Outspacing it seems to be by far the most consistent for me.
I had to learn a close waterfowl dodge for this. The locking off method never really clicked for me, but I was eventually able to work out a version that I'm somewhat consistent at.

How do you know when to go for a running jump attack? Sometimes she decides to do some fucky shit. Is it because you start the jump at max range she cannot get hyperarmor before you hit her?

I think it's mostly safe when she withdraws if you go in quick enough. But to be honest, there are more than a few instances in the fight where it's definitely not safe, and I even get punished for it a few times. I had equipped enough defensive gear to survive some attacks for that reason.
