Thank you for sharing quality information. I’m new to eBay and really appreciate the time you spend helping others. Would love to see a shipping video.
I’m in Alaska, I do flat rate shipping. I just calculated based on everything being zone 8. 0-8oz, 4.00, 9-12 oz 5.00, 13-15.9oz 6.00. All jeans flat rate padded. Anything overv1# I give the option of ground advantage or priority. I usually only pay .50 or so per item.
Hi Becky, this is the greatest video I've watched about poshmark in a while. I would love to watch 1 video just about Shipping, Shipping settings in the account, supplies, shipping rates, global shipping. Thanks for this video.
Do you think there's another way to avoid getting dinged if you are out of stock? It's only happened to me once that I was about to ship something and I noticed a flaw I hadn't seen before. So I asked the buyer if they wanted to cancel and they did. Luckily I got no message from Ebay. But it seems to me Ebay is trying to be like Amazon and have no mistakes, while they should really lean into the fact that most sellers on the platform are small business owners who are doing their best, and leave them some room to negotiate a good outcome with the buyer. In my case, I told the buyer I would refund them but ship the item to them at my own expense and then they could decide whether it was worth keeping or not (the flaw was minor). It seems the lack of options for sellers is making things harder and harder on Ebay.
eBay vs Poshmark pricing: I assume buyers check other platforms for things they're interested in (I do!). Because of that, I price the same on eBay and Poshmark, because it can a) look sus b) cause someone to send an offer when they might buy outright and c) the ease of consistancy. BUT!! I have a 20% off everything in my store promotion running on eBay alllll the time. This effectively means the item costs 20% less for my eBay buyers without my having to look to buyers like I price differently for different platforms. Just an idea to consider!!
It’s the shipping that stops me…& with a job, I can’t always get to the post office. Shame, because I really want to clear out a lot in my house & need some xtra cash.
I can empathize what I done was got everything together I wanted to get rid of and took pics and priced. I took the free easy way out and used my fb page. I done a pre-sale post letting everyone know it was coming and then listed 70 items of which 69 sold. No t many headaches just a couple of people who canceled pickups otherwise fast and easy. Maybe something you can consider that's alot more simpler for a house or shed cleanout good luck! PS one piece of advice would be to let everyone know ahead of and during a final sale and or pickup date also No Holds!! Otherwise they will ask you to hold off wks or mths and you end up no sale quite often so set a begin and end date and stick to it!
I am so glad you mentioned that about getting suspended for offering a different item and then canceling, because i learned that from you and have used it a few times now! Never again!
One of the best video's I've seen from you. Great info. FYI: there is bit of a difference (legally) between "stock photos" and 'copyrighted images' - most 'brand photos' on the brand's page are COPYRIGHTED (not stock), and often OWNED BY THAT COMPANY. Whereas, "Stock" tends to be more generic, licensed for 'use' and 're-use' by MANY DIFFERENT people/companies under a license. Smaller companies *might* employ some 'stock' - but the mega companies tend to 'own' (and completely control) their 'copyrighted' images (as they pay the photog TO DO THE SHOOT specifically FOR THEM, under contract... rather than just licensing the images). Often a person never knows WHICH IS WHICH, until it's a problem. Bottom line, photos the PERSON TAKES ARE THEIRS - their copyright, their control, their ownership, with FEW EXCEPTIONS: taking photos of photos, taking photos of 'copyrighted' or 'trademarked' materials (such as retail packaging with copyrighted photos or trademarks)). Agreed on the 'Buyer Cancelled' - eBay has supposedly added an AI bot checking messages of canceled items for certain key words (so I've been told). Unless I screwed up, which has happened, I've appealed every INAD - and won every appeal where I was in the right, to date. Photos & descriptions of any and all flaws really solves that problem. Not putting 'used' (or pre-owned) goods as 'NEW' - or broken as 'used' also helps a great deal. Appreciate your experience about auctions... agreed 100% When you 'lower the price' (on eBay) on your 'sell-similar' - do you use any type of 'code' in the price or description (or elsewhere) to signify how many times you've 'discounted' an item? Also, regarding the Puerto Rico ... it's ALSO THE SAME FOR ALL US TERRITORIES (Guam, VI, American Samoa - are ones I've shipped to... mostly Guam).
Oh my gosh! I took a bath on shipping and was negative on so many sales a month ago. I was new and I didn’t know how much it mattered with your location. I’m in Florida, but it seems I have California taste! I watched videos, and flat rate shipping seemed like the way to go. Nope. No more. I have been charging for calculated shipping, and I added a $1.50 handling fee. I’m not going to spend that time figuring out how to ship something for free, because I have a mix of items. It took me a long time to get positive in eBay numbers because I tried to do what I saw others doing, and it didn’t work for my location. I make more sales now than when I started, and I make money on shipping! 🤦🏻♀️
I just started a couple of months ago under the guidance of a big eBay/Walmart and Amazon seller. She advised me to offer free shipping on everything. Because people like free shipping. However, I've had to send multiple items to Cali and Washington State. I live in Florida. Shipping was costing me 9-12 dollars on low cost item. I was only making 4-5 bucks on some things. I've started reevaluating free shipping on a lot of things and splitting the cost. So I'll be charging a flat rate of $1.99 to 4.99 on some items. It's easier for her to do free shipping with the size of her business.
OMG, I have the same problem with selling things that are already sold! Sometimes it's Ebay who relists the item I have ended, but sometimes, it's just me...🙂 My solution when something is damaged, is to message the buyer, explain the damage, SEND it anyway, and refund their purchase price.
Yes do a video on shipping and how to use the flat rate shipping as well. If its beneficial to use flat rate? I sold on ebay years ago and didnt have any problems with it but leary to do it now. Im also a part-timer dont want it to eat up all my time. Thanks your information is always very informative!!
Hi Becky, I do not have List Perfectly yet, but which one do you think will be the better option, have items in draft ready to list, like you said “in the bank” or have them scheduled? Let me know, thank you as always for sharing your knowledge. 😊❤
My returns go to PO Box too. As long as not a super high ASP item, I will initiate the refund as soon as it shows as delivered to my PO Box. I get them once a week. Just less stress that way and, worst case, out $6 to $8, if unable to relist (thankfully, never happened).
@@Trendkilla333 Yes. I know that the package is at PO Box because you get a notification from eBay that your return has been delivered and a “task” to refund buyer.
This is such good info eBay is so hard I’m coming from poshmark and eBay is almost impossible and even got a store but now every time I post I have to pay them a bunch of money
This video confirms that I am not ready for cross listing on ebay 🤪 Thank you! I am going to date myself, but I was a ebay auction junkie when I collected vintage purses decades ago. I haven’t done that in forever and kinda forgot about ebay. After recently seeing a 60 Minutes episode on the stalking lawsuit, I was reminded that they do still thrive and was then horrified at their practices! Just wondering if you’ve seen it. Definitely recommend!
Becky, thank you for this great video. I keep wanting to dip my toe into eBay after being regular on Poshmark. Personally, I would love to hear your views on shipping with eBay. That is the intimidating part for me.
I use to get hurt when something was returned. Now, I just accept it and not deal with negative emotions. However, I still struggle with NWOT sales. When the individual wears it just under 30 days before returning it. I then have to re-list it as pre-owned. Last week I sold a NWOT dress with embroidery flowers on it. It was beautiful. Buyer stated it was damaged with fraying flowers. I accept and paid for the return shipping. They haven't returned yet - just waiting to see if it legimate return or someone wanting to wear something free for 30 days. I did look at her feedback and I see 5 negative feedback. Most times when I feel they are not quality buyers I will automatically put them on the block list after I send the refund.
That is Exactly Why I don’t cross-list to other platforms! I’m afraid I will sell something on say Mercari, while I’m sleeping in the middle of the night (especially since California is 3 hours behind my time) and also the same thing on Ebay, 10 min. later because the buyer wanted 2 of them. I don’t even find this out til the next morning and I haven’t had time to take it off Ebay yet. So now I’m stuck with having to cancel one of the items! Not worth the risk to me.
I sold on Ebay many years ago and have been mostly a buyer. I have some items I need to unload and I remember that the shipping part was hit or miss for me. I don't know which way to list the shipping that will be fair to me and the prospective buyer. I'm thinking the calculated shipping option that the buyer can figure it out themselves would be best. I have a scale and plenty of packing material and boxes left over from all the stuff I have purchased that could fill a small shed lol so I'm good on that. I would like to see you do a tutorial on shipping, it would be a big help and I thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge. Liked and subbed.
I charge a flat rate shipping fee of 6$ because I mostly sell clothing and the charge is usually under 6$ and I just “Eat” the balance if it is over the 6$
You can't just print the label to reflect your handling time. The carrier must scan it by the day you promised for handling. Just FYI as I've learned this the hard way :).
Wow I actually didn’t know that that all my listings that get renewed count towards my free ones Great tip! And thanks for the tip about flaws i usually list the same thing all the time for years But this year I’m starting to change up and do clothes books magazine toys furniture dishes basicly everything I can get my hands on I will make sure I look for flaws The only flaws I had in the past is the customer switch my brand new item for their used item and say that I sold them a used item and not a brand new one
Another good reason to take your own pictures instead of relying on the ones ebay provides. I can show eBay "hey, I took these pictures and then immediately packaged it for shipping" so if something is damaged in shipping, or the customer tries to scam me, I can make a better case. Happened to a friend of my, he fought it and won because he had pictures he took that showed it wasn't damaged when he wrapped and boxed it.
For anyone interested in shipping to Puerto Rico, Alaska, and Hawaii I have never paid more in shipping costs than I do for my California shipments. I live in Ohio and all four cost around the same for me to ship. I only sell on eBay and I use either their shipping or Pirate Ship, depending on the item's weight and distance. Pirate Ship is a great place to estimate shipping as well to determine whether or not you want to add those areas to the rest of your US shipments.
If you are sending things via USPS, the cost is not based on distance, it is based on zone. Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, APO/DPO and many other addresses are in the same zone as California, and cost literally the same price as sending things to California. Shipping via UPS or Fedex to Alaska, Hawaii and US possessions is outrageously expensive and subject to TONS of "gotcha" surcharges, but this is not the case with USPS. (Media Mail goes on a boat to Hawaii and US possessions in the Pacific, which can take a month, that is the only time to worry about mailing things to them.)
I want to start selling on eBay and so far, I've been just listening to a lot of instructional videos and how-to for beginners. I'm also here to learn mistakes that need to be avoided but it seems to me that so far (I'm about halfway through the video) it's quite scary to open an account on eBay. I'm saying this because it seems that no matter what, eBay will find mistakes to penalize you for. I am surprised that this is happening when this is the very way eBay survives and makes its own money, through the sellers mostly and buyers. Does eBay have a handbook with all the rules up front before somebody opens an account? You know like the handbook you get at your workplace, or at school, etc. A handbook with all the rules and regulations made clear in black and white. Without that, too many loopholes can be created or interpreted in a way that always makes one part to be more at fault than the other. I'm having some second thoughts now. I will finish listening and I will see.
Just one little correction. If an item is marked as delivered by the delivery service, the buyer cannot make a claim with eBay that the item was not received. This isn’t a risk to sellers as USPS, UPS and FedEx all have GPS delivery information. The responsibility to get the package is on the buyer once it’s marked delivered. It is correct that buyers can and have destroyed merch to claim an INAD and force a return, so always best to accept returns.
They can. I had that exact thing happen to me as a seller couple months ago. Luckily eBay ruled in my favor after it was manually looked at & I have no idea what they based it on.
Know a seller that videos himself packaging the item. He also videos himself opening the return at the Post Office. It helps his claim against the fraud and the buyer cannot leave bad feedback.
Great video!! I didn’t know that about the returns : I also have a PO Box and don’t visit it often. So far, I haven’t had any issues not refunding very fast. I’ve done it a week or two after it’s been delivered and haven’t had it ding me yet 🤷🏻♀️
This is very surprising to me, I guess you have lucked out somehow? If eBay has to close a return for you, they typically refund in full including shipping. I would double check your seller level stats to make sure they aren’t punishing you… best wishes.
Just one clarification on shipping, please. So am I correct to assume that when you use flat rate and have to ship to Alaska, you will have to pay shipping in addition to the flat rate? Yes a more detailed video about shipping would be fantastic. Just watched a vid about a sellar that was sued for fraud by listing the brand without taking the time to really inspect the item before she listed it. Ebay froze her account and she settled through a lawyer for $250.00 which she said was not bad compared to what she could have been looking at. Quick listing is not worth the time it saves. I've seen where cross-sellars are listing items with their own serial codes. i assume they have inventory softwhere that helps them track sales and clean up listings.
Hi Becky twice I've sold two jackets with stock photos rushing to get it listed and forgot twice to put the flaws of course I issue refunds and it's never done to get over on someone I just forgot twice...
Hi Becky, Rich here. like you, I have my own website, I do a lot of local sales, I don't sell a lot on eBay, but when I do, I use a combination of a stock photo with my own photo. So far I have been good. eBay has not spanked me yet.
I remember in a previous video when you mentioned that you dropped to Above Standard. I'm a newer seller and FINALLY qualified for Top Rated and I'm wondering if there's a noticeable difference in sales. Did you see a drop in sales when you went to Above Standard instead of Top Rated?
I'm wondering the same. November was my first month and I got to Top Rated. I know it's better to have than not, but not the experience to make a comparison
I neither saw an increase when I moved to top tier, nor a decrease when I was moved down to above standard. It might depend on your inventory. I think if you have things people want for a price they’re willing to pay, it doesn’t really matter. Of course you don’t want to drop below above standard because you could lose your store.
One thing ive done when there is a flaw, is give a full refund and tell the customer they can keep the item. So far, i dont pay to ship back and people tend to like that option. Usually its not a big loss and its better for me than the ding on my acct

Amazing video, super helpful! You earned a new subscriber today lol! Thank you thank you :)
Hi Becky, this is the greatest video I've watched about poshmark in a while. I would love to watch 1 video just about Shipping, Shipping settings in the account, supplies, shipping rates, global shipping. Thanks for this video.
Yes more details on skipping. Great video thanks
I’d love to see a shipping video! Love your advise and videos. You’re a great teacher!!!!
Thank you so much for this video! Very very helpful information for me as a new seller on eBay. ❤
Your videos are always good and super helpful. Thank you for taking the time to make them.
eBay vs Poshmark pricing: I assume buyers check other platforms for things they're interested in (I do!).
Thank you for taking the time to make this video 💪💯🏁
I appreciate this content, Thank you
Yes a shipping video would be great
It’s the shipping that stops me…& with a job, I can’t always get to the post office.
Thank you so much girl very grateful to you
Love the wizard wand cursor! 💛
I am so glad you mentioned that about getting suspended for offering a different item and then canceling, because i learned that from you and have used it a few times now! Never again!
thank you for all your help . I believe I can do this.
Thank you for the tips, Becky❤
I think you withhold a MA teaching and no wonder your speech so skillful.
Appreciate your experience about auctions... agreed 100%
When you 'lower the price' (on eBay) on your 'sell-similar' - do you use any type of 'code' in the price or description (or elsewhere) to signify how many times you've 'discounted' an item?
Also, regarding the Puerto Rico ... it's ALSO THE SAME FOR ALL US TERRITORIES (Guam, VI, American Samoa - are ones I've shipped to... mostly Guam).
Great tips, and an ebay shipping video would be awesome!
Very informative video. You are appreciated. Thank you!
Great video very informative thanks
Great Video! Thanks for sharing your mistakes.
Great thanks for your supper advices!!!good luck❤
I have been enjoying your content for years.
Well spoken. thank youn
OMG, I have the same problem with selling things that are already sold! Sometimes it's Ebay who relists the item I have ended, but sometimes, it's just me...🙂 My solution when something is damaged, is to message the buyer, explain the damage, SEND it anyway, and refund their purchase price.
Amazing video and pleasant to listen too! Thanks!
I always learn something new, thank you for putting these videos out here for us :)
This was very very helpful!!!!! This will make a huge difference in my eBay store. Thank you❤
So informative! Thank you so much.
I use eBay shipping, USPS Ground Advantage. It is a discounted rate that you can pass onto your customers, or not 😉
Excellent video, thank you!
My returns go to PO Box too. As long as not a super high ASP item, I will initiate the refund as soon as it shows as delivered to my PO Box. I get them once a week. Just less stress that way and, worst case, out $6 to $8, if unable to relist (thankfully, never happened).
Do you get a notification when you get mail in the po box?
@@Trendkilla333 Yes. I know that the package is at PO Box because you get a notification from eBay that your return has been delivered and a “task” to refund buyer.
This is such good info eBay is so hard I’m coming from poshmark and eBay is almost impossible and even got a store but now every time I post I have to pay them a bunch of money
Love this video. Much appreciated!
Thanks... Consider using a DeEser!!! (lowers the sss from your mic recording)
Have a bank of photos, items you plan to list, with the info in a spreadsheet or written out - easiest way for me lately.
Thanks for the pointers!
Yes, shipping video please!
Geeeeze girl.....This is better than a quarter of College Business Class!
And thanks for the tip about flaws i usually list the same thing all the time for years
But this year I’m starting to change up and do clothes books magazine toys furniture dishes basicly everything I can get my hands on I will make sure I look for flaws
The only flaws I had in the past is the customer switch my brand new item for their used item and say that I sold them a used item and not a brand new one
Please make video about shipping strategie in ebay and third-party shipping partner that ebay has in .
Yes please. A video on shipping. On saying that. I’m in New Zealand 😂
How can you process a return in 2 business days? Don't you have to wait for them to return the item? Is it once they have returned the item?
Excellent Spanish pronunciation of Puerto Rico - kudos!
Yep!! Chicos! They will catch you super super fast!
Ive learned to stay away from auctions on eBay! The shipping is crazy!
Such great information and tips. Did you create that reserve yet? Thank you for sharing this with us.
Great tip on the tactic on items no longer in stock. But guess I wont try it. I have 3 of these cases in 4 months after selling for over 2 years.
Shipping video please !!!!
Selling on eBay sounds like a royal pain in the _ _ _.
