  • Interested in the automated eBay data tracking app I mentioned? It's called Flipwise, and you can learn more here: flipwise.app
In the video I mention "browser search keywords" as a way to quickly search Active and Sold listings -- I got the name wrong; it is called "Site Search Shortcuts" -- here's a video (not mine) on how to set them up: • How to Set Up and Use ... -- thanks to ‪@alexnewby8125‬ and @themodmercantile for the help digging up the correct term!
    Here's a link to the spreadsheet I mentioned: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
If you want to skip the part about setting listing goals and get right to the listing process, jump to 12:10 in the video.

As a reseller since the early 2000's my best move was to hire my young sons (then ages 8-13) to help with everything except the actual listing. I had them steam clothing, package, find inventory, etc. By hiring them (I kept excellent records) at minimum wage I was able to add that as a business expense and also all their earned income, I opened custodial Roth IRAs and put all their earnings in them. When my sons turned 21, the IRAs became their own and now each boy has over $80K saved up for retirement. This is all legal. The IRS indicates that it has to be earned income and there is no minimum age. Just keep accurate records.

When I’m out sourcing I normally look up the item on ebay to find out the sold comps and sell through rate. if I make the decision that I’m going to buy it I go ahead and do a sell similar right then and create a draft. That way I’m not having to look for it again a 2nd time when I’m ready to list it.

    Good video.
Since most buyers use the app, use the app for the entire process.
Thats how I have been listing for years.
I give myself an advantage by always using one of my own listings to build on.
No surprises from someone else's listing.
Even changing the category and altering the title, is still faster for me.
Sometimes, I take a batch of pictures and I can list anywhere.
(park, store, waiting in line, hospital, beach, yard, etc.)
Similar to making offers to buyers. Works almost everywhere.

I can relate. When it comes to numbers I have basically been a functional idiot my whole life. Learning from youtube these last 2 years has shown me a path to improve, this guy uses a smartphone but my ptsd issues wont tolerate it (no phones) so I also take the photos on a regular camera, edit then go to my items 1 by 1 to list on a desktop. However I do add descriptions and dislike the idea of skipping it. I did not grasp his ES sold search trick, did you?

I also make my thrifting time contingent on popping out new listings, so I don't walk into a thrift store unless I've met my listing minimums that day, good motivation.

Great video! I also include inventory management in my listing time: adding the item to my spreadsheet with associated details (purchase location, cost, date purchased, etc). Then, after selling, a quick update to that sheet as well. Also inventory assessment time and accounting for supplies and equipment purchased. It’s not much time but it will add time beyond just listing to a platform. This background of listing contributes to the not-fun nature of this step. Thank you for sharing your process - I’m going to try some of your tips!

I've literally based almost everything I've ever sold off eBay for so long just using things I've learned in your videos and I can't express in a simple comment how far I've come by doing so. Every time I feel the pain of too much stock, I come here to reset mentally, burn through the death pile, and come out the other end a winner (except the free shipping, I know that flat rate has proven much better since this video was posted). Sure you make a killing on your YT vids at this point, possibly more than eBay I would think, but whether or not you get paid for doing this, it means the world to a lot of people and I thank you for continuing to make sense of an otherwise hectic market.

Ahhhhh my business brain loves this so much
I love the listing goals (and actually love listing, which is actually my downfall since I should have other people doing it while I do other business manage-y things)
Also I think a 16% sell through rate is incredible. We barely get 6%, and I do spend a lot of time trying to source items that are in demand. I believe there are some barriers I can't control such as being in Canada as a lot of US buyers prefer to buy from within the US and I am sure this hurts us as well as the higher shipping costs we have to endure here. Thankfully we have a fairly high Average Selling Price. These are AWESOME tips for resellers. Great video.

To share for anyone else who might prefer my style.
I sit at my unlisted shelf, grab an item, do a sell similar like you did, fill out the title, the specifics, shipping ect and save a draft with no pictures, i put it in a tote and grab the next item, and repeat. I do this until i have 30-50 saved drafts then sit that tote aside. Usually a day or 2 later (i have 6 kids so i have to work around schedules) i bring that tote out and set up my lighting, i make a new folder on my phone titled the date, then i photograph everything in the tote and save all the pictures in that folder. From there i add pictures from the folder to the already saved drafts and send them live. I do 10 per day and once the tote is fully listed i repeat with another 30-50.

Algebra for the win! 😂 Seriously though. So much of this goes against what people say to us newbies. When I say my sales are tanking, the response is usually take better pictures, go over your listings, do your research and study comps, don’t offer free shipping, turn on accept offers, etc. I spend hours listing and none of that seems to work. I’m starting to wing it a little more. And I don’t have the set up to take better photos so there’s that. And it’s really hard to find the discipline to keep listing when your sales are zero. It feels like screaming into the void. I’ll keep doing this for a few more months and then I’ll have to reevaluate. Thanks for your videos. I enjoy your pragmatic approach!

In fact I've just started having him watch them with me as we both take notes. This was the first one we watched together as I agree listing is paramount to success. Then, you start to figure out what RUclips wants but aren't sure that's what you want to make all the time. Like I said, it's hard. You've grown well over the last 5-6 months it looks like. I just wanted to encourage you to keep it up.

Thanks for watching and for the kind words. You're totally right about RUclips and looks like you have plenty of experience yourself. I mostly just focus on making videos that I would want watch personally and trust that there are other people out there who feel similarly. That has turned out to be mostly right. I do think I could grow more quickly and to greater heights with other types of content (sourcing videos for example) and while I like watching those videos, it's just not really my style and I'd rather not fall into the trap of making videos just because they grow the audience regardless of whether I want to make them or not. Thanks again!

@@justinresells you're doing it right then. Do it because you enjoy it. If you don't enjoy watching your videos no one else will. And yeah, I've been doing youtube for 4 years now. This is my second channel that I never gave the focus it deserved. I blew it up with one video two years ago, but didn't want to commit to doing that consistently (4 weeks for 1 video). It has sat dormant fort 8 months now so I did a total rebrand and style change which RUclips HATES. lol Oh well, I figured as much and at least it's already monetized.

Yeah that is interesting. Feels better to start w/ 26k subscribers versus 0 even if those aren't really the target. Perception plays a big part and will likely help you grow with target audience subscribers more quickly. I sub'd :)

You absolutely killed it with this content. Everything made sense, and I will incorporate a lot of what you laid out. The only thing I won't do is free shipping on large items. Small items I do free shipping because the chances of being severely burned are miniscule. But I've been burned too many times on heavy or bulky ones. I will definitely look at your app once it's out. Keep it up, man! Awesome stuff!

When researching the listings while in the store, I go ahead and decide on a price plus shipping and create my draft off of “sell similar”. So I have an almost finished template ready to go before I even sit down to list. So all that’s left to do is dial in SEO and AI creates most of the item description.

As always, thank you! I looked at my teeny tiny eBay room and thought, "He's right, but where am I gonna put all this inventory?" As a tip to speed up some listings, I've started using the AI feature. It does need some babysitting as it can get repetitive, but overall it saves me time. In the end, I do love the personal touch and try to set myself apart with information and stories on my products. I sell vintage home decor and having those tidbits of information for the seller is what I would want as a buyer.

I have stuff from departed loved ones to sell. I've crafted elegant descriptions but am way too slow. I'm thinking of a quick standard description as in this video, to expedite the process and revise where necessary for items that aren't selling. The exception will be collectables or valuable traitscthat aren't obvious. Any thoughts?

Great video. I myself list 20 items a day. First sort 20 items from the rack. Make 20 short descriptions and size on a paper. Then picture all 20. Then list all without text . Just titels ans pics. Then the text and copy paste your signature text. Works for me and takes like 1 hour. Dividing the tasks will save time. Thanks for the spreadsheet. Needed that to set the goals more clearly.
