Becky! Yes!! Just a couple mins in but boyy does this resonate. As amazing as the reselling community is.. it is still very much "hustle culture" which if that's what you love, that awesome. But it's just not my jam. As someone with chronic health issues & currently laid up for a couple months w/a broken ankle I'm just surviving right now💖

This was beautiful. Thank you for sharing these memories. I love to always ask myself why am I making money? What do I plan to do with it. For security? I am safe in the shelter of the Most High. Enjoyment? The joy of the Lord is my strength. For my kids? They want me more than anything I could ever buy. For freedom? Well, then I don't want to be a slave to my business. And I could continue. Yes, I need money, we all do, but it's not my source. This video reminded me of this today and I am grateful!

Thank you for saying this! I’m not going to lie, I’ve really been struggling with what RUclipsrs to watch, what to believe, etc. I think it’s important to follow and take in influencers that really are you’re tribe and have the same or close to the same beliefs and models you have, otherwise it does become unnecessary noise. I think as a content consumer I walk away from big sellers on RUclips and social media feeling like there’s a Key to the castle and you all are the only ones that have said Key so it’s hustle hustle to get it figured out. I made a commitment to myself at the beginning of this year just to maintain my business and only do/watch/take in things and people that are conducive to my business. No more BS, no more advice from people who have a new strategy every week to beat sales, beat the algorithm, blah, blah, blah… I hope everyone can take a step back, smell the roses and know it’s okay not to be perfect every day. ❤

Me too! I actually unfollowed some channels and I followed some new accounts. I dont know some people get too big to they point it's unrealistic. I truly enjoy watching people when they are at the start of their journey and I like following along.

    • @mandyott3037
      @mandyott3037 Год назад +3

@@Tania_VolverVintage I get it! Without mentioning names, there is a reseller that is super hyper focused on the analytics of the business but not taking into account prices, trends and ever changing platforms. The advice given in my opinion by this reseller was trash and it’s misguiding to new resellers and can cloud us old dogs to the point where we will upheave our closets to match what they’re doing. It starts to feel like bs. The ones that dog posh and say they’re done but push out videos about how to make sales on posh all the sudden… it’s ridiculous. 🤦🏻‍♀️
I have my top few I watch religiously because they align with me and my business, I have a group I watch for brands, I’ve deleted the crap RUclipsrs and then I have a pool of what I call hobby watches ( if I ever have time to do so.) 💕

The reason why I got into reselling was so that I could take a break when I need to. I spent the majority of my career working in retail management where taking a break was near impossible. To me, no job is worth my mental or physical health or being able to spend time with loved ones. My heart goes out to you Becky. My mom has dementia and I know how deeply it hurts watching someone you love go through that. Sending hugs to you and your family.

Thank you for being so open and honest about this. I’m a full time reseller since September and it’s taken some time to get out of the toxic hustle culture. I schedule a whole week out of the month to do nothing but spending time with my kiddos and taking care of plants and the house and it’s wonderful! It doesn’t affect my sales at all. It’s ok to be away from the business.

I’ve said this on my IG before…almost verbatim. I look at reselling as I look at my corporate positions; if I need a break, I’m gonna take it. If I don’t wanna do reseller stuff for a day because I wanna be lazy & don’t feel motivated, I do it because if I were at work, I’d have to manage my team regardless & get my work done regardless. It’s my job. if I ask for time off to recharge or a mental health day, I’m not asking, it’s a heads up out of courtesy. All of that to say, I will plan time off or not, but I treat my business as a real job. Im my own manager & I have to be able to manage myself well,
We have to keep our health in check on ALL 3 planes while also approaching reselling as the real job that it is. Whether it’s full time or part time.
Wonderful video, Becky. I am sorry you lost your father in law; he sounds like he was such a genuine soul ♥️

Thanks for this beautiful video. So sorry for your loss. Sending virtual hugs from Hoffman Estates, IL. Hustle culture is real in reselling/RUclips community and US really. It's funny how you touched on being careful of what we consume on here and how some people aren't well. I recently found myself not watching as much content from some for this very reason.I found myself as a woman comparing myself to husband/wife resellers when I'm single with no help or family who respect my successful reselling business OR male resellers who have wives, in-laws and courses/membership $ to fall on so their perspective was jaded...I realized that as a mental health professional and reseller I had begun the dangerous comparison game...no more

A house with more space etc. I am single and raising kid in single parent household. I feel much better now limiting the contradictions of media & content. Long story I had been with a job for 13 years and I learned from that job to spend the time with my family. As soon as I found out about my husbands cancer I spent half my summer preparing for what I needed to do , so in the fall when he started treatment I would be able to spend that time with him. Needless to say I didn't prepare enough, but I kept reminding myself my time with him is more important and everything would be okay.. Life is so short and I learned Grace and not to compare my journey to someone elses. Thank you again for your content.

Thank you! This video is very much needed! Like you, I work full-time. I work at a jail, which is high stress. I don't get off until midnight (sometimes later) and last night I came home and had sold something and packaged it so my husband could take it to the post office today. After I got up and tended to morning chores, I noticed a label hanging out of my label printer. I immediately started to panic. I started texting my husband thinking he took the package without the label. I started to think the customer wouldn't get their item, I'd have to do a refund, and I'd get a bad feedback. After several minutes of scrambling in my brain how to fix the situation, I just happened to glance over at my scale and the package was still on the scale. Though it was a great sense of relief, it kind of surprised me how upset I got. I absolutely love reselling but it has consumed my life! My husband is a reseller too and it's all we do. We turn down invitations because of reselling. We have three dogs and I can't tell you how many times they lay around and sigh because we are ignoring them. Thank you for this video!

I was selling as a side hobby for a few years and I had to stop last summer because I moved. The post offices in my new location have shorter hours, so I'm basically working the entire time they are open lol except for my days off. I've basically determined that it's just not possible to be a reseller for a while and I am actually loving not having to do all of the extra work. I think at this point I'd consider doing it again maybe if my job situation changed or if I had something especially good to sell, but... might end up taking a permanent break. And maybe that's what I need. This coincided with me getting a promotion at work last June which means maybe side income isn't as important, but I've also just been diagnosed with PCOS and want more down time. It's okay to have a personal life and take time for yourself. You can't live in stress all the time.

But at tbt same time, I have to give myself some Grace. I can’t do it all.

First of all, so sorry to hear about your Father-in-law, although it was sweet memories of him you spoke about. Also, thank you for the talk. It is hard, as this is my sole income & I'm single and struggling, but busting my behind every day (except Sunday) I have learned how to tweak my time management although I never run out of work! lol...I'm very motivated, but have had to learn to step back a little and take care of my antique booth, visit with my Mother & spend time with other family & I do work on myself. I work out every morning before work & eat a nice dinner every night. I'm still overwhelmed, but it's getting better. I sleep peaceful at night :) . Thank God for getting me through & telling me to take a step back months ago. "Let go & let God" is not just a cute plaque on the wall, you have to live it! Prayers & hugs to you

Family, health and the ability to experience all emotions are more important. Reselling keeps me engaged, thinking and not sitting around, and a little extra money.

My problem is I WANT to be a full time reseller but I just don't have the time and I'm ALWAYS beating myself up over it... I'm barely a part-time reseller at this point... but I'm raising/homeschooling a 4 year old working part-time at night and taking care of our animals and home during the day. It's a lot especially when my husband is now working 5 days a week for 12+ hours a day lately, it feels like I don't have a lot of help. Anyways... I've learned this message myself and I'm getting better at being okay with it.
I think the biggest motivation I get is when I get to thrift and actually find things but lately it's been so bad in my area, I'm lucky to find anything worth selling most days. Also, I find that the reselling market has changed a lot since I started (which is expected) but I'm not able to adapt with what's trending per se.

You are absolutely correct. I do this part time as a hobby because my wife and I love going to yardsales and such. We started last Oct and I feel we got to possessed with it after the first sales. We got caught up in the you have to list everyday mentality, we were buying just to buy. Now we have slowed down and been more selective about sourcing and slowed down the process, and it hasn't hurt sales at all. We only have 300 items listed but sells are consistent now, and we are enjoying the process. It was always a plan to sell after retirement in a couple years just to stay active.

Seeing this is solemnly some only means of income, they do grit and gring 24/7...we see the fruit of that from their lifestyle. I will say working a 9 to 5 makes taking a break easy, because your job picks up when your taking a break. All you've said is point on

Becky I’m so sorry about your father in law. I almost lost my dad at the end of 2021 and he was in and out of hospitals for about 8 months. I had to take care of my mom during that time and I was at my wits end. I’m a mom and a reseller so adding caregiver to that was overwhelming. Plus, I had 2 surgeries after my dad finally came home. It was almost impossible to balance helping them since my dad can’t drive or do a lot of things he could do before while being in pain myself. I wasn’t working hard at my business anymore because there simply wasn’t time or energy for that. I felt like a failure for sure because a lot of my confidence came from what my business brought to our household. I finally found a balance and am starting to get back there again. I feel like I’m able to take care of everyone while also taking care of me. We as women need to take care of ourselves better❤

When I started reselling about 5 years ago, I honestly thought it was easier. I have had to reckon lately that many of the selling platforms are asking resellers to do more, i.e. list more, pay for promoted listings, etc; and items are getting fewer views even with all these efforts. Hard to maintain a work balance if you are a listing machine. Fast track to burnout.

Thank you for discussing this. I understand how it feels watching a family member have memory lapses and lose them slowly, it's a strange kind of pain. Keeping yourself and your loved ones your first priority is very important for times like this. We don't need to deserve our rest, we deserve to need rest.
I just decided last night to take my first real break from making new listings. Even when I had a surgery a few months back, I took only a few days off, but there's been way too many things to handle lately. As you said, the dip in sales is well worth taking better care of myself for 2-4 weeks. So thanks for affirming the choice I've made
